Loss Of A Child - Eve

One of my favourite 'Post-rock' bands. All of their albums just flow perfectly from one song to the next. 'Eve' is from their newer album, which is probably their weakest album, even though it is still a fantastic album.

Around about 5 minutes 30 they let you know why they are one of the best bands of their genre.

9/10

Built To Spill - Broken Chairs

A very good song with pretty awesome guitar riffs and a good melody. They even whistle in part of the song, which is kinda cool. The only problem I have with the song is that it kinda gets boring to me around the 6:30 mark (keep in mind its about an 8 minute song), so I usually just skip to another track around then. All in all:

9/10

...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead - Wasted State of Mind

Even if they have one of the most annoying band names to have to type, these guys make some pretty great music. The beginning of this song especially is pretty much mindblowing and then the middle gets a little boring. Maybe this is just my limited attention span speaking but the only thing keeping this song from being perfect is the length. I think 5 minutes is too much time for this type of song.

9.5/10

The Appleseed Cast - Sunlit Ascending

Beautiful stuff here. Peregrine is easily my favorite Appleseed Cast album, but this song blows me away every time every time the main instrumental part comes up. That's that one moment in the song that makes it all worth it, kind of like what I said about Sleep before. I wouldn't say it's the best track on Peregrine, since the entire album is awesome, but it's definitely a fantastic song.

9/10

Rage Against The Machine - Vietnow

I'm still as big a fan of RATM as I've ever been, and the news that they were going to reunite for a few one-off shows excited me a lot. I'm just sad they didn't play Reading in the end; maybe next year. This is one of their better songs in my opinion, certainly one of the best on Evil Empire. The heavy bass/guitar mixed with Zack de la Rocha's abrasive vocal style creates a fiery atmosphere that is pretty much still unrivaled in terms of politically-powered rock. 8/10

!!! - The King's Weed

No vocals, 1 minute track, it's more of an entrance to Hello? Is This Thing On? but it's still a pretty decent song, and the name is awesome.

5.5/10

Muse - Stockholm Syndrome

One of my favorite Muse songs, definitely. Driving guitar, bass, and drums throughout the verses, eventually building into an amazing piano-driven chorus. The lyrics are hopeless and the song itself is positively haunting, especially during the chorus when the singer's, pianist's, and synthesizer's melodies all intertwine.

10/10

Stockholm Syndrome is okay, though after a while listening to Muse, you'll realize it's a bit too repetitive, like Interpol.

Enigma - Gravity Of Love

Definitely my favorite song by The Screen Behind The Mirror, this song is beautiful, starts off low and progresses very slowly, the echoing female vocals are what make this song what it is.

10/10

Nightwish - Last of the Wilds

Their new album is absolutely a stellar release in every respect. This is the album's instrumental, a celtic metal jig that sounds like Ensiferum meets Flogging Molly minus vocals.

10/10 without a doubt

Sigur Rós - Viðrar vel til loftárása

Who doesn't love this song? With its long piano intro ranging almost minutes. From there, Jonsi's echoing voice finally plays a role though the piano and violin are still there. The magic truly begins two minutes later when it gets more silent, but then climaxes with multiple violins a guitar and drums. By the end, all is chaotic and suddenly crashes. This might be a reference to the song's name which translates to "Nice day for airplane strikes", which has nothing to do with the actual videoclip, which is about the love between two boys.

Machine Head - Descend the Shades of Night

In my opinion this is Machine Head's crowning glory. They've always been a fairly aggressive band but this album and this track in particular showed that they are actually very talented musicians and songwriters behind it all. Longer than their usual stuff, it starts off with some dark, clean guitar and progresses into a huge buildup stuffed with emotion.

However, it can be slightly repetitive - there's only so many times you can hear "DESCEND THE SHADES OF NIGHT" before you think 'well get on and descend then'. That said, it is a solid track and that small issue is really the only thing that irks me about it - 9/10

Pff, Burn My Eyes and The Blackening trump that.

Nightwish - Whoever Brings the Night

Rifftastic symphonic power metal. Killer song. I dig it very much.

10/10

Last np post for me:

Fireside - Hals Und Beinbruch

Swedish emo band. This is off their masterpiece album called Elite where they shed all their previous songwriting styles, went outside the box and came up with a wonderful album from front to back. I recommend this album for... well, for anyone, really. This band is incredible. This song is one of my absolute favorites from them, the frantic drums really give it a hectic feel while the repetitive guitar riff gives it control. The lyrics tell the story of a man and a woman at a bar and how they hit it off:

I didn't say a word, and you didn't seem to mind
I guess it didn't matter
I thought you were going home with some other guy
I guess you found me better

Only appropriate that I end on a 10/10.

animosity-holy shackles

animosity is a sweet band...people should give em a try soley cause i saw the singer smack my friend like a lil bitch with dildo repeatedly.

Doc Watson and friends- Tennessee Stud

A simple bluegrass ballad about the love between a man and a woman...and their respective horses, as well.

Every time I hear the song, or any piece of music from the first disc of this album, I can't help but think about my grandmother- she is the type of person that would leave one CD in her car on loop for weeks, and that is her favorite album by far.

Franz Ferdinand ~ This Fire

This song is pretty good. Got this CD for my birthday from my girlfriend (As well as Metric's second CD and a shirt <2) and it's pretty good. Favorite song on it, by far. 10/10

Beck - Girl

Don't usually listen to Beck, although I really like this song. imo this is the best song off of the Guero album. Absolutely love the chorus.

9.5/10

Circa Survive - Kicking Your Crosses Down

Not exactly their best song, but I like it. A bit more peaceful than what they normally play. The vocals never seize to amaze me though as they're quite intriguing.

7/10

Guns 'N Roses- It's Alright

I enjoy Axl Rose's interpretation of this Black Sabbath song more than the original version, probably because this version uses only a piano and Rose's vocals, and the extra percussion in the original just seems..distracting.

8.5/10

the cure - the last day of summer

thanks dm for recommending bloodflowers a long time ago. i'd say this is my favorite song in this album.

Tori Amos - Crucify

This is such a great emotional song. I love Tori's singing and piano work. Absolutely amazing.

10/10
