another win by the Cardinals last night as they earned #80 vs. the triple-a team Pirates and Pujols hit a 3-run homer to assure Wainwright gets his MLB leading 17th win after the Pirates clobbered him for 6 runs. The bats certainly came alive and hope it continues.

I want to see the Cardinals sweep and embarrass the Yankees in the World Series.

Holy shit, what a series! We SPLIT with the division leaders! Halladay's one-hitter was amazing, and look at this comment on an MLB article:
MLB.com said:
It was hard to figure out who the first-place team was on Sunday, as the fourth-place Toronto Blue Jays used an eight-run fifth to defeat the bumbling American League East-leading New York Yankees, 14-8, before a crowd of 30,873 at Rogers Centre.
NEXT SEASON JAYS WILL WIN IT ALL! If we don't, out with J.P. and into rebuilding mode.

NEXT SEASON JAYS WILL WIN IT ALL!

I loled. The Blue Jays are one of the more hopeless teams in the MLB, as they're heading down while everyone else in that division keeps moving up. Even the Orioles look solid enough going into next year to at least overtake the Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays had a strong first half. They we're 11games over .500.

And Halladay was just a pitching god!!. Than the whole Alex Rios thing, and Yankees started heating up. They just blew there lead. But the Blue Jays are a good team in general.

Right if only the Rays actually gave a fuck, and pass Boston in AL East or Wild Card, for that playoff spot. The Rays deserve it. Boston are just greedy assholes, taking Wagner,Victor,LaRoche. Is just wow. And they can't even get 5hits of Yankees starters.

Yankees/Dodgers World Series.

Greedy assholes? How? By building their team so that it's world series caliber? I don't see why that's so bad.

I fail to understand how the Sox trading for Billy Wagner (who cleared waivers through 20-something other teams before the Sox claimed him), Victor Martinez (who they sorely needed since Varitek, Ortiz, and Lowell's numbers are all declining), and getting Adam LaRoche (who they needed for a left-handed bat off the bench. I'll admit flipping him to the Braves right after was a bit eh, but Kotchman is a solid player, and the Braves will probably resign LaRoche after the season, unlike the Sox) is greedy, when the Yankees spent $480 million dollars just in the OFFSEASON on Sabathia, Burnett, and Texiera, not counting the millions more tied up in Jeter, A-Rod, ect. That's more than the entire GDP of 14 countries, just for three players! So I fail to see how you can call the Red Sox "greedy assholes" for trying to shore up weaknesses in their lineup before a playoff push.

Edit: Also they didn't "take" those players, they gave up, in total, 6 minor-league players and Justin Masterson, who is a 4-5 starter or a potent reliever, depending on how you use him.

As a yankees fan, even I can agree that the yankees are more greedy than the Red Sox. But it does seem like every player who leaves the red sox gets better than he was before. Smoltz Laroche etc.

The post above is why I despise the Yankees.
Agreed. The Yankees are the sole reason I'd advocate a salary cap on baseball, but that would change the way everything works. Unfortunately, it would cause too much of a ripple, but if the MLB could get a salary cap on JUST the Yankees, it would not only make the MLB a lot closer to how it was in 2006. In that season, even if it was comparatively steroided to now, every team had spent under $200,000,000 and had a win percentage of between 40% and 60%. When the teams at the top spend less, it leads the way for closer races and in turn, a better season for fans of every team (unless you're a Pirates fan, then you're out of luck). Of course, the Yankees just want to make their team better and it is a business after all, but the MLB needs to understand that giving every team free reign isn't smart.

Boston, New York, and (both) LA are proven pressure cookers. However, when you trade people over to Quadruple-A I MEAN THE NL, obviously they'll do better. Smoltz, as an example, pitched 21 years in the weaker league. He's faced most everyone on every roster. He's watched the tapes. He knows that league like the back of his hand. However, throw him into an unfamiliar league with a batting-practice fastball, and he's going to get banged up. Same with Penny, though his problem was he was throwing his fastball too much, and the hitters were just waiting for it and pounding him.

I agree that we need a salary cap, I'm just kind off confused at how giving up abreu, giambi, picking up texeira, burnett and sabathia lowers their total salary

47 = home runs by Albert Pujols
18 = wins by Adam WainWright
4 = number of world series games needed to win
0 = number of world series games the Yankees win if they make the world series vs the Cardinals

Go Cardinals!

0= number of games red sox will win next season
1000= number of errors Pedroia, Youkilis, and Bay will each make next season
2= Number of World Championships the yankees will win these 2 years

:) go Yankees!

Colorado! Look at them, it's just like their last late run, except they have a lot more of a chance now! Only two games back of the Dodgers, and they just came off a 9-1 homestand, winning 7 in a row. These Rox really do look like they have a chance to relive the magic for one last time in Helton's career.

Meh, Colorado, Dodgers, who gives a crap about the NL? AL is where it's at. You got the Yankees, Wh00t!, the Angels, the Tigers and the Red Sox. I think the fans of those teams can agree that NL is utter trash. Besides the point that no NL teams have an average of over .590. In the meantime, two teams in AL have an average of over .600. As of right now, it looks like it'll be a Dodgers, Cardinals, Phillies and Rockies NLCS. Not too much fun there. Probably the only challenge for AL is Dodgers (with 3 traitors: Bobby Abreau, Joe Torre, and Manny Ramirez, not a fan of Mets, but they are a New York team =))

I find it quite sad and ironic that the top 4 in RBI's in the AL are in the AL East, yet there is a such a huge difference in overall team performance between the teams that they're on:

Hopefully the Blue Jays can keep that hot offense they had going to last all year long, next year. Getting Marcum and McGowan along with Ricky Romero should give us a VERY solid Starting 4 in our rotation. Too bad they couldn't come back earlier this season and at least help us get to .500.

Are you joking? It's still 9 games to play. 3 of which is against the Red Sox. If the Yankees lose 1 game, Red Sox will be behind 4 games instead of the 5 they would be if they played another team, but right now, let's hope the Sox lose this current game, since I want to see the Yankees in the top, not the Wild Card.

Im congratulting them on being the first team to clinch a playoff spot not for the division. they will get another one when that happens

If they win one game out of the next 7, they clinch the division. So, let's pray that the Boston Redsox will be their magic division clincher.

cards and dodgers wrapped up playoff births today. that'll be a fun race to watch (the nl playoffs).

also, a hearty "lol" goes out to the blue jays, who have outscored their opponents this season, yet have clinched a losing season.

Yanks - Box, Yanks need 1 more game to clinch division, or Box still has a chance. Byrd vs. Pettitte, let's hope Pettitte pitches his "A" game today, since this is where everything counts.

1:05 PM EST game.

Twins look hot. They're on the Tigers' tail (pun intended). But, I honestly think that the Tigers might lose the next two and the season might end in a tie. BTW, if the regular season is finished and the Tigers and Twins have the same record, who'll get the AL Central title? Or will they play another couple of games to see who'll get it? Honestly it would be better, imo, if the Twins get the AL Central title since the Twins are 0-7 vs. the Yanks this season compared to 1-6 Tigers vs. the Yanks.

Not to mention that I have to root for the Boston Red Sox to defeat the Angels if Boston stays in the wild card since the Sox can defeat the Angels, but the Yanks can't defeat the Angels while they can defeat the Sox, if it comes down to Yanks vs. Sox. But this is all in theory.

So far, the Postseason looks like:

Yanks vs. (Tigers or Twins)
Sox vs. Angels

Dodgers vs. Cardinals
Phillies vs. Rockies.

Bolded is the people I want to win.

(Tigers or Twins)
then Twins vs. Yanks
Sox vs. Angels

Dodgers vs. Cardinals
Phillies vs. Rockies.

Then:

Yanks vs. Sox
Cardinals vs. Phillies

Since the Phillies are 2-1 vs the Yanks

Then:

Cardinals vs. Yanks

This would be an awesome World Series.

Post your probables people.

Atlanta is really hot now. They'll be able to take the NL Wild Card if they keep it up for the last week
