Mudbray QC 3/3 GP 0/2

Status
Not open for further replies.

GOAO

Banned deucer.
[OVERVIEW]
VII has brought a lot of new Pokemon to LC, and one of the best is Mudbray. Its great coverage and defensive stats make it a very good bulky and offensive Pokemon. Its ability, Stamina makes Mudbray able to switch in on most physical attackers. Since Mudbray has a very good base Attack stat, it is a very strong Pokemon even with little investment of Attack EVs, but on the other hand it isn't a very fast Pokemon, only reaching a maximum of 15 Speed. Since Mudbray doenst really fit any specific role, it can be difficult to fit it on a team.

[SET]
name: Specially Defensive RestTalk
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Rest
move 3: Sleep Talk
move 4: Heavy Slam / Rock Slide
item: Eviolite
ability: Stamina
nature: Careful
evs: 116 HP / 116 Atk / 36 Def / 236 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Earthquake is a strong STAB attack that Mudbray should use most often. Rest allows Mudbray to fully restore its health and get rid of its status ailment if it has one. Sleep Talk allows Mudbray to attack while it is asleep so that it isn't completely useless while it is asleep. Heavy Slam lets Mudbray hit almost everything that resists Earthquake while Rock Slide lets Mudbray OHKO some Pokemon such as Larvesta and Dewpider.

Set Details
========

The EV spread gives Mudbray solid bulk with 25 HP, 21 Defense and 24 Special Defense when paired with Eviolite. Stamina lets Mudbray easily switch into physical attackers such as Mienfoo because it gives a Defense boost to live further hits. 116 Attack EVs let Mudbray 2HKO every Mienfoo variant, as well as Mareanie.

Usage Tips
========

Mudbray's Earthquake is very strong and should be spammed, especially when the opponent has no Flying-types. You can switch Mudbray into most physical attackers because the Defense boost from Stamina will let it take less damage from any further attacks, but keep in mind you can't switch Mudbray in versus every Physical attacker. Use RestTalk to restore health when Mudbray is low on HP, as the main purpose of the set is to keep Mudbray alive for as long as possible.

Team Options
========

Flying-types such as Vullaby and Doduo can check Snivy, which is one of the best Mudbray counters. A Gothita variant with Calm Mind and RestTalk can trap and remove defensive Staryu, which is a great Mudbray counter. Fairy-types such as Snubbull and Spritzee appreciate Mudbray's help checking Steel- and Fire-types. Grass-types are good partners since they counter most Water-types. Snubbull, Timburr, and other bulky yet offensive Pokemon appreciate having Mudbray as a teammate, as they keep up momentum and cover each other with good bulk and offensive abilities.

[SET]
name: All-out Attacker
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Heavy Slam
move 3: Rock Slide
move 4: Close Combat
item: Berry Juice
ability: Stamina
nature: Adamant
evs: 116 HP / 196 Atk / 36 Def / 156 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Mudbray's strongest move is STAB Earthquake. Heavy Slam provides good neutral coverage, and hits Pokemon such as Cottonee and Spritzee super effectively. Rock Slide can super effectively hit Pokemon such as Larvesta and Dewpider on the switch-in, as well as Flying-type Pokemon that are immune to Earthquake. Close Combat lets Mudbray super effectively hit Pokemon such as Munchlax, Scraggy, and Ferroseed.

Set Details
========

196 Attack EVs plus an Adamant nature makes Mudbray as strong as possible. Reaching 13 Speed lets Mudbray outspeed Pokemon such as Timburr, Skrelp, and Alolan Grimer. Berry Juice gives Mudbray a "second life" since it almost fully restores Mudbray's HP when used. 116 HP EVs give Mudbray a solid 25 HP stat, and the remaining 36 EVs are invested in Defense to allow Mudbray to live two attacks from Mienfoo.

Usage Tips
========

Mudbray has a good offensive stat plus a good STAB attack, so Mudbray should spam Earthquake the majority of the time. Since Mudbray has Berry Juice, you can switch in on Pokemon such as Magnemite, Croagunk, and Cranidos once and then get back to full HP. Mudbray shouldn't switch in a Knock Off because Berry Juice is important.

Team Options
========

Flying-types in general such as Rufflet can check Snivy, which is one of the best Mudbray counters. Pursuit Pawniard can be a good partner since it traps and removes Flying-types, making it easier to spam Earthquake. Grass-types such as Snivy and Foongus are good partners since they counter Water-types in general. Munchlax has good synergy with Mudbray since it has a very good Special Defense stat while Mudbray has a very good Defense stat.

[SET]
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Earthquake
move 2: Heavy Slam
move 3: Rock Slide
move 4: Close Combat
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Stamina
nature: Jolly / Adamant
evs: 36 HP / 196 Atk / 36 Def / 236 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Earthquake is Mudbray's STAB attack and most reliable move. Heavy Slam does a good job versus Pokemon that usually resist Earthquake. Rock Slide surprises Pokemon that would live the Mudbray's other moves. Close Combat super effectively hits Normal and Dark Pokemon.

Set Details
========

236 Speed EVs with a Jolly nature lets Mudbray outspeed Modest Gothita and speed tie with Timid Gothita while Adamant only lets Mudbray tie with Gothita at best. 196 Attack EVs with an Adamant Nature lets Mudbray reliably OHKO Life Orb Staryu after Stealth Rock damage, Jolly Mudbray only has a 50% chance to OHKO.

Usage Tips
========

People don't usually expect Scarf Mudbray, so use the unpredictability to your advantage. Careful predicitions are always important when using a Choice-locked Pokemon.

Team Options
========

Fairy-types appreciate Mudbray as a partner since it helps them by dealing with cleaning Fire- and Steel- types. Pursuit Pawniard is a very nice teammate because it traps and removes Flying types, making it much easier to spam Earthquake. Stealth Rock setters are appreciated as Stealth Rock breaks Sturdy, allowing Mudbray to sweep more easily.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A spread of 116 HP / 196 Atk / 36 Def / 156 SpD is usable on the first two sets if you want a more powerful but still bulky Mudbray. Bulldoze helps Mudbray outspeed switch-ins. Superpower can replace Close Combat on the last two sets if you think an Attack drop is not as bad as a Special Defense drop.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-type Pokemon**: Snivy and Pumpkaboo can switch in on as they resist Earthquake, and do not take much damage from any of Mudbray's attacks. They can also restore their HP using Synthesis. Foongus is an OK check, but keep in mind it can switch in on Mudbray only once and if it takes a bit of damage or its Eviolite gets Knocked Off it will easily get 2HKOed.

**Water-type Pokemon**: Defensive Staryu and Slowpoke can switch in on Mudbray, live one Earthquake and restore their health by using Recover and Slack Off, respectively. Dewpider resists 3 of the 4 attacks that Mudbray usually uses and can KO it with a super strong Liquidation.

**Strong Special Attackers**: Abra, Gastly,(AC) and special attacking Carvanha can easily revenge kill Mudbray and sometimes switch in on it.

NOT QC

Scarf Jolly Mudbray gets outsped by base 60s and higher, such as Pawniard, and Chinchou: the latter is a bit dangerous in my opinion, unless you catch it on the switch :/

done ;_;
there are english mistakes so i'd looooooove if someone on QC could help me fixing the dumb ones, thanks!

aight so I agree with Coconut that scarf and all out attacker shouldn't be two sets, scarf is kinda eh imo.

remove that bc it isn't the best, objectively. makes your point about not having a real niche seem weird too.

QC: 2/3 write up go!

I think the scarf set should stay. It's very much comparable to Scarf Drilbur which got a set last gen. It trades Poison Jab and Rapid Spin for Heavy Slam and Close Combat, and trades extra speed for extra strength. I've used it to success on a couple teams and think it's good enough to warrant a set. I would appreciate any extra feedback, including from those not in QC.

hey, just popping in to say that I think Scarf/BJ should be different sets because even though they look similar, they play very differently. Scarf Mudbray has three moves that are strong enough to sweep with which is really cool even if it isn't great at sweeping with any one of them. It's also less worried about Knock Off than most other Scarf users are.

[OVERVIEW]
  • Mudbray is pretty easy to put on a team; it's kinda like Aipom in that it doesn't really offer team support but is a good Pokemon overall. Idk how to convey that into your overview but the last sentence just seems jarringly counter to the rest of your paragraph.

On the inclusion of the Choice Scarf set, from the QC convo:

Scarfmon set checklist:
  1. 34 Base Speed or above: Yes
  2. Pivot Move: No
  3. Powerful BP STAB: Yes
  4. Pick ONE of:
    1. Key Resistances: No
    2. Specific Ability to RK a Specific Big Threat: No
A scarfmon that deserves a set in early meta game development should say yes to at least 3/4 of these. Mudbray's Scarf set should be in OO, especially now that Electric Conversion Porygon is out of the picture.

  • Choice Scarf should be the first option listed here.
  • Talk about why you'd use the alternate spread; i.e. more powerful.
  • Bulldoze only helps Mudbray outspeed; it's actually worse at hitting its checks because of reduced accuracy and lower BP.
  • Superpower should be the last option listed here.

Earthquake is a strong STAB attack that Mudbray will should use most often. Rest allows Mudbray to fully restore its health and get rid of another its status ailment if it has one. Sleep Talk allows Mudbray to attack while it is asleep so that it isn't complete completely useless while it is asleep. Heavy Slam lets Mudbray hit almost everything that resists Earthquake, (AC) whereas while Rock Slide lets you Mudbray OHKO some Pokemon such as Larvesta and Dewpider. (AP)

The EV Spread spread gives Mudbray a solid 25/21/24 25 / 21 / 24 bulk with 25 HP, 21 Defense and 24 Special Defense when paired with Eviolite. Stamina lets Mudbray easily switch into Physical Attackers physical attackers such as Mienfoo because it gives a defense Defense boost to live further hits. 116 Attack EVs lets let Mudbray 2HKO every Mienfoo variant, as well as ToxapexMareanie.

Usage Tips

(add a line break)
Mudbray's Earthquake is very strong and should be spammed, especially when the opponent has no Flying-types. You can switch Mudbray into most Physical physical attackers because the defense Defense boost from Stamina will let it take less damage from any further attacks, but keep in mind that you can't switch Mudbray in versus every physical attacker. (because) Use and abuse RestTalk because thats the entire point of the set. Use RestTalk to restore Mudbray's health when Mudbray is it's low on HP, as the main purpose of the set is to keep Mudbray alive for as long as possible.

Flying-types such as Vullaby and Doduo can check snivy Snivy, which is one of the best Mudbray counters. A Calm Mind + RestTalk Gothita variant of with Calm Mind + and RestTalk can trap and remove defensive Staryu, which is a great Mudbray counter. Fairy-types such as Snubbull and Spritzee appreciate Mudbray's help checking ability to check Steel- and Fire-types. Grass-types are good partners, (AC) since they counter most Water-types. Snubbull, Timburr,(AC) and other bulky but yet offensive Pokemon appreciate having Mudbray around as a teammate, as they keep up momentum and cover each other other's weaknesses (not sure what you mean here. cover each other?) with good bulk and offensive abilities.

Mudbray's strongest STAB move is STAB Earthquake. Heavy Slam provides good neutral coverage, (RC) and hits Pokemon such as Cottonee and Spritzee super effectively. Rock Slide gets some can super effectively hit Pokemon such as Larvesta and Dewpider on the switch-in, as well as Flying Flying-type Pokemon that are immune to Earthquake. Close Combat lets Mudbray super effectively hit Pokemon such as Munchlax, Scraggy,(AC) and Ferroseed.

196 Attack EVs plus an Adamant nature make makes ("make" is fine) Mudbray as strong as possible. Hitting Reaching 13 speed Speed lets Mudbray outspeed a few Pokemon such as Timburr, Skrelp, and Alolan Grimer, etc. Berry Juice gives you Mudbray a "second life" second chance, (AC) since it makes Mudbray go back to full hp once it gets used almost fully restores Mudbray's HP when used activated. 116 HP EVs gives give Mudbray a solid 25 HP stat, and the remaining 36 EVs are invested in defense Defense to make allow Mudbray to live Mienfoo attacking twice two attacks from Mienfoo.

Usage Tips

(add a line break)
Mudbray has a good offensive stats stat plus a good STAB attack, spam that STAB so Mudbray it should spam Earthquake the majority of the time. Since Mudbray has berry juice Berry Juice, you can switch it in vs on Pokemon such as Magnemite, Croagunk,(AC) and Cranidos once and still goes then get back to full HP. Dont switch-in vs obvious Knock Offs cause Mudbray shouldn't switch in on Knock Off because Berry Juice is important.

Team Options
========

Flying-types in general such as Ruflett Rufflet in general can check Snivy, which is one of the best Mudbray counters. Pursuit Pawniard can be a good partner, (AC) since it traps and removes Flying-types, making it easier to spam Earthquake. Grass-types such as Snivy and Foongus are good partners, (AC) since they counter Water-types in general. Munchlax gives a has good synergy with Mudbray, (AC) since it has a very good SpD stats Special Defense stat while Mudbray has a very good Def stats Defense stat.

Earthquake is Mudbray's STAB attack and most reliable move. Heavy Slam does a good job vs versus Pokemon that usually resist Earthquake. Rock Slide surprises Pokemon that would live the two first moves Mudbray's other moves. Close Combat super effectively hits Normal and Dark Pokemon.

236 speed Speed EVs with a Jolly Nature nature lets let Mudbray outspeed modest Modest Gothita and Speed tie with timid Timid Gothita, but adamant while whereas Adamant only lets Mudbray tie with Gothita at best. 196 Atk Attack EVs with an Adamant Nature lets let Mudbray reliably OHKO LO Life Orb Staryu after Stealth Rock damage rocks, while 196 Atk jolly makes it a 50% roll Jolly Mudbray only has a 50% chance to OHKO.

People don't usually expect Choice Scarf Mudbray, so use the unpredictability to your advantage. Careful predicitions are always important when using a choiced Choice-locked Pokemon.

Fairy Types like Fairy-types appreciate
Mudbray around as a partner, (AC) since it helps them by dealing with cleaning Fire Fire- and Steel Steel- types. Pursuit Pawniard is a very nice teammate because it traps and removes Flying-types, making it way much easier to spam Earthquake. Stealth Rock setters breaking Sturdys are appreciated, (AC) as Stealth Rock breaks Sturdy, allowing Mudbray to sweep more easily to make Mudbray's sweep easier.

=============
(add a line break)
A 25/14/14 spread of 116 HP / 196 Atk / 36 Def / 156 SpD is usable on the first two sets,(RC) the remaining EVs should go to Atk if you want a more powerfull powerful but still bulky Mudbray. Bulldoze helps Mudbray outspeeding outspeed switch-ins. Superpower can replace Close Combat on the last two sets if you think losing Atk is better than losing SpD an Attack drop is not as bad as a Special Defense drop.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-type Pokemon**: Snivy and Pumpkaboo can switch in vs on Mudbray, (AC) resisting it's stab as they resist Earthquake,(RC) not taking and do not take much damage from any of Mudbray's attacks attack and recover themself by using Synthesis. They can also restore their HP by using Synthesis. Foongus is an ok OK a decent check, but keep in mind that it can switch in on Mudbray only once, (AC) vs Mudbray and if it takes a bit of damage or its Eviolite gets Knock Off'ed knocked off, (AC) it will easily get 2HKO'd 2HKOed.

**Water-type Pokemon**: Defensive Staryu and Slowpoke can switch in vs on Mudbray, live one Earthquake and recover themself restore their health by using Recover and Slack off Off, respectively. Dewpider resists 3 three of the 4 four attacks that Mudbray usually uses and can kill KO it with a super strong Liquidation.

**Strong Special Attackers**: Abra, Gastly,(AC) and Special special-attacking Carvanha can easily revenge kill Mudbray and sometimes switch in vs on it.
GP 1/2
MeButYou82 you made good changes, but you also made a lot of unneeded ones and missed things that needed to be changed. Please refer to the standards in the future. I'm not going to give you a stamp because of this, but keep working hard and you'll get there.

GOAO if i remember correctly, you aren't natively an English speaker, which is understandable. However, referring to the standards while writing up your analyses makes GP's job so much easier.

In general, however, I feel like this analysis is way too vague and blatant to the point where it's not doing anything but skimming the surface as to why which set uses what. For example, "Earthquake is a strong STAB attack that Mudbray should use most often." While this might be helpful, why should it be used most often? what does it hit that benefits Mudbray and/or its teammates?

Almost all of the sections in this analysis leave me questioning things like this, and putting up something that leaves the reader asking a ton of questions isn't good for something that's going on-site for newer players to use and read.

Hi! Not GP, but I just wanted to pop in and fix a small error you made that Kris might've missed.

"Since Mudbray doenst really fit any specific role, it can be difficult to fit it on a team."

It should be "doesn't" over "doenst". It's a tiny error but I just wanted to point it out. Good luck with this!

GOAO has decided that he no longer wishes to work on this. Mudbray is open to being reserved again.
