Project National Dex OU: Break This Core (Week 34: Mega Latias + Kartana + Victini)

reserving rona

Volcarona (F) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flame Body
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Quiver Dance
- Fire Blast/Flamethrower
- Bug Buzz
- Hidden Power [Ground]

after a quiver dance, rona outspeeds koko and thanks to hp ground, tran is 2hko'ed.

defensive calcs:
252 SpA Tapu Koko Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Volcarona in Electric Terrain: 148-175 (47.5 - 56.2%) -- 82.8% chance to 2HKO (rona can't switch in but it can get a dance)

0 SpA Heatran Magma Storm vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Volcarona: 130-154 (41.8 - 49.5%) -- 84% chance to 2HKO after trapping damage (again, can't switch in but can get a dance)

0 Atk Tangrowth Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Volcarona: 99-117 (31.8 - 37.6%) -- 90.4% chance to 3HKO (although rona might not switch in or even get a dance thanks to sleep powder)

offensive calcs:
+1 252 SpA Volcarona Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Tangrowth: 950-1122 (235.1 - 277.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+1 252 SpA Volcarona Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tapu Koko: 349-412 (124.1 - 146.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+1 252 SpA Volcarona Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 136+ SpD Heatran: 308-364 (79.7 - 94.3%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Thunder
- Soft-Boiled

Sets up on all of them and can easily snowball the core and especially at +1 even if its put to sleep heatran cant 3hko it and can proceed to setup on tran instead as if at +1 it isnt doing anything, at +2 clef isnt dying unless its to a crit. Clef sets up on koko to as koko just isnt doing enough especially since it cant 2hko it and is easily stalled out and turned into setup bait. While tang can put it to sleep, its teammates dont output enough damage to a +1 or +2 clef to be able to stop it especially as heatran does not have taunt.

0 SpA Heatran Magma Storm vs. +1 252 HP / 0 SpD Clefable: 99-117 (25.1 - 29.6%) -- 0% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Tapu Koko Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Clefable in Electric Terrain: 169-199 (42.8 - 50.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

A pretty standard zard x, once you find a safe switch against tapu koko it's done, click dd once and watch everything gets destroyed by the combination of flare blitz and earthquake.

The koko scenario is assuming that Greninja has evolved into ash-greninja, as tapu koko outspeeds non ash greninja

Reserving Kommo-o

Kommo-o @ Kommonium Z
Ability: Overcoat (yay no sandstorm chip)
EVs: 40 Atk / 236 Def / 108 SpA / 68 SpD / 56 Spe
Impish Nature
- Drain Punch / really any fighting type move of your choice
- Stealth Rock
- Clanging Scales
- Thunder Punch / Rock Slide

(italics are my default moves for this set)

Kommo-o not only straight up counters this core, but it can set up against it, whether it be Stealth Rock or Kommonium Z..

The set you can use widely varies but I tried to bring a best of both worlds with an Offensive SR set.

EVs are specifically designed to allow Kommo-o the best opportunities with the default moves (specifically in italics) as possible as well as defensive calcs. The SpA EVs are to allow for the -SpA from the Impish nature to balance out and return to it's base SpA (I really didn't know what nature/EVs to give this aside from the 40 Atk, 68 SpD and 56 Spe which are really the only important EVs and I'll explain why with calcs) and the Def EVs are to allow for Kommo-o to switch into TTar as comfortably as possible. Drain Punch is used to allow Kommo-o to abuse TTar's typing and stay healthy. 56 Spe allows Kommo-o to outspeed Zard Y after Kommonium Z omniboost.

And now relevant calcs...

Offensive:

40 Atk Kommo-o Thunder Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Charizard-Mega-Y: 150-178 (50.5 - 59.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

40 Atk Kommo-o Drain Punch vs. 40 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 336-400 (95.7 - 113.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

40 Atk Kommo-o Rock Slide vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Charizard-Mega-Y: 300-356 (101 - 119.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO (funny enough 40 Atk is relevant for this move as well)

Defensive:

252 SpA Charizard-Mega-Y Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 68 SpD Kommo-o in Sun: 114-135 (39.1 - 46.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyranitar Superpower vs. 0 HP / 236+ Def Kommo-o: 137-162 (47 - 55.6%) -- 76.6% chance to 2HKO (however this becomes irrelevant after you realize that you gain most of your health back after drain punch)

Really the only thing that can damper you is burns from Scorching Sands or Flamethrower... But if you haven't used Kommoium-Z you can fend off Zard Y with it, so not all hope would be lost.

So yes. Basically Zard gets baited because no one runs Keldeo with Stone Edge and you get a free switch out on TTar or another kill if you are using the Rockium Z GOAT version ggez

This core can destroy almost every defensive core, so defensive checks is not that available.
Only offensive checks work i think

Reserving protean greninja

Greninja @ Poisonium-Z
Ability: Protean
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Ice Beam
- Low Kick
- Gunk Shot
- Spikes

Would seem weird not having rock slide but this set still does the job against the duo. Rock slide is usually on scarf and it's just dies to ttar's pursuit after it gets locked into rock slide against zard y so i changed it to this set that destroys the duo after it gets a free switch. This set also has the surprise factor in that people won't expect you are still able to knock out the ground types, setup spikes while cleanly OHKOing the bulky fairies that usually can take a gunk shot and know the set if at full health. But to be fair i just hate clef so this set was invented

252 Atk Protean Greninja Low Kick (120 BP) vs. 40 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 580-688 (165.2 - 196%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 Atk Protean Greninja Acid Downpour (190 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Charizard-Mega-Y: 307-363 (103.3 - 122.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Garchomp @ Garchompite
Ability: Rough Skin / Sand Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature

- Swords Dance / Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Scale Shot / Fire Fang

Mega-Garchomp doesn't fear anything Zard Y can do to it, as even Max SpAtk Modest Dragon Pulse (which isn't a set) can't OHKO Mega-Garchomp without a crit. Meanwhile, Chomp OHKO's Zard Y's whole family with Stone Edge. And as for Ttar... it didn't live EQ from Mega Chomp to begin with, so putting up sand for it is just insult to injury.

252 Atk Garchomp-Mega Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Charizard-Mega-Y: 656-772 (220.8 - 259.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Sand Force Garchomp-Mega Earthquake vs. 40 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 480-566 (136.7 - 161.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
