NP: UU - Bye Bye Bye

Ok, these gimmicks are starting to get a tad bit crazy even for moi. ScarfLeafeon lead, like really? But one of the cool ones I've seen was a lvl 1 Kanga Endeavor lead. Scrappy makes it pretty awesome.
Tell me about it lol. I just saw a team with Attract Sharpedo and CB Sceptile. I'm also seeing an increase in parafusion, which isn't too common and is normally considered a "noob strategy." Well, considering that hax is never on my side, it can actually be a good way to force switches. I'm at 1490-ish CRE on an alt and I'm still seeing pretty crazy gimmicks from similarly ranked players. Definitely the most diverse round of UU yet.

there's no cute way to kill it and imo that makes it the most solid defensive pokemon currently.
Blaziken can do nice damage with his wallbreaking skills, as well as absorb will-o-wisp. Unfortunately not many people use him because of other fire typed alternatives like arcanine, houndoom, and moltres. Other then that though there arent many other solid counters.

Spiritomb is a great pokemon , it can do a ton of things, burn support, pursuit trapping, alakazam ocutner and more.

Parafusion honestly is the worst imo (throw attact in there to) as it eliminates skill and precision. It turns the game into a series of cross your fingers and hope you can move. Like Draco, luck isn't on my side so it gets frustrating when I lose because of luck rather then being outplayed.

Granted other gimmicks do have some benefits

I hate to bring it up and ruin my surprise/have it show up everywhere on the ladder for a while, but there's a certain Quick Feet user that can give Swellow a run for its money. Especially if you can get a SD in, where it has the potential to 2HKO Registeel (!) with Facade after rocks, and can outrun and OHKO Mismagius with Crunch. Stuff like Sceptile and Technitop can gank it, and random stuff with Protect can stall out the poison/burn, but it really is awesome. And a good status absorber if you can get it out beforehand.

What else do you guys think would be an ideal recipient of Calm Mind in UU? Particularly, who can be passed to relatively easily and can do huge damage with a single Calm Mind. Also, what else is good for passing Calm Mind right now?

As mentioned before, Nidoking is a monster if you can pass it Calm Minds. Also, I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but if you have Wish on Espeon as well, you can CM+Wish and Pass to Electrode (So long as it's not on EQ or something like that) and watch him outspeed almost everything and rape. Taunt can stop Hazing Milotic, and you can't get Roared out either due to Soundproof (So Whirlwind is the only way to phaze it, something that can be stopped by Taunt).

So the Sub + 3 attacks Marowak actually worked well, and it OHKOs Registeel. That's always fun.

Something I've noticed is that paralysis is becoming extremely popular in this meta. So many things are throwing Thunder Wave out there. Maybe this is a time for Lanturn to shine? I'd be willing to bring my Specs Lanturn back. Ground-types aren't good at absorbing Thunder Wave as most users like Lanturn and Slowking will just fire a Surf at their ass. Dugtrio usage has dropped a shitload too, so Lanturn can do extremely well, not to mention it can also serve as a check to failtres.

shrang actually makes a good point - the only thing holding Electrode back is his lack of offenses. Pass him a Calm Mind or two, and you have a threatening pokemon that even some scarfers can't outspeed.

Or, you could pass to Milotic. Yes, Milotic. You think that it's hard to kill Milotic already? Well, try killing it when it has Calm Minds under its belt. Just avoid Wood Hammer.

Is anyone finding it hard to get motivated and playing?? Sure, abusing NUs and different stuff are fun, but it gets boring after a while. This round has a reasonable chance of becoming a "No Suspects" round, so there isn't really much incentive for me to play at the moment. Anyone else feel the same??

I feel this round has been increasingly annoying but really fun though... I hate losing as much as the next guy, but I dont mind losing when there was a real challenge and good game with minor hax involved....Also the "no suspect" thing, i agree with you. With No Suspects its hard to build a stable team without taking into this metagame's actions and reactions to "certain suspects." and with all the NU's its gonna be really really hard to build a team without it being extremely weak to something...That's the "annoying" part lol...with everything having equal use and so many different threats ooo wee hahahaha

I mean I've found it fun. I know Synre's been messing around with teams, and I've technically messed around because I've been using Solarbeam Chansey without incentive to change it to Softboiled lol (must have used it in at least 10 games).

Why would you complain about a suspect-less metagame? That's exactly the goal of the tiering process. Go explore with different Pokemon and see how they work in UU; we've already basically established what is good in the metagame, go find some new stuff that might be good.

I've been CM passing from Espy to Arcanine with a moveset of Flamethrower/Dragon Pulse/HP Grass/Morning Sun. With Intimidate, Arcy can somewhat dull physcial hits as well as turning into a special tank with the CM boosts given by Espeon. With only 3 physcially oriented attackers faster than it in UU (Scyther, Dugtrio, and Swellow), it's not exactly easily revenged.

Arcy wants ES for the aforementioned threats, who are all very frail, and I was thinking of putting it over Morning Sun. However, this severely shortens its longevity as SR damge and LO recoil add up quickly. Azumarill revenges this with ease, and you'll have to find something that can abuse the surefire Aqua Jet, like Poliwrath.

Funny you mention it because I was actually going to make a team with lanturn. xD

Also, I do agree with you shrang, I've gotten bored, but this is your chance to use whatever the hell you want and actually do "ok" with it. I've used I don't know how many teams this round and even some ones I thought were good failed. I have finally found one that's been doing really well actually (when I feel like playing xD) and I took a look at it and go "holy shit" a good subpuncher will fuck me up lol. Just make a team you think is solid, test it out, and see how far you get. I like all of the experiementation this round, it makes me actually think when I'm battling instead of knowing 4/6 members of everyone's team. Just have fun with it! Sorry about my grammar...I'm not fully awake yet...yes, I'm a bum. <.<

Seriously it's like all the Slowkings and Uxies of the metagame just show their faces to spam T-Wave like there's no tomorrow. And Ground types can't even reliably switch in, reasons for which you've stated. And yeah Duggy is shit. It's just fodder for stuff to come in and set up. In my case, Donphan to Rapid Spin and Azumarill to set up a sub.

Thunder Wave Qwilfish hmmm

I find that status in general is getting a good foothold in this metagame - defensive Spiritomb and general Paralysis and 'Wisp stuff are annoying me, considering 5/6 of my team are physical :s

On an unrelated note, what do you guys think about Aggron this format?

Specifically, Sub Aggron. I was thinking it could really hurt this time around. Sub blocks Will-o-Wisp and scouts a switch and Focus Punch + Head Smash dominates most walls in the game right now. Aggron also has a lot of useful resistances, most notably ice and dark, and Substitute can scout for Fighting/Ground moves and gives you a free shot at their user.

I was contemplating modifying the CroakDoom(Stealth Rock really annoys Houndoom, argh...) concept and making a battery with SubPunch Toxicroak and SubAggron, doubling up on their strategy like I think CroakDoom doubles up on Nasty Plot, and then throwing in Nasty Plot Mismagius to complete the main battery.

Mismagius can come in on Fighting and Ground attacks aimed at Aggron, while Toxicroak can absorb water attacks from bulky waters. In addition, both Toxicroak and Aggron will wail on any wall and help a late game Mismagius sweep go through easier. Dark attacks aimed at Mismagius can go to Aggron along with Ghost attacks.

Aggron's slow speed means paralysis hurts it less, too, although it's still annoying.

Anyone else thinking of using Rest Talk Milotic with all this status flying about?

SolarBeam Chansey? Wow, how does that work? Does it actually do anything?

And as for your second paragraph, I couldn't agree more.

Oh yeah he's pretty awesome. I've moved away form Sub due to his got-darned slow speed. Often times I don't even feel like using it due to most Sub (Rhyperior) users being more dangerous. Still, your strategy looks good to me, make sure to come back with information on said strat.

As I've stated many times (and probably ignored) RP Magnet Rise Aggron is the only one for me. I actually run Passho Berry just to **** with Milotic... Although the power loss is noticeable.

Edit: Maybe Softboil is next to Solarbeam and your to lazy to change it?

SolarBeam Chansey? Wow, how does that work? Does it actually do anything?

I think he meant that he accidentally put in SolarBeam instead of Softboiled because they are right next to each other on the move selection list and has had no reason to be like "shit I need to change that..."

Anyone else thinking of using Rest Talk Milotic with all this status flying about?

Been running that as my Milotic for 3 rounds already. Unless you have a cleric if your Recover Milotic gets poisoned it's kinda useless. I've noticed that Restalk has gotten more popular though and it's good that people have noticed it can be better than the standard on the right team instead of sticking the first set in the analysis.

Calm Restalk Milotic is really hard to break though. I'm sure people run some Defense ev's with Hidden Power Grass for Gatr and Azu, but I've moved on to Surf/Ice Beam due to Toxicroak being everywhere and I have Tangrowth for most physical attackers. Imo Restalk should be used more as a Special sponge to absorb status and be a tad bit more offensive. My Milo has 2HKO'd Venu switch-ins a lot and can actually beat Rotom by surviving 2 Thunderbolts and 2HKOing back with Surf, while being able to outrun Torterra and co. I don't miss the Defense at all, but I guess you'd have to devote a physical wall to use this type of Milo. I just love it when Defensive Venu's run Leaf Storm and it only does like 66% and are forced to switch as I rest. Even offensive ones without Life Orb can't OHKO if I'm at full health.

Where are Sceptile and Feraligatr?
Damn, they disappeared from Shoddy.

Although i see some Leech Seed Sceptiles... but Feraligatr is nowhere to be seen.
Maybe with this new metagame we should "reinvent" those pokes.

I ran an Earth Power Donphan for this reason : P.

wait... why is parafusion one of the "worst" tactics?

It really isn't. People say that because it is definitely one of the dickiest strategies in the game, possibly more annoying than paraflinching from stuff like serene grace iron head jirachi or air slash togekiss in OU.

Both strategies "prevent" people from attacking; therefore, they rage and call it one of the "worst" tactics.
