Woohoo! My first caught shiny! I'm so happy! The bad news is I forgot to put my Synchroniser in front before facing the shiny Aron. Still, I'm going to use it in contest so I don't think it matters that much.

EDIT: Really bad news...when I was typing this I haven't actually caught this thing yet. So I got back to the battle, switched to my Parasect to spore it, and...it used Roar! WTF?! I never knew it could use Roar!

pretty sure a how-to was described somewhere in the guide itself, but yes you can.

the swarm changes when the clock rolls over from 2359 to 0000. save in front of lucas/dawn's little sister, change the clock, get in before it hits midnight, and then find out what the swarm is. if you don't like it, save anyway, then change the clock again.

Got this while failing about 20 times at chaining. Not exactly good but it serves at hope for my future chaining career. The chain keeps breaking at around 17-20ish and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. :(
 
Tytus - I'd start with something easier than Beldum, the sandstorm is very difficult (although Beldum is probably the easiest pokemon there). I don't think the Magnet Pull thing works, but I'm not entirely sure. I need to figure that out, lol, I suck.

Sword Bearer - OMG, that pains me just to think about. That's why you gotta scout your pokemon on Serebii first. Jesus, I feel for you.

Ghandi - I'll edit the original post to include that.

Forbidden - Nice!! Much better than I've done with your stupid Hoppips. Make sure you're following the grid. Next time your chain breaks and you can't figure out why, feel free to post the formation you broke it on,and I'll tell you what's wrong with it. Good luck. Let's see if I can't defeat those Hoppips today.
 
hmm... i'm noticing on the pokétch app, when you step into a patch that breaks your chain, the little icon disappears a split second before battle starts. it's not really helpful, but it means i don't waste time witing for the poké to appear before resetting the game anymore, i guess... ? [money isn't a problem by any means, but i hate going back to town for repels~]

i'm not sure if it does the same for patches that break your chain because the next patches all land outside, but that's not something i really want to waste my chains finding out!

restarting diamond now though, maybe this weekend i'll get back to catching shinies? was doing porygon the other day but it was a failure, trophy garden + lack of focus = no chains over 15, gg.

i personally do not count anything that is on the x or y axis as my buddy.

if it's on the axis, i still reset. that is your problem in this case so far as i can tell. i also pass on it if the buddy is my "one away"
 
IC, I've started avoiding patterns with any patch on the x or y axis, is this for the 4 only or any patch? Guess it will be a long night...
 
i dont count it for any patch. ah, corner patches are no good? i suppose i overlooked that. maybe i've just been lucky (though there were two today broken by shinx that i just dont know why)

my chain is up to 21 lol how many starly do you think is sufficient?

Diesel, thanks for the compliments, I caught 19 total, a shiny patch broke my chain because it was on an edge :( or I could've gone for more. It was a chaining project I accepted for Ghandi, but surprisingly he hasn't PM'd me back about anything.

probably going for a screech / u-turn / cross poison / confuse ray/wing attack set or something like that, since a lot of crobat's viable movepool is egg moves :-\ but at least i have a pink one now :)

The sixth Zubat looks pretty good to me.

Anyway, I'm going to chain for Aron again, currently at 6 chains so far. I'm fully prepared this time. I brought my Magnimite to track those steel babies down at first, trained an Exploud to block Roar and bred an Impish Synchroniser (I'm going to use the Aggron for contests).

EDIT: Just to post the result, I could never manage to get to 40 this time, so no shinies. I'll try again tomorrow though.
