Social LGBTQIA+

Unless you actually start a revolution, be prepared to be part of the resistance. When social safety nets get cut, you will need to replace them as a community. When safe access to hrt is impossible through legal means, you will need to provide it as a community. When the police refuse to protect you, you will need to take care of eachother as a community.
this is something more people need to emphasize imo. politicians have never been our friends and they won't be for a while. we might not even see it in our lifetimes. it's important to put our foot down and make it clear that even if they don't have our backs, we have each other's. this comes in the form of creating safe spaces when public spaces aren't protected for us anymore. it comes in the form of mutual aid when queer (and other) necessities become less accessible, be that monetarily or just in terms of availability. it comes in the form of being ready to listen to other queer people when they're expressing discontent with everything going on and not trying to sound like you have all the answers, bc frankly nobody really does. this isn't a guaranteed thing. the people who fought for our rights decades ago didn't have a guidebook to getting shit done, and we don't either, but they managed to give us some legroom to work with and it's up to us to leverage that while also ensuring the future generations of guys, gals and enby pals can put up a fight as well.

i'm gonna be so honest - i'm feeling sort of exhausted myself despite everything that i'm saying. i'm sorry if that sounds bad coming from a canadian, but it's so tiring. the two party system is fucking garbage for marginalized people because if you're not a cishet able bodied rich christian white man, you're somewhere on the chopping block and there isn't a point where the knife will stop as democrats keep trying to pander to more "moderate conservatives". it's not an overnight change, but i don't buy that we need to sacrifice trans lives in order to save them later down the line. that's not a compromise i'm willing to accept. we all get through this together or we all get fucked over, but if we divide ourselves in a time where community is more important than ever then they'll just pick us off one by one.

and if you think you're safe just because you aren't trans - or even because you're just an ally to the queer community, you're not. they'll come for all of us at one point or another and it'll be a lot easier to answer that when we unite rather than when we push people towards the guillotine being like "just keep walking, we'll stop it before you get there".

one more thing - there's absolutely no reality where you should be entertaining sacrificing trans rights when marsha p. johnson, sylvia rivera, zazu nova and miss major griffin-gracy were some of the most influential figures in the stonewall riots and fight for lgbtq+ rights in general. every single one of those people were trans and being willing to compromise the rights of trans people fought for by trans people is beyond disrespectful to their legacy. if empathizing with trans people seeing their rights being taken away isn't enough for you to not settle for that compromise (and it really should be), let it be the knowledge that you'd be disrespecting people so important to our history and culture

First they came for the communists and I did not speak out because I was not a communist.
Then they stopped and it was all sunshine and flowers from there on.

That's how the poem goes, right?

Fascist movements inherently require an out-group whom can be responsible for all of society's ills. Once they've suppressed or eliminated that outgroup, they will always move onto another. They need to; they aren't building a functioning society and someone has to take the blame for its woes. Other members of the LGBTQ+ community, documented immigrants who don't tow the MAGA line, and 'radical leftists' (read: anyone to the left of a center-right establishment Democrat) will be next on the chopping block. Appeasing fascists has literally never, not even once, been a winning strategy, and you're a fool if you think throwing trans people to the wolves is a tactically sound idea even from a completely cold, moralless, win-at-all-costs perspective.

I suggest you turn off notifs for reactions for a while, it'll help a little bit to not feeling hurt on people just haha'ing you.

Anyways, favorite cartoon that has lgbtq+ representation in a positive light? Mine are a bit vanilla like Steven Universe and Adventure Time. Steven Universe made me more accepting and open-minded to such matters, while Adventure Time just made me enjoy the sweet romances in all forms like Marceline and PBB of course ^^

In terms of favorite lgbtq+ shows, centaurworld. A lot of the Netflix animated shows are hidden gems on a otherwise mediocre platform and centaurworld does not dissapoint its so great and goofy

I'm not a fan of normal romance in media, and it's in so many things at this point. It's very hard to find a show, movie, book, anime, or manga without a shoehorned romantic subplot for some reason or another. I'm always looking for things that center around LGBTQ+ representation or romance because I find it much more interesting to watch personally. No offence to anyone who is a fan of romcoms and the like, I just find cishet romances to be so overdone that it's boring to me. A person can only take so much of watching an anime where the male main character is forced into some weird romance with the female main character just...because they're male and female I guess? I wish more things tried to go for a different dynamic instead of romance, y'know? Have two different gender main characters that are just friends and really delve into that kind of friendship dynamic. I might be ranting at this point, but the point about LGBTQ+ representation in media got me thinking. Also, shout out to the asexuals that also deserve some love in media where a lot of things are unfortunately based around sex all the time.

im a bit weird because if the lgbt representation doesnt have a struggle related to it/the world is completely accepting of gay folks, i find it boring and uninteresting. I know its escapism for people and id never want it to stop being made, but for me escapism only works for things that are achievable in my lifetime, which complete acceptance wont lol.

for me escapism is about lgbt characters who struggle against discrimation but get to survive and thrive and meet other people. they get to create their own corner in the world. id like to do that someday

You just reminded me my embarrassingly searching phase of realistic BL, one attached with some realistic discrimination/conflict with a character. If you want internal conflict, I suggest Semantic Error (if your into manhwa), as the main character struggles to accept his own terms on who he should love.
Although it kind of felt like (only to me though) that it was shoehorned in the resolution by one side character who was a female that used to have a crush on him by having a small debate with him in a fitting way that suits his character throughout the whole story.
Another one has got to be My Love Mix-up (specifically the live action one), it's basically a miscommunication that sends four highschool students into their destined loved one. It's a high school romance that doesn't really focus entirely on difficulties of being gay in Japan but the two main characters are aware of it due to one scene where they let their hands go when they see two people passing by them. And finally one that I haven't really watched but am really interested in due to how one guy explained literally two side characters and it already made me feel like the story is realistic with how it's story goes. And that is the Mom, I'm gay manga. I won't spoil too much but it's premise is one gay sonand lesbian daughter's lives turn upside down when their family figures it out. The artstyle is simple but cute. Anyways that's all I can reccommend for realistic or sprinkle of realism of lgbtq+ in media.

P.S. For Semantic Error, I quickly scrolled through for atleast twice only in what you can say "fan service" you usually see in BL (hint: it's a bed and the main couple), but it's kind of integral to the story but you can quickly skip those and still get the plot ^^.

(Will edit later to fix the format as well)
EDIT: I will not change the format and am too lazy to do it if ever.

Aight I've decided to go rather nuclear and clear out most of the political posts here from the past couple days. I don't condone "react bullying" but I'm also of the opinion that if you make an unpopular opinion post, maybe don't be surprised people take it unpopularly? Let's remember that as LGBT+ we're all on the same side here (mostly), we can have differing opinions on approach and lifestyle, but at the end of the day we're all disenfranchised in some capacity. Also, while politics is pretty intertwined to us, let's also remember there's a reason that thread got nuked.

im leaving. I'd love to make a big grandiose speech as to why, but I already did that, and it got deleted. I'm not sure what i will be aloud to say, so I'll try to keep it as unheated as possible. if anyone wants to know why, or just wants to tell me how they feel about what I said, feel free to pm me. I'm not kidding when I say you can write a five paragraph essay on why what I posted was incredibly harmful and why you hate me. you have every right to, and I will read it and if you so desire respond. I want you all to know that while this may have been... exausting to say the least, I will not hold anything against any of you. for as much as I complained about some peoples actions, I completely understand why you did that. I hope we can all leave this without any ill will towards each other, but I can understand if that's too naive a hope. have a good one.

not particularly related to recent discussion, but i find it somewhat irritating when people make gendered assumptions. it's fairly common to be online and see someone identify herself as she/her and be automatically assumed to be a woman, even by otherwise inclusive people. this always seems exclusionary to me; even when assumptions like this are correct it serves to delegitimize gendernonconformity. i try to remind people that gendered terms are not entailed by each other, but it's frustrating to have to do this. perhaps i'm tilting at windmills, but i feel like this stuff happens fairly frequently.

there isn't really a point i'm making i guess, but i'd like to see people in general do a better job of this.

Hard agree, as a whole I hate how everything has gendered assumptions around it, even unconsciously. Maybe I’m too soft but whatever

If u had to make a list of the top 10 gay icon music artists, what would it be
chappell roan, renee rapp, and doechii are all super popular artists rn - first two are lesbian icons and doechii is bisexual. i like clairo's music too and she's bi. billie eillish is lesbian (last i checked..? apologies if im spreading misinfo). i like demi lovato, idk if they identify as queer rn bc they did say the switch to they/them pronouns was exhausting to constantly have to explain but i do believe they're nonbinary and people are just too stupid to understand how gender neutral pronouns work, full shade. ethel cain is a trans woman and she's an absolute queen, I fucking love everything about her. towa bird is also incredible

other queer artists I know of but don't listen to are frank ocean, lil nas x and troye sivan. i also keep hearing mixed things about whether or not lady gaga's queer or an ally and i strictly listen in on those conversations because i don't believe in speculating on an artist's sexuality, but she's still an icon and the queer community loves her.

he also (last I checked) isn't queer but I need shawn mendes in a way that'd get this entire post deleted, send several moderators to therapy and probably put me on several lists (although I heard they're using groupchats now). anyways

edit: rina sawayama is pan and an absolutely incredible artist. i love most of her songs. big recommend

some of my favorite queer artists who may not be as 'iconic' but still really cool

  • hikaru utada (actual icon; pop genius w/ some of the most unhinged and beautiful production choices of all time. personal fave is dirty desire which is like the only song that can rival britney spears blackout era)
  • t.a.t.u (russian pop with a strange history... even so no other song captures the sense of longing the way all the things she said does)
  • yeule (genrebending, v interesting and specific aesthetically ; my fave song of theirs is noise pop/shoegazey dazies. will hit you like a mf if this is your type of thing)
  • laura les (half of the 100 gecs; hyperpop heroes w/ money machine and took a new rock-like approach w/ dumbest girl alive; great solo artist too (see: alice glass/crystal castles-like haunted)
  • jane remover (most important artist in the hyperpop-adjacent sphere right now. have admittedly never listened to her solo albums but i really fuck w/ her jersey club/vaporwave-inspired dariacore series, especially grave robbing)
  • sophie (RIP every time i think about her i start crying because she was supposed to change everything. see: faceshopping)
  • shygirl (UK hiphop w/ lots of catchy hooks, body & sex positive lyrics)
  • zebra katz (hiphop-adjacent but very sonically diverse. see lick it n split ft shygirl for some raunchy russian bass bop)

some of my other favorite queer songs by artists of various identities
underworld - born slippy (nuxx) .. she was a beautiful boy...
susumu hirasawa - siren [album] was strongly inspired by his trips to Thailand & interactions with the Kathoey population
yves tumor - noid
deftones - digital bath (for me, at least)
the smiths - there is a light that never goes out (for as much a prick morrissey is one of the great writers of yearning)
azealia banks - 212
babylon zoo - spaceman

always down to talk queer anime & movies too

Some of my fav brazilian lgbt artists. Mostly modern:

Pabllo Vittar - Pabllo is a gay man, though the artist persona is a drag queen and thus should have she/her used. Icon of pop funk.
Gloria groove - another drag queen, she's got a bit of a mix of funk and pagode and r&b.
Jaloo - Nonbinary genderfluid (she/her only for her though). Indie/synth pop artist

Update: just made through a day of school. I’ve told some close friends but it’s hard to just tell it to them. It definitely feels better but calder still exists. Sometimes it feels like there are both Calder and cedar. But yeah, being called a she and painting my nails and growing my hair long and wearing a dress makes me feel happy so I’ll figure it out. But yeah anyways…
I know I said I would leave, and I will for the most part, but I just saw this, and I really wanted to share it.
To be clear, I am not sharing this to prove a point. I am sharing this because in these times of hardship, we need some good news. And you would be hard pressed to not call this good news.
my phone just doesn’t show videos or whatever it is. Literally just a blank space, unless that was the joke.

I know I double posted but I think they weren’t just spam
