Magic: The Gathering

I have finally gotten into Cockatrice.
I made this awesome deck that I don't want to reveal. (Hint: It's Awesome.)
Ima look around some more. If you wanna play me, my Username's Dragonpolabear :)

yesterday i went to a draft tournament, it was my first time playing magic ever

i ended up drafting avacyn and won the tournament. is it always this one sided lol

No, even in draft usually the most skilled player wins, but there is always an element of chance in Magic. That being said, the current draft format is pretty bad and lacks a lot of ways to remove bombs (extremely powerful cards like your Avacyn), so it allows experiences like yours to happen more frequently than they normally would.

Is the new iPad app any good for getting a start in Magic? Was bored and thought of downloading it since the Pokemon TCG is in hibernate mode for me since I can't attend Nats or Worlds.

Yeah, it can teach you the basics and help you learn the game, but the biggest weakness with it is that the deckbuilding options are quite limited compared to normal magic.

M13 Pre-Release was this weekend, and with M13 coming out, I'd thought I'd share some cards that I think will some some effect in the meta and are just awesome overall...

Naya aggro and friends would be stupid to leave this guy out... for 3 mana, you get creature buffing, evasion granting, and a massive kitty cat parade if he gets left alone... flying and double strike man... flying and double strike.
Image.ashx

Considering how great Restoration Angel has been, this guy should show up in all sorts of decks... perhaps a WG flicker could turn up. There's always Birthing Pod as well.
Image.ashx

Another Naya candidate... all those exalteds.
Image.ashx

Call me crazy, but I think this guy might work. Control has options such as Bonfire and BSZ to constantly clear the board and Gilded Lotus and Sphere of the Suns to ramp this sucker out. If he does hit the field, it's basically gg.
Speaking of Gilded Lotus:

There are a lot more like Rancor, Vampire Nighthawk, Shimian Specter, and Thundermaw Hellkite as well... M13 looks to be an awesome set.

thragtusk, thundermaw, rancor, sublime archangel, nighthawk, ajani, arbor elf, augur of bolas, duress, flames of the firebrand, magmaquake, murder, mutilate, rewind, sign in blood, talrand, tormod's crypt, vile rebirth, and yeva will probably all see play in standard i think. there are a few others that might see play but i'm not sure (like wild guess, disciple of bolas). and master of the pearl trident is going to be getting legacy play and all that.

It'll be fun to see how much use Krenko gets.

krenko has almost zero support atm, and rdw has far better options at the 4 slot (although he could be there as a singleton since he helps a lot if you're flooding) but i still think i'd probably rather just have 4 hellrider / 1-2 instigator gang. arms dealer + krenko is pretty cool but i doubt goblins will be a thing for a while (since rdw looks terrible as is).

Krenko's gonna love Modern and Legacy. Tribal Decks already have way too much shit sitting at three, so the 4 mana for him is almost a blessing (with his comparative strength increase for one more mana.) Pop down Goblin Chieftain turn three and Krenko turn four and you're pretty much golden.

P.S. Warren instigator sure is fun to get either into play. :)

Yep... Krenko will love formats with more Goblins.

Speaking of Tier 1 formats, after trying Grixis Control and Naya and getting sick of mana inconsistency, I settled down with my own Mono Green build.

Rancor makes Dungrove decks insane(:
EDIT: Agreed about Warren Instigator.

Well, the Event Deck Decklists are up (am I the only one who waits for these?). Repeat Performance looks pretty good, and after testing it on Cockatrice, I've found it plays quite well. The other one though... I can't say too much.

Populate looks cool. Could be fun... township tokens.

I'm not the biggest commander nut, but I see this guy going places. Mortivore and friends would love to be sacked. I see some potential on Standard if the meta allows him to sac a bunch of Zombies.

Since the ComicCon has gone unmentioned, perhaps this will help those who have not seen it.

I've been playing this for the past week. I've gone X-2-1 across two casual tournaments and a Game Day, losing only to UR Delver and UBw Superfriends, and ID'ing to get into Top 8 of Game Day. Pulled off two T2 kills, usually game is over T5.

Any thoughts?

Personally, I think this is very overpriced, as I would gladly pay $45 for the singles and the dice if they are awesome enough, but it looks like we get to pay another $30 for a bunch of crap. Clearly, I'm not the target audience, but I think that audience is too narrow for a successful product. I could be surprised, but I'm saying no on this one so far.

-Riku, Ghave, Command Tower, Kallia, and Goat Man are going to be among the singles.

My source is this page.

'Tis a shame, this had the potential to be awesome...

EDIT:
Here he is:

Thoughts?
My thoughts:
my thought is a thought. In all actuality, Jarad's use in standard all depends on whether or not come October he gets enough fuel. While Innistrad had some graveyard cards, they weren't and aren't good enough to run a Standard archetype, even with Jarad. So yeah, what will October bring?

On another note...Hey guys I have recently been racing to try Commander out! Yet the most obvious entry to play, the Preconstructs, have been jacked in price. (Nice try, I don't want to play commander bad enough to buy goat man's deck) I don't think it is, but is Political Puppets that good in commander? But anyway, my budget falls around 45 bucks. What should I do?

Throw something together on Cockatrice or another free simulator and play some games there. In paper you could just plunk a few down on some staples (Sol Ring, Command Tower) and build something out of your collection.

Failing that, next summer new Commander precons are released. Politically Puppets is probably the worst one unless you change your general, however.

Innistrad has some fuel. The main thing I'm looking at is some mix between Self-Mill and Zombies. Mulch and Instincts as well as Splinterfright should get you a nice graveyard, and Jarad can use that to go to work. I can't finalize anything yet, but Golgari is awesome, and I hope the keyword isn't a dissapointment after we were spoiled by Dredge.

You're half-correct about the Innistrad stuff. While it's true that there are "mill-draw" effects such as Mulch, I don't think Jarad's first ability is going to be very particularly relevant. The problem being, you can build up a large creature all you like, but there's still instant removal still in the format (Murder, and lord knows what the Rakdos will bring. Wrecking Ball reprint?) and you're left high and dry. I think his middle ability is going to be much more relevant as an alternate kill-engine. After all, Golgari also revolved around +1/+1 counters as did Simic; meaning there'll probably be ways of making large creatures and shooting your opponent for lots of life.

Failing that, there's Gravecrawler, who already functions in a combo with Grimgrin.

My disappointment, however, is that his last ability is too restrictive. You're down by two lands, AND he only goes to your hand? Sure, you can float the mana to cast him as you sac the tapped lands, and sure you have green ramp so it's not impossible, but you're still down land- Oh. Right.
