Mewtwo (GP 2/2)

Let's get this through GP faster than Deoxys-S can use Extremespeed =)

[Overview]

<p>Mewtwo, the original Uber. Sporting immense Special Attack, an elite Speed stat, reasonable bulk, superb coverage, and a movepool chock full of auxiliary moves, Mewtwo is one of the dominating forces in the Uber tier. This generation, Mewtwo gained a powerful new STAB move in Psystrike, hitting many Ubers on their weaker defensive stat and sweeping right through its old nemeses, Chansey and Blissey. Mewtwo's combination of power and coverage is so strong that many teams are forced to revenge kill it. If prodigious special sweeping power isn't what you're looking for, Mewtwo can also put its bulk and support options to work with a defensive set. Its weak typing and lack of resistances bite, but its ability to spread burns, put up screens, and pack a very fast Taunt still makes Mewtwo a difficult wall to break. Fear Mewtwo, for it is one of the best Pokemon in the game, and arguably the best special sweeper.</p>

[SET]
name: Psycho Killer
move 1: Psystrike
move 2: Fire Blast / Aura Sphere
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Calm Mind
item: Life Orb
nature: Timid
ability: Pressure
evs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 HP

[SET COMMENTS]

<p>"Simple" may be the first adjective to come to mind when discussing this set, but "strong" isn't too far behind. Once Mewtwo finds an opportunity to sneak in a Calm Mind, its massive Special Attack, Speed, and coverage will do the rest. Unless the opponent has one of the very few checks to Mewtwo, he will probably lose at least one Pokemon.</p>

<p>The EVs are as simple as the set's concept. It is unfortunate to lose the Special Attack boost from a Modest nature, but with Darkrai, Shaymin-S, and Arceus lurking in the speed tiers right below, Mewtwo really has no choice but to go with Timid. The chosen moves give Mewtwo the best coverage in general. Psystrike works as a generic STAB move and is Mewtwo's best attack against Chansey, Blissey, Kyogre, and Ho-Oh. Ice Beam hits Lugia and the Giratina formes hard, while Fire Blast / Aura Sphere thrashes steel types that resist Psychic and Ice. The choice between Fire Blast and Aura Sphere depends on the threats you need to cover. Fire Blast will put the hurt on Jirachi, Bronzong, and Metagross while Aura Sphere dents Dialga, Tyranitar, Heatran, and Dark Arceus. It is worth noting however that Fire Blast is boosted by sun and weakened by rain. Depending on what weather you expect to battle in, you might want to emphasize or forgo Fire Blast. Finally, should coverage be your primary concern, you can use all four attacks without Calm Mind.</p>

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

<p>Mewtwo has a legion of coverage options, and every move should be carefully considered. While the moves given in the main set offer the best coverage in general, if you need to cover any specific threat, you can. Shadow Ball can be used to hit other Mewtwo while maintaining coverage against Lugia and the Giratina formes, while Grass Knot can be used to destroy Kyogre and Groudon (although not Manaphy). Should rain be expected, Thunder is a noteworthy option, bashing Kyogre's and Lugia's heads in to go along with a handy paralysis chance. If electric coverage is desired but rain support unavailable, Thunderbolt is a perfectly good replacement.</p>

<p>If you are using Fire Blast, it may be wise to have Groudon on the same team. Not only does the sun boost Mewtwo's Fire Blast, it also removes the rain an opposing Kyogre might bring. Mewtwo is vulnerable to all entry hazards, and Toxic Spikes in particular wears down Mewtwo quickly. As such, a Toxic Spikes absorber or spinner is a good investment. Forretress can Rapid Spin as well as lay down hazards of its own, while Tentacruel, Venusaur and Poison Arceus can absorb Toxic Spikes. Depending on the coverage moves chosen, Mewtwo will have trouble with certain Pokemon. A full list is given in the Checks and Counters section below. Solid answers to all these Pokemon are recommended. Finally, many teams rely on Choice Scarfed Pokemon to revenge kill Mewtwo. As such, paralysis support coming from Pokemon such as Grass Arceus and Jirachi can be very useful. Wobbuffet can also trap and remove Choice Scarfers, paving the way to a clean sweep.</p>

[SET]
name: Bulky Attacker
move 1: Psystrike
move 2: Fire Blast / Aura Sphere
move 3: Substitute / Ice Beam / Recover
move 4: Calm Mind / Substitute
item: Leftovers
nature: Timid
ability: Pressure
evs: 204 HP / 252 Spe / 52 SpA

[SET COMMENTS]

<p>So similar to the Psycho Killer, yet also subtly different, this set trades off immediate power for the ability to set up on more Pokemon. Mewtwo can take its pick of coverage moves, set up moves and recovery. With 204 HP EVs, Mewtwo reaches 404 HP, which is enough to fend off Night Shade and Seismic Toss with Substitute. It can then proceed to Calm Mind, or simply wait for a critical hit or freeze / burn. Mewtwo's Substitutes are also strong enough to withstand weaker attacks, and Pokemon such as Dialga are unable to break Mewtwo's Substitutes after a harsh Special Attack drop from Draco Meteor or Overheat. Substitute also lets Mewtwo scout its counters, dodge status moves and Leech Seed, and defend itself from revenge killing. Even unboosted, Mewtwo's attacks are strong, so Recover can be used with Substitute for extra resilience.</p>

<p>The choice of coverage moves is up to you, but each option leaves its own weaknesses, especially if you choose to use only two attacks. Just be careful to have an answer to every Pokemon you cannot beat on your team. Once again, losing to Shaymin-S, Darkrai, and Arceus carries serious consequences, so Mewtwo must run maximum Speed with a Timid nature.</p>

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

<p>This bulky set is fairly versatile, and the EVs and moves can be molded to your needs. If you only intend to scout for counters with Substitute, the HP EVs can be shifted to Special Attack. If maintaining coverage is more important than breaking through walls, you can give up Calm Mind. If status is not a concern, Recover can be used with or without Calm Mind. The only caveat is to be aware of Mewtwo's weaknesses. For example, without Calm Mind Mewtwo cannot break through Chansey without a critical hit, while without Substitute, Dialga can threaten Thunder Wave. Ideally, your team should be able to handle these threats in addition to those caused by this set's weaker coverage. More so than the Psycho Killer, this set is weak to Toxic Spikes, so a spinner or a grounded Poison-type is strongly recommended.</p>

[SET]
name: Support (StallTwo)
move 1: Taunt
move 2: Recover
move 3: Will-O-Wisp / Toxic
move 4: Light Screen / Psystrike
item: Leftovers
nature: Timid
evs: 252 HP / 80 SpD / 176 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

<p>It might surprise some that Mewtwo can run an effective defensive set. After all, its bulk is nowhere near that of Giratina's or Lugia's, and its defensive typing gives it few usable resistances. However, access to Taunt, Light Screen, and Will-O-Wisp allow Mewtwo both to stall and break stall through using its moves alone.</p>

<p>Taunt, coupled with Mewtwo's high speed stat, stops Arceus and all slower Pokemon from setting up on Mewtwo. Not only does this mean that threats like Dialga cannot set up freely before breaking through, it stops them from inflicting status on Mewtwo or setting up Substitute to dodge Mewtwo's own status. Recover is obvious for prolonging Mewtwo's longevity, while the choice of status is up to you. Will-O-Wisp is usually preferable because it cushions Mewtwo's weaker defensive stat, but Toxic will kill targets faster. In the last slot, Light Screen takes up where Will-O-Wisp leaves off, beefing up Mewtwo's ability to take special attacks, while Psystrike gives Mewtwo an attacking option if necessary.</p>

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

<p>The given EVs grant Mewtwo maximum bulk while still allowing it to outspeed Arceus. The EVs emphasize Special Defense, but they can be invested into Defense instead as well. With its fine HP stat, Mewtwo tops out at 416 HP, more than enough to conjure Substitutes that cannot be broken with Night Shade and Seismic Toss. If outspeeding Arceus is not necessary, more Speed EVs can be shifted to Special Defense. Going the other way, Mewtwo can run enough Speed to outrun Shaymin-S and Darkrai. However, a Taunted Darkai can still demolish Mewtwo with Dark Pulse, while defeating Shaymin-S is no easy task without Psystrike.</p>

<p>Although it conflicts with Will-O-Wisp, Toxic Spikes can be a great boon to this Mewtwo, allowing it to set up its defensive attacks without needing to status the opponent. With Taunt preventing all attempts at healing or relieving status, poison from Toxic Spikes can quickly accumulate. StallTwo's worst foes are those that can strike it hard enough to demolish its defenses, such as Kyogre or Darkrai, and Pokemon that are immune to burn, such as Ho-Oh and Victini. Solid checks to all these Pokemon are recommended. Palkia is one of the best checks to Kyogre around and quadruply resists Fire as well. Kyogre and Ho-Oh can live a boosted Dark Pulse from Darkrai and strike back for the kill, while Rock Arceus resists both of Ho-Oh's STABs and can retaliate with Judgment. StallTwo has problems with Choice Scarfed Pokemon as well. Similar to the Psycho Killer, Wobbuffet can trap and remove Choice Scarfed Pokemon, while Pokemon such as Jirachi and Grass Arceus can spread paralysis, hopefully disabling them. Toxic Spikes is again extremely detrimental to StallTwo, and either an absorber or spinner is recommended.</p>

[Other Options]

<p>Mewtwo's wide movepool easily gives it many other options. A Dual Screen set is among the most noteworthy of these, using Mewtwo's very fast Taunt as well as access to Selfdestruct to distinguish itself from the other Dual Screeners. Specifically, Taunt disables Substitute and sleep-inducing moves such as Dark Void, while Selfdestruct allows Mewtwo to bring in a sweeper or Baton Passer safely. Mewtwo can also use a Choice item, but it will often want to switch moves. It's worth noting however that Choice Scarf Mewtwo will outspeed Deoxys-S and all the unboosted metagame with it. Mewtwo can use Barrier and Amnesia to boost its defensive stats before attempting a sweep. However, it must give up a fair bit of coverage to do this. Finally, Mewtwo can use a Bulk Up set, but its special movepool and Special Attack are both superior to their physical counterparts.</p>

[Checks and Counters]

<p>Very few Pokemon can claim to safely wall Mewtwo. The closest thing to a counter is specially defensive Dark Arceus, who can survive Mewtwo's Aura Sphere and KO back with Payback. The damage it takes is still severe though, so it must be carefully conserved for this purpose. Psychic Arceus is a reasonably safe choice, but sun-boosted Fire Blast will leave a mark, and if Mewtwo has Shadow Ball then Psychic Arceus will lose. Specially defensive Giratina is capable of taking a boosted Ice Beam, but can do nothing in return except phaze Mewtwo. If it is raining, Jirachi, Bronzong and Metagross all do a fine job of handling Mewtwo. Jirachi in particular can even use U-turn as Mewtwo switches out to buy his team momentum.</p>

<p>In neutral weather, walling Mewtwo depends on which moves Mewtwo has. If Mewtwo does not have Psystrike, Ho-Oh (if it avoids Stealth Rock), Kyogre, Chansey, and Blissey can handle Mewtwo. Without Ice Beam, Lugia and both Giratina formes do a fine job, although sun-boosted Fire Blast will severely damage Lugia. Without Aura Sphere, Heatran, Tyranitar, and Dialga can take a hit and strike back. Finally, without Fire Blast, Jirachi, Psychic Arceus, defensive Ghost Arceus, Bronzong, and Metagross give Mewtwo a hard time.</p>

<p>In the worst case scenario, a faster Pokemon can revenge kill Mewtwo. Scarf Kyogre is powerful enough to KO Mewtwo even after it has used Calm Mind, while physical Choice Scarfers such as Zekrom and Victini can punch through Mewtwo's unboosted Defense stat. Choice Scarf Hydreigon is immune to Psystrike and can threaten Dark Pulse should Mewtwo stay in, or U-turn should it switch out. Finally, Normal Arceus and Giratina-O can hit Mewtwo hard with priority. Although neither can OHKO, both are capable of surviving an unboosted hit to attack twice. Choice Band Scizor can also revenge kill a weakened Mewtwo, but cannot survive Fire Blast.</p>

[Dream World]

<p>Unnerve is not a powerful offensive ability, but it's still more useful than Pressure. Offensive Mewtwo should use it if it's ever released, bypassing random threats such as Wacan Berry Manaphy, Chople Berry Tyranitar and Yache Berry Garchomp. It also prevents Mewtwo from getting revenge killed by Custap Berry Wobbuffet. Defensive Mewtwo on the other hand is still better off with Pressure. Not only are Psychic-resist berries essentially non-existent, StallTwo does not need to OHKO its foes, and disintegrating the PP of moves such as Extremespeed and Sacred Fire with Pressure is more useful.</p>

<p>It's also worth noting that Choice Scarf Shadow Tag Chandelure can trap and destroy Mewtwo with sun-fueled Overheat in the Dream World. Chandelure cannot, however, switch directly into Mewtwo.</p>

[Overview]
- Massive SpA, superb speed tier as well
- One of the best Pokemon in the game, and arguably the best sweeper
- Very difficult to wall, most teams rely on revenge killing it
- bad typing though

[SET]
name: Psycho Killer
move 1: Psystrike
move 2: Fire Blast / Aura Sphere
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Calm Mind
item: Life Orb
nature: Timid
ability: Pressure
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[Set Comments]
- Go blow things up with your 1337 coverage and SpA
- And Calm Mind!

[Additional Comments]
- No choice but to run Timid, because losing to Darkrai and Shaymin-S and ARCEUS are very big drawbacks
- Your call on which attacks to run. Psystrike lets Mewtwo sweep through the pink blobs as well as hit Kyogre / Ho-oh on their weaker defense stats, but if you prefer other coverage options by all means go ahead
- Aura Sphere or Fire Blast ploughs through Steel types, Fire Blast nerfed by rain though (and boosted by sun)
- LO + 4 attacks mention

[SET]
name: Bulky attacker
move 1: Psystrike
move 2: Fire Blast / Aura Sphere
move 3: Ice Beam / Recover / Substitute
move 4: Calm Mind / Substitute
item: Leftovers
nature: Timid
ability: Pressure
evs: 204 HP / 252 Spe / 52 SpA

[Set Comments]
- Now you set up on more things =)

[Additional Comments]
- Recover can be used with Sub; even unboosted Mewtwo's attacks are fairly strong BUT you will not muscle through your checks for sure now and your coverage is significantly weaker
- 404 Subs!

[SET]
name: Support (Stalltwo)
move 1: Taunt
move 2: Recover
move 3: Will-O-Wisp / Toxic
move 4: Substitute / Light Screen / Psystrike
item: Leftovers
nature: Timid
evs: 252 HP / 80 SpD / 176 Spe

[Set Comments]
- go wall stuff with your decent defensive stats and very fast Taunt
- and burn stuff!

[Additional Comments]
- Light Screen + WoW amps up both your defensive stats
- 404 Subs, break walls
- Given EVs beat out Arceus, but can pick any other speed tier to shoot for
- Toxic Spikes =(

[Other Options]
- DS set
- Superb coverage, Mewtwo gets all the best special moves. Thunder / Thunderbolt, Grass Knot, Fire Blast / Flamethrower, Ice Beam, Psystrike, Shadow Ball: Mewtwo has all the coverage it could ever want. Pick and manage!
- Bulk Up
- Barrier and Amnesia

[Checks and Counters]
- Very few Pokemon can really wall Mewtwo
- Dark Arceus
- Psychic Arceus if it's not sunny
- If it's raining, Jirachi, Metagross and Bronzong do a good job
- depending on its movepool a few more Pokemon can take it on. If it's missing Fire Blast, Skarmory, Jirachi, Metagross, Bronzong, bulky Ghost Arceus can handle it. Without Ice Beam, Lugia and both Giratinas can handle it. Without Aura Sphere, Heatran, Dialga and Tyranitar can handle it. Without Psystrike, Chansey, Blissey and to some extent Ho-oh can handle it.
- revenge kill it with something faster, e.g. Scarf Kyogre can OHKO it even at +1, Deoxys-A, Scarf Zekrom, etc

I think put Psytrike, Ice Beam and Aura Sphere / Fire Blast as the main option. Substitute and Recover should be on other sets. Mewtwo wants Calm Mind as the main option too since it's his best set, the Psycho Killer or whatever name it is. Mention Thunder beats Scarf Kyogre for the OHKO and smacks Lugia hard.

Without Fire Blast, Jirachi, Psychic Arceus, Defensive Ghost Arceus, Bronzong and Metagross give you a hard time.

Should you drop Ice Beam, Giratina will be your main defensive threat. Lugia will be annoying too if the weather isn't sunny. You need Ice Beam for the guaranteed OHKO on Giratina-O too at +1. Giratina doesn't die to Psytrike that easily. Both Lugia and Giratina will still survive a +1 Ice Beam and phaze you out though unless they are already weakened.

Without Aura Sphere, Heatran, Tyranitar and possibly Dialga in non favourable weather conditions are problematic.

Stalltwo wants more Speed! Seriously outspeeding Garchomp isn't enough this gen. Even Terrakion outspeeds you now and so will most Arceus versions. Outspeeding them allows you to Taunt, burn, set up screens or Recover off the damage first.

Mention Scarf Victini as possibly the best counter to both sets, and it is also immune to burn! V-create OHKOes you regardless of CM boosts. Scarf Zekrom can also revenge you reliably. Hydreigon gets a special mention by being immune to Psytrike and has Dark Pulse + U-Turn. Giratina-O and Arceus can revenge with Priority and both can survive unboosted hits.

This is Mewtwo anyway and Jibaku already accepted it on IRC...

trickroom your familiarity with all the more obscure Pokemon in Ubers is astonishing @_@

I'm going to go immediately into writing because I don't have much time, but in the meantime I'll split the special attacker set into two: one with Calm Mind + 3 attacks, and a bulkier variant with Sub / CM / Recover / different EV spreads etc. Will also change the EV spread on StallTwo, I actually used that spread because it's on the Underrated Ubers Smog article but yeah I can't imagine Mewtwo not outspeeding Arceus. Thanks for fast approval, and shame on Jibaku for logging off IRC 30 seconds before I wrote this up -____-

Lets get this done !

-On the Psycho Killer set, I think Aura Sphere should probably be slashed with Ice Beam instead of Fire Blast since when using Sun teams, Fire Blast is pretty mandatory imo, otherwise a crap load of Pokemon wall you and Revenge kill you like Trickroom said.

-Does bulky attacker set really deserve a separate set ? Wouldn't it be just enough to give a paragraph in AC. Also do you really need all that HP ? Mewtwo uses Substitute to mainly scout for checks. So making 404 Substitutes seems unnecessary. You anyway beat Chansey / Blissey just by packing Taunt or predicting Status.

-As checks, mention Ghost Arceus can check Mewtwo quite well in Rain. Psystrike fails to 2HKO while Judgment usually KOes after LO recoil. Also many people run some Defense on Ghost Arceus to specifically deal with Mewtwo.

-Mention some partners to Mewtwo specifically stuff that take on Giratina-O and Dark Arceus well such as Heatran and Dialga. (nothing really takes on Ghost Arceus well ;-;)

Thats all could spot. Once you get this written up, I'll look through this again.

I remember saying this in the last Mewtwo thread that firecape made, too: Mewtwo is more versatile than this. Yes, Psycho Killer is absolutely awesome and makes everything else look like shit. However, that doesn't mean they are not viable.

Have you tried:
- Dual Screens - Difference between Mewtwo and Deoxys-S is 1) more bulk and 2) access to a suicide move so you can give your sweeper a free switch (Selfdestruct)
- Choice - Yeah, I remember Choice Specs was a deemed to be not worth it, but Scarf allows Mewtwo to outspeed virtually everything in Ubers of note and he has the movepool to revenge all of them too, aside from the obvious ExtremeKiller. Something like:

[SET]
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Psystrike
move 2: Fire Blast
move 3: Ice Beam / Thunder
move 4: Aura Sphere
item: Choice Scarf
nature: Timid
ability: Pressure
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Pursuit isn't very common in Ubers, either. Just something to think about. I'm away for the next week, so I'm not going to be able to test them, so I trust that you'll be thorough with your testing. Also, Mewtwo needs a lot more meat in OO if you're only going to have two sets. What I want to see in OO:

- Dual Screens and Choice sets (if deemed not worthy)
- Bulk Up
- All out attacking (something like Psystrike / Aura Sphere / Fire Blast / Ice Beam, without Calm Mind)
- Taunt
- Other random stuff like Barrier, Amnesia, etc

Also, I personally think that Ice Beam shouldn't get a slot on its own on the Psycho Killer. Aura Sphere is indispensable. It allows you to OHKO Darkrai whenever you like, while you kill Dialga with it. I think Fire Blast / Ice Beam should be slashed together, with Fire Blast being the main slash. So what if it's nerfed in the rain, you still kill pretty much everything you need to with it even if it is raining (Scizor, Ferrothorn, Skarm). Lugia loses in the sun, while Giratina can't do shit to Mewtwo outside of phazing anyway.

EDIT: Counters - Scizor, Skarm and Jirachi if you're missing Fire Blast, Tyranitar and Dialga if missing Aura Sphere, Lugia and Giratina if missing Ice Beam. Giratina-O can take a +1 Psystrike and 2HKO with Shadow Sneak.

Lastly, you need to fix up the formatting for the EV spreads. They go in the order HP / Atk / Def / SpA / SpD / Spe.

First set is written, I'll hold off writing the bulkier variant though for the meantime while we sort it out. I'm beginning to think the two sets might be better combined, because there'll be a fair amount of repeated material in the bulky attacker set at the moment.

@barry4ever - Fire Blast is great but if you're on a rain team (or if you don't have Groudon) then it's not very reliable ... Aura Sphere is also an important attack, covering Heatran + Tyranitar + Dialga. I think both deserve serious mentions. Will mention the other things you brought up.

@shrang - I have not used it, but from my experience in other tiers + looking at my own teams, DS Mewtwo has some issues. Its only real asset is the fast Taunt. Otherwise by blowing yourself up, even with the Selfdestruct nerf this generation, you risk killing the opponent as well so they can bring in a counter, such as their own Taunt Mewtwo. Memento is a better self KO move, and Mewtwo unfortunately does not get it. Taunt though should still be enough to warrant a DS set for Mewtwo (it's in Other Options at the moment).

Had a bit of a discussion about Choice Mewtwo on IRC, most people seemed to think that Mewtwo really loves being able to switch moves. Certainly from my experience using Mewtwo I found it important. I can give it a whirl but will need other QC input before including it.

Bulk Up Mewtwo is really really really weird. I've never seen one and never considered it too. Why would you use one though? Mewtwo's special movepool is so much stronger than its physical movepool, and it has a higher SpA to boot.

I will mention 4 attack + LO set (in fact I'll probably mention this in the Psycho Killer) as well as Taunt.

Finally about Ice Beam / Fire Blast / Aura Sphere order, not having Ice Beam means you can't touch Giratina-O in addition to Lugia and Giratina. Lugia might be KOed eventually in the sun but let's not forget that Fire Blast has only 8 PP and Lugia has Pressure. You can go for another Calm Mind, but then it becomes a 50/50 risk. Giratina can only phaze but STAB Dragon Tail still does a fair amount and Mewtwo is vulnerable to all hazards, so ... I can agree that Aura Sphere is an extremely important move, but so are the other two. Need QC input on the order.

I'll write up some Other Options and Checks and Counters next.

whitout aura sphere mewtwo is completely defeated by darkrai, why not a 4-attaks set with psystrike, fire blast, ice beam and aura sphere?

Lugia is near OHKOed with +1 Fire Blast in the sun, IIRC, so it isn't beating Mewtwo in the sun, ever.

About DS Mewtwo, I personally like the Selfdestruct nerf because without much attack investment, you can actually blow up without killing anything, unless they sack their Deo-A or something, giving you a free switch-in.

Bulk Up Mewtwo is shit, and I know it is. That's why I said mention it in OO, it's definitely not analysis material, but if you really want to be different, you could run it just for the sake of it.

Fixed and mentioned everything, as well as written up the rest of the analysis. LO + 4 attacks is mentioned in the Psycho Killer. Should DS Mewtwo get its own set? Need QC input on that one.

I've played like 3 games with StallTwo, so the writeup is probably premature. If someone has a good team with StallTwo on it, please share it!

I got a few nitpicks as well!

Stalltwo
• Substitute needs to go. Stalltwo doesn't need Substitute at all, Light Screen or Psystrike are by far more useful. Also I'm rather iffy on Toxic as well, but I suppose that could work. I'd also opt to outrun Terrakion, you're wasting too much EVs on outrunning Arceus.

Checks and Counters
• No mention of Giratina-o at all? Giratina-o is Mewtwo's best check ever.

I have no idea where but I feel Taunt should be slashed onto the bulky attacker set, I still remember someone trolling me with Sub + Taunt + Tspikes + Recover + Ice Beam on shoddy in 4th gen, can't recall the user name though. Tried it in 5th gen and it still works.

In a similar sense, pairing stall 2 with tspikes allows it to run Reflect over WoW, as it does a pretty good job of trolling with both. I feel that should be given a mention also since Mewtwo with its speed is more then capable of causing massive residual damage build.

Adding to counters list, SpD Giratina-a stomachs all of Mewtwo's attacks (INCLUDING ICE BEAM, 57.65% - 67.99% it switches in on CM and instantly phazes thats with LO and timid) and can phaze the thing out. Also status it with WoW, can even use Roar to bypass Bulky two if it lacks Taunt. Unlike Lugia it completely avoids the OHKO factor with rocks.

Mention Tspikes annoy / destroy all Mewtwo variants also!

It's great to see this being picked up on though!

ALSO GOOD STALL 2 team?

I feel the spread of 252 HP / 224 SDef / 32 Spe (with timid) should get an AC mention if not in the original stall 2 set, since it grants Mewtwo tons of bulk while still enabling him to outspeed all base 102's (Garchomp).

Substitute should be the first slash on Mewtwo's Bulky set, or else it's just an inferior attacking Mewtwo. Being able to Sub up on stuff like Support Giratina, Dragon Tail Dialga (after Draco Meteor), and other -2 attackers makes Substitute indispensable on Mewtwo. My favorite set is subCM Psycho Nuke and Ice Beam, though that's preference.

Yeah I'm not sure what Substitute is doing on StallTwo set - even as I was writing it yesterday, I couldn't figure out a reason. Like, sure, it dodges status effects, but so too does Taunt. Dragon Tail I suppose, but that seems unimportant compared to being able to buff up your own SpD or have an attacking option. I don't have enough experience with StallTwo yet to come to a conclusion myself either, but then somebody (*hint hint*) put that exact same set on the Underrated Uber Movesets Smog article, so ...

Giratina-O and EK Arceus are actually mentioned in the writeup, although not in the skeleton. Apologies for that.

Shadow Ball is mentioned in AC at the moment. It's only good for hitting other Mewtwo and the odd Psychic Arceus / Deoxys-D, though, but it maintains coverage on the Giratinas and Lugia.

Will mention everything else.

<p>Mewtwo, the original Uber.

It is unfortunate to give up on lose the Special Attack boost from a Modest nature, but with Darkrai, Shaymin-S and Arceus lurking in the speed tiers below, Mewtwo really has no choice but to go with Timid. The chosen moves give Mewtwo the best coverage in general. Psystrike works as a generic STAB move, and is Mewtwo's best attack against the pink blobs, Chansey and Blissey, as well as Kyogre and Ho-Oh. Ice Beam hits Lugia and the Giratina formes hard, while Fire Blast / Aura Sphere thrashes steel types that resist Psychic and Ice. The choice between Fire Blast and Aura Sphere depends on the threats you need to cover. Fire Blast will put the hurt on Jirachi, Bronzong, and Metagross, while Aura Sphere dents Dialga, Tyranitar, Heatran, and Dark Arceus.

<p>Mewtwo's coverage options are legion Mewtwo has many alternative coverage options, and every move should be carefully considered. Should rain be expected, Thunder is a noteworthy option, bashing Kyogre's and Lugia's heads in to go dealing severe damage to Kyogre and Lugia along with a handy paralysis chance. If electric coverage is desired but the rain not expected, Thunderbolt is a perfectly good replacement.</p>

<p>If you are using Fire Blast, it may be wise to have Groudon on the same team. Not only does the sun boost Mewtwo's Fire Blast, it also removes the rain an opposing Kyogre might bring. While Mewtwo is vulnerable to all entry hazards, Toxic Spikes in particular wear down Mewtwo quickly. Wobbuffett can also trap and remove Choice Scarfers, paving the way to a clean sweep.</p>

[SET]

move 3: Substitute / Ice Beam / Recover
move 4: Calm Mind / Substitute
item: Leftovers
nature: Timid

evs: 204 HP / 252 Spe / 52 SpA

[Set Comments]
<p>So similar to the Psycho Killer, yet also subtly different, ... this set trades off immediate power for the ability to set up on more Pokemon.

Once again, losing to Shaymin-S, Darkrai, and Arceus carry carries serious consequences, so maximum Speed with a Timid nature is forced on Mewtwo.</p>

For example, without Calm Mind, Mewtwo cannot break through Chansey without a critical hit, while without Substitute, Dialga can threaten Thunder Wave. Ideally, your team should be able to handle these threats in addition to those caused by this set's weaker coverage. Toxic Spikes really puts the hurt on this Mewtwo as well, so once again a spinner or absorber is helpful. This set is particularly weak to Toxic Spikes, so a user of Rapid Spin or a grounded Poison-type is strongly recommended.</p>

[SET]
name: Support (Stalltwo)
move 1: Taunt
move 2: Recover
move 3: Will-O-Wisp / Toxic
move 4: Light Screen / Psystrike
item: Leftovers
nature: Timid
evs: 252 HP / 80 SpD / 176 Spe

[Set Comments]
<p>It might surprise some that Mewtwo can run an effective defensive set. After all, its bulk is nowhere near that of Giratina's or Lugia's, and its defensive typing gives it few usable resistances. However, access to Taunt, Light Screen, and Will-O-Wisp allow Mewtwo both to break stall and stall itself stall, and to break stall.through sheer brute force. At least I think that's what you were going for, I'm not completely certain though.</p>

<p>Taunt, coupled with Mewtwo's high speed stat, stops Arceus and all slower Pokemon from setting up on Mewtwo. Not only does this mean that threats like Dialga cannot set up freely before breaking through, it stops them from statusing inflicting status upon Mewtwo or setting up Substitute to dodge Mewtwo's own status. Recover is obvious for prolonging Mewtwo's longevity, while the choice of status is up to you. Will-O-Wisp is usually preferable because it cushions Mewtwo's weaker defensive stat, but Toxic will kill targets faster. In the last slot, Light Screen takes up where Will-O-Wisp leaves off, beefing up Mewtwo's ability to take special attacks, while Psystrike allows Mewtwo an attacking option should it be needed.</p>

[Additional Comments]
<p>The given EVs grant Mewtwo maximum bulk while still allowing it to outspeed Arceus. The EVs emphasize Special Defense, but they be invested into Defense instead there are some to increase Mewtwo's Defense as well. With its fine HP stat, Mewtwo tops out at 416 HP, more than enough to conjure Substitutes that cannot be broken with by Night Shade and Seismic Toss.

Toxic Spikes is again extremely detrimental to Stalltwo, and either an absorber or spinner is recommended.</p> Be consistent with the name of the set - is it StallTwo or Stalltwo?

[Other Options]
<p>Mewtwo's wide movepool easily brings gives it many other options to the table. Mewtwo learns Barrier and Amnesia, and can use them to boost its defensive stats before attempting a sweep.

Without Ice Beam, Lugia, and both Giratina formes do a fine job, although sun-boosted Fire Blast will severely damage Lugia.

<p>In the worst case scenario, a faster Pokemon can be used to revenge kill Mewtwo. Scarf Kyogre is powerful enough to KO Mewtwo even after it has used Calm Mind, while physical Choice Scarfers such as Zekrom and Victini can punch through Mewtwo's unboosted Defense stat. Choice Scarf Hydreigon is immune to Psystrike and can threaten Dark Pulse should Mewtwo stay in as well as U-turn should it switch out.

StallTwo's worst foes are those that can strike it hard enough to demolish its defenses, such as Kyogre or Darkrai, and Pokemon that are immune to burn, such as Ho-oh Ho-Oh and Victini. Solid checks to all these Pokemon are recommended. Palkia is one of the best checks to Kyogre around and quadruple resists Fire as well. Kyogre and Ho-oh Ho-Oh can live a boosted Dark Pulse from Darkrai and strike back for the kill, while Rock Arceus resists both of Ho-oh's Ho-Oh's STABs and can retaliate with Judgment.

(Add space)

(Add space)
If it is raining, Jirachi, Bronzong and Metagross handle Mewtwo well. Jirachi can even use U-turn as Mewtwo switches out to buy his team momentum.</p>

Choice Scarf Hydreigon is immune to Psystrike and can threaten Mewtwo with Dark Pulse or U-Turn as Mewtwo flees.

This check already has Steven Snype's check implemented.
Also, wherever I said (Add Space), you should leave space between the two lines.
It should look like:

Also, it's Ho-Oh not Ho-oh. So, if I missed any, you should change them.
EDIT: You're missing a Dream World section.

Just saying, Scizor beats all Psycho Killers that lack Fire Blast since U-turn OHKOs.
