SPOILERS! Legends ZA Data Dumps - Adding Info to OP

It really interests me how they will handle Gholdengo and, even more, Meltan and Melmetal and if we will be able to evolve to them in-game.
For Gimmighoul honestly it'd be pretty easy to just bring over the same exact gimmick. Find roaming gimmighoul or beat up chest gimmighoul, both presumably scattered around hyperspace, and earn the Coins

For Meltan...
Option 1: Meltan isn't actually available in the DLC proper; it's just something you transfer over. In this situation I think they still don't let you evolve the thing just like in SWSH. It's only here out of obligation for having Melmetal
Option 2: Meltan is available in the DLC proper. For lore reasons, it would be easy to give it the same method as Gimmighoul just with some Meltan "material", but I think they'd only want one of those around at once so probably just make a new item you give it instead. Make it the Mystery Box.

Transfer over through Home? I suppose that means no Meltan when the DLC drops. And probably no Melmetal?

Just because Home isnt there doesn't mean they can't distribute them via events (like they did for G-max melmetal) or just... be in the game.
Meltan and Melmetal can both be around even if you can't evolve one into the other after all.

In my scenario I somehow doubt they'll release a Z-A specific Meltan in the...however long...I mean I still feel like January is in the cards so only a couple weeks in that scenario... between the DLC drop and the Home update.
And the "be in the game" is what my entire second option is about.

Also chuckling at your G-Max Melmetal mention because that one was given out...through Home.

My best guess for why they'd pass on it is because maybe they felt "little fairy guy holding a weapon where the Mega makes said weapon bigger" was too conceptually similar to Eternal Floette. Then again, this sorta conflicts with why I'm excited for Mega Magearna: I always wanted to see it in a Kalos game specifically because of all the strange parallels it has with Floette and the Ultimate Weapon (It's a Fairy type automaton powered by life energy whose energy cannon signature move is flower-themed). Even if they don't do any sophisticated lore tie-ins like they did with Zygarde I have to believe its inclusion is deliberate for this reason and they'll call attention to these parallels somehow, even if it's something as simple as, say, a stray line of dialogue from Urbain/Taunie
and another thing about magearna, it was in a kalos movie too (and one about rampaging megas no less). and given legends z-a has at least some slight allusions to the anime (ange paralleling zygarde’s vines in XYZ) i’d say it showing up and getting some new doodads with the mega is more than warranted.

Mega Tinkaton in particular seems like it would be such an obvious invitation. It’s really popular, and concept-wise you would just make the hammer Even Bigger! (And maybe add some Corviknight feathers as accents / armor lol)

Magearna strikes me as a much stranger choice for a Mega candidate given that it is so thoroughly not an organic lifeform, unlike every other Pokémon with a Mega — Magearna is a robot powered by soul magic. Then again, maybe that’s all the more reason to go for it; pushing the boat out. (Also, it just occurred to me that you could basically describe Golurk the same way, and it’s also getting a Mega, huh.)

The main sticking point against Mega Tinkaton would be the development timeline if anything. Depending on when PLZA's development actually got started, Game Freak might not have been able to gauge reception to Gen 9 mons and then use that as a basis for what to give Megas to.

(Mega Bax was probably a safe bet due to being the pseudo.)

Well, yeah, obviously. Mega Baxcalibur was planned from Baxcalibur's inception, so there was no need to gauge Baxcalibur's popularity. It was described as having a sword on its back, but the base form really doesn't have an actual sword sticking out of its back. It's only after it has Mega Evolved does it really truly have a sword sticking out its back and even a hilt out of its chest.

I suspect that some of the mythicals are going to be available to catch in hyperspace pockets that you can only get to using donuts distributed as mystery gifts (or maybe obtainable in-game somehow). We know there are donuts for kyogre and groudon.

Which means there is definitely going to be a way to catch meltan and/or melmetal, mons whose heads are shoe-ins for donutification, in-game.

I'd say the development timeline was pretty lenient such that, if they really wanted to pull on popularity, they had plenty of time to do so. Especially in regards to planning Z-A's DLC, which would have had more time to choose its megas if really needed. Even if they locked them in by the time the game went gold, there's still time to tweak things or swap things out if they aren't working.

Again I do not think there was any big reason to why a popular mon didn't get chosen. Every batch of megas has had Pokemon where you go "where is ___" or "why didn't ____ get one". Sometimes they just want randos.

Hm, scenario 2 seams like more fun.

Also an underratted stupid Evo we have is Runerigus. If they find an alt way to evolve it would be nice.

And Hisui love child of Kleavor. Let's hope they don't just repeat the sin of Scarlet/Violet...

Reunrigus I think they just have you use a Dusk Stone. The arch thing was basically a location evolution with extra steps, so removing said steps and letting you just use a stone like the other location-based mons is the path of least resistance.

I'll be honest, about Kleavor, there is no path where I will not be annoyed.
STILL cannot evolve the dumb thing directly? Absurdly, justifiably annoyed. Just put in the damn Aurgurite! Oh my god!
CAN evolve the dumb thing directly? Absurdly, irrationally annoyed because you could have done that in SV! Oh my god!!

Can fell you there...
The fact you can get Overquill but not Wyrdeer in SV is still so absurd for me...

They should've made all Hisuian Forms and Hisuian Evolutions available in Timeless Woods, as simple as that...

Here’s hoping they’ll let Meltan evolve via the Metal Alloy, especially because they’re gonna have to change it eventually if Pogo falls off far enough

Let’s play a game. Post what stats you think all the Megas will get. Once they get revealed we subtract the differences and who ever gets the least amount of points wins.

The Meowstics only have one listing so I assume they just get the same statline.

The Tatsugiris getting different statlines would be nice, if only because it'd get a lot of additions to its movepool to facilitate something like being a physical attacker, but I have a strong suspicion there's only 3 of them so they can maintain the Commander gimmicks.

Meowstick can get G-Max Appleton/Flaplle treatment with 1 design but different Stat distribution

G-Max Appleton & Flapple are still different Pokemon internally. They do not share a slot.

Mega Meowstic, as far as I'm aware, is set to just have 1 slot. Tatsugiri has 3, Magearna has 2.
Can you even make a good Mega with shared stats?

Unless they invest all into SpA, SpD and SPE right?

The Meowstics already share stats, so that doesn't matter much. Their differences were only in their visuals, movepools & hidden ability. Both are fast with ok sp atk and sp def and slightly less ok defense/hp. It's easy to see something like +25 SpA, SpD, Speed, +15 Defense, +10 Attack.

In that case, +20 to all stats

personally, i think that mega meowstic will have pretty min-maxed stats mostly going into sp.atk and speed (reaching something like 133/124?) and raichu x will cut/not invest in those same stats so it can have more bulk (especially physically), but i otherwise don't feel confident on guessing really any other stats than that

anyway last minute story prediction:
mega dimension will reveal to us that the whole time, urbain/taunie's mom was actually
xerosic
