Magmortar (OU Attacking Lead)

The fact of the matter is, can this set be very useful in standard play? Depending on the opponent, yes it can.

Should it be used in a competitive match? I don't think so, I believe it to simply be a gimmick to use, it looks like it can be effective, but there's just a handful of COMMON leads that can stop it that I wouldn't wanna risk it vs some leads that you hardly see anymore.

This is not an effective lead in my opinion. It loses to a significant portion of common leads in OU, plus it doesn't stop SR at all (except for Swampert and one-two more Pokemon), which is all very unappealing. What is the point in having an attacking lead when said lead is tremendously slow and doesn't accomplish anything special?

Machamp can't OHKO Swampert leads, unless you get lucky with confusion. Magmortar destroys Swampert leads.
Ok this is the only important lead you can beat that champ doesnt, and champ beats a shiton more

Machamp hates Trick Scarf leads; Magmortar doesn't mind it.
hahaha oh wow
the two most common trickscarf leads are jirachi and azelf who get raped up the bum by dpunch and payback. Although uxie will beat him, all magmortar can do is overheat and do shit damage to it and becomes set up fodder

Magmortar OHKO's lead Jirachi, to my knowledge Machamp can't do that.
dpunch while it cant do shit to you, and again magmortar will be locked into -2 scarf overheat which is begging to be set up upon

Lum Berry Metagross leads always beat Machamp. Magmortar OHKO's Lum Berry Metagross guaranteed.
Sitting at -2 which is shit

Surprise factor. Most leads will switch out expecting a Bullet Punch from Machamp, while Mach Punch from Magmortar is unexpected.
Wouldnt having the set on the site get rid of surprise factor?

In conculsion to beat most leads you have to be a sitting duck at -2 which i definatly dont want, and machamp does the job better then this

Done. :)

I find that leads that have access to EQ and Stone Edge will almost always go for the EQ on Magmortar as its not worth the risk of missing. Most Aerodactyl won't attack anyway though and will set up SR, and some have even taunted by Magmortar lead thinking it was some kind of Substitute/Belly Drum variant. :P
One thing, if you really are blame truth, then i know you primarily play on wifi. What I and some others may like to see is you putting some logs on shoddy of this set's effectiveness. It seems fairly iffy right now.

Heatran seems to do a better job using this set than Magmortar. The only thing it can do better is beat suicidal leads, but you don't stop them from accomplishing their goal of laying Stealth Rock anyway. It can't even beat Aerodactyl because of Stone Edge so there is very little use for Thunderbolt while it's holding Expert Belt. It just doesn't seem like this is a quality lead. At least with Heatran you have something with good defenses and excellent resistances for later on in the game.

magmortar isnt that bad of a pokemon in OU as people make it seem to be but that is beside the point, i would encourage to explore options outside of the lead position for this pokemon. many people in this thread have already outlined why this lead isnt that great and I am going to have to reject this set.
