Mainly for synergy purposes. I think that some of the terrains cna work well with the weather for or aganst certain types, like a Superchared always accurate Thunder, or am instant solarbeam with recovery. One combination can hinder dragons to an extent (Hail+Misty terrain).

So I have an idea for a rom hack that can never happen but I have to much free time so I want to explain it. Can I make a thread in Orange Islands or should it go in the firebot lab?

Is there an area on Smogon just to share ideas on what the next Pokemon game should have?
Wouldn't that lead to wishlisting, which the rules are against? The next game will likely expand on the Battle Maison, add a few other things to keep fans sated until the gen 7 games are nearly ready, which the new Pokemon will encourage most to move on to it despite lacking all the nice stuff from the end of the previous gen. That seems to be the general formula, at least.
That's what I mean though, is there an area where wishlisting is okay? Because Pokemon just made a survey, and I believe they are looking for input on the next game in the making.

I just went through and checked and it seems legit as far as I can tell. I don't know why it wouldn't be. And also, I don't see why there isn't a wish listing area. At the very least it is fun, no harm done there.
It is fun. 
I would presume it is because they tend to dissolve into empty waffling. There's very little to discuss when it comes to wishlisting because it's just making castles in the air. There's not really much point in wishlisting either unless you're doing something like CAP.
I don't see why you couldn't make a thread discussing the survey itself though HelenTheHero. Maybe ask a mod, since something like discussing why the survey asks specific questions would be close to wishlisting, but I at least would be interested in knowing about other people's answers.
I'll be doing that, because the survey was interesting in the way they asked what Pokemon merchandise you get, how you hear about new games, etc.
Only on #oi, our IRC channel. In the fluctuent and temporary setting of the chatroom, wishes can be thrown out without unreasonably many complaints. I frequently derail discussions there into that topic myself.
On the forums, though - no go.
I'm trying to not be too inquisitive, but why can we not make a wish list thread? All wish listing would be contained solely to that thread. And if the problem is that it doesn't pertain enough to anything, neither does firebot. It would be the same thing, just a fun discussion. Just saying.

I've seen unironically intelligent conversation happen in Firebot. Not that it matters since it was designed for off-topic and lulzy posting.
And what would you discuss about it, while preventing it from falling into wishlisting territory? The observation that Manaphy is not listed as a Mythical Pokémon is interesting, but you can't really deduce much from it.
