Most Generation PRNG Help / Information

What time do I use for method 1 pokemon(fossils, Riley's Riolu, etc)? I have found my seed, but Method 1(unlike Method J, which is what I am used to) shows up with another tab, "Time". Should I use that time(on any given date) or use the "Seed to Time" function to figure out my time? (This is probably an awkward time to post but I can't sleep)

Use the method 1 tab for your frame, then use Seed to time to find a suitable time and date.

Hey for Canalave City, is it possible to have the journal up at the start of the game, then push Y for a registered super rod?

If you're saying straight away, I don't think so.

You would need to do the flips beforehand, then close journal while very quickly using Y (registered rod).

You might be a few frames off to begin with, as the NPCs will affect your frame by 1-4. Just calibrate it and act accordingly.

Oh people were saying that if you get the start menu up asap before the npcs even move, then you'll be fine. Are you saying it doesn't even matter if I rapidly do it as soon as the game starts?

Well, it's like breeding. No matter how fast you you cancel journal then talk to the guy, you'll still get 1-5 advancements.

So basically find out how much the NPCs effect the frame, then take that number into account when you're doing your flips.

Oh lol my mistake. You did say do the journal flips first, then quickly use the rod. That's what I meant. Have the journal up at the start of the game, do the flips, then do the rod right away.

That sounds about right =D.

I have my own question. How do I find out what my Trophy garden poke is? I'm pretty sure I know what it is, but how do I confirm it?

It's been my trophy poke for quite some while now, and I haven't "retalked" to the man yet.

O.o o.O... So close but it would seem that staryu has the wrong encounter slot number xD. I got my spread down to the last detail, but the spread somehow went to Gyarados who is 0 on the encounter slot for platinum in canalave. Staryu is 2, so is there anyway to verify if the site has the wrong encounter codes for those two? Like has anyone tried one of them before? And yes I used the super rod ;)

Did you hit the correct frame?
Is there any frame that has the same Spread but different encounter code near the one you were aiming for?

Well I'm on frame 134 and the one above me, 136, has the same code as gyarados. So is it possible that an npc movement could have done this?

Very likely as it's unlikely that the encounter slots are wrong (possible but unlikely).

So just do 1 less flip and see if you get your Staryu =)

Ok I'll give that a try and if it doesn't work after a while, I'll switch to opening up the journal at the start :). Thanks.

Only way I can think of is to take note of both species that aren't usually there. Then talk to the guy, get a new Pokemon in and see which of the earlier species is still there. That species would be the more recent one. Then reset without saving.

Hey guys. I know I'm a bit late to the party but I recently got HG as a present and thus after a while of being busy with other games I'm all back playing pokemon.
Either way, using Platinum now, I decided to finally learn about RNGing. My first goal is to hatch a shiny Aerodactyl. Honestly, I don't care so much for IV's, so as long as it has an acceptable nature I'll be happy.

I've tried to follow http://www.smogon.com/ingame/rng/dpp_rng_part1 but there's still some questions which I have, I'm overall insecure as to if I am doing it right.
Please bear with me, I'll try to explain:

The Prerequisites:
- Got my RNG open, ID and SiD entered. Got both happiness and coin flip apps. Now here in the guide it says "have the poketch show the app before the happiness checker". Does this mean the team status (05) one?
- I went to the route below stark mountain and soft resetted a few times, finding a delay and seconds. There is some sort of volcanic ash effect in the air, but it's not shown as a weather effect inside a pokebattle, so does it matter?
- example results: 602/15 and 600/14 How much more do I have to do? Can I just work with those now?

Breeding:
- I have a ditto and an Aerodactyl with me, my party consists of 5 including those two.

Now from what I understand I just search for a PiD of a pokeresult that I would be happy with, make RNGreporter show me the needed double taps and coin flips.
Where do I do this? Still standing out in the field where I caught a pokemon earlier?
When do I fly to solaceon? After I did all shown doubletaps and coinflips? Or do I have to count in walking from solaceon's pokecenter to the daycare, then up to the grandma and talking to her?
I'm just a bit confused.. Also, riding the bike while the parents are mating doesn'T have any effect on this whatsoever?

Thanks in advance, I know it's a wall of text.

Yes, if that's the app before it. If it isn't (you don't have it), then just get either the one above or below since you're in Platinum and can go either way.

It shouldn't. Just try catching a pokemon and see if it's giving you a resonable second/delay (the delay should be in the low 600's).
- example results: 602/15 and 600/14 How much more do I have to do? Can I just work with those now?
That's fine. Your delay doesn't matter to much when going for shinies, you just need to know the seed (which you get by putting in the IVs and time).

Good as long as you're catching a pokemon (which you are).

On the main page of the RNG Reporter, you should see a drop down tab(near where it says "Method:") near the top left. Click on it, and somewhere on there it should say "DPPt Egg Pid". Choose Normal if you're pokemon aren't international, and international if they are.
When do I fly to solaceon? After I did all shown doubletaps and coinflips? Or do I have to count in walking from solaceon's pokecenter to the daycare, then up to the grandma and talking to her? You can fly whenever you want. And don't worry about taking steps, that's only in going for IVs.

Riding the bike is fine.

So I have to keep it in the party until everything's done? The one that I freshly caught that is. Thanks for all the explanation so far btw, trying it right now.
Eh well I had the feeling.. I had a good target frame (358), so I doubletapped the happiness checker 28 times, switched to coin flip, flipped it 9 times.. but the results did not match the predicted ones. Tried it anyway, and sure it's not shiny :D
So now I'm wondering where I did the mistake.
After I caught a random lv53 camerupt, got the seed. Delay/secs was 602/14. Clicked shiny and pressed generate. Then I just proceeded to do the tapping I wrote about above. After that I flew straight to solaceon, handed the grandma the two pokes and went on from there...hmmm.. might very well be my running around to find the poke after soft resetting. Would sweet scent / fishing be better? Don't want to advance the RNG by mistake.

The best place to check your seed imo is the Resort Area, using the Super Rod. Just bring some Repeat Balls and catch >lvl 50 Magikarp to verify. The ash falling in the Stark Mountain area may well be affecting the IRNG, but I'm not 100% sure. I use the Resort Area and have no problems breeding shinies :)

Also, delay is important - you need hit it to get the right seed. You seconds (14/15) should be consistent, so it may be worth doing some more calibration to get a tighter range.

I just got my first shiny bred aerodactyl after using the super rod in resort area. The tapping is annoying as I could easily lose count of where I am after a while lol.. but it worked. About the delay.. I'm using an internet clock with seconds and when I go for a new seed, I just reset the DS at a new minute.. usually after 14/15 secs I'm pressing A.

But.. why does it have to be consistent, I'm wondering. The RNG chain only depends on the current seed, which depends on when I pressed A right?
So even if I did it at a random time, I'd just have to make sure I encounter a wild pokemon in the same minute no?

Well, if you want to lower the amounts of flips then try using the Shiny Egg Finder tab :) It will locate shiny spreads on a given date, and gives you the delay you need (thats why I was on about consistency, I didn't know you were using the regular seed finder).

First thing I did with RNG was hatch a couple of shinies. Just enter the game at a particular minute. No calibration. No concern about delays.
I saved in the grass north of the resort area, moved about to encounter a Pokemon, caught it and determined the seed. If a high number of taps were required I just repeated until I got an easy number.
All you need to know is what time you entered the game world. Not what minute the Pokemon was caught.
