Masturbation

That's not entirely true. Excessive masturbation can result in the body NEEDING that kind of stimulation to reach orgasm. This can result in difficulty climaxing when another person is responsible for your pleasure.

This isn't a problem with masturbation itself as a whole, but with gripping your penis very hard with a "death grip". Using lighter touches and lubrcation occasionally will prevent this problem.

tldr don't go "fuck if i masturbate i won't be able to have orgasms"

Agreed.
Also, in actual intercourse the element of attraction to, and intimacy with, your partner (combined with foreplay) will usually enhance the level of arousal and sexual stimulation involved and often lead to better orgasms than that achieved by masturbation alone.

Is that necessarily a bad thing. Ask a woman what she prefers - a man who stays hard but doesn't come in sex, or a man who comes in under 2 minutes and then loses his erection.

You all raise good points - I was merely pointing out that, strictly speaking, there can be negative side-effects of masturbation.

And Cantab - while staying hard but not climaxing can occasionally be a good thing from the females point of view, it wouldn't really be that great from the males.

I think what needs to be stressed here is not that masturbation is bad by any means - it's just that doing it EXCESSIVELY (and by that I mean five or more times a day) or, in Chris is me's words 'gripping your penis very hard with a "death grip"' is probably not the best idea.

However I will add that masturbation can help if you suffer from premature ejaculation, to kind of ... calm you down a little bit before the act.

I masturbate on occasion to increase my "endurance" as it were. I don't really mind as I remember that sex is not just about fullfilling my needs but my partner as well

You would come eventually, and the sex will last longer. Which is good for both parties.

The first time my last boyfriend and I had sex, he came within like, 30 seconds?? Yeah, it was CUTE to me, although I wanted it to last longer, but in later days, it did!

I think for a lot of guys it's not even so much that you're more immune to the sensation and unable to come until later, but that you just learn to better control it and hold out etc? I mean, obviously as a girl I can't speak very much on this topic at all, but that's just the experience I've had with past boyfriends. Also, as far as the guy staying hard but not being able to come, that makes the girl feel like shit too since it's like she can't be pleasing enough to make it happen or something! That happened a lot with my second to last boyfriend, and sex became a chore, p awful.

Tubaking makes a great point about arousal as well, it's a lot more intense and awesome when you're having sexual relations with someone you like-->LOVE and have a deep emotional connection with as well. :)

Nah, using a death grip is a bad way to facilitate orgasm control, because then you'd need to pull out in order to orgasm eventually. It's much better to develop this over time or with a partner.

I was reading up on some of the health benefits of masturbation in a medical magazine thing, and there are no negative effects of it. I'm sure you all know that, but here is where I raise a question:

Why is masturbation such a taboo? Nobody wants anyone to know they do it, and they try to steer conversation away from it. If a parent brings it up, it is really awkward. Why? There are health benefits to it ( men and women (ctrl +f health benefits) ). I'm not saying to "share your favorite techniques" or anything gross (heh look at me i'm such a hypocrite), but just discuss on why it is looked down upon in society.

My parents weren't particularly religious, but that was a pretty taboo topic. My mother and father wouldn't even have the "Birds&the Bee's talk with me". When I asked my mother why, she said I already know! (And I pretty much did).

The taboo, definitely could have some strong grounds in religion and other conservative type values. And to be honest, and this may be a product of how I was raised... I'd rather not know what people do to "please themselves". I don't have anything against it, I'd just rather not know.

Yeah. The high school I graduated from is in a very conservative part of the Bible Belt (something like 90% of the city is Catholic) and I (being rather liberal) was surprised to find how weirded out the majority of my peers would get in situations involving sexual discussions, especially about masturbation.
Growing up in the 90s, most of what I learned about sex was from television and the internet, so when my mother wanted to talk to me about "the birds and the bees", I already knew everything there was to know.

This is by no means strictly limited to conservative high schools.

You're right, but I spent my first two years of high school in more of a socio-politically moderate environment and the severity of the aversion towards sexual discourse was markedly less.
Even something as simple as religious diversity in the community I think lead to a greater general open-mindedness, particularly in regards to sexuality.

^ Just found this interesting and related to the topic... at hand ;)

I think the taboo is mostly religious actually. I know that in medieval times and whatnot, wasting a sperm was considered sinful. I think they said that a sperm is better in a hooker than on the ground. Therefore, you couldn't masturbate.

Unfortunately I have ran into some of these people before, so I know how they are, especially if something like masturbation or sex is brought up

that's not true. for some people it's against their religion to do it.

lol at that. Unless you have health issues, you will do it.
Oh, and women masturbate too you know...

Once I heard a stand-up comedian. In his routine, he pointed out the fact that everybody masturbate. He also said that it allowed to release tention and calm oneself in periods of stress, which is true. He also said that smoking is also done to please oneself carnally and is viewed as acceptable in public.

So nobody as anything at all against pleasing your body in public. So why would we have anything against masturbation?

I think it's because we don't want children to do it. Children, and I'm talking about two year old and up, would probably masturbate all the time if it was seen as acceptable. However, we are not ready to even consider the idea that children ARE sexualised. We don't want to see children smoking, and this is why we forbid them from having access to cigarettes, but we can't stop them from having genitals. This is why smoking is A-ok, and masturbating is a no-no.

Your post doesn't make any sense at all and doesn't even correspond with basic biology.

There are many reasons children don't masturbate. For one, children cannot have orgasms. Secondly, they don't have a sex drive yet. Remember how girls are icky? Yeah. Thirdly, children don't masturbate not because of a lack of knowledge. People of all cultures and societies learn to masturbate without people telling them. It's natural instinct.

So, children don't have sex drives, can't have orgasms, and masturbation is not a taboo to keep it a secret from children because everyone learns about it by themselves anyway. So you're pretty much as wrong as possible here. Generally, public masturbation is taboo because generally people don't want to see others naked, and masturbation in public becomes a performance, with the viewer becoming non consensual participants in the sexual act. I can't believe I actually had to explain that.

Children do masturbate. Even thought they can't have an orgasm, they can still be aroused. And it has nothing to do with the opposite sex or desire and everything to do with their own genitals.

And I don't see why we wouldn't want to see other people naked.

Children don't have to learn how to masturbate, it's quite the opposite : they have to learn to not do it.
When you will have your own boy or girl, you will find that you will spend quite some time telling him/her NOT to play with him/herself.

Um... You honestly see no problem with seeing any human in the country masturbating?

I'll admit the children don't masturbate thing isn't strictly true. Children don't have orgasms is more true. But regardless, what stops children is not because no one told them about it, or that they feel guilty, or anything like that, thus my point still stands.

In respons to the "needing hand stimulation to shoot" thing, don't touch it for a week and try again. I used to bate once or more a day and had trouble with getting off through intercourse until laying off the wanking for a few days.

Masturbation has a lot to do with endurance. Your arousal will become more intense as days go by without it. But this can vary with how sensitive you are, cut/uncut, etc

I first masturbated when I was seven. I had an organsm, just that no cum came out -.-. It felt so good that I wanted to keep on doing it. Only when I hit like 6th grade did cum shoot and I was shocked what the white thing was.. LOL. I had a sex drive since I was three. I remember watching porn on Spice channel 27, 28, or 29 (I forgot) on my cable scrambler and trying to touch nipples on the TV screen and wishing the TV was real. False information you got there :(. Yea sure, in elementary school we played games like girls got kyooties w/e, but as a kid, I just wanted to have fun and just played along that girls were icky. True tho, some kids don't masturbate because they lack the knowledge.

Maybe I'm just a freak then. :P

Regardless, it's generally accepted that one doesn't need to be told how to masturbate in order to do it. It's not a knowledge thing. Otherwise, how would animals, people with religious parents, etc. do it? It's generally accepted that masturbation is somewhat instinctual.
