Lately, I got lots of people at school into pokemon showdown. Some of us are quite competitive, aware of the meta, etc... While some others can scrap together great pokemon yet lack synergy, which my team probably does too.
Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 144 HP / 252 Atk / 112 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Dragon Claw
- Roost
The bulky Charizard set. I like this one over the offesnive one, because I use this early game alot, as opposed to a late game cleaner. This is really due to the lack of long lasting pokemon I have, like Thundurus, Lucario, and Bisharp. I set up with dragon dance first (Duh) and most of the time I'm able to get 2. Roost will bring my HP back up a lot, after inital damage from the dragon dances. The +2 if I get it also wrecks most pokemon that don't resist my STABs.
Latias (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Roost
- Defog
My defogger. Zard needs the Stealth Rocks gone to avoid that 50% drop, so I chose Latias, an offensive threat too. I thought of Swords Dance Scizor, which could replace Lucario as fairy check, but decided against that, because Latias is really good on the special stat spectrum. This is another attacker and destroys dragon types early, before Zard sweeps.
Thundurus (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 28 HP / 228 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Thunder Wave
- Nasty Plot
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Thundurus is really just a switch in to prevent flying spam and other things. It can counter water types although its pretty frail. This is the standard spread, and I twave a lot for things that threaten Mega Zard's sweep. Thunderbolt is pretty good when I can get that +2 boost, and still good in general. Hidden Power Ice is just a way to deal with Garchomp, Aerodactyl, etc...
Lucario @ Focus Sash
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- ExtremeSpeed
- Close Combat
This is my steel resist pokemon, and also helps to destroy heatran, which Mega Zard X hates. Because of sash I can set up and get +2 if my opponent lacks priority. This is also my counter to fairy types, especially Mega Gardevoir. Close Combat is best STAB, and extreme speed is duh. I went with Bullet Punch instead of Iron Tail because I don't trust the accuracy. Also, when I switch in on gardevoir, it switches out quite often, so I get +2. If Gardevoir goes for Hyper Voice, which doesn't OHKO due to sash, I can OHKO with bullet punch.
Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Force
EVs: 240 HP / 192 Def / 76 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Slack Off
- Stone Edge
Hippowdown is a way to get rid of Tyranitar and a Stealth Rock setter, which Mega Zard likes. Rocks are set up easily, although defog gets rid of mine too. Slack Off is means of recovery. QuakeEdge is good coverage for a pokemon not designed to be an offensive threat. It doesn't OHKO ttar, but its still pretty good.
Bisharp @ Black Glasses
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Swords Dance
- Iron Head
Bisharp is a great pokemon that I like. It also helps to check Mega Gardevoir, which I hate. I try to get +2, but its way harder than doing it with Lucario. Sucker Punch is priority, and Knock Off is a great move to spam as it gets the buff and screws eviolite from Chansey or Dusclops. Iron Head, as previously mentioned is for Gardevoir, and fairies in general.
I'd appreciate alternatives to the pokemon on my team, as I struggled too choose good fits for it. I've also play tested on showdown, it did good, although due to my lower rating from screwing around on OU, I found lots of gimmicky teams that didn't let me experiene that good of battles. Many struggled to deal with Zard as I got +2 Atk and swept with Dragon Claw or Flare Blitz
