Most Generation PRNG Help / Information

I'm trying to breed a Shiny Hoothoot on Diamond with no preference in IVs, abilities or natures. I'm doing everything exactly as the Smogon guide says but I still am unable to get a Shiny Hoothoot.

My team is: Gyarados, Latios, Bibarel, 2 Hoothoots (that I'll breed) and one empty space for a level 50 pokemon to catch.

I use find seed by stats and then I input it after I do so.

I was thinking the problem might be because of the starting frame (it's 1)? I also found my secret ID from a Pokemon I sent to Black from Diamond. Does the secret ID change when sent?

I also start with the happiness checker on so I don't need to switch to it when I turn on the game, and I keep the coin flip thing on after I'm done flipping coins, and I talk to the daycare guy to find out if he has my egg. Do I have to switch to the egg checker app?

"Please note that the number of flips and taps that are listed assume that you will also be doing 10 coin flips to verify your initial seed.". Do I have to do this? It isn't mentioned on Smogon's guide..

Edit: Got the Shiny Hoothoot! I used Sweet Scent and it worked fine.

I have a question about RNG breeding shinies in SSHG.
At this moment I may obtain the seed/delay time for the requested shiny but am unclear about the frame. Looking at some videos they say the frame is the egg number that would be shiny. So if I hit the seed/delay time, placed the pokemon at that moment into the daycare and was going for frame 5. That would mean I reject the first 4 eggs and collect the fifth egg which the pokemon would be shiny. This would mean the initial save frame is disregarded?
Or is the frame the same as RNGing the IVs of a pokemon so I would need to hit the seed/delay time then figure out my current save frame and minus it from my target frame, which I would then advance it using elm poke gear and after I reach the target frame give my pokemon to the daycare women?

Does anyone have a link to important spreads for catching using the j method?

No, you don't have to do any egg rejecting. For shinyness, your starting frame is 1. So, to advance to frame 5, you have to call Youngster Joey twice (He advances by 2 each call). So after you hit your seed, put your pokemon into the daycare, and then call Joey twice. Then, run around until the DC man has the egg. Go right in front of him and save. Then, take the egg and confirm it's Shiny with whatever nature/gender/ability you wanted. If it is, turn off your game, and RNG for IVs next. I hope I helped :]

Also, I have a couple questions.

- When are the IVs for the Kanto/Hoenn starters generated? I think I asked this before, but I just want to be sure.

- Are there specific encounter slots for the BCC? I can't seem to find BCC slots in the link given on RNG Reporter (8.31). Would I just RNG in the BCC like normal, except take NPCs into account?

- Similar as the question above, except about the Safari Zone. I can't find encounter slots for them. So at the Safari Zone, I just have to hope I get the pokemon I want, since there are no Encounter Slots?

hey thanks I'll go try it out. So calling elm to verify the seed will have no effect on shinyness?

How can I hit a specific seed on sapphire?
I have this seed, which in my game has a shiny hasty spread x/31/x/31/x/31 on frame 2500 + or -

I'm on route 116 to catch a nincada,I have a synch(hasty nature, first slot in my party) and a sweet scenter. The reporter says me that this frame is after 42 min,but on what time should I softreset? and how can I encounter a nincada and not an another pkmn(like taillow for example)?

Lol uhh...how does RNGing in Safari Zone work exactly for HG/SS? I was just testing it for kicks.

My seed is d2140289
ID/SID: 49320; 22175

When I Sweet scented it jumped like 100 frames (is that normal?). So I tried again without any frame advancement, had a synchronizer out and supposedly I'm on frame 119. There's no shinies on that frame, but I still encountered one anyways (Shiny Wobba lmao)

So yeah, help? lol

Nope, Elm only effects the IVs when it comes to breeding. And Joey only affects PID for breeding. Good luck :D

Thanks Princess of Johto for the help and the people who made the guides :)
Heres my first ever RNG

I can only RNG in 4th gen without a mac computer right. Since fifth gen only has mac software and no windows?

That's weird O_O I wanted to try Safari Zone as well, so I can't really help you since I've never done it. But Idk if that's normal, jumping 100 frames with SS and finding a shiny on a non-shiny frame.

Congrats!

5th Gen. does have a program that works for windows, lol. It's RNG Reporter 9.81. The link is in the first post of the 5th gen. RNG help thread.

Well, I'm trying it outside of Goldenrod City (Route 34) where there's no NPCs, and every time I sweet scent the frame is advanced by 30-40 (according to RNG Helper), so I have no idea why SS is advancing the frame by that much in HG. :/ I'm using an emulator if that matters.

Like, I'm just trying to RNG a shiny abra but I can't even sweet scent it because the frame jumps like crazy.

There's moving NPCs on that route, that may be what's causing your frame jumps.

The one by the daycare? There's only like, one moving NPC. Unless I'm missed something.

I'm watching my frame movements too via ARM9 memory (desmume) so while I'm stationary nothing is happening, the frame specifically jumps by a ridiculous amount as I'm sweet scenting, which is what's so confusing.

Edit
: k here's an example that I just did. I'm stationary, no bike.

I'm currently on frame 4.

I sweet scent-> Jump to frame 34
+1 in battle-> 35

Why? D: D: D:

Edit 2: Do the roamers affect the frame...? I have 2 beasts running around right now.

2 Roamers should advance the frame by 2, but the other 32 I have no explanation for..

I think you should try it while riding a bike. Idk what's going on, but the bike might change it. Idk :P

Haha okay wise words. Well I gave up for 5 minutes then went back at it (if I say I give up I just need a break lol)

Turns out RNG Helper/ARM9 Memory is misleading when it comes to sweet scenting. It will say the frame jumped by 30 but realistically it only went by 1. So I dunno what "frame" keeps advancing by 30 according to the memory but when inputting the seed into RNG helper it kept giving me a different number than what the actual current frame was.

tl;dr -- Figured out the problem. Thanks all.

Other than you time yourself right and an NPC moves at the right time...no I don't think so, which is why RNGing IVs in Platinum is a no-no.

if you want to advance the frame by 1,you would have to have 1 poke in your party and walk 128 steps

if it is for egg you can do it,you would have to get a odd frame

Nvm stupid question.

Edit: If my shiny frame is on 78 and since Totodile has a monster frame of 11, I just advance the frame by the difference to get it to be shiny right?

Yeah, lol. So 67 advancements :]

Edit: Are BCCs encounter slots different? Here it says there's only 1-10. If so, when I search for a seed in PokeRNG and I pick Encounter Slot 9, will the pokemon that appears be Scyther, or will it be different because BCC encounter slots are different?

I'm trying to teach someone how to RNG abuse on 4th gen. Person in question is using a DSi XL. Would that give us any trouble?

Personally I don't know how slots work for BCC. I'm only guessing the most effective way, by using an emulator, is to hit your seed, make a save state at the first patch of grass you find.

Then sweet scent. If it's not the poke you want, advance the frame by calling elm, sweet scent, repeat the process until you find who you want.

For example I tried it earlier, kept getting venonats, weedles, kakuna, a scyther (too bad my seed was timid :/) and eventually hit Shiny Butterfree. If you're using a (flash) cart with no save states you'll just have to get lucky.
