Wintch Mob - in it to win it

Recently started listening to Wintch Mob, they're a pretty cool band. Good song, i listen to it repeditivley. 9/10.

casiotone for the painfully alone - i should have kissed you when i had the chance

oh dearrrr. so sad. but so pretty.

7.5/10

Dar Williams - The Ocean

and

Lucy Kaplansky - Ten Year Night

Latter one is something of a one-hit wonder, the former is just holy shit AMAZING. Even moreso when I realized that the quote of the 'second voice' in the lyrics didn't end at "after that well you've just got the bars", but extended to the end of the song...damn, it makes so much sense now.

Danzig - How The Gods Kill

Quiet, somewhat sad song, pretty un-Danzig really but it's got the standard awesome Danzig vocals and it's good musically.

Bat for Lashes - Seal Jubilee

My favourite track in Fur and Gold. It's very slow paced and has an a cappella feel, though other instruments can be heard. Khan's voice is deep and chants a lot. Towards the end it has a little climax, nothing in special but it adds a different touch to the track.

Defiance, Ohio - Oh, Susquehanna!

Real great folky punky kinda sound. Thats a pretty horrible description but it's the best i can come up with. They are also probably one of the biggest DIY punk bands still around.

8/10

Led Zeppelin - D'yer Mak'er

8/10

My third favorite on Houses of the Holy, the other two being The Ocean and The Crunge. I guess some random rap artist did a cover of it, or at least took the lyrics.

Defiance, Ohio - Oh, Susquehanna!

Real great folky punky kinda sound. Thats a pretty horrible description but it's the best i can come up with. They are also probably one of the biggest DIY punk bands still around.

fuck yes, defiance, ohio are absolutely wonderful. folk punk at its finest!

defiance, ohio - sweet dudes + sweet ladies

an all-around enjoyable track, one of my favourites from this band. if youre interested in checking them out, id recommend 'i dont want solidarity if it means holding hands with you', as its one of their most accessible. 'hey kathleen, are you hungry?'' is rather easy to get used to as well, but its REALLY in the vain of old against me! stuff, so if you dont like that, then you may not like it.

either way, 8/10

Interpol - Obstacle 1

One of my favorite Interpol songs, by far. It's fast paced like Evil and Slow Hands but less happy-go-lucky sounding, and has the kind of heavy material you might hear in some of their slower songs. It sounds different as well, with all of the instruments being used a equally to make a lot more noise than one might expect from Interpol. This song reminds me of a post-punk song in fact, especially since it sounds so much more different than other songs on Turn On the Bright Lights.

10/10

The Sound of Animals Fighting - Act 1: Chasing Suns

This is probably my favorite song off of Tiger and the Duke. Amazing guitar throughout, along with screaming/singing by Anthony Green. I really recommend TSoAF if you like stuff along the lines of The Mars Volta or Portugal. The Man; check out any of Acts 1-4 on TatD.

9/10

Alter Ego - Why Not

I love this.. band/outfit/artist/whatever you call it, it doesn't matter because Alter Ego produce some of the best grimey electronica around. It's just a pity that so many other bands are called Alter Ego, makes them a bitch to try and find on myspace.

Anyway this is one of the best dance tunes I've heard, it's from their new album and I will be buying it as soon as I get paid. 10/10

edit: found them! give it a listen

also glen i checked out the gaslight anthem, really good stuff i think i will invest in an album :) do they only have one?

Method Man - Release Yo' Delf

Method Man was always my favorite Wu Tang member growing up, with that fucking amazing voice. The original Tical still to this day is one of my absolute favorite hip hop albums ever, and this is my favorite track on it.

Also, agreeing with Defiance, Ohio as excellent folk punk, and as always <3 Glen for Casiotone For The Painfully Alone.

Trivium - ascendancy

Metalcore at it's best, though trivium in itself kicks the shit out of most modern metalbands. though, i must admit, i dont like their album The Crusade. this song helped me when i was bullied at school. it opened my eyes and i saw that i was much better than they were and i ascendended (like in the song) above them to move on with my life. not to mention it gave me the confidence to kick them hard in their balls. i was suspended for a few days, but they never bullied anyone again. ^_^

i agree, ascendancy is one of their strongest songs. i also agree that the follow-up album was pretty poor. most people here will write off Trivium as a generic metalcore band without giving them a chance but you and i know better eh

Hell Is For Heroes - Transmit Disrupt

Just found this CD in my bag and thought i'd give it a listen. Brings back great memories from my childhood, but as it turns out, isn't so listenable anymore. But, hey, isn't that the way of childhood? Still a nice fairly inoffensive sound though.

7/10

lol what are you talking about that album only came out two years ago

Guess it reminds me of the group in general (So probably The Neon Handshake as well) seeing as both albums sound more or less the same. THE POINT STILL STANDS!

And... Incubus - Beware! Criminal

I'm off to see these guys on sunday, so obligatory pre-gig listening is happening. I consider this song an instant classic simply because it exists on the album A Crow Left Of The Murder.

Desaparecidos - The Happiest Place on Earth

It's really dissapointing that this band didn't make it past one album. This is a really great song with incredible vocals but what else would you expect from Conor Oberst.

9/10

Porcupine Tree - Russia On Ice

Experimental and psychedelic for the first 7 minutes or so, then an angry riff enters that I just can't expel from my head. Best song on Lightbulb Sun after Feel So Low.

9.5/10

the gaslight anthem - i coulda been a contenda

one of my new favourite bands. really really good 'punk' music, i guess. the guy's voice just sounds so... travelled. this is my second favourite song on their absolutely stellar album 'sink or swim', my favourite being 'angry johnny and the radio'. but the chorus of this song is so passionate and so rough, you just can't disagree with anything he's saying because you know he means it.

if you like hot water music, there's a good chance you'll like the gaslight anthem.

Broken Social Scene ~ Lucky Ones

Yeeaaaahhhh... Yeaaaaaaaahhhh... Yeah, this song is good. I just started listening to a few songs by Broken Social Scene and they're pretty good. I like this song a lot. 9/10

Ticks & Leeches - Tool

9/10 - loses points for the boring two and a half minute "bass solo", other than that, it's one of the angriest damn songs I have ever heard, and its drum beat is amazing.

There isn't a bass solo...
I do know what you're talking about though. I think it improves the song by juxtaposing the quiet kind of emotional bit with the rest of the song's pure energy. It'd probably just be another wank screamo song otherwise.
