Lmao!!.
Why we didn't make the playoffs last year?!? We had a shit load of Injury's, we lost our best pitcher Ching-Meng Wang. And we also lost Joba for some time. I mean seriously. Thats all you guys could talk about.
"BOOOHOOO!!, THE YANKEES PAYROLL BAWW!!!" Jesus Christ, build a fucking bridge and get over it.
This argument is so tired because nobody argues the right issues. Criticizing our homegrown talent as a defense is shaky because it's our payroll that allows us to pay Jeter, Rivera, Pettitte, and Posada an average of $15 million per player per season. The reason that it's "fair" that we have such a high payroll is that 1) it's in the rules and we pay all the fees, taxes, revenue sharing, etc associated with it and 2) the reason we are in this position is because of some great marketing by team management. I'm talking about things like the YES network for example which is the biggest regional cable network and has generated a ton of revenue for the team which has then been reinvested into the team (while most of it anyway).
Your higher payroll is not because of some "brilliant marketing", it's because NY is a huge city and the Yankees are an old franchise with a billion band-wagon fans. If you moved the Yankees marketing team to a small market city like Cleveland or Minnesota you would see vastly different results (obviously).
Yes, you are right though. They aren't breaking any rules (well, they are, but they're paying their dues for said rules), but I think most of the people arguing against the Yankees right now agree that the rules need to be changed. There's no point in a salary cap if you can exceed it, and the sport is inherently unfair if some teams have individual players who make more money than entire other teams.
Of course the commissioner will never change that rule, because right now they generate a ton of income from teams like Boston and NY, and Bud Selig is more interested in money than fairness.
I would of probably never been in this argument if the Yankees had at least 7 All stars in there lineup. And if AJ won 17+ Games. But since AJ didn't have a good season and since only 4 players from the team made the All star team, i gotta drop my 5cents to see wazup with this ignorant bashing on the Yankees.
"Only" 4 players on the all star team this year? LOL. Sorry, that made me chuckle.
PS: When was the last time the Yankees won a tittle?
