So at the moment, a massive flood is devestating tens of thousands of houses in Brisbane, Australia. My house is one of those likely affected. Over 100000 houses are currently without power and will be for at least another week, possibly much longer. At the moment I'm on holidays and I have no clue what state my house will be in once I get home. I'm due to go back within the next couple of days but it's looking more and unlikely. Many of my friends have commented on Facebook about their need to evacuate and the destruction of their possessions. No one is going to work, and food trucks can't get through the flooded roads. It's entirely possible that the muddy flood water could contaminate the main water grid, resulting in a lack of fresh water in the city.
So post your experiences with natural disasters and/or calamitous events in your life. I'm kinda glad that I'm on holidays while this is happening; I can only imagine the discomfort in cramped evacuation centres without electricity.
