Iron Chef Battle Pokemon! (War Story: Bass vs Curt)

I felt the name and introduction of this warstory overshadowed that actual battle...

Really? You both participated and both own the log. Personally, I'd care less if I got permission. However, war stories do need approval when u win, which I don't see-- but I'm pretty sure any mod would approve this one.

I'm not sure that you do need approval anymore Chou, I remember checking the war-story rules fairly recently but I could not find anything related to approval ... if you have a link to where it says this could you please share?

And even if they "stalk" you, unless they put your team into a notepad or save it or something they don't have somewhere they can go to reference it and look at your playstyle to boot.

Anyway, this is just whatever now.

People who are truly great never make excuses? Give me a break.

Besides, I never made an excuse for the battle; when I was stating the time and my mood it was in reference to my attitude towards him during the match. Plus he had some pretty annoying comments in the match IIRC that he conveniently left out.

Curt, the Gyarados awakening wasn't "God hating you". In fact, as sleep only lasts 4 turns at maximum in D/P, that it lasted 3 turns was luck on your behalf.

War stories do not need to be sent to mod before posting anymore, if it's insufficient it will just be axed like any other thread that does not promite meaningful discussion.

Curt and Gormenghast are right. You should have your opponent's consent before writing a warstory, although no one in this forum even does that.

I enjoyed this, every single bit of it. The beginning, the battle and the replies following the thread.

Well done, Bass.

Omg someone must be a douchebag for having an "off" battle. I'm sure none of you guys have ever done something like that, being the saints that you are.
No, but coming into someone's warstory thread of a good battle just to tell everyone they're douchebags for saying your conduct was unsportsman-like (which it was, bad day or not) and calling out the person who posted the story for "not asking your permission" does, at the very least, make you come off as more of a douchebag than less of one.

This was a great battle and, to repeat what has already been said, the maneuvering of Gyrados was really solid. There was no obvious victor the entire battle until it was more or less 2v1 (and a more or less dead Tyranitar) on a set up Gyrados who had previously been disabled. I think the only blaring mistake is not having a better Sleep absorber when you were very likely to be put to sleep from Roserade first turn, as an awake Gyrados would have posed a much bigger threat in the story than the sleeping one did (though the end result probably would have been much more in your favor and lead to a less readable warstory).
If this gets locked over not being approved, it'd be a shame since it was such a good read.

This is one of the best warstories I've seen in recent memory. I read every word of it, not only due to the quality of the battle, but because the excellent commentary let us know just what you were thinking. Good job.

I told you not to underrate yourself, bass =)

You must have, Taylor, he did something you could never accomplish. :D

Anyway, whatever this was a good battle and all; it's just disrespectful to someone to post a warstory without notifying them first or asking their permission, especially when it's a team that they could be testing it for a tournament or something like that.

When did I call anyone in this topic a douchebag?

Well, sorry if I gave you a bad impression by posting a good battle without your permission. I am kind of new to the art of "war story" writing, so I only tried following the rules that were currently written in the stickied topic. I didn't realize asking for permission to write a war story if you won is common courtesy, I assumed I could automatically because SePh gave me the recommendation, a battler who is a certified tutor of this site and one I deeply respect. But you have every right to come into this topic to respond to some of the harsh comments people left for you, but it isn't any better etiquette to come into my topic and say:

CLegacyM said:
b) it is posted by someone that I beat many times and it feels as if they are just posting it to say "hey, I beat this person"

I didn't write the war story for that reason at al, I respect your skill Curt, but I also wanted to write a creative war story, and this was the perfect battle for it. Judging by the overwhelmingly positive reaction this war story is receiving, I guess I have succeeded, aside from this minor quibble of not asking for your permission. I am sorry if I left some people in this topic a bad impression of you, and you have every right to attempt to respond to these, but try to respect the writer of the war story as well, I spent a lot of time on it, hoping you would like it too, while at the same time, stating my opinion of the battle.

And I appreciate the comments everyone, especially yours, Gouki :).

Now, I'm fairly new here and don't know most people's skill levels here. Also, I am fairly new to Shoddy and Warstories. But what I am posting is to prove something. Yes, posting a War Story without the opponents approval might be wrong, but D/C ing on Shoddy without a reason except for "I am having a bad day" is also wrong. If you are having a bad day, that doesn't give you the right to just D/C and not even say GG. If I know 5 turns in advance that I'm going to lose, I say right there, "gg" and continue the match untill I lose. That is what I call common Curtesy. I'm not saying you should be yelled at for D/C ing, but you should have a reason other than a bad day for D/C ing. If I have to D/C for some reason, I saw "GG, but I have to go" Normally I leave because I accidentally clicked the wrong team or I have to leave and it is a timed match.

Now please don't yell at me. Don't get me wrong, from watching that battle you both seem like seasoned battlers.

Great match, you both predicted well and I couldn't tell who would win until the very end. One of the best warstories I have read.

lol who cares about your opponent leaving? what is all this crying? how does somebody not have the "right" to leave a battle? hahaha "you didnt say gg i am sooooo offended!" are you serious? it's a free win!

it was an interesting battle though, it was fun enough to read (which is more than i can say for most of the new warstories). although, you really should have asked your opponent before posting this (and his team). i thought that was just common courtesy =\

Now I feel obligated to do a warstory with my tutee. Dammit. Well, I guess we'll talk about it.

Anyway, that was a fun match and I liked the whole Iron Chef thing.
