Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

I'm going to get the game no matter what, but I was just wondering if I needed to play any other Metroid games to acually "get into" Metroid Prime 3.
Its advised you don't play the first 2 Metroid Primes, because while I'm sure there are tons of differences, Prime 3 is essentially the same as the first 2. Play Super Metroid, Metroid Zero Mission, and Metroid Fusion to get into Metroid and immerse yourself, and fully enjoy Prime 3, but I don't think its 100% necessary.

That said I will be getting this tomorrow despite not wanting to initially because I am more excited for Galaxy and Brawl.

My friend has Metroid Zero Mission, i'll borrow it from him.

Great game and as it's a remake of the very first game, it's definitely worth playing first. Also very short, go for it. The only reason I say play Prime 1 and 2 before Prime 3 is they are a trilogy and they do have a loosely connected plot. They're pretty cheap too.

How far are you in the game? No spoilers, just an amount of hours or something like that.

I won't go to school thursday and friday next week! Weeeee!
I'm only bout 2 hours and I'm quite pleased with the controls,I was worried it would handle like Call of Duty 3,but the controls are really smooth and by the time you get any real action you find yourself aiming without any real issues.

Unlike DS games, Wii games are region locked.

Anyhoo, just posting to say this game is great! It handles really well, and looks better than the previous two Primes, and better than the screenshots as well. As for the music, the title musicis pretty epic, and the rest sounds fittin from what I've heard. I'm playing veteran difficulty, and so far it seems a bit easier than the first two beginnings, but we'll see about that as the game progresses ;)

One thing I really have to comment on is the voice acting. All the voices I've heard sseem to fit the characters; the voices of the other Hunters are all great (though Rundas may be my favourite). Much better than the sound effects for speech in Echoes and Zelda : Twilight Princess. Sure, some of the dialog is a bit corny, but nothing like the Resident Evil series (thankfully, Rundas seems to speak the least).

well, i have the game and needless to say its all i expected it to be. i'm still getting used to the controls, and the turning isn't as fast as i would like it to be but aside from those very very minor problems, its a great game.

Yes, the control does take some getting used to; I think I'm only getting it now! It has a steeper learning curve (IMO), but it's much better control than the first two Primes.

Anyway, I'd say the game sure has some "wow" moments. If not due to the graphics (yes kids, "wow"-worthy graphics on the Wii), then by in-game events. Like seeing a favourite character pass by ("What the heck was that?"), or shoot at what was thought to be a dreaded enemy, instead getting a fleeting glimpse of a missing ally!

I'm not even that far, but I can say this game is awesome! The music isn't quite as good as the first Prime though, I don't think. The atmosphere is different as well ... with an epic "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" sort of feel. Or at leat that's what I think. I'll probably give you guys a review after I beat the game!

i got this game today and its much more than i hoped it could be...i thought mp1 was decent, nowhere near the best gcn game, and i thought mp2 was HORRIBLE, the atmosphere, the ammo, the purple, the story...it just all sucked and i only got halfway through it. If you are like me and were reluctant to get this because mp2 sucked, this is nothing like it.

Wii was made for metroid im convinced...the controls are so fluid, best controlling console game ever. I took the time to practice on that game right outside your ship where you have to keep that little thing in the air by shooting it...I got a high score of 13 (this prolly sucks compared to you guys) but it really helped me get a feel for the controls, and i love it.

The story seems better, the graphics are great, the sound is often epic...and best of all you dont lose any of your items! The boss fights ive done so far (first two) were really epic (who else was like HOLY SHIT COOL BEANS after you beat the first boss?? That was epic)

So far ive really just gone around scanning lots of shit, but i can tell its gonna be good. The whole ship flying system is cool, and the environments are sure to be varied due to the different planets. Also, the limited morph ball puzzles so far have been really cool, and i can only expect them to get better. Also the voice acting is spot on as has been already mentioned.

Overall, amazing game, 10/10 best game on wii so far (fuck zelda), buy this now.

agreed man. i don't usually like using the word epic but in all honesty this game describes it perfectly. first boss fight was a lot of fun, second boss fight was even better. i expected the second boss fight, in fact anyone would have if they have been keeping up with at least a couple of videos for the game, but it still shook me up. voice acting is great. the objectives make it kinda linear at first, but i'm happy i'm not getting lost and they are awesome.

you know what makes me really happy? the puzzles. in both prime games, the puzzles were cool, but they seemed out of place. in the first game there was a room where you had to shoot a panel with the plasma beam, get in morph ball and roll into a chozo statue's hands so that it moves and reveals a hole underneath that you go into and eventually find an artifact. that was cool, but it didn't seem natural. corruption, on the other hand, is beautifully designed. everything looks natural, and i'm especially in love with bryyo (those fucking invisible enemies are pissing me off though).

having a few hours to myself with the game, here's the verdict: if you have a wii, buy this game.

I'm about an hour and a half in, I wasn't a huge fan of the first two, but this is shaping up to be pretty awesome, no searching for my broken suit or anything (yet). All the power-ups are right there given to you along the way. So far I am loving it and the pace is keeping me in the game, Metroid Prime 1 was way too slow for me so thats why I never finished it, and that is another reason I was even going to just skip this and wait for Galaxy. But this is really immersive, I mean right at the start of the game I feel I am Samus pressing all the buttons and activating things. And the grapple beam is pretty awesome.

I still need to figure out what to do with the Jump and Fire scheme as I keep switching it but neither feels comfortable for me.

So far I'm happy I got it and this will tide me over until Brawl and Galaxy.

This is and amazing game. I'm not sure how long I played it yesterday, because I lost track of time while playing it, but I
[SPOILERS: PRESS CTRL+A]
just got the ice missiles after defeating the third boss, phazon-corrupted Rundas. I found him quite difficult on Veteran mode - nearly ten minutes of sustained fire.
[/SPOILERS]
I never played MP2, but this reminds me in every way of the original MP, but with more immersive controls, slightly more linear (ie. no more getting lost) worlds that still make you feel like you like you can go wherever you want, and far cooler weapons.

One of my biggest concerns when buying this game was that it was going to be to action oriented, and the puzzles and exploration would be downsized, but it all shaped up perfectly. While wandering around the amazing, lush, environments (including effects such as fogged up visor and Samus's reflection), the unique puzzles will leave you stumped for a long time if you don't scan your environment in each new room. I originally wasn't going to go for 100% percent scans on my first play through, but now I still have my scan visor up frequently for all of the bosses, new enemies, and other strange items.

After first starting the game, I was a bit surprised by the controls, until I remembered to change to Advance mode, where I was awestruck at the fluid, easy aiming. By the time I exited the ship I had the controls down fine. Eventually I even got down those precision shots required to open those doors on the first planet (Norion?). The free-aim while locking is also extremely welcome, as well as the auto-hop in morph ball by flicking the Wii Remote.

I honestly am amazed at this game, with its stunning locations, creative level design, and fantastic puzzles, and pacing. Thinking hard about anything negative I could say about this game, the only things are minor, such as the meteor obviously being painted onto the sky, looking out of place among the excellent graphics, the countdown timer not being on screen (it's annoying, but useful), and the situation that occurred in the third boss fight (read spoilers).

This game is an outstanding title for the Wii, and it not only lived up to all of the hype, but surpassed it, while thankfully putting down all of those who wanted an FPS with multiplayer that was on par with Halo (stupid MPH...).

Eh, all my rambling couldn't possibly do the game justice.

the thing is that i don't think there was actually a countdown timer, the aurora unit just declared how much time there was when you reached a certain mark on your way to the control tower. it did seem like a minute between each declaration of time left, however.

I actually waited for it, just to see if I would actually die.
4 min.
3 min.
2 min.
1 min.
Game Over.

Not that it really matters, I just like my onscreen countdown timer.

I'm planning on getting the game this weekend. I've only played Zero Mission and Hunters, but both were good so that's what got me excited for this.

If I hated prime, will I hate this one too? Are the wiimote controls smoother than the clunky analog stick control while less annoyingly sensetive than CoD3?

The only metroid game I played all of the way through was Super Metroid and I loved it, I played fusion all of the way through too but it was way easy at too many parts and extremely annoying at others, like the X-Suit thing chasing you, ice beam takes off a full fucking energy bar, that sucks.

I love this game so far. The controls, voice acting, etc. are all very well done. Bryyo's music is amazing imo.

SPOILERS: HIGHLIGHT TO SEE
Right now I believe I am about to fight Ghor.

I'm going to say that if you didn't like Prime, there's a chance you might like this one. The pacing and everything is different, but the core gameplay is very similar. I can't compare it to CoD, but the controls are amazing once you get used to them. I'm using the "Advanced" sensitivity. Don't forhet you can still change the Wiimote sensitivity externally.

My next point on the game is difficulty; I've come across two non-combat points in the game where I was a little stuck, but nothing major (the latter I tried too hard, and the solution was right under my nose). The rest are simple in my opinion. Like in the previous Metroid Prime games, the combat is harder for me (I died : Once against the first boss, twice against the third, and had a hell of a time with the fourth), but it's not mind-numbingly hard. Everything feels a little less forced in this game I'd say.

Spoiler alert (White font, highlight to read):

Looks like I was right about the other Hunters. On that note, Rundas was a fairly tough boss IMO, and it was pretty funny the way he died.

CoD's default sensetivity is set to "if you go to scratch your ass your gun flips out and you lose all sense of where the fuck you are and usually die".

Anything better than that and I'll probably buy it, I need a good Wii game, I havn't played mine since I 100% beat Twilight Princess (20 hearts max rupees all chests, all poes all bottles, ect. 20 hearts seemed much easier than OOT).

I got it today, and played for around two hours already. It's great so far, and even though I dislike the Wii controller this game makes good use of it. I have a few minor nitpicks though...

  • The opening seemed to be trying hard to create some epic space opera feel with the galactic federation people and voice acting and whatnot. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it seems somewhat out of place in a series that emphasizes isolation.
  • Switching to the scan visor felt slightly awkward, especially when I wanted to scan an enemy and was being shot at.
  • Why do I need to flick the controller to jump in morph ball form? Couldn't they just use the Z button?
