Alright everybody! Its that time again! Now that UU has been out for a few months and all, i've decided that its time to get a beta version of RU up and running with the current UU stats we have. Please note that the tier isn't quite official yet (which means as of now no subforum, suspect tests, or onsite analyses) and as the uu meta changes around this metagame is very subject to change as well. However, a beta ladder will be put up on showdown soon, and you are free to explore and discuss the beta metagame in this thread to your heart's desire, have fun :).

Everything that is OU by usage/banned from UU is also banned, so ignore stuff like hawlucha and haxorus being below the cutoff.

Druddigon is not actually banned, inside joke

To start off a bit of discussion, some cool mons/big threats that are RU by usage atm include regular kyurem, shaymin, zoroark, froslass, reuniclus, Escavalier, toxicroak, and sableye.

Really looking forward to this. Don't see Kyurem lasting long at all tbh as it's a massive threat in UU atm and I can only imagine how much of a horror it will be here in RU. There's some really cool stuff down here though, but I'll keep it to just two that I'll go over.

Toxicroak: I'm a little surprised this dropped all the way to RU (for now) but I'm really happy about it. Gunk Shot getting the accuracy buff to 80% makes it much more usable. SD sets are going to be a pain as it's one of few Fighting-types that can single-handedly get past Fairy-types. Add in Drain Punch for a more reliable STAB option and Sucker Punch for priority, and this is only going to make Toxicroak that much better. Base 85 Speed is good enough and thanks to Swords Dance, it can boost its above average Attack to very powerful levels.

Escavalier: The only reason this fell to RU was the massive influx of Fire-types in UU. This thing is a beast. Assault Vest and Drill Run make Escavalier damn hard to handle without a Fire-type that can quickly eliminate it. As if that weren't enough, it also received a buff to Knock Off that lets it actually get past bulky Ghost-types with relative ease. And of course, it can also work well in Trick Room, just like always. Considering we have Slowking, Cofag, Reuniclus, and Aromatisse in the tier, it shouldn't be that difficult to make a Trick Room team now.

RU HYPE

ass vest volt turning raikou looks to be extremely strong, as it can outrun basically everything and nothing can switch into volt turn + coverage.

the hype i can't take it.

For those who follow these sorts of things, the RU Banlist was based on using a baseline of 1695 for stats-weighting, and the "three-month" weighting was actually computed the following way:
  • 20 parts Official UU (after the initial banlist was decided, after UU left Beta)
  • 3 parts March UU Beta
  • 1 part February UU Beta

Some quick thoughts:
we have several very good suicide hazard setters, in smeargle and froslass, with no real way to clear hazards. Hitmontop can spin, but thats about it, as defog distribution is gligar and togetic.... neither of which is exactly good (gligar especially due to how many things it wants to wall run knock off).

there's as much potential for full tr as i've seen in any meta since cofag era ru last gen. We have escavalier, rhyperior, megAbomasnow, exploud which can all abuse and a wide variety of tr setters in smeargle, bronzong, cresselia, cofag, jellicent, and reuniclus.

Kyurem also looks insanely strong... It can switch in on so many thing and just break everything. There are some checks like cobalion, but all of its checks still die to the correct coverage move, so whenever kyurem comes in theres a high likelihood of something dying.

I'd imagine that Gligar and Rhyperior's usage will be amazing this gen for RU. Both can run a nice amount of sets and have amazing stats to back them all up. Will be fun to watch how this gen unfolds nonetheless.

There is still kabutops and Cryogonal for spinning duties ( and Claydol but nobody likes Claydol )

I think that RU is gonna be sick this gen. Somethings to watch out for include Rain Teams (Tornadus can set up rain with prankster and there are some great swift swim sweepers such as Kabutops, Omastar, and Ludicolo (up until this month we would have had kingdra too :( )). General strong mon teams that use Kyurem / Shaymin / it doesn't really matter what else because those two together with their powerful special attacks and good speed can just wreck teams.

HYPE CORNER: Combusken has speed boost baton pass and doesn't suck thanks to not being Ninjask, and right now RU is really lacking in the scarf pokemon department making it less necessary to pass more than one boost (we had flygon up until this month also :/).

RU this gen is looking to be a bulky offensive tier, like it was last gen, however probably more offensive due to the inclusion of threats like Kyurem / Shaymin / Tornadus / Froslass. Agreeing with Imanalt that trick room teams are a massive threat with quite a few good setters such as Cofagrigus, Cresselia, and Reuniclus, and many good abusers like Mega-Abomasnow (one of the two megas we have), Escavalier, Rhyperior, and DRUDDIGON.

Definitely pumped for RU this gen, lfgi ~n_n~

the hype is hele, i am ready

gonna be spamming spikes+mega-snowman+otr reuniclus 'til something there gets banned, lookin' too strong imo

real talk, i'd be totally down w/a drudd ban, tired of it already tbh

I would like to have fun with Reuniclus but I see loads of Escavalier running around with either Megahorn or Knock off or both... ;~; Can't wait to get back into RU. It has been way too long. I guess Sableye can help me out a bit with crippling it.

WELCOME RU! :] More tiers, such fun.

did you get this approved

One thing I immediately noticed was that Jellicent is allowed in RU. Which is a pretty big deal because I've actually been able to use it efficiently even in OU. I will almost certainly find a way to abuse this thing. Regular Medicham is another thing that looks really threatening. I really like Slurpuff, even though its Belly Drum set has horrendous coverage, it can definitely sweep entire teams. And I'm guessing Gourgeist will serve as an RU Trevenant, although I'm not sure how important spinblocking will be in RU. Speaking of spinners, i'm glad Hitmontop fell, since it's a little outclassed by Donphan at its role of AV Spinner (yes, believe it or not, Donphan actually outclasses something). It could shine in RU, though. Oh and Cresselia. Cresellia suffers from the the Knock Off buff and the fact that many ghosts join it, but even so, it's still an extremely potent wall with massive defenses.

All in all, this seems like a relatively slow tier for the moment. TR will probably be pretty big.

Top threats so far:

Yanmega: This thing is deadly. Few good checks for it, and if anything, it's Registeel, AV Dragalge (which is cool stfu), and Togetic. Stealth Rocks obviously keeps it in check.

Reuniclus: CM Reuniclus is insanely good. No need to say more about that. I wanna try it on Trick Room, but haven't gotten around doing that yet.

Shaymin: SubSeed, Life Orb, whatever, this thing is godly.

Escavalier: Main reason to run HP Fire over Ice on Shaymin. This thing is a threat.

More to come once I play some more.

In all honesty, kyurem is gonna be banned before we realize that it is RU. Some of the drops that seem interesting are :

Azelf This thing has very high speed, high attacking stats and superb coverage. It can go special or physical or even mixed and can also boost with nasty plot. I am afraid that it could be too much for the tier.

Cobalion With its good bulk it can easiely nab a sword's dance boost and sweep with close combat and its high speed. Fairies are not problems for him due to stab iron head. It can also act as a good pivot with volt switch. Assault vest anyone?

HYPE TRAIN WOO WOO!

Anyway the things that look like bigass theats (aside from what has already been said) are:

Tangrowth: It works well in UU so god knows if it'll last more than a month but the Assault Vest set is a great bulky mixed attacker and Regenerator is perfect for it.

Amoonguss: Spore got nerfed but still a pretty nice wall

Sableye: we all know how Sableye works, Piority Will O Wisp and Taunt makes it a scary pokemon for both Offensive and Defensive teams

Exploud: Slow and Frail (But too fast for TR ;-;) But Scrappy Boomburst HURTS

Cinnicino: Was a decent threat in Gen 5 RU and still has potential to hurt in XY, on the other hand it's kinda meta dependent so who knows.

Do you think we could get a list of viable mons? Not just the ones in the OP, literally everything usable. Just so we know what we're dealing better.

I feel like Yanmega could be very good in this meta. A choice specs compound eyes set could really work given the slow speed of this meta generally, and if your team happens to have trouble with fast threats such as Raikou or Shaymin a Speed Boost set could be pretty great. Looking outside of obvious threats, I feel as if Avalugg could be a common abuser of the slow meta as well. While one of its best tools in Gyro Ball is no longer an option, it can function as a type of supporter. It can also just be an offensive Rapid Spinner and utility mon which counters Trick Room, which is t a fantastically simple niche.

Not only, but RU has a goood number of Ghosts such as the 4 Gourgeists, Jellicent, Sableye, Doublade, Cofag and some old faces that may be coming back like Rotom and Spiritomb and Dusknoir, and those Ghosts can give the spinners a hard time. Defog is indeed limited but even for that there are cool Defiant users such as Tornadus and maybe Braviary, and even Primeape, not forgetting Competitive Milotic and Wigglytuff.

I can't wait to play it!

If I read this correct, I found that Haxorus is not banned in RU, which is crazy, considering it didn't fall one, but two tiers down from OU, which is probably due to the addition of fairies.

Anyways, THANKS FOR THE RU BETA LIST!
