Are you tired of Keldeo Hydro Pumping you to oblivion? Chansey soaking up your attacks? Pheromosa outspeeding your team? Did you wish stats were a bit lower?

Well in MediocreMons, its that and soo much more!

banner by Centinela
Co led by Uselesscrab and I

MediocreMons is a metagame with a simple premise: only Pokémon with all stats below 100 are allowed. This means 97 base speed is almost untouchable, 90 base defenses are wallworthy and 95 base offenses are nukes! PU mons like Raticate and Pikachu have a time in the spotlight while OU staples like Clefable and Kingdra run the meta. New gifts like Oricoro and Mareanie are set to make a name for themselves. Lastly, oldies that weren't as viable before get a new lease on life with the buffs they received this generation, such as Bibarel, Farfetch'd and Lunatone.

Rules
Mechanics:
Only Pokemon with stats below 100 are allowed
Clauses: OU Clauses
Bans: Silvally, Type: Null, Huge Power/Pure Power
Unbans: None yet

Strategy

In a metagame where most of the viable Pokemon are all in a stat range of 80-95, speed control is EXTREMELY important for offensive and balanced teams alike. Choice Scarves and Paralysis induction are common ways of speed control. Sticky Web is also a niche option, basically guarenteeing that the opposing team is slower, but is only available on rather subpar mons like Surskit and Swadloon. Knock Off is also rather important, as many Pokemon rely on items to function in MediocreMons.

Bans History

While Arceus isn't the best in Ubers, the false god Silvally is certainly a god in MediocreMons. With the ability to be any of the 18 types it wants, plus a movepool great enough to target the limited mons in the metagame, all backed by perfect 95 across the board stats, its no question Silvally is uncounterable.
Ban date: 24/04/17

Like its evolution, Type: Null has excellent stats, barring speed. But its bulk in combination with Eviolite makes it unbreakable

252 Atk Light Ball Pikachu Volt Tackle vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Type: Null: 114-135 (28.9 - 34.2%) -- 2.8% chance to 3HKO

252 Atk Choice Band Basculin Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Type: Null: 154-182 (39 - 46.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

+1 252 SpA Venomoth Savage Spin-Out (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Type: Null: 232-274 (58.8 - 69.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Being able to stomach such powerful attacks and hit back hard with 95 base attack just shouldnt be running around. Ban Date: 24/04/17

Thanks to having no viable switchins thanks to Sheer Force boosted attacks and great bulk and defensive typing, Nodiqueen was able to fantastically perform any role it needed, be it hazard setter, wallbreaker or defensive tank. Its power and bulk combined with its vast utility made it too much for the metagame to handle.

Being a great choice for OU already, its not hard to see why Kingdra is busted. Having only true "counter" in Ferroseed (which is easily worn down + HP Fire sets exist) and having a multitude of viable sets in DDance, Sniper+Agility, Agility + 3 Attacks, Mixed SwiftSwim, Swiftswim sweeper and even more makes Kingdra even more uncontrollable. Its fantastic defensive typing and bulk also guareentees it survives any priority attack and can even stomach some neutral attacks, making revengekilling a tedious process. Overall, Kingdra is the Mega Ray of Mediocremons and has been banned as a result.

Diggersby @ Leftovers
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Hammer Arm
- Quick Attack

Highest attack stat it the metagame...?

Basically just standard Diggy

Klefki @ Light Clay
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Foul Play / Play Rough
- Light Screen
- Reflect
- Spikes / Thunder Wave / Toxic

Klefki has respectable bulk in this meta, being a good screen setter for the team and having a pretty nice defensive typing, weak only to Ground and Fire.

Seems like a fun idea for a metagame; eventually I might post a list of all the viable Pokémon that can be used.

Dunfan

formerly Dunsparce Fanboy
Just posting that set :

Nidoqueen @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 180 HP / 252 SpA / 76 Spe
Modest Nature
- Earth Power
- Ice Beam
- Stealth Rock
- Sludge Wave

Nidoqueen is fantastic in this meta.
A great hazard setter than can check Clefable and have the nice Earth Power + Ice Beam coverage.

Diggersby @ Leftovers
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake

Highest attack stat it the metagame...?
Not quite:

Medicham @ Life Orb
Ability: Pure Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Fire Punch
- High Jump Kick
- Zen Headbutt

Slightly faster and slightly stronger than Diggersby, by without access to Swords Dance or STAB priority.

And here's the highest special attack in the meta:

Pikachu @ Light Ball
Ability: Static
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Surf
- Nasty Plot
- Volt Switch

And the bulkiest mon in the meta (both physically and specially):

Lickitung @ Eviolite
Ability: Oblivious
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD or 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Bold/Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Wish

- Toxic

And highest BST in the meta, by far:

Kingdra @ Scope Lens
Ability: Sniper
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Focus Energy
- Draco Meteor
- Hydro Pump
- Agility

Sticky Web is also a niche option, basically guarenteeing that the opposing team is slower, but is only available on rather subpar mons like Surskit and Swadloon.
You seem to be forgetting the obvious choice:

Smeargle @ Focus Sash
Ability: Own Tempo
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Spore
- Sticky Web
- Stealth Rock
- Knock Off

This is probably banworthy, as with speed control in T-Wave, Sticky Webs, etc, Extreme Evoboost can make anything it wants into a sweeping monster. No thanks. Also, Huge Power seems like a bad idea to keep around with most things just having 95 Defense at most. G-Luke

Wow. I completely missed Huge Power, as it was banned last gen but it completely slipped my mind. I'd wait before jumping on the banwagon for anything else though, I'd rather wait for the metagame to settle and stabilize first

uh, does this include mega evos? cos if it doesn't, beedrill, glalie and mawile just annihilate everyone
anyway, basculin is going to be a big threat due to being tied with Swanna for the fastest allowed pokemon while also hitting really hard with help from its abilities.
Basculin-Blue-Striped @ Life Orb
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Waterfall
- Head Smash
- Double-Edge/Zen Headbutt
- Crunch/Taunt/Final Gambit
just some example set for it. Waterfall for a STAB with a flinch chance, really useful for such a fast mon. Rock Head Head Smash is a great coverage move, hits harder than Waterfall actually but has meh accuracy. Double Edge is a powerful move with no drawbacks but Zen Headbutt can flinch and can actually hit things super effectively. Crunch is another coverage move, fairly powerful, not much to say about it. fastest unboosted taunt in the meta is obviously good for, uh, taunting things, while Final Gambit lets it sacrifice itself when faced with an opponent it can't beat easily and gain momentum.

Meanwhile, Swanna is probably going to be a really neat defogger.
Swanna @ Life Orb
Ability: Hydration
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Defog
- Hurricane
- Scald
- Roost
This set is copied from the XY analysis for Swanna and I don't think it needs changing. Defog, a powerful STAB combo with neat side effects and reliable recovery. What more do you really need?

Time for a ton of quick mentions:
Frogadier will be one amazing sweeper with Protean and a great 97 base speed. Togedemaru is actually a neat little offensive pokemon with a good defensive typing, ability in Sturdy/Iron Barbs and nice utility in Wish, Encore, Fake Out, Spiky Shield and Spikes. Grovyle and Yanma are both nice special attackers, with Yanma having great abilities and Grovyle having an awesome Leaf Storm. Chatot's Boomburst is one of the hardest hitting things in this. Parasect has a great attacking stat and Spore along with respectable bulk. Poliwrath has great bulk and great Attack as well as synergizing fairly well with Kingdra thanks to both benefiting from Rain.

Water types in general seem to be really great so long as they watch out for Pikachu.

Only mons with stats below 100 are allowed, and since there are no megas with that......

What's the verdict on Wishiwashi? it has low stats in its base form but automatically transforms into a form that breaks base 100 in four stats.

The biggest new threats this gen seem to be Oricorio, Togedemaru, and Alolan Raticate. Oricorio is quite versatile and fast, Togedemaru looks like it could have niche use thanks to its good Speed and Attack by this metagame's standards, and Alolan Raticate has the strongest Sucker Punch, although it has to compete with Mightyena and Murkrow I guess.

Diglett @ Choice Band
Ability: Arena Trap
Happiness: 0
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Memento
- Frustration????

Diglett can trap things like Nidoqueen and a non-set up Venomoth and OHKO them after stealth rock (and a bit of chip damage if they run bulk)
252 Atk Choice Band Diglett Rock Slide vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Venomoth: 216-256 (76.8 - 91.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Choice Band Diglett Rock Slide vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Venomoth: 142-168 (41.2 - 48.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery
252 Atk Choice Band Diglett Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Nidoqueen: 320-380 (99.6 - 118.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Other things it can trap are Togedemaru (lacking U-Turn or locked into something else), Pikachu... basically a bunch of the powerful Poison and Electric types in the meta.

This mon really needs Stealth Rock to get the KOs it wants, and as it's bulk is actually paper pivoting to get it in safely on the mons its supposed to trap would be nice as well. This was originally planned as a partner for Belly Drum Slurpluff, to remove Poison types and Fire types.

Other options are Life Orb, which lets it use Sucker Punch but makes it miss some important kos, and possibly sash, to let it hit twice if it misses the ko.

Diglett is best played later in the game when the things it means to trap have taken some chip damage, so that it isn't thrown for a loop by surprise bulk (Venomoth especially probably runs bulk).

Some threats I can think of:
-Slurpuff sounds like a great sweeper with Belly Drum and Unburden, as well as acceptable 82/86/75 defenses and a Fairy typing, although it is walled by Unaware Quagsire and Clefable.
-Bibarel now has Swords Dance and can potentially sweep with Frustration and Aqua Jet, but is also walled by Unaware.
-Abomasnow can serve as a check to Quagsire and also is a good mixed attacker with good STAB and coverage.
-Smeargle now can shine as many fast sweepers are removed from the meta.
-Servine has good bulk with Eviolite and Contrary with Leaf Storm, but also beats Quagsire unlike Malamar.
-Xatu has decent bulk and Magic Bounce to block leads.
-Ferroseed is fantastic with only two weakness and pairs great with Quagsire and Clefable for a nice stall core.

Sticky Web is also a niche option, basically guarenteeing that the opposing team is slower, but is only available on rather subpar mons like Surskit and Swadloon.
It's been mentioned before that Smeargle is the obvious choice for Sticky Webs, as it is used for such a strategy in OU, but another that you missed is Ariados, which in this meta might actually be able to establish itself a strong niche.

Ariados was one of the many pokemon to get small buffs and adjustments this generation, and however it didn't gain a whole lot, I'm sure that an extra 10 SpD won't go astray in a meta like this. Plus, Toxic Thread is actually a pretty solid move, particularly in a meta where speed control is more important. What's new aside, Ariados actually has a pretty solid stat spread here with a nice 90 Atk stat and passable 70/70/70 defences. Combine that with it's niche ability in Insomnia allowing it to lead better against Smeargle as well as counter Parasect, and its pretty cool movepool with tools like Sticky Web, Toxic Thread, Megahorn, Sucker Punch, Poison Jab, Leech Life, Baton Pass, Toxic Spikes and Encore, I'm sure you can conjure up an effective set. So for some teams Ariados may very well be a more effective Web setter than Smeargle.

Webs will obviously be pretty strong in this meta I reckon because when you can only have so much speed to begin with, having it cut in half is pretty nasty. But another thing making Webs strong in theory is that it's easier to build around, not only with Smeargle being a better setter here than OU, and Ariados being an option, there's also far more Spin Blockers and Defog deterrents.

Lampent strikes me as a Ghost that would greatly appreciate the Webs support while obviously being a spin blocker, but even Sensu Oricorio and Rotom are great ghosts in and of themselves (plus they're both conveniently immune to opposing Webs). There are way more viable Ghost types that can act as Spin Blockers for Webs or Hazard Stack teams, as opposed to just Gengar and Mega Sab.

Then you've got Defiant users like the newly buffed Farfetch'd, boasting 90 base Atk and the Crit Stick. And of course Pawniard who is great both with and against Sticky Web. Then you've also got Competitive Gothorita perhaps, as well as the handful of Contrary users who can be very annoying to Defog against.

So yeah, I wouldn't undersell Webs in the OP until it's been tested more because it actually does have good setters, and seems to me it could have great potential.

EDIT: Also probably less viable because it's so passive and has two 4x weaknesses, but Swadloon too has Sticky Webs with Synthesis + Baton Pass, and 55/90/80 bulk + Eviolite.

I just want to take the time to hype up an PU classic: chatot.

You know how swellow spams specs boomburst and hurts decently even tho it only has 75 spatk? Chatot actually hits harder than that (tho it's coverage is even worse since no scrappy). You are going to want a normal resist/immune or soundproof mon, just like gen 6 PU offense.

It's best sets are probably going to be choiced, since it's coverage is generally not something you want to use, and it's probably still way too frail to try running np sets.

Scarf chatot outspeeds almost everything decent in the meta, and specs chatot breaks almost everything in the meta.

To give an example of specs chatot's power:
252+ SpA Choice Specs Chatot Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Lickitung: 171-202 (44.5 - 52.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock.
This is the fattest special wall the tier has to offer, so you are going to force bulkier teams to switch into a resist of some kind which is always a fun exploitable turn.

Specs chatot is wallable, but you need a normal resist that doesn't get beaten by heatwave, and that it probably won't target with 4x hidden power.

Scarf chatot is weaker, but it's still probably going to be a pain for offense, because it can still do stuff like this
252 SpA Chatot Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Clefable: 198-234 (50.2 - 59.3%) -- 79.3% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery (no clue what evs clef will actually run, but imo this gives a good sense of the power level). If you have a chipped offensive mon, scarf chatot is probably going to be able to revenge it.

Set is basically
Chatot @ Choice Scarf/Specs
Ability: Keen Eye
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid/Modest Nature
- Boomburst
- Heat Wave
- U-turn
- Hidden Power [Grass/Steel]/Ominous Wind/Night Shade

Boomburst is what you want to click basically whenever possible. Heatwave is your best general coverage move (hits steels, strongest non hidden power/ominous wind move to hit ghosts). U-turn lets you get momentum from things that think they can switch in.

Last slot is basically whatever coverage you think will help you get past ghosts/rocks (weirdly most of the meta's remotely decent looking rocks are not weak to ground or fighting, but almost all of them are weak to grass). Ominous wind is chatot's best way to hit ghosts and hits all the rocks for neutral, and night shade does like 1/3 of almost anything's HP. All it's abilities are nigh useless, so pick whichever looks marginally least awful.

Pair with whatever has a decent pursuit here for extra fun.

This thing actually has a pretty decent utility movepool (taunt, encore, etc), and a few ways to try to hax the opponent into giving you a set-up turn (sing, chatter), but I really doubt it's ever going to get a chance to really abuse them.

EDIT: In relation to sticky webs, I'd be likely to use Misdreavus as a spinblocker over a decent number of those ghosts, bar rotom. You lack dual stab but have better coverage than most of them, and have at least decent basically everything statwise.

But really almost all of the spinners available look pretty garbage. The only one I'd call bulky is wartortle, and the only ones with some level of offensive presence are like staryu and anorith. I'd predict hazard removal would more involve the handful of decent defoggers (e.g. golbat, lumineon, prinplup, swanna, vibrava, vullaby), and hazard prevention in the form of xatu (which beats all the webs leads bar like skill swap smeargle).

Yeah, I was building a couple of stall teams (Shedinja is legal and you have a Bouncer in Xatu and a trapper in Diglett), but it's pretty much destroyed by variants of Chatot - Chatter haxes through Unaware (and specs simply 2HKOs), and any neutral mons are 2HKOd after a Nasty Plot. You need something like specially defensive Rotom (it needs investment to not die to Heat Wave!), or a fat Rock type, which basically means Lunatone or Corsola.

+2 252 SpA Chatot Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Lickitung: 208-246 (54.1 - 64%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Chatot Boomburst vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Unaware Clefable: 208-246 (52.7 - 62.4%) -- 99.6% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Chatot Heat Wave vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Ferroseed: 260-308 (89 - 105.4%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Chatot Heat Wave vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Rotom: 153-180 (50.3 - 59.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Chatot Heat Wave vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Klefki: 192-228 (60.5 - 71.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

tldr Chatot is cool this meta is cool ban Kingdra

I mean you could go full pu and just actually run a rock type. Also in practice it has a p crappy mu versus any team with anything immune to boomburst (e.g. abomasnow is an actual offensive check). If you want bulky checks imo consider, rocks without quad weaknesses (mainly lileep, lunatone, since solrock gets 2hkoed by specs boomburst without full special investment), heatproof bronzor, or basically any ghost to at least deter boomburst (if it's a fat team probably missy for extra fatness). If it's actually choiced then in practice bulky teams shouldn't have a problem, tho if it isn't choiced and manages to get an np off you're going to have fun. Also chatter is p awful coverage (actually hits grasses/bugs weaker than heat wave, and the hax factor is actually lower than last gen thanks to confuse nerf, but if sub/np/chatter/boomburst manages to fish a free turn, your opponent is gong to have a bad time.

Really just remember to bring a normal resist/immunity, to deter scarf/specs boomburst. Whatever move chatot clicks is going to be exploitable provided you can keep your designated boomburst exploiter healthy.

Other things that might be vaguely fun from pu:

Swanna and Basculin. These are the fastest legal mons in the meta (all the base 99's have at least one stat over 100), which gives them some nice inherent uses.

Swanna has very solid dual stab coverage, and can actually fit roost+defog on a set without being overly passive, if you want nice offensive hazard removal/reallyfastmon. Could also run rain dance on it for your rain team needs, since swanna both individually benefits (hydration + hurricane stops MISSING + water stab is stronger) and can really do whatever it wants with its slots after dual stab.

Basculin has way less utility, but it's basically impossible to outspeed bar scarvers, has priority, and has adaptability aqua tail. Could run scarf final gambit if you want to use terrible gimmicks.

Oh and I believe that the classic NU core of speed boost baton pass combusken + calm mind stored power xatu is legal, so I'm sure that will be fun to deal with in a ladder metagame.

I think this will be a great set
