Mimikyu is a great sweeper
I went 6-0 or 5-0 with mimikyu. Disguise is very handy for setup. My set:
Mimikyu@Aerodactylite
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs:252 Atk/252 Spe/4 SpD
Adamant Nature
-Swords Dance
-Wood Hammer
-Play Rough
-Shadow Sneak
First set up using Swords dance. Disguise protects you so no worries. Then mega evolve and Attack.
Also what is the Dragonite Set everyone is talking about? Can someone share it with me?
Thank You.
I've seen that set a bunch as well. Personally,I'd advise running Shadow Claw over wood hammer; Ghost/Fairy is perfect bar Pyroar and Red Orb Normal Types, and not killing yourself with recoil is nice.
If you use a Mega Stone or Orb that gives you a secondary typing that's the same as your primary typing, you no longer have a secondary typing (ie: Red Orb Charizard)
I've been using Pinsirite Gyarados, and it still has its Water-typing after Mega Evolving, despite Water being its secondary typing, which would be replaced by Flying. Am I misinterpreting this rule, or is this a mistake?

Ok so I was able to play the meta a bit more and I think I can finally leave some of my opinions on things that should be looked at:
This thing is still as ridiculous as it was before. Yes it does not have access to Pixilate anymore which was very good on it, but Pinsirite and Salamencite still just push this thing over the edge imo. With DD + Electric Coverage (I prefer Thunder to beat Skarm), it can really be so difficult to stop and it also has an easier time to sweep without the fear of pixie espeed coming of from Entei and Arcanine anymore. It really just demolishes offense and can beat bulkier teams with Substitute + Dragon Dance as well. Please suspect.
I also don't understand why this thing got unbanned as well. Sablenite also just makes this thing just incredibly ridiculous. Calm Mind + Toxic Cress just steamrolls through teams and really does not even need much support tbh. It can be incredibly hard to actually stop this thing after it gets a couple of boosts. Not much has changed from ORAS and Cress just really limits teambuilding in a sense as I have seen teams relying on Toxic Mold Breaker or PerishTrap Mega Gar just to beat it. Suspect this as well.
Also Golisspod is amazing and Darkrai aint that bad without Pidgeotite. The meta is kinda stale tho without the rest of the stones :/
Theres probably a pokemon for this that i missed but i was looking for a way to counter lucarionite tapu lele and i found venusaurite alolan-muk.
252 SpA Adaptability Tapu lele Moonblast vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Muk: 150-178 (36.3 - 43%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
8 Atk Muk Gunk Shot vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu lele: 362-428 (128.8 - 152.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
8 Atk Muk Poison Jab vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu lele: 242-288 (86.1 - 102.4%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO
Poison jab works if you have stealth rock. At least until pokebank comes out, this guy seems to work nicely in stopping lele, and he resists fire, ice, grass, ghost, poison and a fair few others things if lele isn't on the opponents team so he's not a wasted team slot.
I'm bringing some good news for once! Mix and Mega now has a council. I was hesitant to create one earlier because I didn't know who would stay active, but I'm comfortable in the choices I've made. I want Mix and Mega to be transparent, so here's how we are doing the council!
Each council member manages a branch of Mix and Mega. Metagames are better managed when each branch functions independently of one another, it is each council members responsibility to upkeep their branch. Mix and Mega is a large metagame and we're only getting started - in the future there will be checks compendium, viability ranking(s), sample teams, suspect archives, art and much, much more.
I decide who is on the council, when and how suspect tests will be done, who is leader the various branches and overseeing them. I also oversee branches not currently occupied.
nv is the second council members, he will be leading the Viability rankings. One for mega stones and one for pokemon. If you're making a nomination tag NV.
Quantum Tesseract is the third council member, he will be leading the sample teams. If you post a team in this thread, tag Quantum Tesseract. If you don't want to post it here, pm it to him. If he is interested in your team he will ask you to elaborate on it.
Hit me up with a pm if you have some experience running one the aforementioned branches, especially art.

Sorry, are you seriously saying that you are forming a council and not letting them decide or even vote in suspects? Is this a fucking joke? Councils are good because leaders can make errors. Appointing 2 people to "council" and giving them no actual power is a joke. NV is not a council member, he's running the vr. Quantum is not a council member, he is maintaining sample teams. They have no say in the metagame, you're keeping it as a dictatorship and saying "omg look at this shiny new council". Sorry, but this is an awful idea. If QT and NV are deemed 'council worthy', put them as COUNCIL -- not as people who maintain two resources. And, for the record, your council should most likely have 5 or 7 people if you can get the qualified people. I understand you want the power, and I do believe you genuinely attempt to do the best for the metagame, but you are flawed as we all are and this is dumb. You made a good step in saying there's a council: now actually make one!

The time for quick-bans are over so all remaining bans will be via suspect tests, not quick bans. Suspect tests are community votes, therefore council members (myself included) will have to reach reqs like everyone else. Sorry if this wasn't clear. The council will agree when we do suspect something, but it wont be us three (four, five ect) voting, it will be a community decision. I feel like that's the best way to do this, let the community decide on suspect tests because I don't foresee quick-bans being a big part of Mix and Mega, especially with the limited Mega Stones. To put your mind at ease I can change to policy so Quick-bans need 100% approval from all council members. You can be a council member and run the VR/Samples at the same time, they aren't mutually exclusive.
It's a different type of council, one where the work is divided. Dividing up the work allows us to focus on one thing each, instead of me dividing my attention amongst Viability ranking(s), sample teams, checks compendium because not only would it exhaust me but it would also be subpar and that's not good enough for Mix and Mega.
Before saying my piece on the council and all of that, let me just talk about some analyses of what I've used....
Magearna: This one surpised me the most with how good it was. It gets walled by Primal Groudon, but that's where the bad points end. I was initially quite sad that Latiasite was unusable, but then I found a set that might be even better than that. Regardless of the set, Magearna is quite powerful, and is able to handle massive chunks of the meta, including serving as an emergency Zygarde check. Also, Volt Switch is utterly delicious. Here's a set so that you can all use it, too.
Suicune: Still really solid, particularly at burning things you don't want to sweep you. Sablenite is what I feel is still the best stone for it. One thing that hasn't been said about Suicune is that its coverage options are actually pretty nice. Extrasensory is a pretty nice choice, too. You can always count on Suicune to take hits well...
Lurantis: The fact that I even used this can tell you that I'm brave. It's in a strange position in terms of Red Orb users since it doesn't have terrific bulk, which is also paired with awful speed. However, it is powerful as a mixed attacker, throwing Solar Blades and Weather Balls at your enemies. It's awful at defogging, though, given it has both subpar bulk and wants to smack things around badly. Lurantis is also vulnerable to Skarmory where something like Roserade isn't. If you're using this seriously, I would try using it in a Trick Room team.
Nihilego: Yet another surprise for me. I talked about it before pretty briefly, but the Slowbronite set is actually pretty good. Entei has problems versus it, given that they often lack Bulldoze. It's also helped out by the fact that Aggronite is unreleased as of now, meaning its two STABs can hit most non-Steel adversaries. Here's a set if you want to see it in action, too. Note that the EVs are a bit haphazard here... though it does turn out to have even defenses like this, which is cool.
As for the council... there doesn't necessarily need to be only one member to handle one task; the Viability Rankings are probably better off in the hands of two or three people...
Oh yeah, and didn't some of the council members also vote in the suspects (more particularly the Genesect one)? I understand it either way, though anybody that'll end up on the council will most likely be well-versed in Mix and Mega. Giving them a chance to voice their opinion here in the thread on suspects (which should be fairly frequent now, all things considered) would be appreciated by them.
...Not going to lie, most of the regulars here are suited for spots running this thread/on a council. It's certainly going to become larger, and that's not a bad thing.
tbh I don't mind who's on council as long as the meta's in good hands. But yeah the people on the council should be actually somewhat knowledgeable at the meta ideally. Though imo whether or not the council has free votes or not... Eh, maybe make sure they still have to work for it so they're not slacking, but honestly don't mind if they get free votes.
Groudon-Primal @ Red Orb
Ability: Desolate Land
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Precipice Blades
- Lava Plume
- Thunder Wave
This team is meant to clear out threats for Mimikyu or Gyarados to sweep. PDon can shut down fairy threats like Xern and set up rocks in order to make sweeping easier. Pheromosa and Tapu Koko are there to take down or weaken threats that either sweeper can't handle in one hit such as Sablenite walls. Mimikyu is one of the best sweepers in the tier as he can take an Aerilate Espeed from Dragonite and OHKO with a +2 Tough Claws Play Rough. Once physical walls are weakened he can go to town on them with his high attack stat and can take out threats that aren't too fast such as Charizard-X Regigigas.
Would this be how the sample team should look like?
Chegi post reminded me to ask, is aerodactylite or metagrossite better on mimikyu. I had aerodactylite because it had a bit more punch but i can see why more speed would be attractive. Whats more viable at the moment?

Should be added in a bit. Yes, thank you! I'd like recs, or at least the username, posted from people in the future if they laddered on an alt (The account Chegi has like 4 games), but this is well built so I'll allow it. I'd also suggest Foul Play>Knock Off.

So basically the premise behind the team was to abuse Calm Mind Cresselia cause that thing is really broken and it is honestly the best wincon stall could ask for at the moment. I started off with the classic SkarmBliss core since it is honestly the most reliable defensive core in MnM due to how well the two synergize with one another. Next I added Primal Groudon since its one of the best reliable blanket checks to a bunch of of threats including Red Orb Raikou, Blue Orb Golisspod, and of course the biggest threat of all in Geomancy Xerneas. It also is the most reliable Stealth Rock setter so yeah. I also wanted to try out Blue Orb Tapu Bulu as my Offensive Primal Groudon answer due to the fact that some Primal Groudon's carry Tbolt for Skarm. It also is rly nice at phazing out setup sweepers in Zygarde and Arceus-Normal because Grass / Fairy in conjunction with Heavy Rain is such a great defensive typing. Lastly, I went with a more unorthodox option and decided to run PerishTrap Mega Gengar to trap and take out specific threats that can really be a nuisance to the team such as Cresselia, Regigigas and Stallbreaker Mew. Its stall so it is a bit hard to use, but if you enjoy seeing your opponent ragequit then try this team out :)
Well, I still can't get over the feeling that my team is pretty bad, but I've managed to get to top 25 in ladder so I might as well post it here and ask for some improvements.
Diamond Dog (Raikou) @ Red Orb

EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Rash Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Def

- Hidden Power [Ice]
Ah, Raikou. Red Orb Raikou was an absolute beast back in Gen 6, and while it's not quite as good now for the role I liked to use it in, it still suffices. I generally use it as a lead, a kind of heavy artillery before the battle even starts. Weather Ball rips through much of the meta, there being very little that it doesn't 2H. The other moves are obvious coverage, but half the time I don't even need to click anything other than Weather Ball. Raikou has a dual advantage in that it's rather well suited to take out the terrible teams that reside at the very low ladder, but can still surprise a well-made team almost by sheer incompetence. At least, by the time three different switchins have been obliterated by Weather Ball, it tends to forfeit. Still, its utmost problem is just that it's too slow to really do its job, especially since it's forced into Rash and with the new mega evo speed changes.
Weavile is somewhat underwhelming (I'm still annoyed as to how Fake Out + Low Kick cannot get the kill on Regigigas) but functions solidly in its job, which is to kill everything with a weakness to Ice instantly. It's very fast and very strong. I never used Night Slash, so I replaced it with Swords Dance to help break through stall a little bit.
Dragonite is ridiculous in this meta. It's almost meta-defining. Not only is it a very strong revenge killer, but when it doesn't need to be, it can use Multiscale to easily set up a Dragon Dance and then tear through tons of things. Between it and Weavile, I generally don't have to worry about setup sweepers on the enemy team...unless psychic terrain is in effect.
I'm ambivalent about Darkrai; it certainly is very strong but I don't think it's a great fit for my team. I've just not really managed to get solid Nasty Plots off, which it really needs to properly smash through stuff.
Golisopod, on the other hand, is a very nice combination with Raikou. On the other hand, it does mean that physically, between the other members of my team, I do rely more on priority than high power. Still, Liquidation is no joke in rain, and Toxic is something I really need in this team.
I'm convinced I'm just bad with Cresselia. This set has had great success in defeating lots of things and especially picking out and killing particularly dangerous 'mon I can't otherwise deal with, but I just know it's got immense potential more than that. On the other hand, my playstyle has always been the antithesis of stall, so maybe that's why.
Overall, I'm pretty weak to Regigigas unless it's a bad one, and I don't do very well against P-Groudon, either. Those two are the main big threats to me right now, pretty much. Overall...I've always thought that my main skill in pokemon was having an instinctive grasp of how well a team meshes together (while I've always been worse than terrible at actually building sets), and I just don't feel it with this team. It doesn't coordinate very well together. On the other hand, taking out any one pokemon would mean I struggle significantly with one threat or the other. I'll probably end up building another team from scratch, but I just wanted to post this team as an example and to see what could be easily changed.
I haven't had much time to play but this team seems to win even when I'm just playing mindlessly. So far its 11-0, and I can probably keep it going for a while.

A few people have mentioned dragonite above so its not necessary to state why he is so incredibly good. The best part about the gen 7 shift is that he can stay in base form to keep multiscale but still get the speed boost on turn 2 like he would in gen 6.
Mimikyu is similar to dragonite in respects to almost always having a turn to set up. Ive been using aerodactylite, metagrossite is just as good, possibly better, but my team is fine with the speed tier of 117 rather than 137, and the extra attack is really nice.
Tapu lele's ability would have to be the most meta defining thing this generation, and the main reason teams are a bit more wary to run -ate speed. Of course ate speed also got worse with a drop in power and the lack of altarianite too. Psyshock and moonblast are obvious, shadow ball hits ghost types and toxic is just a filler really, focus blast can miss hit steel types if you need it, but this team doesn't struggle too much with them.
A great new blue orb user, golisopod loves losing emergency exit and gaining some special bulk. His ev's give him 301 health, which is a nice number for dealing with stealth rock and seismic toss. It also helps to have less investment in health and move in defense when using a draining move like leech life. One swords dance puts him at 986 attack, which is a 2hko on ferrothorn with leech life and he can 1hko blue orb skarmory 80% of the time with liquidation. Aqua jet can also ohko gengar at +2.
I posted a set above about alolan muk and after testing it I'm very impressed. He has great bulk and can take any special ice, fire, psychic, bug, dark, steel and grass moves without any worries. His main job is to counter Tapu lele but i actually haven't run into that many of them. running a sassy nature and fire blast means he can reliably steel types that don't carry a blue orb.
Nihilego is just a further way to beat -ate speeders. I was using scizorite but thats only because i forgot slowbronite was available. either way it has great mixed bulk and can set up stealth rock too.
Any rate on the team would be appreciated. I don't think its sample team material but feel free to add it if it seems good enough.

I made this team at the very beginning to test Pheromosa and Decidueye. The former is utterly broken, and the latter is good. Naturally, good wasn't good enough, so he was booted for Primal Groudon.
Pheromosa is just stupid. High Jump Kick does obscene damage to anything that doesn't resist, and can easily take down a worn-down team. U-Turn is there for the momentum you know and love (hate), Ice Beam smacks Landorus, Zygarde, and Garchomp, and Substitute is dumb if you predict either a Protect or a switch into death fodder. Don't worry if it just sits there on the bench unless you're revenging; that's a sign that you're using this team right.
Primal Groudon is also dumb, but not quite as much as the above. It serves the purpose as a stopgap solution to Zapdos, Xerneas, and a bunch of Water types. It can take the hits, and dish them out even rougher. Stone Edge smacks Skarmory and especially the Vensaurite Zapdos running around on good teams. There's some investment in Special defense to better handle Xerneas.
Zygarde is rather broken as well, thanks to its new addition in Thousand Arrows, meaning even Skarmory is not safe from this monster, and is here to serve as priority for the team, as well as another win condition. Pinsirite is obvious, and is a Dragon Dance variant to outspeed all those pesky Genesect if they decide to get cheeky about revenging this. Watch out for Weavile, though. Regardless of the Ice weakness, it sweeps bad teams at a dime a dozen, and can do the same to good teams with proper prep work.
Mimikyu is not broken, but is incredibly irritating to many would-be sweepers. It takes a hit, and either burns the opponent, retaliates, or just sets up if you're not threatened. It used to be Adamant, but being slower than Arceus by one point is very irritating.
Suicune is there as one of two blanket switches, and can be another win condition at times. It's fairly standard, with the exception of Extrasensory, which allows it to 1v1 Tokapex and win. You can run Air Slash or Ice Beam instead for little cost; Suicune's flexible in its secondary coverage. And with Red Orbs flying around, you want that coverage.
Magearna is very good as well. It's also very powerful, nearly taking out Dragonite through its Mulitscale. It also is a blanket switch to a STUPID amount of things. It can even finish off ENTEI, of all things, thanks to Thick Fat and Volt Switch. (It takes around 40% from a Sacred Fire) Ideally, you'll want to use this as a momentum switch in to one of your sweepers, but Primal Groudon is often in the way, so Fleur Cannon is a nice way to chip it down over time. Pain Split is the only healing move here, and is appreciated. You can run Toxic over it to make Primal Groudon's life miserable, though.
This team's incredible, ending up at a staggering 59-8, and earning victories over some of the strongest players on the ladder, and only became stronger over time of refining it slightly. I'm going to personally retire this team here, and continue to experiment to see what's out there now, waiting to be discovered...

Well that's pretty stupid. I understand why OU doesn't have the unreleased mega stones, but I can't really find any good reasons for Mix and Mega. Not only does it limit the metagame, but as an OM, it doesn't necessarily have to follow the same philosophy as official metagames. I mean, Balanced Hackmons allows the use of unreleased moves, so why can't mix and mega do the same? Is there any word official word from the tier leaders on why?

After contemplating and discussing it with scpinion, we decided not to allow unreleased stones. Allowing unreleased stones would open up the door to other OMs using unreleased stuff, which is not what we want. We want to maintain some resemblance to standard tiers and we don't want to give special treatment to one OM. It sucks, but this is the policy we feel is best.
Yeah, I've been using Lurantis. There are other Red Orb users that work better than it (at least in my opinion), but being able to run a mixed set along with a 66% recovery in the form of Synthesis is nice. I also didn't know it got Defog until this point, I'll be switching my set around to add that.

Yeah, there's definitely better Red Orb users; Roserade is a direct example, being able to actually outspeed some threats. I suppose it can Defog, but it will need some bulk investment in order to be somewhat effective with it.
I suppose this is a good time to finish up the analyses that I've saved up...
Alolan-Sandslash: So this is an Ice type. One with two double weaknesses. So what do I do with it? Give it a Blue Orb so it removes one of them. It performed decently at the role, also serving as a check to Entei. It can also set up Aurora Veil with an underutilized mega stone that is available (Abomasite), but I don't recommend it, personally.
Kommo-o: Might as well use this before the Fairypocalypse begins for real... There's quite a few Mega Stones it can hold, and they're pretty good. But from the vantage point of the Absolite Special set I used... I want my Pidgeotite already. It's only useful for Focus Blast, but is nonetheless still there.
Lucario: Why has no one talked about this? Even if (when) it gets banned, it'll still be very useful. Even a Pinsirite variant 2HKOs Blissey with Close Combat, which can be turned into an easy OHKO with Swords Dance. I'm starting to realize why its banned right now, and that is because of how easily it can set up a Swords Dance. Blastoisinite sets are also really cool, but the Pinsirite one is clearly superior... and a little TOO strong for the meta to handle.
Tokapex: Still pretty useful for stall, actually. It's still hurt by the fact that its base HP is rather low, but that's just reason to always invest fully in it. Nothing's going to fix the issue that Tokapex is too passive; Zygarde has the ability to beat Tokapex 1v1 anyways.. Maybe at the cost of being statused, but that's usually the most Tokapex can do to a team. Maybe that's exactly what you want to do. It's also a Poison type, meaning Toxic Spikes are useless to lay down... for the non-Tokapex user.
There we go. Next time, I'll be covering a new move that's single-handedly given a type new attention.
Heyo, I've finally got a little time on my hands and have been testing out a cool semi-stall team that works very well imo. Stall wasn't really a thing in gen 6, but the addition of cress (even with offense getting new toys like gigas and dnite) as well as being able to use two Sablenites makes stall a good strategy. Muk-Alola is a very good addition to stall as it is able to switch in on Hoopa-U and trap it with Pursuit, as well as Pursuit-trap Mega Gengar, which is obviously a dangerous threat to stall. It can also deal with some Alakazam and Tapu Lele. Venusaurite Zapdos is also extremely useful, checking a variety of mons including Kartana, various Red Orb users, Cobalion, Klinklang, etc. as well as acting as a good pivot.
As for new things, offense obviously was boosted a lot as well. Kartana and Pheromosa are both absolute beasts. Metagrossite gives Kartana everything it ever wanted in more speed + attack, it has enough physical bulk to live an espeed, and Tough Claws boosts every move it wants to use. It also has SD and Beast Boost pre-mega to heavily threaten stall. Pheromosa on the other hand is a strong offensive pivot and great revenge killer, even thoughts it dies to basically everything. Lucarionite is probably its best stone granting boosts to HJK/U-Turn. That's all for now, I'll prob post my team soon too.
