Pretty much in a line is like this:

PPPPPWPPPPW

P=non-wiggling patches
W=wiggling patches

Also if 2 patches are connected then that means they transfer their chances to each other and could also make the other patches safeness go down or up. A direct 4-away is this:

YPPPW

The patch is directly 4 away from where you are resetting.
 
I finally got a chain of 40 today. After breaking countless chains (I guess I'm not patient enough) I reached a chain of 40 on Chatot. I was only able to get 3 shinies out of it. =( And they all sucked in Sp.Atk AND Speed! =(

I never realized how long this process takes in real time. You guys make it sound so easy and not as time consuming. Oh well... I guess I'll try another chain later after I recover from this trip.
 
Well if two patches are connecting you definitely shouldn't be entering them if that's what you're asking, that's pretty basic. You shouldn't be entering "direct" 4-aways either. And two patches being in a line has no real relevance I don't think.
 
Well I finally have my perfect chansey bred, and i'm going to take a break from breeding and start chaining. My swarm today is Pidgey, should I do the time trick to get a new one?
 
Yes but if the 3 away and 4 away are connected horizontally or vertically side by side and are both of the same wiggling type and the 1 and 2 away aren't in a line with another patch, it should be safe if they're in a line w/ each other and are of the opposite shaking patch type then the 4 away's safeness goes up. I've done this patch formation so many times and it's never broken my chain so it's got to be safe.

EDIT: And you're probably wondering where I'm getting this information and I'll tell you, it's from Serebii.net's chaining guide which I think has been a big help in why I have so many shinies.

Icy J - Despite the fact that my Pidgey is one of my most impressive shinies, there's a lot cooler swarms out there. Your call though, it looks cool and is pretty easy if nothing else.

Yeah I just reset swarm until I got one I liked. I'm chaining snubbull right now. They're bitches. One break at 40 by accidentally walking up, and one break at 37 from a supposedly optimal patch. I hope you take the time to look at the PM I sent you, I would be interested to see what you think.
 
I finally got back into chaining today and caught 2 Budew (chain's still going). My YouTube channel's also been finally updated with a new video. ^^
 
2 boxes so far, and still going.

This is my largest chain yet, and I don't plan to stop anytime soon.

It be so awesome to get something along the lines of x/x/x/31/x/31 with good defenses..
 
I found out something interesting yesterday while Chaining Magnemites. Its possible to get 2 Shiny patches in a single Radar Scan! I had something like this:

Still trying for that Modest Hp Ice. I'm having better luck with abilities this time around with over 90% having Magnet Pull so hopefully something good comes out of it.
 
90%?!?! Jesus Christ. I assume you just switch out a Steel-type to test it? Do you kill off the Sturdy ones or do you just do it to judge how much more you need to chain?

Yes Approximately over 90% but unfortunately the only usable hped one was Sassy with Magnet Pull.

Sassy 26/25/7/30/23/27 Hp Grass 68 which I got pretty early in the chain. Yea I kill off the Sturdies, I have a Heatran with me. :P

@Rare Breed, no Synch or just Rotten Luck.

RareBreed - Are you sure that's what happened? The probability of that is astronomical to say the least. Approximately (1/50)^18.

wow dude. You are the most unlucky person in the world. Go play the lottery. Now. You had the most unlikely chance of getting that. I'm sure the chances of inning the lottery are much higher comparitevly (lol spelling). So you should go for it!
 
I had a nightmare I broke my chain it was terrifying and wierd.

Anyways I never knew chaining would take so long I have 16 shiny Floatzels so far and its taken forever. Its been like a week, well ive done about an hour a day. Some of you guys make it look like its quick. Well heres hoping for a good adamant Floatzel. I'll post the results as soon as im done, that could be a while though at the rate im going. Also hopefully no more of these dreams I pretty much dream in pokeradar music.

I probably should, lol. And to make it worse, one had 27/24/15/30/15/31 HP Grass 68.

Let's see if I can try my luck at some Dunsparces.
