Thank you again everyone for voting! It's clear that Z Nature Power by wadusher is our winner this week with a clear 50% majority. Congratulations!

This week's case study will be Zygarde! There really isn't much to say about Zygarde, but there if there is one thing I can say, it's that it is undisputedly one of the greatest offensive behemoths in the tier. Having astounding bulk, it grants it the ability to just about facilitate just about any moveset and item combination possible. Sellout line goes here Can you make the next best Zygarde set? Deadline is on Friday the 17th. Happy Posting!

Here are the banned sets of the week

Happy Posting!

I like to call this set "gaygarde" as it can cheese past almost any pokemon.

Zygarde @ Leftovers
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 236 HP / 160 SpD / 112 Spe
Jolly Nature
IVs: 0 SpA
- Thousand Arrows
- Substitute
- Coil
- Glare

This set can set up on many Pokemon pretty easy due to its great bulk, and thanks to the move Coil, which further enhances its physical defense, letting almost no physically offensive pokemon break its Substitute after 3-4 boosts. 112 Speed investment with a Jolly nature assures that Zygarde can sub up in front of Heatran as it doesn't want to get wisped/toxiced. Rest of the evs go into Special Defense and HP to make it as specially bulky as possible. More HP EVs can be moved into Special Defense but 188 HP is the minimum to guarantee a 101 HP Substitute.

0 SpA Clefable Moonblast vs. 236 HP / 160 SpD Zygarde: 174-206 (41.8 - 49.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
0 SpA Tangrowth Hidden Power Ice vs. 236 HP / 160 SpD Zygarde: 168-200 (40.3 - 48%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
0 SpA Venusaur-Mega Giga Drain vs. 236 HP / 160 SpD Zygarde: 85-102 (20.4 - 24.5%) -- guaranteed 5HKO
0 SpA Tapu Fini Moonblast vs. 236 HP / 160 SpD Zygarde: 174-206 (41.8 - 49.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Hydreigon Dark Pulse vs. 236 HP / 160 SpD Zygarde: 169-201 (40.6 - 48.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
0 SpA Zapdos Hidden Power Ice vs. 236 HP / 160 SpD Zygarde: 188-224 (45.1 - 53.8%) -- 40.6% chance to 2HKO
8 SpA Magearna Fleur Cannon vs. 236 HP / 160 SpD Zygarde: 314-372 (75.4 - 89.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 SpA Gastrodon Scald vs. 236 HP / 160 SpD Zygarde: 72-85 (17.3 - 20.4%) -- possible 5HKO
0 SpA Tangrowth Giga Drain vs. 236 HP / 160 SpD Zygarde: 78-93 (18.7 - 22.3%) -- possible 5HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 236 HP / 160 SpD Zygarde: 174-205 (41.8 - 49.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 SpA Latias Draco Meteor vs. 236 HP / 160 SpD Zygarde: 336-396 (80.7 - 95.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Zygarde @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 240 Atk / 88 SpD / 180 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Thousand Arrows
- Iron Tail
- Extreme Speed
This set allows you to beat a lot of Zygarde’s usual answers. The idea behind this set is that most of Zygarde’s checks like Landorus-T and Clefable rely on super effective to 2HKO it. With your boosted stats, Zygarde can demolish anything that might be able to check it except for Mega Scizor and Tangrowth. Iron Tail is preferred over Outrage because Thousand Artows already beats Lando when boosted by WK, and being able to beat Bulu is awesome.
The EV spread lets you outspeed Mega Lopunny after a boost whilst living any attack from Tapu Koko.

I'm back.

SubToxic Zygarde
Zygarde @ Leftovers
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 188 HP / 252 Atk / 68 Spe /// 188 HP / 140 Atk / 180 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Toxic
- Protect / Dragon Dance
- Thousand Arrows

SubToxic Zygarde. Pretty simple set, if you don't want to run Tspikes Pex due to it making the team vulnerable to certain threats, you can instead just put Toxic on Zygarde and choose to forgoe either Protect or DD on the set, if you run Protect you can stall out Lando and Bulu much more easily, and if you run DD then you can be an actual offensive threat and be able to deal with mons like Ferro and M-Venu. The first EV spread is for the Protect variant, being faster than Zapdos so you can sub and scout for HP Ice while being able to live a Seismic Toss with said sub, the second EV spread has enough speed to outrun M-Lop at +1 (you need to run 152 speed to outrun Koko at +1 if you think M-Lop is irrelevant).

AV Zygarde

Zygarde @ Assault Vest
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 104 HP / 120 Atk / 16 SpA / 176 SpD / 92 Spe
Sassy Nature
- Extreme Speed
- Thousand Arrows
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Sludge Wave

General idea
Zygarde is a really bulky Dragon with the added benefit of running Thousand Arrows, which ignores Levitate and Flying pokemons.
Sometimes this Dragon has trouble to get past some threats without Aurora Veil/Screens support in order to set up a move and proceed to clean.
Assault Vest patches up this trait and forces us to run an AoA set, plain and simple.
Sludge Wave is here to murder Tapu Bulu (which can set-up in front of you thinking it is safe) thanks to the 4x supereffectiveness of Sludge Wave, whereas HP Ice is useful towards Landorus-T. These two threats are both outsped with this Spe if we consider their bulky sets.

EVs (spread) and item
92 Spe EVs ensures that we outspeed 16 Spe EVs Defensive Landorus-T by 2 points.
16 SpA Zygarde Sludge Wave vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Tapu Bulu: 248-292 (88.2 - 103.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock and Grassy Terrain recovery
16 SpA Zygarde Hidden Power Ice vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Landorus-Therian: 180-212 (47.1 - 55.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Tapu Lele Moonblast vs. 104 HP / 176+ SpD Assault Vest Zygarde: 168-198 (43.8 - 51.6%) -- 8.6% chance to 2HKO
252 SpA Tapu Lele Psyshock vs. 104 HP / 0 Def Zygarde in Psychic Terrain: 168-198 (43.8 - 51.6%) -- 9.4% chance to 2HKO
252 SpA Tapu Lele Psyshock vs. 104 HP / 0 Def Zygarde: 111-132 (28.9 - 34.4%) -- 4.1% chance to 3HKO
120 Atk Zygarde Thousand Arrows vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu Lele: 139-165 (49.4 - 58.7%) -- 98.8% chance to 2HKO
The remaining 120 EVs are put on Atk, I'd like to have 12 EVs more left, but I think they are still enough to work with.

Credits to Flame from Heaven and Finchinator for the HUGE suggestions on EVs and movepool.
P.S. Unfortunately, this set was already suggested in the previous "the next best thing thread", so I don't think this is allowed, right? Feedback needed. Maybe this things is more suitable for the "creative and underrated sets" thread.

Team(mates) support
Wish support is really nice to recharge Zygarde's HP throughout the match. SR support is mandatory to achieve some KOs.
Some form of Spe control (such as Thunder Wave) really helps to overwhelm Zygarde's checks with relative ease.

Blockgarde says hi
1526432270047.png

Wassup (Zygarde) @ Normalium Z
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 176 HP / 252 Def / 80 SpD
Impish Nature
- Block
- Thousand Arrows
- Rest
- Dragon Dance

Before I start, credit for this set fully goes to Caetano because I'm not smart enough to make an amazing set like this. Now that that's out of the way, lets talk about BlockGarde, a.k.a to Blocking God.

If you didn't already know, Z-Block not only traps opponents but also provides a plus 1 in defense, which is absolutely huge in helping this Zygarde set-up. Thanks to the set spread that maintains maximum physical bulk. 176 ensure that Seismic Toss is a 5HKO, and 80 Spd is dumped into Special Defense to ease set-up against different targets.

The actual premise of this set is simple. Lure nearly every single one of Zygarde's most popular counters, such as Tapu Bulu or Ferrothorn, and trap them with Z-Block and precede to Dragon Dance all other them as it cannot break you at +1 defense, while resting off any damages easily getting to plus 6 and destroying the opposing pokemon.

Reserving Specs

Zygarde @ Choice Specs
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature / Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Core Enforcer
- Earth Power
- Sludge Wave
- Hidden Power [Fire]
Blow most of your usual checks away (Lando, Bulu, etc.). Core Enforcer is the main STAB move with good power and 100% accuracy and higher spammability than Draco, it also doesn't let you become set up fodder after Draco. Earth Power provides a secondary STAB. Sludge Wave hits fairies and most notably Bulu very hard. HP Fire is to threaten Ferro, Skar, and Cele. If you have Zone then you can consider HP Ice to kill Lando after rocks but Core already 2HKOs and you outspeed and it can't really threaten you anyway. Timid Nature to outrun a lot of mons such as neutral base 100s but Modest can be used for more power (like killing bulu from full with 75% chance).

Resto-Chesto Zygarde

Zygarde @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 188 HP / 16 Def / 136 SpD / 168 Spe
Careful Nature
- Thousand Arrows
- Rest
- Dragon Dance
- Substitute / Extreme Speed / Coil

Zygarde is usually completely shut down by toxic, but not with this set. You can set up on toxic users that are otherwise pretty weak such as toxapex, Excadrill, or chansey, to name a few, and then proceed to rest and destroy your opponents team. Against other mons who don’t use toxic, a full heal from rest lets you get off a few extra dragon dances. Keep in mind that rest also heals scald burns and glare paralysis. The fourth slot is really dependent on what you expect zygarde to be setting up on. Substitute allows you to continue setting up weak toxic users after you have rested once, as tour opponent will try to toxic you again after you rest. Coil helps zygarde setup against physically oriented attackers and extreme speed lets you bypass revenge killers such as scarf Greninja. The evs let you make 101 hp subs, outspeed mega lopunny at +1 (scarf lati at +2), and hit a sp.def jump point.

Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 144 Atk / 252 SpA / 112 Spe
Naive Nature
- Sludge Wave
- Extreme Speed
- Thousand Arrows
- Core Enforcer / Draco Meteor

LO Mixed Garde, compromises some bulk in exchange for smashing typical checks while also still being able kill what most Zygardes are supposed to. Spread outspeeds Timid Heatran and the rest goes into power. Max Special Attack is ideal to give yourself the best chance of 2HKOing Defensive Lando with Core Enforcer and 2HKOing Bold Clef with Sludge Wave even with Protect taken into account. The rest goes into Attack to power up Thousand Arrows and Espeed, the former of which still does over 70 min to max HP Magearna and 2HKOes Defensive Zapdos most of the time and Defensive Celesteela with Rocks up. What makes this set distinct from the other specially oriented sets is that it can still utilize it's fantastic exclusive STAB effectively, and also still runs Espeed to still be able to pick off weakened offensive Pokemon like Greninja and Tapu Koko as well as enabling this set to KO Hawlucha with the combination of either Thousand Arrows or Core Enforcer + Espeed depending on which seed was used (though if it's Psychic Seed the roll isn't in your favor without rocks).

Zygarde @ Leftovers
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 224 HP / 252 SpD / 32 Spe
Careful Nature
- Thousand Arrows
- Sleep Talk / Thousand Waves
- Dragon Dance
- Rest

this zygarde set gives it reliable recovery allowing it to continuously switch into pokemon such as heatran without being afraid of wisp, being chipped down etc since it can just rest everything off, and means ur not messed over by tspikes. the spd is super helpful since you avoid 3hko from lando which is huge since landot is a large check to zygarde, while speed is for base 110s at +1. thousand waves allows it to catch pokemon off guard and remove lando for good after they think they can remove you, for example, and also helps vs many stall variants, lacking ww hippo, since you are able to use rest + thousand waves combo to pp stall a lot of pokemon. a lot of responses to this set involve switching around and trying to use sleep turns which waves prevents. on the other hand, sleep talk maintains constant pressure, since the chances of rolling tarrows soon add up. this pokemon also has ungodly bulk and can eat draco meteors for example and rest them off, while with a little chip on clefable it can bypass it too. hp ice from electrium z koko does just 40 too. you can also pair this with tspikes support for even more fun.
