np: UU - Rain Drops Keep Falling on my Head

This is slightly off topic but sPeakink of specail attackers does anyone else miss roselia. It truly filled an unfilled position and would really staple my teams together with both speed power specail defense and sleep

I also wanted to comment on this. Recall that Houndoom's STABs are Fire and Dark and that Raichu's STAB is Electric. Now recall that some of the premier walls in the tier include Registeel and Slowbro. Houndoom's STABs allow it to nail each for an OHKO at +2, meanwhile the standard Raichu doesn't even carry a move that's super effective against Registeel. Houndoom's typing and immunities give it a very reasonable chance to switch in and setup, whereas Raichu just doesn't have such opportunities. It is also worth noting that Houndoom's base 110 SpA stat is significantly larger than Raichu's base 90. Speed aside, it's also worth noting that Houndoom's premier STAB in Fire Blast hits substantially harder than Thunderbolt. Houndoom's got a ton of things going for it over Raichu, despite being slower. This isn't even considering the possibility of Houndoom going mixed.

I also really don't think the tier needs a replacement for Raikou. Everything that combines to make Raikou so threatening is simply lacking in such abundance with every other Electric-type.

You do realize that Raichu learns Focus Blast right? But I get most of your point. I also retracted my previous point so that's all good.
Slowbro is definetely not a premier wall in UU anymore. Slowking marginally better at taking on the special threats that keep popping up.

I need to speak otherwise of Luxray: it doesn't outright suck.

In fact, the coolest set is the mixed one, capable of doing huge amounts of damage.
Crunch/Superpower/Thunderbolt/HP Grass or Ice. Crunch and Superpower has nice coverage... and that's coming from a 123 base atk.
Thunderbolt and HP Grass/Ice are the obvious choices.

About Venusaur: Ariados is the absolute best counter. Yes, really. I'm serious. Yes.

Raichu: well, base 100 speed is good enough for UU.
Nasty Plot is nice.
In fact, it's the only boosting electric poke (not counting Raikou). That's why i mentioned it.

Slowbro X Slowking: Well, Slowbro is still the best CM poke... (which no one uses anymore due to Venusaur and Raikou all over the place)

Luxray is outright outclassed by Magmortar, except for the SR weak. 'Nuff said.

Really, if you guys want to use an electric type if/when Raikou gets banned, use Pikachu. I'm serious. It's much stronger than Raichu(before a nasty plot anyway) and can go mixed(bye bye Chansey), "only" at the cost of 10 speed and garbage defenses(but then you should always use Substitute).

No. Pikachu sucks. Raichu is better. Oh yes it is, believe me.

Raichu can also go mixed... it doesn't do as much damage as Pikachu... and then i just use Luxray if i need a mixed electric poke.
The bolded part is the one that sets Magmortar and Luxray apart. Of course, Magmortar is better.

Pikachu is too frail to be useful. Raichu at least can take a attack. Of course, it doesn't hit as hard... but that's why Nasty Plot is there.

lol gonna be hard to say all of this without sounding like a prick

So If the Raichu user is reeealy lucky, he can switch in on a Thunder Wave, set up, and focus blast for a KO. And get revenged by priority after.

Raichu still gets paralyzed switching in on thunderwave :/ and i really wouldnt want to switch my raichu into registeel because of EQ

Luxray only has 120 base attack...and Superpower has been a real let down for luxray..only able to do real damage to chansey and clefable...and with it's speed your looking at 95/70 special offense...lol not really threatening

About ariados..not every insomia pokemon can just switch into venasaur...ariados still cant stop the Sword Dance set :/

Luxray is outright outclassed by Magmortar, except for the SR weak. 'Nuff said.

Yes i would agree that luxray is semi-outclassed by magmortar...but it gets the better of ability of switching in easier...

Pikachu is TOO predictable...lol i dont think anyone will allow pikachu to sub up unless pikachu has encore...but with it's paper like defenses when do you find an opportunity to sub?

I said earlier that EQ isnt a 100% chance KO and it never 1KOs with SR.

Fire pokemon are immune to burn but electric pokemon can get paralyzed? SHENANAGINS!

Oh Ariados can. Just tweak the EVs a little.
And start firing off Poison Jabs and Sucker Punches off his huge 90 base attack.

About Superpower Luxray: What about the Regis? Or Umbreon?

Raichu can do all of those things as well and can somewhat take a hit. (especially if it's special)

Pikachu can't really take... ANYTHING. Raichu can live... say a Shadow ball from missy, while Pikachu is always OHKO. It's also got middling speed.

Pikachu's terrible. It's terrible in UU AND terrible in NU. Don't bother with it.

I think if anyone is looking for an offensive electric type they are going to be finding the mos effective choice in SubCharge Rotom. Its actually a decent mon its just outclassed by Raikou for now.

Standard Registeel UU tank vs Nasty plot raichu...
EQ does 79.4%- 93.9% seems like a KO to me with SR

lol and yes electric types can get paralyzed unless they have volt absorb or motor drive

Raichu can do all of those things as well and can somewhat take a hit. (especially if it's special)

Pikachu isnt terrible lol just has to be played right...I honestly say pikachu is just better off without substitute as no one is going to allow it to sub, and should be replaced without encore.

Oh Ariados can. Just tweak the EVs a little.

About Superpower Luxray: What about the Regis? Or Umbreon?

Ariados still isnt going to do that much to venasaur...especially if venasaur just decides to Sword Dance instead of Sleep Powder on your switch..

Luxray mixed superpower vs standard Registeel UU tank...
56%-65.9%...and then you have your attack drop so not a 2HKO while registeel can paralyze or EQ you since your defense drop as well...

for the other regi's i'm not going to do damage calcs...I'm sure regiice gets OHKO after SR and Regirock easily takes a superpower

Luxray mixed Superpower vs Curse Umbreon
68%-80.2%...yes that does hurt umbreon, but umbreon will just heal right when you attack...so now you have a Luxray with attack and defense drop allowing umbreon to set up curse on you

Actually, Noctowl is the best Venusaur counter, IMO. You just have to utilize Reflect and some defense EVs as an SD Power Whip still hurts, but Night Shade and Hypnosis make up for that.

Well: about the defense drop, let's call it even (Intimidate).
Or you can try your luck with Rivalry (ok, Registeel doesn't care about it). Though Rivalry isn't the best choice for Luxray... for Nidoking it's a nice option, but for Luxray...

And against Cursebreon: LO Modest Magmortar Fire Blast has a good shot at 2HKO it. I did it thrice already (without SR).
Registeel? lol

Now we know who's better.

Ariados: c'mon, feel the irony!

I think if anyone is looking for an offensive electric type they are going to be finding the mos effective choice in SubCharge Rotom. Its actually a decent mon its just outclassed by Raikou for now.

Duh yea, Rotom is clearly the second best electric sweeper. Electric + Ghost is great offensive and defensive typing. There are quite a few Pokemon who can't hit Rotom for neutral, and that's where it sets itself apart from the others (such as Raichu).

sub leech seed set beats noctowl and Noctowl gets beat by SD set...

+2 Life Orbed Return vs 252 HP/252 SpeDefense Noctowl..
does 90.8%- 106.9%...with SR OHKO

+2 Life Orbed Return vs 252 HP/ 252 Defense Noctowl
does 62.1%-73.3% So it has a chance with Defense EVs

speaking of toxicroak... i love me some subpunch toxicroak. it won't sweep like the other two sets can be a focus punch from that attack + stab isn't anything to joke about. + the mind games from sucker punch.

The sd set seems to fail for me bc of the accuracy of cross chop and stone edge.

The main problem with Pokémon like Ariados and Noctowl isn't their ability (or inability) to counter Venusaur. The problem is that their usefulness outside of that niche is severely limited. You are much better off just using something that can check Venusaur and perform other duties instead of sacrificing a team slot for a "100%" counter.

That's where Hypnosis helps, but that's it. Also, where is it getting +2? Last time I checked, they always sleep powder first, and then SD. >_>

I'm also assuming those calcs are without Reflect. Reflect provides team support and Night shade does some damage (3-4 KOs most pokes). Otherwise, its usefulness is severely limited....

Cant always assume they use sleep powder...Sometimes they just trade that for synthesis...or sometimes they just SD right away instead of using sleep powder...And since Noctowl will be switching into venasaur it wont find time to use reflect...

Yes, i forgot about Clear Body.
So Registeel doesn't care about both abilities of Luxray.

About Rotom... let's see:

Rotom
: cool typing, many opportunities of setting up, trolling speed, decent power.
Downsides: lacks a real set up move (Charge Beam is really unreliable), Pursuit bait, bad defenses.

Raichu: Faster, has Nasty Plot, Encore and has a good movepool. Has more potential of sweeping than Rotom.
Downsides: low defenses (takes special hits better than Rotom, but it's really frail on the physical side), Dugtrio bait. Harder to set up with. Not so good typing.

Raichu can be more dangerous if you let him set up. Rotom is easier to fit and to "keep the flow" of a team.

Let's call it even.

Rotom's defenses are not that bad which is coupled with his great defensive typing. Immunity to Quake and priority is no joke

Sorry, but 50/77/77 without EVs are bad.
I mean, Blaziken takes attacks better than Rotom.

And it's exactly it's typing that makes Rotom so useful (to a point where it's defenses do not care, since this poke is immune and resists so much shit it isn't funny).
