M4APL Week 2 Usage Stats
Hi! Bolivia here with the week 2 usage stats and maybe some analysis as well, since I hate myself. Contrary to last week, where the trends made relative sense to me, some of the stuff we're going to see in week 2 stats are mind boggling (for example, despite its dominance in last week, we have no MMeowf, etc). Let's just get right into it. Same format as last time.

I don't have a lot of time to do analysis, but it's a bit interesting that :Rillaboom: Rillaboom and :Heatran: Heatran, despite massive popularity, did not perform well this week. I think the prevalence of defensive grass resists in response to fear Rillaboom caused it to not perform as well (Corvi, Buzzwole, Moltres, etc). Heatran actually performed well in some of the games that it lost, such as removing Tapu Fini with magma storm grass Z in Sticky Fingaa's game, but nonetheless, rocks sets were heavily taken advantage of by ground types (Moltres continually slow u-turning into Garchomp against JosJet's Heatran in my game). I'm expecting these mons to bounce back in the future, but perhaps they are not as viable in m4a as we thought? :Tapu Fini: Tapu Fini won big this week, with 4 uses and 3 wins, which was impressive (that calm mind set in particular is ruthless). I think this thing's versatility is underappreciated, and it's getting the chance it deserves now which makes me happy. Additionally, Ninjacid used the same team three times and won, which screwed up the stats, what a meanie. :Reuniclus: Reuniclus was the only mega used more than once, and our used megas were incredibly diverse (except for that one dastardly MMedi that ruins my dreams of an all m4a mega week). As usual, :Kommo-o: had a great week, and it's high usage is equally proving of its current spot in the metagame. :Kartana: Kartana and :Rotom-Heat: Rotom-Heat were both mons I called underrated last week, and they both performed well this week, which is lucky for me. :Lycanroc-Dusk: Regular LDusk, :toxtricity: regular Toxtricity, and :Vaporeon: regular Vaporeon were all used in their regular forms instead of megas, which have been considered unviable in the past. Is there something about bluffing them to be the mega that is potent in m4a, or are these guys simply cheesy picks that will fade into obscurity. No :Slowbro: :Slowking: Slow twins or :Clefable: regular Clefable is bewildering. That's all, you all better enjoy this. I spent too long for you to not. Enjoy!

Exploziff and I have been working on this for quite a bit now, but as mostly competitive players of this mod it took quite a bit to finish it up. This is our concept for Mega Electrode.

:electrode:
Mega Electrode
Typing:
Electric/Normal
Ability: Fallout
Effect:
Starting from the turn right after a Pokémon with Fallout faints from direct damage, a Pokémon with this ability creates radioactivity on both sides of the field. This radioactivity deals damage that decays each turn until it reaches a continuous 1/64th damage each turn, this damage starts at 1/4 HP. (1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32)
"Starting from the turn right after a Pokémon with Fallout faints from direct damage, a Pokémon with this ability creates radioactivity on both sides of the field(essentially a screen), The radioactivity damage decays each turn until it reach a continuous 1/64th damage per turn. This damage starts at 1/4th of HP (1/4th, 1/8th, 1/16th, 1/32nd). This radioactivity does not affect Poison types Steel Types, or Pokémon with specific items such as, the Utility Umbrella, Safety goggles, or the abilities Poison Heal, Overcoat and Immunity. Your side is cleared by Defog, and it can be swapped using court change "

Flavor:Electrode is a Pokémon based upon a few things, first and foremost it is a Pokéball. The Pokeball is one of, if not the most common object in the Pokémon world, this is why we made it normal type. Since we’re adding the concept of nuclear energy we thought that having a bit of forced symmetry with the solar energy based Pokémon Heliolisk could be pretty cool, of course it’s mostly mechanical to gain the STAB Explosion. Electrode is the Pokémon version of the classic RPG Mimic so the normal type allows it to as well blend in a bit better flavor-wise. Our ability is based upon the development of nuclear power and the post fission Fallout that happens after an Explosion. Because of the instability of nuclear fission bombs we decided to lower the defenses.

Competitively speaking this Electrode has 2 roles: the living role using its good speed and high mixed offenses to chip through the opposing team thanks to volt switch and a coverage move such as HP Ice, and the Fallout role where it explodes to make a hole in the opponent team and use its ability to continuously provide chip damage support to the team, breaking sturdy and sash in the process. The added Normal typing gives electrode a much needed boost when exploding ensuring to OHKO Rillaboom without Atk investement, and doing a huge amount of damage to defensive Blissey, taking it out provided it has a bit of chip. On the other side, Electrode is easily checked by ground types, especially Hippodown and Excadrill that either have huge physical bulk or resist its explosion. Poison type also don't care about Electrodes fallout, making them able to absorb the few first turn of Fallout damage that are actually doing substantial damage. Amoonguss and Nidoqueen are both great checks to Electrode, Able to deal with its living and dead sides. Finally the need to explode to activate the ability give priority Mons a way to prevent it , and ghost type can ( notably the incoming Golurk) absorb the explosion that will be easier to predict due to Electrodes role.

As per usual, @inkbug’s art is spectacular, and he made a banner for the suspect. Super duper shoutouts to him!
Hi! Dark Prince Bolivia here, with an egregiously important announcement! We have...not 1, not 2, but 5 suspect tests planned for unbanning pokemon in m4apl! Ever since the banning of Tapu Lele, the meta has been in a balanced state. The usage statistics of m4apl have proven that there are no overwhelming threats in the singles tier (speaking of usage stats, hey, you should check those out, I made them and want more likes). However, the meta is lacking a bit of special spice, which makes unbanning a pokemon a prudent idea. Ausma, the comp council, the newly created round table, and I discussed, and there are plenty of pokemon that we think are fringe enough to be tested. 2 of them will be tested this week, and 3 of them will be postponed until post m4apl. Before we get into the pokemon at hand, allow me to explain how the suspect test works. A suspect test will consist of a double elimination bracket hosted on our challonge, in which afterwards, anyone who participated, spectated, or neither will be able to voice their thoughts on the discord server. Additionally, data from the suspect test will be used to determine whether or not the pokemon is worthy of being reintroduced. However, at the end of the day, only the winner of the suspect test and the competitive council will be able to vote on whether or not the pokemon is banned or unbanned. A suspect test is a great way for the players to have direct input on the state of the tier. Enough mucking around, though, allow me to introduce the 5 pokemon we are suspecting, starting with the first two this week!

tornadus-therian.png

Suspect 1: Free Birds (Thursday, 6pm EST)
Tornadus-Therian:
Tornadus-Therian was banned early into national dex because of the gen 8 addition of nasty plot. Nasty Plot allows the Z-Fly offensive Torn-T set - notable for circumventing Hurricane's atrocious accuracy - to be extremely potent. It's great speed stat and GOAT ability in regenerator allow its defensive defog sets to be exceptional, and very splashable with the addition of heavy duty boots. However, the prevalence of Tapu Koko, Weavile, MRaichu, and other pokemon that triumph over Tornadus-Therian's speed give this pokemon a wide range of offensive threats. In addition, Blissey utterly walls this pokemon even after boosts, and other spdef walls can be good checks (Heatran? Fini?). We're thinking this is going to be the most likely of the 5 to make it through, but nonetheless, it could still prove overbearing on the metagame. Will we let this pokemon fly as a free bird should? You'll have to suspect to figure out.

zamazenta-crowned.png

Suspect 2: Who Let The Dogs Out (Saturday 4pm EST)
Zamazenta-Crowned:
I'm very partial to this doggo. Zamazenta-Crowned has stats and an ability that are, for lack of better word, monstrous. In addition, his offensive typing is great, and he has access to a signature move that oozes with unnecessary power-creep (step aside, iron head, there's a new sheriff in town, and it's name is behemoth blade). However, Z-C has the unfortunate reality of being forced to equip a rusted shield, preventing it from wearing a choice band, rocky helmet, leftovers, Z-move, or any other item that it might want (or that its crownless relative likes to play with). I personally think this thing is definitely unbannable, but I don't make all of the decisions. Will Zamazenta-Crowned be let free, or will the puppy remain bwarking from behind the gates of UBERs (cringe, ik)?

blaziken.png

Suspect 3: Chicken Run (Post m4apl)
Blaziken:
Cackaw! Blaziken descends from the rungs of UBERs for the first (second) time since gen 5. While gen 8 allows this thing, and it actually does not perform well, Blaziken's ability to hold a Z move cannot be understated. Upon one swords dance and one use of a Z move, Blaziken ends up at +2 attack and +2 speed, as if another pokemon used dragon dance twice. The problem is, Blaziken uses dragon dance twice and also gets to fire off a Z move. Is that overpowering enough to warrant a ban? While offensive counterplay is nominal at best due to speed boost , there are plenty of pokemon that can live a hit at +2 and knock it a SE move (Blaziken's typing is pretty terrible defensively). All in all, this chicken is anxious to leave its coop, but we don't know if it'll get its chance until post-m4apl.

deoxys-speed.png

Suspect 4: A New Hope (Post m4apl)
Deoxys-Speed:
This one might come as a shocker. A pokemon that has been banned since gen-3 due to its obscene speed stat unrivaled (until resident dumb and stupid and annoying pokemon :Regieleki: Nerdgieleki that nobody likes came about I don't like Regieleki, if you couldn't tell). I'm getting sidetracked, though. Deoxys-Speed not only is far and away the premiere suicide lead, but has a ridiculous movepool. CM, Nasty Plot, bolt beam, aura sphere, psychic, psyshock, psycho boost, recover, spikes, stealth rock, and not to mention physical options? This mon has an extraordinary movepool. However, having only 95 in both attacking stats combined with a cringe HP stat leaves this pokemon prone to being fast, but not strong or bulky. While it's hazard lead set will refresh the HO side of the metagame, which is all but terrible (even though MKrook HO seems sinister, someone should try that), the suspect test will hopefully shed light on whether this pokemon is any sort of offensive threat. All in all, Deoxys-Speed finally has a new hope, but hopefully the force is right with this space robot!

cinderace.png

Suspect 5: Bend it like Beckham: The Musical (Post m4apl)
Cinderace:
Hoo boy, this one is going to make a few people angry. Libero Cinderace was one of the biggest scourges of ndex OU, scraping by one suspect test before ultimately succumbing to a second. This pokemon had plenty of options - with 2 separate meta defining threats - and 6-7 great moves it could pick at its leisure. It was so meta defining, that Slowbro, a pokemon now considered to be past its prime, and a fringe A-, was nearly considered for a suspect test in national dex when it arrived. However, upon entry, the rabbit is merely a fire type, and despite normally using HDB, it is threatened tremendously by stealth rocks, as well as stray hits. Additionally, some have speculated that there are more defensive options to counter this pokemon than originally thought. All in all, this pokemon has bent the rules of typing before with its grotesque libero ability, but will it be able to bend its way back into the spotlight (I've never seen the movie, so I can't make many jokes :( ). You'll have to stay tuned to find out.

Okay, that's all from me. Stick around for the challonge bracket for the first two suspects to go up soon! Shoutouts to Paulluxx for the suspect names, pupugugu, ViZar, and Exploziff (and Paul again) for providing invaluable input during the round table, the council and comp council for being swagadocious as always, and to the Eruption because frankly, they're the best team and deserved to be mentioned :P. Enjoy these suspects!!

:Empoleon: :Alakazam: vs :Staraptor: :Keldeo: AKA Pupu vs Bekama has been removed from usage statistics due to a statistical anomaly. However, all games are still out of 22. It's definitely not because neither of them posted the replay and I completely forgot the match happened or even existed unilt I was halfway done compiling this list. For the future, the winner of the game posting the replay makes doing this monumentally easier, so I'd appreciate it tremendously. Oops :P!
I'm also retiring mega statistics. I'll just note megas that are used more than once in my analysis.

:Zapdos:: This thing went from a perennially used pokemon in the 10-20 range, to being top 2 in usage on the week, is for lack of better word, astounding. Something I'll be referencing a lot is the top 15 vanilla pokemon list (the permutations are different, but on the discord the other day, many users created their top 15 vanilla pokemon list, and Zapdos usually hung out around the bottom of the list). Despite being nearly consensus outside of the top 10, the defensive utility, great ability in static, and splashable nature made it a hot commodity this week. I'm assuming that we will continue to use more Zapdos builds as the weeks continue.
:Clefable:: We saw another huge uptick in usage from 0 uses in week 2 and a mere 2 uses in week 1, to 5 uses this week. The shift in fairy uses is most likely due to the strong nature of Kommo-o in the meta (which, and we'll talk about this, only had one use this week). However, Clefable is finally making use of the moves it received from its mega - specifically wisp - making it one of the only viable users of all 3 statuses. We have yet to see any more Mega Clef since week 2, but the recent invention of JetClef means we'll most likely be seeing more of it sometime soon. In the meantime, Clefable has (finally) returned to its strong foothold in the metagame.
:Tapu Fini:: Similarly, Tapu Fini saw an uptick in usage as well. At one point regarded the worst of the 4 tapus, Tapu Fini has recently become an egregious tyrant in the metagame as a result of its calm mind + draining kiss set, and defensive utility with defog. These two fairy types are probably stronger in m4a than they are in natdex, and I think we'll be seeing a lot more of these two in the near future.
:Hatterene: You can thank Exploziff and me for this one. Hatterene, previously considered unviable in natdex, was not used in either of the first two weeks. However, Exploziff and I did some tinkering in the evil depths of the Eruption discord, and we discovered that this discount Lele can pack a serious punch. Utilizing magic bounce to deter hazards, you're allowed to run stallier builds without needing Mega Sableye for magic bounce. Additionally, my "cali lifestyle" (named after the titular BoJack Horseman episode) Hatterene was able to survive a choice band surging strikes from Urshifu-Rapid-Strike, and KO back with draining kiss.The Hat is an Eruption approved new threat in m4aOU (as it is outclassed by Lele, and thus, obsolete in ndex OU), and I think that Hat is one of the most exciting developments in m4a singles.
:Infernape: :Corviknight: and :Rillaboom:: These megas were all used more than once. Do their double uses carry some sort of viability connotation? In my opinion, Infernape was used twice by Magmajudis because it had a great game 2 matchup. However, despite losing 2 games, MCorvi and MRilla were used twice. At least in Kero vs ShinGen, Mega Corviknight was an immense surprise, so much so that it fooled me when I was compiling these statistics (with using a Slowking, Mimikyu, and Nidoqueen, which all could have also been mega pokemon). All in all in all in all, I think that these two megas have great use in the sense that their non-mega counterparts already have exquisite usage, and can catch pokemon off guard (not to mention that Mega Rilla is extremely ridiculous at +2).
:Kommo-o: Kommo was only used once, and it was a dragon dance. Perhaps players anticipated an uptick in fairy usage and made the necessary changes. The one set used was a dragon dance set (that nonetheless, swept the game). Despite a quiet week in usage, Kommo nonetheless held considerable influence over the metagame, and I'm assuming we'll continue to see more use of it in the coming weeks.
:Pangoro:: Is this thing real? Definitely the most interesting pick we've seen so far. I think this will be a one time thing, but seeing a cool, never-before-seen mon like Pangoro getting continuous usage in m4apl would be probably the greatest thing of all time. I hope it gets more usage (even if it got rocked in the game it was used in)!

Okay that's all I have time for. There's a lot more I could analyze but I have other things I need to do lmao. Enjoy me farming likes in this thread once again this fun post!!

Mega Golurk
Type:
GroundIC_Big.png
GhostIC_Big.png

Ability: Neuroforce

HP: 89
Atk: 169 (+35)
Def: 100 (+20)
SpA: 70 (+15)
SpD: 95 (+15)
Spe: 70 (+15)

New Moves: None

Reasoning:
Golurk's pokedex entries state that when its seal is removed, its internal energy goes out of control and it enters a state of rage. Mega Golurk's design would have this seal removed, amplifying Golurk's strengths, and making its hits destructively hard. However, Mega Evolution also tampers with Golurk's internal programming, allowing it to surpass its cognitive limitations, and now enabling it to learn and take advantage of its opponent's weak points. Neuroforce represents this development, and competitively speaking it rewards the user for correct predictions and for not simply spamming its strong STAB moves. This encourages more thoughtful play and makes Golurk's use less linear, and thanks to how many different coverage options this mon has, it would also be able to act as a lure or punish certain defensive mons that think they can take it on. Paired with base 169 Atk it might seem very strong at a glance, but Golurk's best options for boosting its Atk are either Bulk Up or maybe Power Up Punch, and with base 70 Spe it is still not very difficut to revenge. Rock Polish can allow it to outspeed certain offensive checks, but without boosting its Atk, as well as only having 1 slot for coverage, its going to both struggle more against certain defensive mons and also get less value from Neuroforce. This combination of stats/ability has variety in use, but also enough counterplay.

Mega Electrode
Type:
ElectricIC_Big.png
IceIC_Big.png

Ability: Superconductor (When using an Ice type move, this pokemon gains the Charge effect)
Note: it does not gain the SpD boost that comes with using the move Charge. Only the effect of a boosted Electric-type attack the next turn is applied.

HP: 60
Atk: 50
Def: 95 (+25)
SpA: 120 (+40)
SpD: 100 (+20)
Spe: 165 (+15)

New Moves: Ice Ball, Ice Beam, Aurora Veil, Haze, Flash Cannon, Rapid Spin

Reasoning: Superconductors are incredibly cool (pun intended) and I think one of the few logical ways to justify an Electric/Ice typing. Essentially, superconductors are materials that are able to conduct electricity with absolutely zero resistance once they become colder than a certain critical temperature, which is usually only a few degrees Kelvin away from absolute zero. I figured Electrode cooling down to increase the efficiency at which it conducts electricity would be a very cool concept for a mega evolution, and is the reasoning for this ability. Competitively, I figured giving Electrode some new potential instead of amplifying what it had would be the more interesting option, as I don't think having a mega evolution that just sets screens and taunts is particularly exciting. This concept would provide the user with some pretty powerful Electric attacks, but it does require some good predictions. As good as the type combination is offensively, it also comes at a cost defensively, with Electrode now gaining a Rock (and Fighting+Fire) weakness and no room (or feet) for Heavy Duty Boots.

As for the new moves, I felt like Rapid Spin and Flash Cannon would've always made sense for it to begin with, and the new Ice type moves are to facilitate its new ability. Haze is inspired by the fact that superconductors always have some sort of haze coming off of them due to their insanely low temperature. Ice Beam is mostly as a competitive aid to its ability, but is also justified by being described as a "beam of energy" in its move description, which Electrode would be capable of producing. In addition, with Electrode being from Gen 1, some odd coverage wouldn't be entirely out of place. Ice Ball is for flavour, and because it's a ball and it's ice-cold. It'd feel strange to me if I excluded this move for the concept. Aurora Veil expands on its base form's functionality as a screens setter, albeit in a more niche way considering it doesn't set its own hail like other Veil users. In addition, if you were to use it on a hail team, it would allow Electrode to set up for itself both defensively as well as offensively at the same time.

Mega Silvally
Type:
NormalIC_Big.png

Ability: RKS Error - If this Pokemon is Mega Silvally, it becomes typeless:
UnknownIC_Big.png
(Cannot be suppressed or copied by any move or ability)
Note: Multi-Attack also becomes typeless, but Mega Silvally does not gain STAB from this attack.

HP: 95
Atk: 115 (+20)
Def: 115 (+20)
SpA: 135 (+40)
SpD: 115 (+20)
Spe: 95

New Moves: Fire Pledge, Water Pledge

Reasoning: Being constructed in Alola, Silvally was not built with Mega Evolution in mind. As such, this foreign energy interferes with Silvally's RKS System and disables it entirely, leaving it completely typeless. Competitively speaking, I think having a typeless mon would be very interesting. Having 0 weaknesses is balanced out pretty well by having 0 resists and 0 STABs as well. If any mon would become typeless upon mega evolving, I think it would be Silvally, considering its entire concept is based around switching types. Its stat spread was made in mind with how in-game, Silvally is stated to be so powerful that they had to put a physical seal on its body, but base 95 all around and a PU tiering at best really don't reflect that. Raising its offenses is more reflective of this reputation. Its SpA is raised more, both to encourage use of special coverage, and to balance out Swords Dance sets. Its defenses are increased by 20 each, as I feel this would be more balanced than increasing its speed tier. It does have potent setup sets, but with 95 Spe, it would likely want dual-dance with SD+Flame Charge, which will be more difficult to pull off given its lack of recovery.

Mega Golurk
Type:
Ground / Ghost
Ability: Haunting (Ghost moves get a 50% boost when under 1/3 HP, like the starter abilities and Swarm)
Stats:
HP: 89
Att: 154 (+30)
Def: 100 (+20)
SpA: 55
SpD: 120 (+40)
Spe: 65 (+10)

For a long time I've mostly associated Golurk with Rock Polish, and the "oh shit" moment when this lumbering behemoth suddenly kicks into full gear and starts barreling through your team at mach speed. With this mega, I tried to continue that theme of awakened power.

Haunting has an interesting synergy with Curse, but I honestly don't think that'll actually be viable (would love to be proven wrong). However, Substitute remains as useful as ever. It even has nice synergy with Rock Polish, the move that inspired this mega. Setting up a Substitute gives Mega Golurk more safety with which to set up a Rock Polish, and setting up a Rock Polish gives Mega Golurk more control over its HP since it can set up Substitutes before it gets hit.

Haunting was chosen as the name to follow the naming convention of "a whole lotta ____". A blaze is a whole lotta fire, a torrent is a whole lotta water, and a swarm is a whole lotta bugs. Overgrow isn't a noun, but it is a verb that means to get covered by a whole lotta plants, with blaze and swarm doubling as verbs as well. A haunting is the best word I could think of to mean "a whole lotta ghosts" but I'm not a huge fan of it, so if anyone has an idea for a better name, please DM me.

I haven’t subbed here before and I haven’t paid much attention to the thread since slate 8, so lmk if I fucked anything up lol

:ss/silvally:
Type: Normal
Stats: 95 / 125 / 95 / 125 / 95 / 135 (+30 Atk, +30 SpA, +40 Spe)
Movepool Additions: Fire Pledge, High Horsepower, Recover, Water Pledge

Ability: Photographic Memory
On switch-in (and only on switch-in), this Pokemon copies the opponent’s type combination, and, if successful, will retain that typing for the rest of the match. Multi-Attack matches this Pokemon’s primary typing.
For consistency, these mechanics are all based on a combination of RKS System, Imposter, and Reflect Type:

- Photographic Memory has no effect on Pokemon other than Silvally-Mega.

- PM activates on switch-in, but not when acquired (ie when first mega evolving).

- PM fails if the opponent is fainted, behind a Substitute, disguised by an Illusion, or is Typeless (such as an Arcanine that’s used Burn Up). It can be reactivated indefinitely until a typing has been memorized by switching out and switching back in.

- PM factors in the target’s type changes.

- A Pokemon with PM cannot have its type changed.

- PM cannot be copied or replaced. Ability suppression can prevent the initial memorization of a typing, but has no effect after a typing has been memorized.

- In battles with multiple opponents, PM follows the same behaviour as Imposter when choosing which mon to target.

This is just a fun mon based around the best kind of gimmick; one that requires careful setup but is hugely rewarding when it pays off. Beyond being a pun I’m amazed nobody’s used yet, Photographic Memory essentially lets you counterpick your typing based on what the opponent’s running if you manage to pivot in safely, but because you need to come in at least twice to memorize a typing (once to mega, and the second time to activate the ability), you’ll need to be very careful in the early-game. Multi-Attack ensures that you’ll always have a hard-hitting and spammable move regardless of what typing you copy, but even with the additions of HH and Play Rough, the special side definitely has the advantage in coverage, so you can really lean either way depending on how much you want to rely on your memorized type.

Mega Electrode
Type:
Electric / Dark
Ability: Unaware
Moves: Power Swap, Rising Voltage, Steel Roller
Stats:

Electrode is Pokemon's take on the classic RPG Mimic: a monster that disguises itself as a chest of goodies in order to lure in greedy explorers. It follows then that Mega Electrode should be focused around punishing greedy opponents. So what does it mean to be greedy in Pokemon? Well, most of the time I hear about someone "getting greedy" in Pokemon, it's in the context of using a stat-boosting move more times than was necessary to win. So let's make Mega Electrode good at punishing stat boosts.

If your aim is to punish stat boosts, you can't get much better than Unaware. The flavor is kinda weird, but Unaware's Japanese name is Airhead, and Electrode is known to float in the air when it's full of electricity and is basically just a head, so I think it works. Anyway, you may be asking yourself what Mega Electrode can do that other Unaware users like Clefable, Quagsire, and Pyukumuku can't. The answer is twofold.

The first thing that Mega Electrode brings is speed. Unlike every other Unaware user (besides Swoobat but no one uses Unaware Swoobat because Simple go brrrr) Mega Electrode is fast. Extremely fast. Faster than any other mega in this mod (hey, Electrode used to be the fastest Pokemon in existence; it deserves this). This allows it to put an offensive spin on the role, which is accentuated by its second X-factor: STAB Foul Play. Other Unaware users stop sweepers in their tracks by walling them to kingdom come, but Mega Electrode takes a more active approach and fully turns the opponent's boosts against them.

I also gave it Power Swap for good measure, as it's a new TM in Gen 8. I doubt that move will be good on it, but it will probably be a fun gimmick, and it gives Mega Electrode a way to mess with special attackers beyond just ignoring their boosts.

You already know how Libero/Protean works.

Sp. Defense: 125 (+45)

Golurk is based on the legend of the Golem of Prague, shown as the robot clay like being; why don't we too, make his ability based on him?
You can Mold Clay, so why not Mold the opposing Pokèmon's typings?
Whatever move you use against your opponent, it makes their typing exactly that. So if I used Dynamic Punch on a Psychic Type Pokèmon, it would become a Fighting Type Pokèmon and lose its Psychic Stab. This ability can be manipulated with Golurk's Move, Poltergeist, allowing you to change the typing of the opposing Pokèmon and then hitting a 2nd time for a Super Effective Hit. This is exactly why I didn't increase Golurk's Physical Attack, because of its Broken Ability. (Please note that Ghost Type Moves cannot affect Normal Type Pokemon, therefore it cannot change its typing and that it doesn't first change its typing then deal damage, it deals damage then changes the typing)

If you want to test this in M4A Sandbox, *hu124130070125045 is the name for the Golurk. Make sure you put Color Change on the opposing Pokèmon as that is basically what this Pokèmon does. Here is a replay as an example: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/dragonheaven-gen8m4asandbox-306

HP: 60
Attack: 75 (+25)
Defense: 100 (+30)
Sp. Attack: 105 (+25)
Sp. Defense 100 (+20)
Speed: 150

An Electrode is based on a Pokèball, you use a Pokèball to catch Pokèmon, and practically make them slaves! So why not make Electrode's ability be what it's resembled on?
Hydrogenic Pull basically prevents Pivot Moves from being used/working. U-Turn, Volt Switch, Etc obviously deal damage, but it doesn't allow the opponent to switch out. Mega Electrode resisting 2 of the most common Pivot Moves, U-Turn and Volt Switch, makes this a great Pokèmon for the Ability!

I felt Electrode should be a bit more Bulky while being able to deal decent damage. There's honestly no point in giving it extra speed when it is already EXTREMELY FAST.

If you want to test this in M4A Sandbox, *es075100105100150 is the name for the Electrode. Pretend that there is another Pokèmon on the opponent's team and that it can't switch with U-Turn. Here is a replay as an example: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/dragonheaven-gen8m4asandbox-365

New Ability: Prismatic Energy: When this pokemon switches in, then its typing changes to a random type that resists one of the target's types. If a type resists both of the target's types, then it is prioritized.

For Example: If the target is a Psychic/Ground type, then Silvally's typing changes to either Steel, Psychic, Bug, Grass, Flying, or Dark, because those are the types that resist psychic or ground. However, if the target's type is Psychic/Fighting, Silvally's typing always changes to the Psychic type because psychic resists both psychic and fighting.

New Moves: Water Pledge, Fire Pledge, Quick Attack, Rapid Spin
Description: With all these Protean and type changing abilities around I feel like a different approach should be considered. As the Pokemon definition of versatility, Silvally is in a unique spot for its stats are balanced and its move pool is very wide. However, using its RKS system, this Pokemon is always shedding what I believe to be one of the greatest defensive typing in the game, the Normal type, which has only one weakness and one immunity. This ability allows it to keep its great defensive typing while still putting offensive pressure on the opposing team. With moves like Multi-Attack, Hyper Voice and Explosion, it can really start putting that STAB to good use along with its stat boosting Swords Dance and Calm Mind. Adding Rapid Spin threatens to clear rocks and boosting its already great speed, while Quick Attack provides a nice priority move that can leave any opponent weary.

Uh, yeah no.
  1. We are not doing urshifu since it's an uber
  2. We only accept megas for the current slate, which is silvally, golurk and electrode
  3. Mega doesn't follow the + 100 best addition rule
  4. We prefer for our megas to be balanced thank you very much
  5. We don't accept custom moves, especially those without defined BP and accuracy

Hey guys. Please don’t clog up the thread with one liners.

This Urshifu breaks submission rules and adds more than 100 BST, but besides that. If you would like to make a mega Urshifu this is not the place to be posting it as the current slate is Silvally Electrode and Golurk, and Urshifu is being saved for Ubers anyways. Join the discord for help and feedback if you would like to submit a Mega Urshifu in the future. Here

With the M4A VGC matches finally coming to an end in the M4A Premier League, it is now time to publish the first M4A VGC viability ranking and provide resource material for anyone who want to give a try to this format. Moreover, if a Pokémon isn't mentioned in the viability ranking, it likely means that it hasn't seen much play yet, if at all. The list will be updated from time to time. The viability ranking was heavily influenced by the recent M4A Premier League and the first M4A VGC tournament.

S-Rank
Reserved for the very best Pokemon in the VGC metagame. These Pokemon are usually able to perform a variety of roles effectively, or can just do one extremely well. Their use has low risk involved and high reward exerted. Pokemon in this tier have very few flaws that are patched up by numerous positive traits.

C-Rank
Reserved for Pokemon that have notable niches in the VGC metagame, but have just as notable flaws that prevent them from being effective. Pokemon in the C tier often require significant support to be effective in VGC. C rank Pokemon tend to find themselves outclassed by Pokemon in the above tiers, and face a lot of competition for a team slot.

1) Trick Room
Thanks to Mega Slowking and a few other Trick Room users, Trick Room is one of the best archetypes of the metagame. You are expected to deal with Mega Reuniclus, Mega Slowking, and Glastrier, the latter two forming a terrifying duo that is very hard to deal with. As for Mega Reuniclus, it is very hard to take down due to its bulk and adaptability to Intimidate, turning it into a real powerhouse.
In answer to these threats, Mega Dhelmise, Mega Mawile, Aegislash, Tapu Fini, and Hatterene rise in their viability.

2) Weather: Hail & Rain
Weather is also one of the best archetypes. Hail and Rain are, by far, the best weather forms as they come in different forms and have good team support. Mega Dhelmise is the face of Rain teams as it can beat a variety of teamstyles like Trick Room and doesn't stack weaknesses. Moreover, Primordial Sea can only be overridden by Mega Alolan Ninetales's Eternal Winter or blocked by Cloud 9. This makes Mega Dhelmise a very reliable Pokémon. Hail, on the other hand, is commonly represented by Mega Aurorus and Mega Alolan Ninetales. The former nullifies Rock moves and has an astounding bulk that can be quite threatening with a Calm Mind set. Due to its Electric/Ice dualtype, Mega Aurorus has perfect STABs to hit almost any target for, at least, neutral damage. Mega Alolan Ninetales offers a variety of support for its partner such as Arctozolt or Kommo-o, and is able to maintain Hail very reliably, unless it faces Mega Dhelmise. The constant chip damage and immediate speed advantage mean the opponent usually has to take damage first and has to take care of Pokémon atttacking and setting up behind Aurora Veil.

3) Ghost & Dark
Trick Room being a powerful archetype is one of the reasons why Ghost and Dark are very strong in this metagame. Spectrier, for instance, can reliably take out or extremely weaken most common Trick Room setters or abusers like Hatterene, Dusclops, Mega Dhemise, and Mega Reuniclus. Its high speed and power make Spectrier very hard to deal with, especially if it runs Focus Sash, Ghostium-Z, or Substitute. Aegislash can function as an alternative option with access to Wide Guard. Dusclops is a reliable option to set-up Trick Room thanks to its immense bulk and support options. Mega Dhelmise's impact on the metagame is already explained.
Dark is commonly represented by Incineroar, Galarian Moltres, and Urshifu-Single-Strike. The former provides excellent utility and has the ideal typing to threaten Hail and the most common Trick Room users. The second acts as a lategame win condition and threatens most Trick Room users. The latter has the same advantage and is able to weaken Ice Pokémon significantly. Urshifu-Single-Strike's power and ability to hit through scouting moves like Protect necessitate Pokémon on a team that are able to tank its moves and can force it out, such as Tapu Fini.

4) Sleep
Mega Orbeetle's presence requires you to have some ways to protect yourself from sleep. With a partner like Gothitelle, you can trap and put to sleep both opposing targets as the two of them learn Hypnosis. After that, you can simply switch out to another Pokémon or set up. Another aspect to point out is that Mega Orbeetle's typing and bulk are useful to tank hits from most Trick Room users. Moreover, it can even enable a partner to use Ground moves against Flying Pokémon or Pokémon with Levitate, and promote the use of powerful moves that are inaccurate.
Another viable Pokémon that can use a sleep move is Amoonguss, which comes with fantastic supports, like Rage Powder.

This compendium aims to collect sample sets & EV spreads for the most common Pokémon in the M4A VGC format. Some sample teams are also included. It will be updated from time to time.

:bw/golurk:
New Ability: Steelworker
Type: Ground / Ghost

New Stats:
HP: 89
Attack: 124 -> 154 (+30)
Defense: 80 -> 110 (+30)
Special Attack: 55
Special Defense: 80 -> 110 (+30)
Speed: 55 -> 65 (+10)
(583 BST)

New moves: Bullet Punch
Description: Golurk now has considerably large bulk, combined with what is essentially a newly gained steel type STAB, Golurk has a good amount of coverage with Ground/Ghost/Steel moves. With the option to forgo one STAB option for Drain Punch for recovery to maintain its bulk. Apart from a bulky attacker set, you can choose to forgo bulk for speed and use Rock Polish to outspeed and sweep your opponent.

Ah yes, the slate that I have had my subs finished but didn't sub for over at least a month

:bw/golurk:
Mega Golurk @ Golurkite
Type: Ground/Ghost
Ability: Berserk

Stats:
HP: 89
ATK: 124 -> 70 (swapped with spa)
DEF: 80 -> 120 (+40)
SPA: 55 -> 139 (swapped with attack and +15)
SPD: 80 -> 120 (+40)
SPE: 55 -> 60 (+5)
BST: 583
New Moves: Pain Split
So, Golurk has a suprising amount of good special moves, like Shadow Ball and Earth Power for STAB, Psychic, BoltBeam, and more, so I thought it could take advantage of those by turning into a special attacker. The ability Berserk is based on the Pokedex entries saying that if its seal breaks, it will go on a rampage. Pain Split allows it to heal itself up a little and also be able to re-activate Berserk, while also weakning the opponent a little. Could also use Rock Polish to become a speedy sweeper.

:sm/silvally:
Mega Silvally @ Silvallite
Type: Normal
Ability: Chimera - When this Pokemon switches in, it changes to the type of the last move used by the opponent. If no move was used yet, then this Pokemon is Normal type. (Multi Attack type is this Pokemon’s primary type)

Stats:
HP: 95
ATK: 95 -> 115 (+20)
DEF: 95 -> 125 (+30)
SPA: 95 -> 115 (+20)
SPD: 95 -> 125 (+30)
SPE: 95 -> 95
New Moves: Play Rough, Dazzling Gleam, Aura Sphere, Brick Break, Water Pledge, Fire Pledge
Chimera allows Mega-Silvally to act as a pretty good defensive pivot, but not entirely unbreakable, due to the fact that some types are super effective/neutral against themselves and it doesn't have recovery. However, it is normally a good counter to choice locked mons, can have some decent setup with Swords Dance, and is fairly defensive.

:bw/electrode:
Mega-Electrode @ Electrite
Type: Electric
Ability: Voltorb Flip - Whenever a Pokemon makes contact with this Pokemon, it has a 30% chance to get a random Pokeball. Whenever its item is replaced, it takes ⅛ damage. (does not apply if the item that the other pokemon is holding is a rusted shield/sword, a mega stone, etc)

Stats:
HP: 60
ATK: 50 -> 50
DEF: 70 -> 110 (+40)
SPA: 80 -> 100 (+20)
SPD: 80 -> 100 (+20)
SPE: 150 -> 170 (+20)
New Moves: Recover
haha arcade game go brr (:
