Metagame NP: NU (beta): Welcome to the NU Age (Combusken Banned)

Sigilyph is really powerful in this meta. There is no easy way to wear it down as its immune to SR, Takes no LO recoil, and already has good base stats. I don't know if people have done this, bit it is really hard to kill with Roost.

Coming from a conservative banner, I think Sigilyph really needs the axe.

Everything that I've been wanting to say about Sigilyph has already been said, but, I shall input my thoughts.
  • Sigilyph is way too strong for NU.
  • It has a godsend of an ability, allowing for free Life Orb and the only Flying-type immune to Stealth Rock.
  • It has a pretty cool typing, actually.
  • Wide movepool.
  • Hits above the crowded 95 tier, but still misses out on 100.
  • Versatile.
  • Reliable recovery.
These are just quick jots, I will actually write this in with more info soon.

That's good news. Sigilyph didn't have a counter. Eventhough it dies to Sucker Punch Sigiylph was ruling the tier pretty much.
People kept saying Spiritomb was a counter to it, but they don't realize many people, including myself have started running Dazzling Gleam on it.
Hope to see some new interesting stuff now.

It'll definitely do a decent job of filling the void Sigi left, but it lacks some of the important tools it had, like (obviously) lack of magic guard. Magic Bounce is a plus, though
Another few things it lacks is Raw Power and Speed. That said, 95/95 isnt bad at all in NU, and they can pack basically the same coverage!

Also on a slightly unrelated note I'd like to point out there's officially nothing in S-Rank lol.

On another separate note you ruined the tiering for Are NU The Best

So with Sigilyph now banned, who now takes the crown as the best poke in the tier? Shiftry, Feraligatr and Spiritomb are the currently the highest rated mons according to the viability rankings, all with A+ ranking. I personally think it's Shiftry (I think the SD set is drastically underused) but I feel like the consensus will be that it is Feraligatr given that the fact that it's difficult to prepare for both SD and DD (or even fast SD vs. bulky SD).

Though feraligatr is fairly predictable (the only sets really are SD and DD), feraligatr is certainly difficult to stop once it gets going as grass types such as sceptile and litigant can revenge kill sd but can be screwed by DD and ice punch whereas SD can set up on literally more than half of the tier. If running frustration, crazily and vileplume can stop it pretty well. If running ice punch, then bulky waters wall it. Nevertheless, it makes for an excellent late game cleaner and very few can stop it once it gets going. I would vouch for gate taking the crown, though shiftry is so boss right now.

Hello!, I'm new to forums so I don't exactly know if this is the best place to put this video. But I made a short video on Sigilyph, what work(ed) best with him and how to stop him, and why he was OP. Thanks :)

Sorry, I think you might be a tad late with your analysis. Sigilyph just got banned. But welcome to the forums!

I know! He's still very powerful in RU. It's a more logical tier for him having way better checks. I think Musharna sorta fills his role in NU decently. It lacks the speed and roost, but still gets moonlight. Although the Calm Mind set is superior build for Musharna.

Oh God Yes. Sigilyph is gone. I can build Teams Again! We will finally see creativity! As for Xatu, I don't think it'll be all that good as a fill for Sigi, mostly because of its less-than-stellar speed tier, and lack of magic guard.

(Small NitPick, but Ice Beam was pretty huge on Sigi IMO and Xatu doesn't get it.)

K so Sigilyph is banned, its got a supermajority already :D. I'm not available to do much else right now, but I'll be posting the votes later tonight
Is it possible to force convince everyone who voted to write something short about why they voted as they did, or did you already have that? It would be kind of interesting to know.

I don't really see the point in this, considering almost everyone who voted already wrote their opinion down in this thread :o

We all had to give our motivation in the PMs we sent to ras so I think he will post them here soon

That's one threat down, now it's time for Sand to be suspected I hope.
Judging from the ranks of Stoutland and Hippopotas, and from the fact that I have not seen Sand in ages, Sand is not even close to suspect worthy atm. Sand basically consists of 3 fixed mons + 3 other dudes that try to cover up for defensive synergy to handle offenisve threats when Sand fizzles out (or if/when Hippo dies); there isn't a lot of room for Sand teams to work with, making them less flexible and thus easier to prepare for.

Sand will become a lot worse with the rise of bulky teams and no Sigi to break through them. Also as Punch said nobody but me is using sand atm and I don't think it's anywhere near suspect worthy.

Nothing needs to be suspected presently, imo. Once Sigilyph is banned, the metagame is going to take a sharp turn. One of the faculties that Sigilyph is most famous for is its ability to get through stall-centered teams. As such, the metagame has taken on an air of hyper-offense. Once Sigilyph is gone, these teams will become significantly better. SO I think we should wait to see what the effect of Sigilyph's ban is before we start freaking out about stuff.

Maybe we should suspect Smash Pass. I remember it was banned in NU last year. With many Assault Vest receivers now on the rise, and with lesser Prankster users to mess up with the strategy, Shell Pass is not only viable, but also game-breaking in the tier. It allows poorly made teams to sweep much better ones.

The only two users of this strategy is Gorebyss and Huntail, but they have enough good points in a good typing and Defense to allow them to pull it off consistently and against many physical attackers in the tier.

If you want to see how painful SmashPass can wreck first hand, check out my team here: Sample Teams for Beginning in the NU Metagame
