How I started playing pokemon:

It started along time ago when I was in 3rd grade and it was the last day of school and I stood up from my table where I was with some friends, and went to go say bye to another friend of mine, Max, who was sitting by himself. Before I could say goodbye to him, he asked me if I wanted his pokemon red version game. I didn't know what pokemon was at the time, but anyway I still accepted it and ever since I started playing, pokemon has been one of my favorite games.

How I found out about Smogon:

You know I'm not too sure... I think I got tired of serebii.net and just searched for something better :P

I used to be an admin of an obscure netbattle server called Obsidian. I saw smogon's server and this site, but back then I was a noob, and now that I am getting better, I felt it was time I joined this site.

looking for 4th gen pokémon -> got on serebii -> heard about netbattle -> downloaded it on smogon main site -> long time passes -> serebii got overflowed with n00bs, no proper teamraters left -> remembered smogon, signed up.

funny thing is, first i taught i would be bashed hard when posting bad teams, but actually the rates here are nicer than on serebii

Was browsing the serebii forums in the team rating section. Came across a link to Smogon, and it looked nice and helpful ^^.

Was looking at blueshirt32's FAQ for emerald/FRLG pokemon movesets and saw him mention Smogon. Naturally I said to myself "What's a Smogon ?", searched it, and here I am.
YOU GUYS ROCK !!!

How I, an obscure member without any note to date, first got into Pokemon:

The son of my parent's friends to whom I had just been introduced was into the trading card scam, and figured it would be a blast to buy the game as well. I shrugged him off as a consumer whore (being 10 or so at the time it was not so eloquently worded). He showed me the game one day, and it was much more interesting than I would have thought. After a play session in which I inadvertantly caught Dugtrio with a master ball and wasted all his tm's, I was hooked and convinced my parents to buy me a GameBoy Color (at the time I had a GameBoy fatass) and Pokemon Blue. I enjoyed it, completed my dex except for Mew, and of course sucked so horribly. But it was fun.

When it came time for Gold/Silver to be released, I put down a preorder, got it on launch date, and was playing it for hours at a time. I was enthralled, and soundly cuffed the E4 (with a team of Tyranitar/Feraligatr/Ho-Oh/Mewtwo/Arcanine/Tauros), smug in the belief I was awesome. I eventually lost it, which was mildly annoying, but at the time I was playing other games so it wasn't too big a deal.

Time passes, I become disenchanted with Pokemon because it seems too gimmicky, and then get interested again when Diamond/Pearl is announced. The type split in particular intrigued me, because now some pokemon weren't so broken (granted, now some are more overpowered). I put down a preorder, beat the single player in 2 weeks, and loafed around for a bit. I battled some friends, and was getting my ass handed to me on a regular basis so decided to get serious. I learned of ev training, got pokerus, trained an ace team free of analysis and dominated. I then expanded to learn of the goings-on in the competitive world. I joined a pokemon league and did exceptionally well. One of the users (Yordan if you've seen him around) proved a challenge, and he would reference terms in the meta I had never heard. Feeling the need to catch up, I used #spp-wifi as a resource for a trading and team testing service (only now have I learned that it's flooded by morons who consistantly get 6-0'd by a Slowbro or Curselax lead). Eventually someone mentioned Smogon, so I looked it up and lurked in the shadows reading up on various Pokemon and their merits. Most of which I could deduce myself, but it's always better to have confirmation. Savvy?

Out of the blue, I decided to register. And post this. I intend to idle in the irc room as well.

Edit: my mouse slipped and in a horrible calamity I left clicked! Then I ate! Then I finished this post and learned the importance of using words other than 'then' to link sentiments.

How I started playing pokemon:

It was ages ago (obviously) and I didn't even start with my own game. It started with Blue version and it wasn't mine (as I said before). It was my friends and i would go to his house every once and awhile to sit and watch him get random pokemon until he asked if i wanted one. I said yes and got caught a Pidgey as a starter pokemon for me. Back then i never new a crap a pidgey was so I was practically jumping in joy for ages. Then my friend was said that I could train it so I sat there and played it for hours at end until i had to go home. Then Gold/Silver came out and I still didn't get it so I did the same thing that just happened up there. Then Ruby came out and again I sat and watched from the sidelines. Then i got my own Emereld off some guy I scammed (i bought his Emereld for $35) but I lost that cartridge:justin:. So i went to Singapore and got the Fire Red and Leef Green for like $30 each and sold Fire Red for certain reasons. Then Diamond and Pearl came out in Gametraders so I bought it, even though it was supposed to be out about a month later in australian version and i've been hooked ever since.

How I found out about Smogon:

Smogon was recommended by my friends.

I found smogon like this..
Some people who said they were from smogon starting spamming on a different forum I went to. They kept bragging about their skill and I called them out and won. >_>
I was thinking. "Why were these guys bragging about their skill? Wait.. What skill?" I heard that Smogon was a great emtagame site so I came over and checked it out and haven't posted until today. From what I can read those idiots I fought don't even compare to most of you guys.
No offense to you guys if you are reading this.

Most people who are truly Smogoners don't do that kind of stuff. It's the kind who have the wrong impression about the site and think they are the shit because they are registered here (which is sort of weird, since anyone can register here)

My Pokemon Story (from when I started till right now...):

I loved the Pokemon anime when it first came out. I think I was 4 then. When I was 6 or 7 or something, I got my first Pokemon Game...Pokemon Snap!
Then I got Pokemon Stadium 2 but I had to use rentals. I didn't like rentals so by the time Pokemon Sapphire came out I bought it straight away. But too bad I couldn't use it for Stadium 2. Oh well. Later I found out there was Pokemon Colloseum and I bought it and finally, I could use my Sapphire Pokemon. Then Emerald came out and I got that. I didn't get Leaf Green for a while but when I got it, it was from Vietnam or something. So I couldn't transfer Pokemon into the Gamecube games. When the English version of Diamond came out in USA, I was so crazy about it. But I lived in Australia and so had to wait. So i played it on emulator. It was laggy, the emulator, so I forgot about it. When Diamond came out in Australia, I bought it, as well as a DS because I didn't have one yet.

How I started battling online/How I found out about Smogon:

I found out about Smogon from a link in someone's guide in Gamefaqs. That was when Emerald came out. I used Gamefaqs because they had really good guides on beating Pokemon XD and there was a link there for movesets and it pointed to Smogon. Back then, Smogon still had those Pokemon Analysis. I found out about Netbattle the year after that. But my team was pretty crap then. I mostly just copied people. Or use Groudon with Slash and stuff. And hyperbeam.

How I found out about smogon:

Before smogon, I used to go to serebiiforums. I was sick of how serebii lagged so much. I still liked it but the slowness of the site got to me. I posted a rmt on serebiiforums and Kou(whose known as raikou77 on serebii) rated my team. A banned member of smogon also rated my team. After he rated it, Kou helped my team out and left a message for the banned member. I still remember it. These were the exact words iirc.

"btw, nice job getting banned on smogon"

After that, I started to look for smogon and found it. The server was down and I liked the speed of smogon. It was fast and people on wifi actually care about ivs here. On serebiiforums, they just care about shinies and "legends".

I started playing pokemon when I was 9? Then I got pokemon Red, and when I got to Mewtwo, I couldn't catch him. Saddly, my master ball belonged to a krabby I caught, having no clue what its powers were. Anyway, in Yellow, I got much better, and caught a second pikachu, and trained it up to a Lvl 100 Raichu, my favorite pokemon in Yellow. Boy, what an experience training that at age 11 was.

I found 4th Gen the easiest, the elite four was more like the amature 4, and 1 leader. I never had trouble, since all I did was train empoleon and he could rape anything that came near it. I got it to lvl 100, found the marriland forums, and I needed a moveset for my buterfree, so, someone on marriland gave me a link, I checked it out, and here I am!

How did I start playing pokemon?
I was 9 years old IIRC, and one of my friends got a GBC for his birthday with the pokemon red game, so when he had some free time between class & class he took out his GBC and played for a while, I just watched lol, but when he got to the safari zone he let me play and catch some pokemon(mostly exeggcute xD) and I eventually got addicted to it 'til I received my first GB from a friend who was moving to another town, and I rented the games, then I got my GBA and still rented the games until I bought LG, then my DS and I bought Pearl.
Not really an interesting story, lol

How I found out about Smogon?
I first found out about it in Netbattle, I usually battled in the Smogon server, then I read about it in a FR/LG FAQ but i wasn't too interested since I didn't care much about competitive battling at that time. But after I bought pearl and with all the wi-fi stuff I began to EV train my pokemon but I didn't know which moveset I should give them, so I consulted the page, and ever since that day I still do

My Smogon Story

I loved the Anime and watched it like every single night... All the episodes until now when they are getting really bad :( But while watching I saw a comercial for Pokemon Stadium! I borrowed my friends for like 8 months and played it every day.... Then I got a GB and played Pokemon G/S/C on it until all my Pokemon were lvl 100! I had beat the E4 345 times! No joke.

I found about smogon when some dude told me an awesome site to trade Pokemon and get good info.

Well, I am a member of MMc for about...well since November of last year.

And I started getting on IRC Chat there. And today, I found out I wasn't allowed to use my actual username anymore...so I saught to look for the guy and ask for my name back, he was here on Smogon, the IRC Chat. So I decided to make this place a new home. So I looked ya up, and joined.

How I started playing pokemon
I was 7-8 years old when Pokemon appeared in Europe. The whole school loved pokemon and everyone watched the anime (including me). Everybody bought TCG and everyone brought them to school. after a month it was forbidden to bring any cards to school (some ppl stole it etc.). Since then, everyone bought R/B and brought it to school. I played pokemon red for so many hours... When everybody decided to reset their game, so did I (snik). That was when yellow came out and I played it. I also played G/S, but not crystal.

After G/S/C, people stopped playing pokemon, and so did I. I played something else for a few months (yu-gi-oh), but got bored of it. friend of me borrowed me pokemon ruby, and I started to love pokemon again. I bought sapphire and we traded with each other etc. In the meanwhile, he introduced me to a dutch pokemon forum. I posted my team there and it got ripped apart. I didn't understand and I started to learn about stat-upping moves etc.

How I found out about smogon.
On the dutch forum, some guy named mysterious showed up and ruined the fun. Some guys (including me), didn't liked him at all, for obvious reasons. He talked like he knew everything and was better then us and he posted in almost every thread! So I stopped being on that forum and I got netbattle (cause a friend told me to get it). His name on netbattle was usually eeveetrainer, and he owned me every time... So I found the smogon site and saw good movesets to use.

After a while, I even read the teambuilding guide, then I started making a team for the next month, and came up with a very, very succesfull team. I won about 90-95% of the time on netbattle (and I never entered a tournament and still haven't done so lol). I stopped playing netbattle. When the release of d/p came closer, I started netbattling again. I looked up the great smogonsite for some movesets, but the site was gone.

I saw that the great moveset site also had a forum, and so I subscribed the forum.

note: when I was reading about people who are banned of joining a tournament, I saw the name eeveetrainer. I wonder if someone knows if he ever was on this forum or something, cause I didn't noticed any signal of life for the last 2 months.

yeah everybody knows who eeveetrainer is, here. Although you might be talking about a different eeveetrainer, since the last time I checked, he wasnt dutch.

How I started playing pokemon:
It was sometime in 4th grade, blue version had just came out and all of the cool 5th graders got it. Now, I was much cooler when I was younger (the internet sucked the fun right out of me, it's only recently returned) so naturally I hung out with all of the 5th and 6th graders even in 4th grade. I watched a few episodes of the anime, which even then I thought were pretty gay, but the game seemed more fun than my SNES games, I had a speedy gonzales one and a micky mouse one. I really wanted super metroid but my mom was an asshole and wouldn't let me get it cause of the nekkid pixels when you died. Once I got it I picked Bulbasaur because that's what the cool kids said was the easiest. I blew through the game and got red version for Christmas (I bought blue with my savings). Used Red to transfer exclusives and starters to blue for all 150, my final team was UBER, Venusaur/Charizard/Blastoise/FARFETCH'D/Tauros/Jolteon. Yes, I used the duck of suck. Tauros was the last pokemon I caught, it was so damn hard to catch I figured it HAD to be the best. I restarted my red version so many times it wasn't funny. I still have every bit of that game memorized, including how to get through lavender cave without flash, the missingno cheats, and all of the arrow puzzles in the rocket base.

Now, I got yellow version, pwned it, then Gold version. I started with Cyndaquil naturally because Typhlosion was a badass fire badger thing. Blew through that game and had a lot of fun doing it. This time my final team was a little bit better (well, not really), I ended up with Typhlosion/Dragonite/Charizard/Feraligatr/Venusaur/Nidoking. Eventually got crystal and beat it too, traded my team over early on so all of my R/B/Y/G pokemon ended up on crystal and those old versions were filled up with rattatas.

The advanced generation came along and pissed me off, I had been collecting these pokemon since 4th grade and I couldn't transfer them over? BULLSHIT! I bought ruby, beat it quick then decided that this game was fucking stupid and stopped playing. I never even heard about FR/LG before I started playing Diamond.

Then I started playing Diamond cause my friend pestered me into buying it so he could get the exclusives without paying 60 bucks, I had a DS and no really good games so why not? Got it and was hooked again.

How I found Smogon
Now, I went to Neoseekers first looking for new wifi trading, this turned out to be a good choice because people on neoseekers don't care about natures and such which makes it easy to fill out a pokedex. I maxed out my pokedex quickly and settled into the endgame. I looked at the team thread quite a bit and all of the ratings. I was awed at how complex this game had truely become. I found out about smogon and read the old firebot good posts thread and spent a good half a day laughing my ass off at the hijinx going on here. I currently had no real good time wasting RPG on my hands (waiting for Darkfall to finally go beta) so I figured if people who obviously aren't ALL nerdy little wapanese pussies (the impression I got when someone from neoseekers showed me Serebii for "good pokemon infor to improve team!") play pokemon, why not me?

holy shit, that truely turned out to be tl;dr.

How I first started playing pokemon:

I was in the 6th grade, and I used to watch the anime. I kinda liked it, with all the creatures around here and there and such. Then my friend introduces me to Pokemon cards, and I loved those. I collected and collected until I found out there was a game. Bought all and played all. And I LOVE them!
How I started battling online/How I found out about Smogon:

I was randomly googling pokestuff until I found out some random chat forum for these games. Then I saw Youtube battle vids of Marriland. I registered in Marriland Forums, then a lot of people recommended Smogon. So I registered here!!
