SPOILERS! Legends ZA Data Dumps - Adding Info to OP

Somewhat bittersweet that Mega Dimension will probably be the last mainline Pokemon game datamine for a very long time given how multiple experts have said that the Switch 2 almost certainly will not be cracked anytime soon. I guess they could lose it and put Gen 10 on the Switch 1 but that seems unlikely
I'll try to be positive about it.

Being able to "go in the game blind" with 0 informations about what's in it on the internet other than the official sources and maybe the leaks will be a interesting "old" experience compared to going into the games while already knowing every single new pokemon coming out.

Also will save us from the constant doomposting about how pokemon competitive scene is permanently ruined forever every time a new pokemon comes out

People said the same thing about the 3DS. Then shortly after XY oh hey we broke everything open.

If there's one thing that'll get people to break things it's Pokemon.

I'll be sad.

Will there likely be a data mine before release for this DLC? I am doubting it as I assume there are no physical copies with the DLC being released, at least one day 1.

Was asking about this few days ago and it seems chances are low. Maybe depending on time zones some might get it late 9th. But not much.
Still, it's only a bit more than 2 days.

Of course, the funny thing is that even if S2 continues to have an extended time where we cant dig into the innards of its game, with Pokemon specifically for the stuff people generally care about the most will still be viewable via Home & Champion datamines 3-6 months later (or day of, for DLC).

Unlike an eShop preorder unlock at local midnight, the digital update will release simultaneously for everyone, with the SV releases being at 1 AM UTC for example. No region is getting it earlier than another.

One thing I'm disappointed about with the DLC is that level 100 mons will finally have an in-game challenge, which would be perfect for getting to use level 100 mons sitting in the retirement HOME, but compatibility is not scheduled for at least 3 weeks following the DLC release. It sure could've been sweet to finally get to use that level 100 shiny Zeraora from the IoA raids during the story, but I guess it would just be too game breaking if we got to battle level 167 Alolan Marowak with it. :psygrump:
We should just be satisfied with getting to use it in ranked once it becomes legal alongside primal Groudon. :/

Well, I'm going to try and hold off playing the DLC until HOME compatibility arrives so that I can play through with Marshadow and maybe the aforementioned Zeraora. Unless it turns out Marshadow is a save bonus that you can get basically right away. I may have to finally open that copy of Tears of the Kingdom that I bought on sale at Costco forever ago and never got around to playing...
What all comes in the DLC in pokémon z-a

I'm assuming all of the new legendary/mythical in the DLC will also be shiny locked? I know we can't know for sure right now, but recall reading that was most likely going to be the case.

Which office supplies have people not tried yet?

What do you mean? I think the problem is the software itself and not related to any hardware hurdles.

People think it's likely just because that's how they handled all the legendary & mythical Pokemon here. I don't see that suddenly changing, especially for the mythics.

As an aside it's kinda nutty the last time you could shiny hunt any legend in a main game was BDSP. At least with SV it seemed like as much a purposeful lock as it was a weird/janky constraint with putting set spawns in the overworld (if you hack them to be shiny it doesnt show on the OW and the animation just kind of jutters iirc), but it'd be nice if they would like. Fix that at some point for Gen 10, maybe.

All someone has to do is dump the ROM online, bypassing the need to jailbreak a Switch 2

I think the problem is no one has cracked the S2 roms?
Like no one can dig around, say, the Mario Kart World ROM. But we can dig into Z-A because it's also a S1 game.

At least I think so, last I heard it's why we had to keep manually recording (both the text of and the literal recordings of the songs) the million songs in MKW.

R_N is about right here, if you think about it being possible then it would've been done before now. But also the post above that is just a false premise. In other words, the root of the problem is that the ability to "dump the ROM" is dependent on "the need to jailbreak a Switch" 1/2 (and its encryption keys to not be useless) in the first place, so there's not going to be any bypassing of anything while the Switch 2 itself is secured.

If anything it would be more likely for the data to get out by gamefreak getting hacked again.

So Mimikyu was on one of the leaked lists. Wondering how this would work. Will the first hit taken absorb the damage and will it switch forms, or will it be sent out in battle in "busted" form?

I don't see why it wouldn't just work like normal. One thing to skip on, like, Mega Kangaskhan's Parental Bond, but Mimikyu's disguise is ENTIRELY the point of the Pokemon. It would be very unusual to have Busted Form either not happen at all or be the default.

You're probably right. Again looking at the leaked list, a lot new signature moves. Like Garganacl with Salt Cure. Bitter Blade and more. I'm wondering if all of those will return. Could see a decent sized move pool increase.

tbh kinda surprised they didn't do mega mimikyu or tinkaton. granted if they were only gonna add one new fairy mega for this dlc magearna would've been my preferred choice but still

Mega Tinkaton in particular seems like it would be such an obvious invitation. It’s really popular, and concept-wise you would just make the hammer Even Bigger! (And maybe add some Corviknight feathers as accents / armor lol)

Magearna strikes me as a much stranger choice for a Mega candidate given that it is so thoroughly not an organic lifeform, unlike every other Pokémon with a Mega — Magearna is a robot powered by soul magic. Then again, maybe that’s all the more reason to go for it; pushing the boat out. (Also, it just occurred to me that you could basically describe Golurk the same way, and it’s also getting a Mega, huh.)

I do remember the 3DS, AKA one of the most famously hacked consoles of all time, being seen as unhackable in the leadup to XY's release, and the whole deal of trying to reverse calculate base stats for new 'mons and megas (which was compounded by Kalos having weird stats), or having to hunt for Megas, or not knowing the encounters of any place, or the whole "new sprites" being bad screenshots. Which, well, lol, lmao.

Diancie, Hoopa and Volcanion, Mega Latias and Mega Latios, AND Thousand Waves and Thousand Arrows, all found within months.

Switch 2 likely to end up going a similar way.

My best guess for why they'd pass on it is because maybe they felt "little fairy guy holding a weapon where the Mega makes said weapon bigger" was too conceptually similar to Eternal Floette. Then again, this sorta conflicts with why I'm excited for Mega Magearna: I always wanted to see it in a Kalos game specifically because of all the strange parallels it has with Floette and the Ultimate Weapon (It's a Fairy type automaton powered by life energy whose energy cannon signature move is flower-themed). Even if they don't do any sophisticated lore tie-ins like they did with Zygarde I have to believe its inclusion is deliberate for this reason and they'll call attention to these parallels somehow, even if it's something as simple as, say, a stray line of dialogue from Urbain/Taunie

There's also imo one more issue with a ipotetical "Mega Tinkaton".
Tinkaton's design, both conceptually and gameplay wise, is all based around the big bonk.

This poses the balance limitation where since his entire combat distribution is based around the fact it has a 160 BP move, they cant touch his attack, nor can give it a offensive ability, and giving it a defensive distribution doesn't exactly change anything about how it plays.
That means that a ipotetical Mega Tinkaton would basically just be "tinkaton but edgier" which... I mean, sure, some megas do pull this off decently, but it's a big design limitation and the kind of designs I'd only see happen if one of the artists had a epiphany and everyone liked whatever cursed idea they came up with for the look.

I'll just assume their brain storming session just didn't land on [popular pokemon] before they moved on to other designs they thought looked interesting, quirky or perhaps (depending on how it all goes) plot-relevant.

See also: Ceruledge is very popular, present in the DLC, owned by an anime character so you can even give that to him if you wanted later down the line, and Slowbro (& Glalie back in the day) prove you don't even need to give one to Armarouge if you don't want. But no mega. Scovillain time, baby!!!

That said...
I don't think it would be edgier at all. I also think that, for a Mega, they would if anything love to lean into a goofy design spamming the super move. They're megas being OP is one of their MOs, being goofy is another of their MOs.

"Tinkaton's mighty hammer has become even mightier by absorbing all of the mega energy! It looks strangely like a corviknight taking flight...and lifting Tinkaton by her hand!?"
