Jynx

It's a cool new ability, but unfortunately the fact it is illegal with Trick means it's useless to me. I'll be sticking with my existing Jynx set, so I'm disappointed it didn't gain anything move wise or even an evolution =(

Lead Jynx @ Choice Scarf
252 SpA / 252 Spe / 6 SpD
Modest
Forewarn
Trick
Lovely Kiss
Ice Beam
Energy Ball

This catches so many people off guard and can take out so many popular leads. Then it is used as a revenge killer later in the game with the strongest non-boosted Ice Beam in the game behind Glaceon.

I suppose its new ability gives it merit on rain teams too.

I think even Nintendo are afraid of what a Jynx Evo would look like...

On topic, Jynx finally got a useful ability (Albeit showing Nintendo's humour), and that's about it really.

I just now theorymonned a Hail offense set using:

Jynx w/ Salac Berry
Dry Skin
Timid
Substitute
Nasty Plot
Blizzard
Hidden Power Fire/Psychic

At least it does SOMETHING cool. Maybe a Scarf set too. I can only justify it on Hail teams though, since STAB Blizzard is all that really saves it.

Forewarn's better than a kick in the nuts, but a lot of the time it's going to give you brilliant insights like "this Doryuuzu has Earthquake!" Compare that to Dry Skin, which gives you immunity to a relatively predictable attacking type and which gives you more opportunities to switch in with a Pokemon with mediocre to poor defenses and typing.
The ability would be brilliant if it told you a random move. Well not brilliant, but much better.

Non-Water types that get Dry Skin/ Swift Swim are at an immediate disadvantage over Water types with Dry Skin/ Swift Swim because they don't get that awesome STAB bonus in rain. I mean, whos going to run Jynx in rain when they can just run something like Keldeo and destroy things with STAB, rain bonus Hydro Pump.

And even at that, shes outclassed by Toxicroak for the "non water type" role on a RD team, who just has much more utility, better typing, etc.

So unfortunately I don't see Dry Skin improving her usage much at all, beyond adding a nice immunity (which she resisted anyway). Magic Guard or Serene Grace would have been much better suited to Jynx's overall flavor.

Has anyone mentioned Frost Breath yet? After a NP thats bound to hurt.

It's true, the only thing I can think of using Jynx over Toxicroak with is because of Lovely Kiss and a much better abuser of Nasty Plot. Although I must mention - Jynx never resisted Water, Ice-types only resist themselves.

And Nasty Plot + Frost Breath sounds cool.

Oh ok, for some reason I had it in my head that Water and Ice both resisted each other. Fail for me (but the real loser is, as always, the Ice type).

Anyway, I did some calcs and Ice Beam beats Frost Breath every time. Quite amazingly, 252SpA +2 Ice Beam can 2HKO max HP, max SpD Ferrothorn, (which nobody runs) and can OHKO No HP, No SpD Ferrothorn (again, which no one runs). For a neutral hit thats very impressive.

The best set I can think of is:

Jynx @Life Orb
252SpA/ 252Spe/ 4 HP
Dry Skin | Modest
-Lovely Kiss
-Nasty Plot
-Ice Beam
-Focus Blast

Dry Skin actually makes Bulky Waters set up fodder for Jynx. Come in on a Surf or Scald, Lovely Kiss and then NP while they switch. Jynx can only really run one STAB on this set as running the two gives poor coverage. Ice Beam and Focus Blast offer the best coverage, but is walled by Chandelure (who will destroy Jynx anyway), and Jellicent (which can... burn Jynx?).

...thats pretty racist.

Oh come off it with the obligitory 'that's racist' knee-jerk reaction. The resemblance is uncanny. I always thought Jinx had an oprah vibe about her right down to the hair and the dress. (at least before oprah lost weight)

It's magically ok to compare her to lady gaga though, because lady gaga's not dark-skinned, eh?

Yeah, they sure do share a resemblance all right... right down to the long white hair, purple skin and big lips. YOU need to come off it and realise that whether you meant it or not, comparing a pokemon that is (at least partly) based on blackface with an actual black person is racist as fuck. You make that comparison in real life and people will come for your ass.

I have an amozing set that works in all tiers (besides uberz of course :P)
Since uu's are my spciality jynx turned out to be one of my favourite pokes in uu.

Jynx
Ability-Forewarn
Nature-Timid (+Spd, -Atk)
Focus Sash
Move 1-Ice Beam
Move 2-Psychic
Move 3-Hidden Power (Fire)
Move 4-Nasty Plot
So the main srtategy is to send out as a lead and set up with nasty plot on the first turn (You will get lucky if they set up rocks or something cause sash doesnt activate). Her speed will be 317 which speed ties max speed darmanitan. With nasty plot the sp.atk is amazing and if you still have the sash she can take 1 hit for sure. Forewarn because with sunny day teams ou in this gen you take damage from sun with dry skin which breaks the sash.

For one, Jynx has a purple face, not a black one. It used to be black but Nintendo changed it because it seemed racist. Also, there is nothing racist about saying Jynx looks like Oprah. Calling a black person black is not racist. Calling a black person a criminal without reason is racist.

On topic, I don't think that Jynx is worth it for a Nasty Plot sweeper. Even in NU, base 95 Speed just won't cut it. Also, priority rapes Jynx due to her weakness to both Bullet Punch and Mach Punch. Base 35 Defense doesn't help either.

It used to be black because Jynx is partly based on Zwarte Piet, which is, guess what, a semi- racist caricature (blackface) of a black person who helps Santa. Google it. Nintendo changed it because it WAS racist.

Racism is a bit less of a sensitive issue in Japan and is often never usually meant to be harmful, so some things get lost in translation including Jynx.

All things said, the only ways in which Jynx resembles Oprah are the features that are left over from her "blackface" origins, so comparing her to Oprah is pretty racist.

On topic, Jynx is only weak to Bullet Punch. Psychic neuters the Ice weakness to Fighting. Scizor will still destroy her horrifically though.

Correction: Bullet Punch and Sucker Punch. After all, Sucker Punch tends to be more common in UU and NU than it is in OU.

a nice junx set that i have been trying out to moderate success in a rain stall team of mine is this:

jynx@focus shash or leftovers
timid 252/252/6 hp/speed/sp.def
dry skin
-lovely kiss
-mean look
-perish song
-protect

this junx can be useful sometimes and eliminate certain troublesome pokes.the first thing that it does nicely is beat this last poke-booster that many stall teams have trouble with.some popular last pokes are suicune and reuniclus and both are handled well by this set.anyway this junx doesn't mind entry hazards so much 'cause she has semi reliable recovery.she can function simply as a somewhat speedy sleeper and generally an annoyer.she can even survive a nasty hit due to focus shash and protect(as long you have rain up getting jynx back to 100% is not hard with protect)and perish song them to phaze them out or kill them.also a very nice pro that this set has is the element of surprise because most of the times the opponent sends in a completely wrong counter to this kind of junx(f.e.ferrothorn who gets fucked up badly).

Try Recycle over Protect.

Mean Look first, take the hit to 1 HP, heal 12.5% under Rain due to Dry Skin.

Lovely Kiss to put them to Sleep. Heal another 12.5% under Rain.

Perish Song while they are trapped. Heal another 12.5% under Rain.

Recycle so Focus Sash is returned. Heal another 12.5% under Rain.

Since all moves are used, and you want Jynx to be safe before they wake-up, switch her out for future use.

At this point you are at 50% + 1 HP, so you can repeat the process the next time, say you send in a trapper like a Pursuit or Arena Trapper to finish the foe off.

Foe #2: Jynx 50% HP

Lovely Kiss first, since you need to stall turns of healing before Focus Sash can activate. Heal another 12.5% under Rain.

Perish Song on their switch. Heal another 12.5% under Rain. HP is now 75%.

Mean Look if the foe doesn't seem threatening; perhaps a wall, or Water type that only packs Water and Ice moves, you are now at 87.5% HP. Then Perish Song them as you heal back to 100% HP or take a weak hit while stalling out Perish Song.

Otherwise switch, and simply switch Jynx back in the turn Perish Song activates on the opponent; heal to 87.5% HP. (Perish Song's countdown makes it easy to know when to send Jynx back in, since the foe will be forced to switch. Now, unless the foe stays in to use U-turn or Volt Change on the turn they would normally switch out, Jynx should be safe to switch back in... Baton Pass doesn't matter since it doesn't hurt Jynx and no one wants to Baton Pass a Perish Song!)

With the switches caused by Jynx through Lovely Kiss, and Perish Song the entry hazard damage will add up, and the free heals from Dry Skin will make Jynx able to refresh her HP and abuse Recycle + Focus Sash. Just be sure to have Rain up and perhaps Espeon to bounce away entry hazards on your team.

Ice/Psychic typing with 35 defence would make Jynx a dead weight for most teams. Even the trapping set would have a hard time killing anything.

Time to breathe some new life into this Ice Queen now that Dry Skin Jynx is officially released.

Jynx (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Dry Skin
EVs: 200 HP / 56 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Frost Breath
- Calm Mind
- Lovely Kiss
- Substitute

This is probably one of my favorite Pokemon to use in PO's DW OU. It's basically the polar opposite of Bulk-Up Toxicroak. Switch into Politoed as it uses anything other than status moves, Sub, then Calm Mind until a Jynx counter shows up then put it to sleep & go back to Calm Minding. Frost Breath is just to bust through any other Calm Minders & Baton Pass teams making Jynx an effective switch-in to CM Reuniclus as long as Lovely Kiss hits.

She's just fun and no one seems to know what to do against her. Especially Rain teams.

Does Frost Breath effectively have 80 BP that ignores modifiers? Or does the Crit formula work differently?

^Pretty sure that's exactly how it works.

Welp. Time to remove Starmie from most of my rain teams. Unless I carry power gem, I'm setup fodder for Jynx.

The best Jynx can really do is to switch in on a Water move, TrickScarf, and Lovely Kiss the switch-in.

Set Name : Stop hitting yourself
Drag Queen @ Choice Scarf
Ability : Dry Skin
Nature : Timid
EVs : 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
- Trick
- Lovely Kiss
- Substitute
- Sweet Kiss

Trick your Scarf over, sleep a switch-in, confuse the next switch-in and hopefully get a sub up. Then just spam status.

Sigh. That 35 Def...

Edit: Jynx doesn't get Trick. Ah, I got nothing.

I really like the looks of that set, I'm seriously going to try that out when it becomes legal, it just seems so fun to use.
