Project NU Teambuilding Competition [Voting Stage]

Status
Not open for further replies.
Let's get this upcoming year started off on the right foot, here is the core for round 16;
334.gif
+
221.gif

Altaria has recently dropped back to NU and has proven itself to be a very competent force in the metagame with it being able to run a multitude of sets to accommodate different roles on a team as needed. Dragon Dance and Choice Specs are two sets that make Altaria a formidable offensive threat while a defensive set can also be used as a more reliable fire type check and cleric. Piloswine is a very reliable rocker that pairs well with Altaria due to their good type synergy together with Piloswine being able to chew ice attacks that give Altaria trouble.

The Submission period for this round will end on Tuesday, hope to see some innovation.

For the sake of consistency, any teams I get today should not use the new drops. However teams can be built with them in consideration.

I wanted to use power swap altaria because I think it's a really fun set that can catch players off guard when set up to like +6/+6 with their megadino/musharna or when you want to pass draco meteor spatt drops to your opp, pilo is just standard.standard rocker. I added weezing as a fighting resist since offensive altaria is pretty meh at taking hits, also my cm dino/malamar check. After that I added three revenge killers/fast threats to help weaking the opposing team for pilo to take them out with ice shard and altaria to clean up with draco + power swap. HP psychic on scep is a fun lure that allows primeape to put in a lot work after you weaken garbodor/weezing.

So I went with a cool Power Swap Dragon Fang Altaria rather than the Specs or DD set and the loss of power is noticeable but having reliable recovery allows Altaria to check Fires and Waters lacking Ice coverage much better. With Power Swap you can give Special attackers your SpAtk drops and continue to Drop Dracos without having to switch out and loose momentum. I have Dragon Fang since you will be spamming Draco most of the time and LO wears you down (plus you dont get 2hko on Lix with LO anyways with Fire blast). Power swap also allows you to deal with mons trying to set up on you and allows you to steal their boosts which is hilarious. Pilo is standard SR variant and forms the nice offensive/defensive core with Altaria. Next up is SD scyther to round out the core which was weak to Hp Ice Sceptile. It also provides a win con, Malamar check, and momentum and checks a ton of mons and uses them as setup fodder with its sheer bulk vs alot in this meta. Hitmonchan gave me more priority, and I needed hazard control at this point for my 2 flyers. It also acts as a soft check to alot of special atkers with AV and can heal off most of the damage vs them. The speed is for Modest Aurorus. Skuntank helped me deal with Psychics/Ghosts which annoyed the rest of the team, more priority, stallbreaker and dealt with CM Psychics/Mega Dino which threatened the team. Scarfed Rotom gave me some much needed speed, formed a nice momentum core with Scyther, and gave me a decent answer to Lix which the rest of the team struggled with and it's just amazing in this meta atm. This team is fairly offensive and doesnt have a switch in to everything but is meant to be played aggressively and relies on priority to clean up after weakening the team. I built this before the Abomasnow drop however most of the team can Outspeed and OHKO even though nothing likes switching in if it predicts correctly. Enjoy!

So the first thing I noticed when looking at this core was the how weak it is against Special Samurott or any attacker with Water + Ice coverage. The solution I went for was AV Lanturn due to its ability to sponge any hit and respond with a STAB Electric move and getting switch advantage (Speed EVs to outspeed Adamant max Speed Piloswine).
Then adding Garbodor to answer Fighting types (I'm mainly looking at you Sawk) and physical SD sub Sceptile + giving the team Spikes support.
To add some speed control and a late game sweeper I added Scarf Sawk (I decided to use Mold Breaker to hit Weezing with EQ and to avoid 50:50s with teams that have Garbodor + Mesprit).
The last team slot goes to the arguably best NU Pokemon right now being Special Samurott adding more priority + an answer to Quagsire and fast Ground types.
Lastly I struggled a lot against bulky setup sweeper like Musharna so I added a heat Haze Altaria set that can beat any setup sweeper that doesn't have Ice coverage. (Flamethrower to hit Steel Types that ignore Toxic and Abomasnow now I guess)

So I started off with DD outrage altaria which hits really hard, despite everyone putting it down. Set is p much standard for ddtaria, hits base 70s, yaddyadda. Eq hits lix, which is huge lol. Standard Pilo with a bit of creep, its a nice ice resist which alt appreciates. Next we have mush because the core is weak to stone edge sawk. Sceptile gets added for a switch in to water types and provides the second fastest pokemon in the tier, there rly is no reason not to use this mon lol. Steelix is put on the team to give the fourth best mon in the tier, best rocker, best norma|flying resist, best cm psychic check(that's right, fuck you skuntank), just an all around amazing mon. Hariyama is the best fire resist in the tier, provides a secondary ice resist too, also a water check
The teams for this week were donated by AuRo^ BelmontGabriel Oda and TTFTW. All of you will have until Friday to vote so be sure to pick your favorite before then.

Team 4 takes it so lolbro and his serious nature Steelix win this round, congratulations to him!

Here is your mon for round 17
460.gif

The most viable drop we got this January, its mixed offensive stats means Abomasnow is able to run a ton of different offensive sets. Swords Dance and Mixed variants have been the most common in NU the last few days. I'd like some teams with this mon before people realize it isn't that good ;o. You have until Wednesday next week to send me teams.

I started with a mixed Abomasnow Set. Blizzard is a very nice Stab, and Ice Shard is a strong Priority, Earthquake is a good move to lure in Fire Types such as Magmortar and Wood Hammer is my Grass Stab to beat Water Types and Hit Mons like Hariyama which is a very common Mon in this Meta.
Because Abomasnow can switch into many Water Types in this Tier I decided to choose a Fire Type as my next member. Magmortar is a very good Balance Breaker because of it's good Movepool and strong Special Attack Stat.
These two Mons guarantee a good Matchup aganist Balance.
My next choice is a very good Revenge Killer, Specs Sceptile. Because common Switch-Ins to Magmortar and Abomasnow are Mons like Hariyama and Magmortar, my own Magmortar and my Abomasnow can get chipdamage and that will open a door for Specs Sceptile.
Vullaby is my Hazard Remover and a Mon that I like to use because it can deal with strong Special Attacker and can Taunt Musharna to prevent a Sweep (And Overcoat is a very cool Ability with Abomasnow in my Team).
My next choice was Steelix because of my lack of normal resists and because I needed Rocks.
The last Member of my Team is a Calm Mind Musharna with Baton Pass, because Sawk is a very good Mon in this Meta and with this 5 Mons i would straight up lose to it. Baton Pass is to pass the Special attack Boost to Mons like Sceptile and Magmortar.

I wanted to build around mixed Abomasnow in an offensive team with some Pokemon, that are not standard in offense. So i added a offensive Weezing with Toxic Spikes and 2 attacks to Abomasnow. Abomasnow and Weezing destroy most of the standard balance builds, thanks to their coverages moves. As an offensive Core both Pokemon are pretty much to slow to do something against other offensive teams, Choice Scarf Sawk was my first choice so the team had something against Sceptile, Swellow and other fast Pokemon. The team needed rocks and something ,that can grab momentum for Abomasnow and Weezing, Mawile and Rotom were the Pokemon I was searching for. Mawile gives the team a good backbone with the steel/fairy typing.Baton Pass and Superfang are important utility moves for the team, baton pass gives slow momentum for abomasnow and weezing, super fang is for Pokemon like Steelix or Garbodor. They allways lose 50 % of their health, so my wallbreakers can do they jobs much easier.Rotom is the fast momentum grabber ,it can also break more defensive teams.I realised, that I am 6:0`d by Magmormar and Sword Dance Samurott ,so I added a special Altaria to the team as a check for both Pokemon.

I started off with an special Abomasnow with Earthquake + Wood Hammer to lure in things like Magmortar and Hariyama which is helpful for Specs Pyroar, the second member of my team. These two are very weak to Stealth Rocks so i decided to use Steelix + Pelipper (Charti Berry to check rock type Mons such as Rhydon) for my own Rocks, Hazard Control and a Fire-Water-Grass Core. The next member of my team is AV Hariyama, because this helps me against things like special Sceptile and Magmortar which otherwise would are huge Threads to my team. Scyther was my last choice, becasue its a second Fighting Resist, a Win-Con and it gives me a Volt-Turn-Core with Pelipper.

This is a really fun team I've been using lately, ice is an amazing offensive type especially when paired with grass stab, earthquake is a good coverage move, spread is enough for cacturne, max spatt and rest in atk. I paired it with hariyama to remove the fire weakness and add priority. I lacked rocks and a flying/normal resist, so steelix was the obvious choice as it is one of the most consistent stealth rockers in the tier. Weezing was my next choice to deal with fighting types and because tspikes + aboma hail + fake out yama is actually amazing. After that I added rotom as a secondary flying/normal check and as a better steelix check, dual status is fun when you catch things like pyroar or magmortar on the switch, allowing abomasnow to put in so much work. Added sceptile as secondary water resist and a cleaner.

Started off with Abomasnow as it had just dropped and Mixed LO looked super threatening. I knew i needed Stealth Rocks and a Fighting resist, so Physically defensive Mesprit fit well. U-turn also provides Aboma with free switches, and Healing Wish is nice considering how easily it gets worn down by Hazards/LO. Next up is DD Rhydon. The team needed some kind of Fire switch in, and DD Rhydon appreciates Abomasnow's ability to wreck things that threaten it such as Bulky Waters and Weezing. Don also handles Skunktank which was looking very annoying for the first two members of the team. SubTox Offensive Mantine is next, and boy is this set underrated. I was uncomfortable with Mesprit being my teams only fighting resist, and Rhydon being the teams only fire resist, so Mantine fit in perfectly. SubTox was chosen over standard defensive because this team really couldn't afford the momentum suck that comes with using defensive, and being able to lure in opposing Mantine and beat them 1v1 helps out Abomasnow. At this point, the team needed something to handle Ghost and Dark types, and because I opted against Defog on Mantine, the team needed hazard removal badly. Skunktank was the perfect option here, as it could easily do both. Special Lure Skunk is used over standard pursuit because the team is very weak to Rhydon especially after a Rock Polish, and this set makes sure Skunk isn't set up fodder. At team preview, most people will assume Skunk is standard Pursuit an Mantine is defog, so playing around that can be beneficial. For the final mon on the team, I needed a Malamar check that wasn't Scyther, so SD Pinsir was chosen. Pinsir also provides a solid check to Magmortar which this squad desperately needed.

So I decided to build around SD aboma with Blizzard, props to Punchshroom for the set he posted, since it can dent alot of counters to SD abomasnow and you still get the benefits of hail wearing down mons and breaking sturdies/sashes. I paired him with Magmortar since they have good offensive syngergy and they wear down a common shared check (Hariyama). Plus Yama gets bopped by a +2 seed bomb which Mag appreciates. He also kills bulky waters for Mag. Next up to complete the FWG core is Chesto Rest Mantine, who provides Defog support for the first two and provides a good scald switchin, fire check and sceptile/fighting check. im trying an old Chesto rest set cause mantine gets worn down easily from Toxics from Lixs and other bulky waters. The speed on Boma/Mantine is to creep jolly don who gives this team trouble. Next up is a volt-turn core to get in Boma/Mag in to hit stuff hard. Bulky rotom is amazing in this meta, provides another fighting check, Lix check and im running dual status with twave to hit common switchins like Pyroar/Scep/mag who dont appreciate a twave. You can run pain split though if you find the extra utility isnt worth your longevity. The speed is for things creeping jolly sawk. Scarf scyther is alot better in this meta with the speed creep, completes the volt -turn core, gives us another fighting check and a malamar check. Tailwind can be a last ditch effort to allow boma/mag to clean up. Finally Im throwing on a Lix just to be a volt switch blocker, normal/psychic check and CM Mush/Audino check and rocks. Also nothing appreciates switching into Skunktank which is another plus to add Lix. Hope you like it!
A lot of good teams this round thanks to Oda Aurosis TTFTW WarumFelix Arktossed and Bizeps Brennt. Voting will last until Monday, good luck to everyone!
