XY OU Mega Charizard X

leremyju

Banned deucer.
Lately, I got lots of people at school into pokemon showdown. Some of us are quite competitive, aware of the meta, etc... While some others can scrap together great pokemon yet lack synergy, which my team probably does too.

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 144 HP / 252 Atk / 112 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Dragon Claw
- Roost

The bulky Charizard set. I like this one over the offesnive one, because I use this early game alot, as opposed to a late game cleaner. This is really due to the lack of long lasting pokemon I have, like Thundurus, Lucario, and Bisharp. I set up with dragon dance first (Duh) and most of the time I'm able to get 2. Roost will bring my HP back up a lot, after inital damage from the dragon dances. The +2 if I get it also wrecks most pokemon that don't resist my STABs.

Latias (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Roost
- Defog

My defogger. Zard needs the Stealth Rocks gone to avoid that 50% drop, so I chose Latias, an offensive threat too. I thought of Swords Dance Scizor, which could replace Lucario as fairy check, but decided against that, because Latias is really good on the special stat spectrum. This is another attacker and destroys dragon types early, before Zard sweeps.

Thundurus (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 28 HP / 228 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Thunder Wave
- Nasty Plot
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Thundurus is really just a switch in to prevent flying spam and other things. It can counter water types although its pretty frail. This is the standard spread, and I twave a lot for things that threaten Mega Zard's sweep. Thunderbolt is pretty good when I can get that +2 boost, and still good in general. Hidden Power Ice is just a way to deal with Garchomp, Aerodactyl, etc...

Lucario @ Focus Sash
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- ExtremeSpeed
- Close Combat

This is my steel resist pokemon, and also helps to destroy heatran, which Mega Zard X hates. Because of sash I can set up and get +2 if my opponent lacks priority. This is also my counter to fairy types, especially Mega Gardevoir. Close Combat is best STAB, and extreme speed is duh. I went with Bullet Punch instead of Iron Tail because I don't trust the accuracy. Also, when I switch in on gardevoir, it switches out quite often, so I get +2. If Gardevoir goes for Hyper Voice, which doesn't OHKO due to sash, I can OHKO with bullet punch.

Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Force
EVs: 240 HP / 192 Def / 76 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Slack Off
- Stone Edge

Hippowdown is a way to get rid of Tyranitar and a Stealth Rock setter, which Mega Zard likes. Rocks are set up easily, although defog gets rid of mine too. Slack Off is means of recovery. QuakeEdge is good coverage for a pokemon not designed to be an offensive threat. It doesn't OHKO ttar, but its still pretty good.

Bisharp @ Black Glasses
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Swords Dance
- Iron Head

Bisharp is a great pokemon that I like. It also helps to check Mega Gardevoir, which I hate. I try to get +2, but its way harder than doing it with Lucario. Sucker Punch is priority, and Knock Off is a great move to spam as it gets the buff and screws eviolite from Chansey or Dusclops. Iron Head, as previously mentioned is for Gardevoir, and fairies in general.

I'd appreciate alternatives to the pokemon on my team, as I struggled too choose good fits for it. I've also play tested on showdown, it did good, although due to my lower rating from screwing around on OU, I found lots of gimmicky teams that didn't let me experiene that good of battles. Many struggled to deal with Zard as I got +2 Atk and swept with Dragon Claw or Flare Blitz

I see potential in this team, but I feel that there needs to be some changes. I recommend running sash on Bisharp over Black Glasses to get a Swords Dance off so you can sucker punch away. I would run a more of a mixed attack/support Thundurus with Twave, Nasty Plot, Taunt, and Tbolt. That will stop threats like Gliscor from crippling your Charizard X. I think you should drop Latias for Scizor (defog set), to get rid of your rocks weakness even more. and Stone Edge could be replaced with Rock Slide to stop threats such as Talonflame, and set up sweepers such as Nasty Plot Togekiss, which is still commonly used in OU even after its drop to UU.

I don't think Lucario fits your team very well. You claim that it beats Heatran, but in reality, your only switch-in to Heatran is Latias which can't even damage it, while it can just sit around and Toxic stall or fish for a burn. Lucario can't truly switch in because you cannot guarantee hazards will not be on your side of the field, you risk getting burnt by Lava Plume, and the Heatran user can just switch out of the obvious Close Combat. It also just seems a bit out of place on your team, as Bisharp seems to accomplish a similar goal. Perhaps you should consider a Suicune in Lucario's stead. It gives you a better switch-in to Heatran, an extra win condition that will likely be more consistent than Lucario, and a good stall killer all in one small package. I also think having a Water-type is important for every team, as it really helps out against opposing Water-types such as Greninja and Azumarill. With Suicune, you ease a lot of the defensive pressure off of Hippowdon, who was essentially doing all the sponging for your team.

Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Sleep Talk
- Rest
- Calm Mind

You might want to consider changing your Latias to a Latios. You're not using Latias for its strengths (higher defenses), and you're running fully offensive EVs. Latios provides a better win condition against other teams simply because it's more powerful, and consequently a bigger threat. This is a smaller change, and it really is based on my personal preference, but I still think you should give Latios a shot. If you do choose Latios, you can run the exact same set. I'm not exactly certain why you're running 28 HP EVs on Thundurus, but I really doubt they will help you survive anything relevant, so I suggest just giving it 252 Special Attack EVs and moving 4 to Special Defense. To sum everything up, because your team was fairly slow at first, I tried to strengthen your defensive backbone while maintaining the offensive nature of your team. I think the changes maintain the integrity of the team, though if you are bent on using Lucario, you could presumably try the Suicune over Bisharp (I think that is far less effective, though). Hopefully you will find my advice helpful. Good luck with the team.

I'll experiment with Suicune. Taunt on Thundurus is ok I guess, but if i run into toxic stall gliscor (which one of my friends has) I'll probably do nasty plot then hidden power ice. I guess taunt is a good idea.... but hidden power ice means garchomps that switch in on thundurus will die. Then again, I've been playing in lower rated areas since my messing around, so I'll give it a try.

Also, Mega Venusaur is a big ass problem for this team. I (think) Mega Venusaur usually runs a defensive set (not SDef) so if I run into that, I don't really have an answer other than +2 Flare Blitz or something, but that risks sleep powder.

Also, wow Togekiss dropped to UU? I used to use paraflinch Togekiss.

EDIT: taunt works well, I also likes suicune, as I no longer have to out muscle threats with Mega Zard or something else.

Just between Mamoswine's STABs alone, he hits all 6 pokemon super effectively, and you have no safe switch in, especially the scarf set. I would reccommend scarf Keldeo over Lucario. This will allow you to hit Mamoswine hard, and provides your team with a powerful cleaner.

Keldeo @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 Def/ 252 SpA/ 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Secret Sword
- Hydro Pump
- Icy Wind
- Hidden Power (Flying)

Idk IVs for HP flying but it helps hit mega Venusaur harder than any other of your moves.

you should definitely run scald over icy wind.
Icy Wind hits Garchomp, Dragonite, and Lati twins for more damage than any other attack. Also, if your opponent switches in on it, they lose speed, which is helpful if they're scarfed

scald allows you to get clutch burns on switchins like azumarill/scizor

Scizor can't hurt Keldeo regardless, and Keldeo can OHKO with Hydro Pump. Keldeo shouldn't even be in if the opponent has an Azumarill alive. Icy Wind is the better option

ferrothorn is a huge problem for me when they kill mega charizard. I also need a fighting type, so I guess keldeo might work? But I replaced lucario with suicune, which helps defensively, but i don't know if I should be going into more hyper offense.
