Notable Moves:
- Snipe Shot
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Dark Pulse
- Air Slash
- U-turn
- Focus Energy

My Thoughts:
Intelleon seems like it's a powerful special attacker at first due to its impressive stats backed by Choice Specs or Life Orb. After all, in this new meta, 125 Special Attack and 120 Speed are absolutely incredible. It also has a cool move called Snipe Shot that allows it to bypass abilities like Water Absorb or Storm Drain, meaning this can threaten Gastrodon. The move also has a high critical hit ratio, which pairs quite nicely with Sniper. However, Sniper is unreleased, so its lack of useful Abilities and rather shallow special attacking movepool really hurt. It's also easily revenged killed by Scarfers and priority users due to its fragility. It can at least nail Galarian Corsola for super effective damage, but it's forced to rely on Dark Pulse or Air Slash to get some flinches off on Ferrothorn and Toxapex, or it can simply U-turn out of the battle.

I feel like it might be a smidgen better once Sniper is released. Fishing for crits along with Scope Lens can potentially allow Intelleon to break past these certain defensive threats by sheer force alone. Intelleon also has access to Focus Energy, which it can set up since it can force switches against Pokemon like Coallosal, Gengar, and Polteageist before a Shell Smash boost. It works sort of like a frailer but faster and stronger version of Sniper Kingdra in SM RU.

As far as Dynamaxing goes, Intelleon is going to be better when Sniper is released. Imagine 3 turns of Z-moves and all of them crit. That either sounds like a gimmick or a thing to look out for, but for now, there's way better users of Dynamax like Gyarados, Gengar, or even Kommo-O. But if you are going to use it as your Dynamax, Max Geyser can set rain which makes its Water-STAB much more impressive while Max Airstrike can boost its Speed, which improves its matchup against speedy threats like Dragapult. Max Darkness could be useful for getting Sp. Def drops, which can make Intelleon more threatening.

I also want to talk about its design. I like the transition from a timid-looking Sobble to the cool, confident sharp shooter that is Intelleon. I think it's a pretty neat design, if a tad goofy. Does it fly with those back fins or is it like a cape? Maybe it's just me, but I actually like the more cartoony and stylized look of Gen 8. On an unrelated note, Gex 3 looks good on the Switch.

Movesets:
Intelleon @ Choice Specs / Life Orb
Ability: Torrent
252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Snipe Shot / Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Dark Pulse / Air Slash
- U-turn

For now, this is the best set I can use to make Intelleon viable. It has a great speed tier and frigtening power coming from its Special Attack, and it can fish for crits with Snipe Shot. If only Hidden Power was a thing because this really wants to break Ferrothorn and Toxapex without relying on hax from Dark Pulse or Air Slash. U-turn is to escape bad matchups from against Pokemon like Ferrothorn, Drakovish, or Rotom-W.

Intelleon @ Scope Lens / Life Orb
Ability: Sniper
Timid Nature
252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Snipe Shot / Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Air Slash
- Focus Energy

Once Sniper is released, this might work as a Dynamaxer. Force a switch against something like Gengar, Appletun, or Coallosal, and set up Focus Energy first. Then get big and land three critical hit Z-moves in a row. It's essentially Kingdra 2.0, minus a Dragon-typing. It should be noted that Max Geyser 2HKOs Toxapex with crits and Max Airstream gives Intelleon a Speed boost to improve its matchup against Choice Scarf users and Dragapult.

Other Options:
Intelleon could try Swords Dance to use a physically offensive set, but its physical movepool is extremely shallow. Weather Ball could be cool on Sun teams to nail Ferrothorn. Maybe a mixed set using Work Up could work, but Intelleon is too frail to find opportunities to set up.

That's essentially all I have on the third Galar starter. Do you think it's an underrated threat or underwhelming Pokemon in Gen 8 OU? What are your thoughts?

While I feel like my in-game run had a weird amount of crits from this move, I can't find any evidence that Snipe Shot has a higher crit chance, and it doesn't have it in the in-game description.
The datamine shows that it has a higher critical hit ratio, similar to moves like Leaf Blade. But yeah, it's odd that they'd leave that out of the move description.

Hydro Pump is better than Snipe Shot on Scope Lens + Focus Energy sets though, since Scope Lens + Focus Energy grants a 100% critical rate.

Personally, I think its best set when Sniper is released will be the Focus Energy set.

Inteleon @ Scope Lens
Ability: Sniper
252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Air Slash
- Focus Energy

Air Slash is largely filler, but it turns into Max Airstream when dynamaxed which gives +1 speed. It doesn't really need any other options since it can 2HKO Toxapex with Max Geyser (with crits).

Am I the only one who thinks that surf is better than hydro pump? Because 90 base power is already good and we all know that an 20% odd of the move miss turns into 33% or more ( my perception ) in game .
But thats just my opinion , I'm the kind of player who used surf in greninja.
In inteleon's case I think that hydro pump would be unnecessary since the damage will alredy be multiplied by 2.25 .

I'm at work so I can't test this right now, but does Snipe Shot really bypass water absorb? I was under the impression that snipe shot only prevented the redirection of the target. For example, in a double battle against a fire type and a Gastrodon, if you used any water move on the fire type, Gastrodon's storm drain would redirect the move towards itself and then drain it. I'd assume snipe shot would also always hit desired target regardless of abilities like that or if moves like "follow me" are being used.

Yea I think people are getting confused by the wording. Snipe Shot does not bypass water absorb/storm drain like Mold Breaker would.

However, it seems the implementation on showdown is still bugged regardless:

Yeah, I think the Sniper Set should be listed with scope lens/life orb. Focus Energy gives +2 crit rate so snipe shot which also gives +1 crit rate will sit at +3 and 100% crit. I think if you list the first move slot as hydro pump/snipe shot then you have two viable options. The scope lens/hydro pump set has all moves at 100% crit, but the life orb/snipe shot set has a powerful 100% crit STAB and the remaining two moves still sit at 50% crit. This obviously has some weaknesses (coverage crits are slightly RNG), but I think the increased power of life orb might be worth listing on the main set.

EDIT: Also, you may want to point out that 120 speed in the current still unfamiliar meta (where Thanos snapped half the threats away) is very powerful. There will of course always be scarfers, revenge killers, etc., but 120 speed is still incredible. Also, 125 Special Attack in this newly weakened meta is nothing to sneer at. Specs Primarina was a monster in last gen's UU, although I admit water/fairy is better than solely water, but water is still a great stab to have.

Seriously though, I'm glad GameFreak finally made a Pokemon that takes full advantage of critical hit mechanics. I was kinda hoping for a Technician + Frost Breath or Storm Throw Pokemon, but I think this works much better!

I’ve seen online a build with focus sash to get the boost and go from there, surely maybe banned somewhere and not good somewhere else, but is fun to play around it sometimes ;)

Setting focus energy tho need luck as the bulk just isn’t there

Am I the only one who thinks that surf is better than hydro pump? Because 90 base power is already good and we all know that an 20% odd of the move miss turns into 33% or more ( my perception ) in game .
But thats just my opinion , I'm the kind of player who used surf in greninja.
In inteleon's case I think that hydro pump would be unnecessary since the damage will alredy be multiplied by 2.25 .
Well, let's see...
  • On average, factoring accuracy, Surf would deal slightly more damage than Hydro Pump. (precisely 2 BP)
  • You might miss some KOs. (though i admit you could try to use Inteleon as a late-game cleaner after its checks are softened up... though if you're running the NP Focus Energy setup sweeper set, anything with a scarf would outspeed you... unless you run webs on your team)
  • On the other hand, you now have a perfectly reliable Water STAB.
  • You have 24 PP instead of only 8, so you can win matchups where the opponent spams recover more easily.
  • Hydro Pump gives MAX Geyser 140 BP, while Surf only gives it 130. (important point imo, even if that's just 10 BP more)
Overall, it really depends on you. Arguments could even be made for Scald, honestly. (though i'm not fully convinced on this one, despite the utility it gives - just for the sake of data, Scald!MAX Geyser is also 130 BP)
It really depends on you and your team. Maybe there's some threatening mons that you'd prefer to OHKO/2HKO with Hydro Pump, maybe you prefer to go the path of reliability. I don't think there's really any better move.

Alternatively, you could run both and forego coverage, though MAX moves already having perfect accuracy makes this somewhat less convenient and more redundant.

Hitting 2HKOes with hydro when you wouldn’t with surf is more than worth the downsides
Yeah, I completely agree. This is the same reason Specs Ash-Greninja always ran hydro pump over surf. It's not just the fact that you miss out on kills, it's also the fact that you won't always be in to stay. Sometimes you know your check might come in...but if you can kill it with hydro pump it's worth the risk to miss vs not killing it with surf and the mon gets healed later.

Aqua Jet, Ice Shard and Fell Stinger are really cool moves that just don't make sense/fit well with Intelleon, which is a shame. Makes me wanna try a pure physical set for the lulz though.

I've seen plenty of people argue that the reliability of Surf outshines the 20 bp damage bonus. It isn't an easily answered question. When you use hydro pump your opponent gains an option to simply stay in and hope for a miss, which at times may be a perfectly valid choice.

Without Chansey and a lower power level overall we may see more people choosing reliability over power.

It's gonna mainly depend on how the meta settles and whether Hydro Pump hits important benchmarks against high-tier/popular mons; if it doesn't hit enough relevant ones, then Surf will likely become a lot more popular and it returns to the subjective "damage or reliability" debate.

Personally, I think that on a Sniper set, Snipe Shot + Life Orb's going to be more useful than Hydro Pump + Scope Lens. Intel's movepool isn't fantastic to begin with, and with mono-Water stab, a team including would likely assume that intel's important damage contribution will be mainly mono-water.
Of course, this changes if you're planning on making Inteleon your preferred Dynamax, 100% crit Max moves are too good to pass up for LO damage.

Matleo

Banned deucer.
should Snipe Shot hit Dive, Fly, Bounce, Sky Drop, Phantom Force, Dig users in semi protected turns taking the nature of its effect? and have a build in "Infiltrator"? hit through Substitutes and even through Protects with even half power like during rain? would fit the name perfectly.

The lack of toxic, poison tail, cross poison, Axid Spray and Sludge Bomb for poison coverage worries me.
Like they wanted to protect Primarina and all fairies...

Do they need to create more water special attackers with so many strong ice moves? thought it will be water/poison physical attacker... would have accepted water/poison special attacker too with that speed and sp. attack. Then it could have gotten Motor Drive...

Hope it gets moveset buff with more shot, ball and bomb, moves, some fighting, dragon and other small coverage.

Breaking swipe but no dragon tail, dragon breath?

Investation and Leech life for bug coverage would be enough.

Sorry to revive a dead thread for a Pokemon not fit for OU, but I was left a bit confused about Snipe Shot from reading here. Does it definitely have the increased crit rate? I don't see anything about it on Serebii or Bulbapedia. Only place I can find anything is this forum and wasn't sure where that came from.
