Nuzlocke Challenge

Due to unexpected personal life and a bad case of writer's block, The Inferno is delayed indefinately.

On the other hand, I still have time/motivation to finish the Heart Gold run out, and it's much easier to write updates than days of writing, so here are Chapters Three and Four.

Chapter Three: The City
When the celebration was over, I retired to the Pokecenter for the night. I decided to sleep earlier that night, as I had a difficult battle ahead of me the next day. The leader of Azelea was Bugsy, just a kid younger than I was. There had formerly been older leaders in most of Johto, but they had been replaced following a wave of invasions a few years ago. Bugsy worked with bug-types, and I was fairly certain that Vulcan would have a field day, with Pluto and Mercury on the sidelines. It would be three on three, but I really only needed one.

Just as I was halfway asleep, a cracking sound jolted me back to the world. The egg that Oak had given me was cracking, and shattering into pieces as its contents were unleashed. When the egg was finally broken, a small little Pokemon poked its head out. I was momentarily puzzled by it; I was unaware of anything like it at first glance. Slowly, some part of my mind so deep that it was almost impossible to find stirred, and named it Togepi.

I noticed that it was still fairly weak, and not yet able to fight effectively. Nonetheless, Oak had given it to me to help, so I decided to keep it. I named it Jupiter.

The next day, the entire town had gathered to observe the battle between two rising trainers. Bugsy stood there confident in his abilities, while I stood confident in team match-ups. I had noted something important yesterday watching his Pokemon: our strongest were on the same level of ability, while our two weaker Pokemon were also tied. It was interesting how that worked. We were even in almost every regard. He led with Scyther, a beastly Pokemon that was known to tear most other unevolved Pokemon to shreds. I led with Vulcan, hoping that type-matchup would prevail. Scyther charged forwards with unexpected speed, and delivered a powerful slash to Vulcan, who retaliated with a pulse of embers that scattered across the arena. Scyther jumped back from the attack, hurting itself upon impact with the floor. Vulcan followed up with another round of embers, having much the same result, and forcing Scyther to fly to avoid the heat of the ground. As Scyther came in for another slash, Vulcan jumped up to meet it, igniting itself in a wheel of flames and striking Scyther with full force, knocking it out. His other two Pokemon fainted instantly upon contact with the ground.

He conceded the Hive Badge, and acknowleged my skills as a trainer, beating two leaders within a weak of starting on my journey. I was becoming more and more confident that it had been more than a week. I had been on some other journey before, when I still had my memory. I had reclaimed enough memory to realize that. The nature of that journey was still shrouded in mystery, and I was unsure if I would ever learn that much.

That night I was sitting over a fire Vulcan had made, celebrating victory with my four Pokemon when someone came over. He was the boy from earlier, Silver, and he was tossing up a Pokeball into the air in a way that made it very clear that he wanted to battle. I sighed, and stood up, fully prepared to take him on. He smiled, and I wondered when he was going to start. I got my answer when a Pokemon appeared on the battle field, forming out of the shadows. It was a Ghastly, a Ghost type. I sent in Mercury, letting it show its abilities. Mercury lunged once, and knocked Ghastly out with a single bite. Silver winced, and sent in a Zubat. Vulcan was in charge of this one, and struck hard with a Flame Wheel, knocking Zubat out. Finally, Silver unleashed a Croconaw, the evolution of his first Pokemon. I left Vulcan in, recognizing that niether of my other Pokemon could handle it. Vulcan shot out a Smokescreen, shrouding Croconaw's view. I could still sense the location of both combatants, and gave Vulcan the location of its opponent, allowing him to win with only minimal damage. He stormed away like last time, unwilling to formally admit defeat.

The path through Ilex forest the next day was long and tedious, with no serious opposition and a very odd path to follow. There was a small path to the north of the city, where I caught a Drowzee that I named Morpheus.

Goldenrod City itself was enormous, streching on for a huge distance in either direction. Almost every building in the city was taller than the tallest buildings in any city I had seen thus far. The city was beautiful at twilight, with the city lights sparkling into the night. Over the next few days I would collect a small arsenal of Pokemon, training them all to the power level I expected of the Gym Leader's most powerful Pokemon. Among them were Juno the Dratini, Aeolus the Caterpie, which soon evolved into a Metapod, and a fully trained Jupiter that became the strongest in my team bar Vulcan.

During training, I lost two Pokemon to poison. These were Pluto and Morpheus. It was a very difficult experience, but I had to move on. If Oak was right, there were more challenges ahead and I didn't have time to stay down.

The day finally came when I would have to face the gym leader, Whitney. She was only slightly older than me, but was known to be a force to reckon with. She was also rather secrative, choosing to do battles with no spectators. The night before the battle, the voice appeared again in my dreams. It was much closer this time, with a distinct presence in the blue fog. It laughed mirthlessly before it spoke. "So, you proved yourself master of the earth and sky. It's almost pitiful to look at you now, so certain, but so frail. If only you knew who you were." It paused, laughing coldly for a moment. "I have a nice suprise waiting for you tomorrow, something that will make my earlier gifts of poison pale in comparison. What fun this will be." The laughter droned into the distance, eventually fading into oblivion.

The time for the battle came. Whitney led with a Clefairy, while I took out Jupiter, a far stronger Pokemon. If anything, this battle should have been easy. It was time to get badge number three.

To be continued...

I'm taking the challenge on Ruby right now. About to get my third badge.

MOTHERFUCKER there is a young couple on an island on the route below slateport and they have a dustox and it toxiced my spoink and it died AT THE POKEMON CENTER COUNTER and it was so close to being a grumpig im so sad ;_;

Typhlosion lost to Gengar... now I have a level five Eevee to sweep Morty, and no surfer available... but I'm still crazy enough to see how it goes. If I defeat Morty, I will catch a temporary HM slave. I will not continue the story unless I beat Morty, as it would be a major waste of time. Also, HG gys are much harder than Crystal gyms... and a lot harder than Kanto as well...

Eevee would have done much better against Gengar, all Gengar can do to it is Sucker Punch. Growl it to -6 and laugh (assuming you have Bite). That's how I beat him (though replace Eevee with Togetic and Bite with Extrasensory).
HGSS can be really easy if you get the right Pokemon (Geodude trivializes the first three gyms for example) and really brutal if you don't (Busgy's Scyther, Whitney's Miltank and Morty's Gengar are all hard to beat if you don't have a good Pokemon against them). I'm sure you can beat Morty with just Eevee though provided you get it to learn Bite. Just don't let it evolve :P

Yeah, but it is my ONLY Pokemon. Togepi was killed by Miltank... along with everything else in my team worth noting. I did not ever encounter a Geodude, and was too lazy to actually train up anything else to beat him. I thought that a Lv. 30 Quilava could A) outspeed, and B) OHKO, Gengar. Gengar outsped, and got a Spec Def drop, which allowed it to KO the next turn. Now I get to hope I get Espeon (after Morty, of course) to take on Chuck. After that... yet another gym fight of doom against Jasmine.

well you get access to the Safari Zone after Chuck I think (from Memory). That *Might* help you build up your party. Also you can get to the Lake of Rage I think the moment you get Surf (though again don't quote me). Hopefully that helps

... Well, luck hasn't been particularly helpful this far, but I could *maybe* get lucky, rebuild and go for the win. I thought the Safari Zone opened long after Chuck, and the Lake of Rage after Jasmine, but I will check again if it provides a way to get a neutral hit on Jasmine. Or... I could teach Eevee dig, and laugh if Espeon's troll attack stat actually does something. I am still thinking Crystal would have been easier (Falkner only has a lv. 7 and lv. 9 Pokemon, that can not Roost Stall, Miltank dosen't have Thick Fat/Immunity, Gengar dies to ground, etc).

Actually you can go to Lake Of Rage immediately after the Hiker appears. You can't Surf until you beat Morty but still. And the Safari Zone appears after you heal Amphy but the double battle with the Magmar and Electabuzz will still kill you.

Could Dig Espeon/Umbreon and Gyarados defeat Jasmine? Even with the attack stat of Espeon, it can surely beat two Magnemite with a ground type move, and Intimidate+Ground/Steel Resistance+SE Waterfall can probably take down Steelix. The problem here is still evolving Esvee into Espeon (after Morty) to kill Chuck, and then leveling up to get Confusion, but it is my best shot. Here
it goes... after I finish my homework for the break.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Onix at least had terrible offenses (failed to 3HKO Charizard lol), so a -1 Steelix against a reasonably bulky and fully evolved Pokemon should do very little, and I do plan to play a bit of a switching game with some sacrificial Pokemon to get more than one intimidate. I don't really expect Jasmine to give me trouble. Also, Espeon will make Chuck and Team Rocket much easier, so I may still have a chance.

Update

Maximum and I both travelled away from my home. I started training Maximum as I went just in case I met those creeps again.

Close to Oreburgh City I we stopped for the night. I had added quite a few pokemon to my party but it had been a long day and needed rest.

I lay on the ground but try as I might, I could not get to sleep. I kept thinking about those strange men and why they had wanted me, after all I had done nothing at all that might have triggered an event like that except...

I had been very young when it had happened. I had been taken to a man who told me that he was a Docter and I had been injected with something. Then my mother and I had left. On its own that was nothing unusual however I remember a man blocking the exit when we first walked in and the 'injection' had made me feel uneasy. So uneasy in fact that I had kicked up a storm before my mother calmed me down enough for them to administer the injection. The thing was, that Doctor that had injected me when I was little, well he was one of the men at my house when Mum was taken away.

I must have got to sleep eventually because I woke up to sunshine. With my team set I decided to take on the gym so that I could get stronger. Maximum smashed the gym leader's pokemon to dust and I carried on with my journey. Unfortunately It was around this time that I lost my first pokemon. I had caught a Buizel (Jet) and I lost him to an unfortunate critical hit during training. I felt a sudden pain when Jet had collapsed and I knew that he was dead. I quickly finished off my opponent and then hugged Jet close, tears in my eyes. I was new to this pokemon thing but I was also smart enough to know that pokemon did not die when they fainted. Nor did there trainers feel huge amounts of pain when ever there pokemon suffered damage. I had no idea why this was happening but suspected it had something to do with the men showing up at my house. I contunied on my quest beating trainers and adding new pokemon to my party. To my despair though Every now and then a critical hit would claim the lives of another friend. Angel my Staravia had managed to defeat Gardenia before falling in the Team Galactic hideout, Chrome my Bronzor and Shadow my Duskull, both defensive pivots in my team perished. However my team kept getting stronger, Ion, my Nosepass had evolved into a Probopass and had played a valuable role in weathering Mismagius's attacks before crippling it with a Thunder Wave allowing Maximum and Bolt to clean up the rest of Fantina's team. The Great Marsh had also bolstered my back up pokemon however, I still had a long way to go...

Yeah thats my update for now. I was planning to write each part up piece by piece but got writers block so decided to do a summery post instead to catch up to where I am. I'll Edit this with my current team and stuff

Scariest experience of my nuzlocke so far....I was battling watson after hours of grindan and evolvan (loudred and hariyama get) and I figured I could just troll that gym with my marshtomp since it has electric immunities.

Watson's voltorb.
Self-Destructed on my 51/71 HP.
I couldn't even look at the screen.
My marshtomp survived with 15 HP left.
My heart skipped a beat and I switched in with Baller the hariyama and raped the rest of his pokemon.

That was the scariest event in all of my pokemon history. I'm definitely going to make a comic on that.

doing my first run through on this challenge on a HG, and I'd just like to say two things:

1.) fuck critical hits. my starter and two other poke's died to untimely criticals

2.) fuck pursuit!!!!! I've had TWO, yes, TWO pokemon die to WILD pokemon who used pursuit when I switched.

I just gave jasmine the secretpotion, and my team is already 6/6 completely different from the team I had when I entered olivine

regardless, the challenge is quite fun
