Hurricane Sandy

Lol here i am in Australia up in the middle of the night doing homework while somewhere else in the world is pouring witg rain and being hit by a Hurricane!

I am nicknaming my next Tornadus-T Sandy!

I'm in Australia and have never been in a hurricane, but that imgur is pretty terrifying @_@ (looks neat though...). I hope everyone will be okay and pull through, even if it's just coping with the power being out or the scariness, good luck and take care!

Unless your on the coast or near a river this is your hurricane experience -> You know those big ass thunderstorms that come with a ton of wind and hail and usually knock out your power. You know how such storms only last like and hour or two? Imagine that was your entire day.

Currently the wind is picking up.

Try three days, less thunder and more rain / sustained winds. This is a big, slow storm.

I somehow still have power, water, and internet I hope this keeps up!

In other news the radiators in my apartment were acting up this morning no doubt because of the hurricane's doing - or maybe not, but can you blame me for blaming Sandy?

Anyway, that's not the end of the story. I heard the steam coming out (pssssssh) and thought that it might have something to do with a hurricane-induced natural gas leak from the stove!!!

Needless to say I was very freaked out this morning.

as someone who used to live in NY, i have all these states in my prayers, I hope everyone gets out ok.

Well I tried to open my front door and the wind almost blew it off its hinges.

I live in NYC.

So glad I'm nowhere near this thing.

Yeah, adding to what Steamroll posted, here's a picture of the fishing pier in Ocean City, Maryland coming down.

California is laughing at the east coast. It's colder than a mofo here and Cali gets 75 degree weather.

And it's fucking raining too so, y'know, it's like fucking icicles raining from the skies of wintery hell. No biggie.

And there goes the power ._.

I'm freaking out, the fact that I live 5 minutes away from the sound doesn't help the cause :{

I am really glad i live in Texas, where all we really get from hurricanes is rain and wind.

B/c, damn...those pictures look scary.

Weather reporters need to get their heads out of their asses, just saying.

It's snowing in West Virginia, really badly, because of this storm. Looks like it may come into Northeastern VA, Eastern MD, and Central PA if the temp dips any lower according to my mom (currently 46.7 degrees in Herndon, VA).

EDIT: @ post above. My dad lives in Forked River, says he just lost power but the town is nowhere near as fucked as what your link says. LBI and the other barrier islands in NJ are basically gone, which absorbs the brunt of surge for the mainland. Only damage he's said he's gotten was downed tree limbs and some minor flooding (tree took out power).

also here's a pic from a friend in NJ:

I left town late last night because a bunch of neighbors evacuated. It has potential to be a flood plain and there are tall trees. The biggest thing so far has been the wind in North Jersey. I've had power all day where I am, but I tried calling home and the power was down. Glad I didn't stick it out!

I'm watching all these news videos, and I am wondering... why the hell do people live on the coast? Not only does it cost a ton, but at least once in your life time a hurricane is going to come. I can understand living close to he coast, but these people have their fucking houses on the shoreline. What did they think would happen? It just seems like a terrible investment for a home.

Had no school today, no school tomorrow. I live smack dab in the middle of central NJ. The power has flickered off and back on ~10-15 times. I see lightning at least every two minutes. The wind is blowing loud as hell. The power lines are drooping yet we still have power. My neighbor is walking around outside with a flashlight like an idiot. It's pretty had, but hey I still have power!

b/c it's really beautiful?

that's the way i'd like to plan my life...around natural disasters

edit: like why even have cats they're going to die during your lifetime ??

just to make this post less bitchy, i do live in central nyc and though the wind is really picking up the walls aren't shaking or anything. some trees fell down in central park i think and there was this one crazy motherfucker jet skiing out on the hudson, hope he's okay. i actually went to the park around 5 and lay down right next to the river, it was hailing like a bitch but nothing scary happened, just a lot of wind. couldn't imagine doing that now though lol. good thing i have 5 illion cans of tomato sauce! i feel super fucking awkward emailing my teachers for extensions (3 tests friday based on material we were supposed to go over on monday...#oops) now considering they all live in nyc/jersey and are probably receiving my emails from their neighbor's basements though

I'd really hate to be on the Jersey Shore right about now...

You have no idea how stupid that logic is, do you? People have been living near water since the beginning. It supplies water, supplies food, and in modern times it's a very lucrative area to be a store owner in. I've lived on the Jersey Shore almost all my life and no matter how bad the storm, we rebuild, and the tourists still come.

I also hope Snooki dies in this Hurricane. Sandy please direct all of your strength to a small street in Manahawkin, NJ.
