Nuzlocke Challenge

Here be Part 5:
JarardosNuzlockeChallengePart5.png

I started a nuzlocke challenge on my sapphire because my boyfriend said I should try it with him. I named several of my pokes after friends in the pokecommunity. I think so far 3 of them died, but I ended up catching doubles of them so I renamed them [insert name]2. XD

New challenge

Yay, first post.
Anyways, I'm on to my second Emerald Nuzlocke emu run, current team is Grovyle (Iggy), Swellow (Nellie), Lairon (Jenny), Tentacruel (Horace) and Azumarill (I forgot the name), all lv32. Currently in Fortree City.
Deceased:
Adriel the Linoone (lv3-lv20+)>>>died at the hands/wings of wild Skarmory.
[forgot name] the Wingull (lv4-lv19)>>>died at the hands of fearsome Zigzagoon behind the Petalburg flower shop.
I still have one slot for flasher, must know thunderbolt to help at Wallace. Any suggestions? :P

Try a Manetric (Spelled right?), im not exactly sure if they learn Flash, but they should be able to and you can even catch them near Fortree.

Damn, encountered Zigzagoons on all routes near Fortree, no Manectrics at the moment.
I do have a Voltorb though, unfortunately its nature is Brave. Is it worth it to train?

Im not sure, ive never really done a Nuzlocke challenge before (will after im done my Scramble), but I would say its worth training all you guys a little bit in case some of yours die.

EDIT just checked Serebii, they are on route 118 for RSE.

Current Team:
Gaia the Turtwig Serious
Count the Zubat Docile
PC
N/A
Dead
2xShinx one quiet one impish

Right now I am in Oreburg City getting ready for the first badge. I am very upset that I lost a ponyta in route 207. Shinx one did not leave the grass I caught it in. Shinx two died to a crit from my rival, but because it did get the intimidate off I won in dramatic fashion.

EDIT: What is the ruling on honey trees for DPPt

This is it! The Grand Finale! The Epic Conclusion!

Now, it is time! Time for me to kick the Elite Fours butt.

Round 1 VS. Lorelei
Dewgong, Cloyster and Lapras were blown away by Voltz
Slowbro was taken out by Saur
Jynx was sliced by a couple of Steel Wings from Aquila

That was pretty easy. NEXT!

Round 2 VS. Bruno
Both Onixes were taken out by a Stalling Saur (Note: Saur is equiped with Leftovers and Leech Seed). Saur was able to survive 3 Earthquakes
Machamp, Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee were taken out by Aquila.

That was tougher than before but still bearable.

Round 3 VS. Agatha

This wasn't however. Man that first Gangar was annoying! Aquila eventually managed to take it out for dinner.
Golbat was killed by Butterkill.
Arbok got Earthquaked by Funky
Haunter and Gengar got washed away by Nessy

Damn you Gangar!! Well now it's onto the feature matches of tonight!

ROUND 4 (Ding Ding) VS. Lance

He started with Gyarados. I countered with Voltz. Voltz used Thunderbolt. Fried Leviathan any one?

Lance then sent out Dragonair. I recalled Voltz and sent out Nessy. One Icebeam K.O.

He then sent out his Aerodactyl. I used to have one of those... (Remembers Aero and how he was obliterated by Blaine...) Anyway I switched back to Voltz.

Voltz got nailed by a AncientPower, but managed to take it out with a Thunderbolt.

Then it was Dragonair II: Electric Boogaloo. I withdrew Voltz and sent out Nessy again. An Icebeam later.

Lance sent out his large Dragonite! One Icebeam later. NEXT!

Now it was me versus the so-called champion. Who was this guy anyway? Oh no. Not him!! NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! AHHHHH!! Yes, it was "???"! No seriously, thats what I called him!

FINAL ROUND (Ding Ding) VS. ???

This was it. The Final Battle of Ultimate Destiny. He was all that stood before me and the Hall of Fame! It was time to kick his ass!

The Epic battle started. He sent out his Pidgeot. I sent out Voltz! I started off with a Thunderbolt... but the Kentucky fried chicken survived.

It used Aerial Ace. It barely made a dent in Voltz. Next turn, I used Shockwave for the Finish... But ??? used a Full Restore. Damn it.

Voltz then used a final shockwave to take it down.

??? sensed victory and sent out his Rhydon. It's time to get Funky! I switched in Funky. And Rhydon used Scary Face. I used Cross Chop, but it countered with Earthquake.

Funky surprisigly survived! I used Karate Chop for the win!... but ??? used a Full Restore. Damn it... again! Karate Chop did do some damage though! Another Earthquake came. Ouch that's gotta hurt!

Funky managed to finish it off with a Karate Chop! Funky was also looking a bit worse for ware.

??? then sent out his Alakazam. I countered with Butterkill. Butterkill managed to put it to sleep! YAYZ! And spammed Physic like crazy. He managed to get it down to a 3/4 of its health, until it woke up!!!

A Psychic later, it was goodbye to an old friend. Arceus now owns two now. R.I.P - Butterkill (Male) Levels 5 - 56

Butterkill had weakened it though! His death would not be in vain!! Go Aquila!

Alakazam used another Psychic. Aquila survived though! Yayz! A Wing Attack later and Alakazam was no longer a threat! Aquila was heavily injured though.

Next to come out was Exeggutor. I countered by switching to Saur, who managed to put it to sleep, set up a leech seed and generally spam Razor leaves!

Next after Exeggutor was Gyarados. I switched to Voltz, who managed to take it out with one Thunderbolt. Go Team!

His final pokemon, was the beast known in legend as Charazard. I switched to Nessy. She used Surf, injuring the Charazard slightly. Charazard used Fireblast getting Nessy down to half health with one hit! 0_0 !

WHAT!? Egad this pokemon was tough! I knew Nessy wouldn't survive another hit or would any of my other Pokemon. I used Perish Song and Prayed to Arceus!

With another Fireblast, Nessy was no more. I'm sorry. R.I.P - Nessy (Female) Levels 25 - 59

I needed a Hero! I sent out Voltz. He used Shockwave and hit Charazard! Charazard returned fire to hit him and burn him with Fireblast. He survived though!

Wounded, Voltz put all of his strength into one final Shockwave. Charazard still survived!! Voltz unfortunately didn't. He died from a Fiery Fireblast.

I didn't know what to do and sent out my only pokemon in a good condition, Saur. Saur used sleep powder, but missed. Well that sucks... thanks a lot Lady Luck! Charazard used Fireblast. That's it I'm a goner!

Saur Survived?! WHAT?! He survived with 1HP... But he would be finished by a Wing Attack or something! Then suddenly Charazard fell to the ground. Perish Song!! Lady Luck, I love you!!!

I had defeated my Rival!!! I was the Champion!! And here comes the Hall of Fame and the Credits! Aw Yea! "We are the Champions, my Friends! AND we'll keep on fighting till the end!"

But can we have a moment of silence for all the fallen Pokemon?

Deceased:
R.I.P Solid the Ekans
R.I.P Diggit the Diglett
R.I.P Ze Bat the Zubat
R.I.P Gardie the Growlithe
R.I.P Aero the Aerodactyl
R.I.P Omi the Omanyte
R.I.P (Again) Butterkill the Butterfree
R.I.P Nessy the Lapras
R.I.P Voltz the Raichu

After thoughts about team:

Saur - I give you the MVP Award. In the early game, you were there to get the team through tough times. You helped us when we were so hopelessly weak against Pidgeys and Spearows. You became a Powerhouse and a pretty solid wall. You also helped to build the team in the first place. You, my freind, will always have a place in my heart.

Funky - You were my first capture and therefore you will always be special to me. Early on you became a much needed powerhouse and brawn in general. You had MegaPunch, so you could even take down flying pokemon.

Butterkill - Ah Butterkill my friend. You were a part of the original three and are just as special to me. You were like Ash's Butterfree by taking on things a lot bigger and stronger than you. I always remember how you took down my rival's Pidgeotto by yourself. You stayed in the team and were even able to help in the final battle. If Saur hadn't already gotten the MVP award, then it probably have gone to you. Rest easy now, Old Friend.

Aquila - I met you at Mt.Moon, but you really didn't fully come into play until Erica. After that you became a Powerhouse and I could easily call upon you for anything. You managed to knock out most of Sabrina's team by yourself, and took some heavy hits as well!

Voltz - After defeating Koga, I realised that I desperately needed a powerful electric pokemon and you were my answer. I taught you dig and you were able to take out about anything! You help me defeat my Rival many times and became a needed part of the group! It's a shame really that you died, when we were so close. We couldn't have done it without you! Rest Easy my friend!

Nessy - Although you arrived late, you became an instant member of the team. Your Ice and Water attacks were just what we needed. You were able to surf, which helped me a lot! If it wasn't for you, we might have never defeated Blaine or Lance. Thank you and rest in peace.

I hope everybody enjoyed reading my FireRed Nuzlocke challenge as I enjoyed actually doing and writing it. I'm planning on doing an Emerald Challenge next, but I face a Moral Dilemma.

Right now, My Pokemon on my current file have Pokerus. Do I wait until I can transfer them to my Generation IV game or just go ahead? If you could give me that rare type of advice "Good" Advice, then it would be good help.

Apart from that, Thanks for Reading and hope to see you next time!

Any reason for having multiple moves of the same type on one Pokemon? It just seems like you could've gotten better type coverage. For example, Raichu is pretty awesome in-game because of Thunderbolt and Brick Break, and Shock Wave was probably better spent on Lapras. But anyway, congrats!

I haven't updated in a while and this isn't a complete update, but...
I think I left Mt. Moon last time. My Pokemon were Hugo the Ivysaur, Ginny the Pidgeotto, and Andrea the Clefairy. I was switching Andrea in and out to get her up to speed. She also didn't know any moves, as she relies on TMs for her entire moveset, unless I want to keep Sing and Encore. Fortunately, Misty gives a TM that I think Andrea can learn (it was Bubblebeam in RBY).
But before fighting Misty, I want to go exploring and possibly catch some new Pokemon! That means I have to fight my rival. Ginny sweep time!
Nugget bridge was annoying, but mostly because I had to switch in Andrea after every kill, and I was using "Set" for the Battle Type. Andrea is a lot more trouble than she's worth at this point, not unlike the person she was named after...
There are two routes, so two new grassy patches. They both contained Oddishes, which are boxed since Hugo already gives Grass-type STAB. So much for exploring...
Misty was swept by Hugo, so not much to say there. More exciting was the TM she gave me, Water Pulse. Andrea finally gets an attack! Perhaps wasting all that time on her was worth it after all.
En route to Bill's, Andrea shows her stuff by Water Pulsing a couple of Geodudes and Onixes. I have high hopes for her.
Bill gives me the S. S. Anne ticket, so now it's off to Vermilion. On the way to the Underground Tunnel, I meet a Meowth, whom I name Timmy (Timmeh the Kitteh!). I'm not sure whether I want to use him yet, but I'll give him a try. He could be a decent mixed attacker, since he learns moves like Thunderbolt and Water Pulse (d'oh), and gets STAB Slash/Return and Dig.
Before getting aboard the S. S. Anne, I took a detour to the Diglet Cave. Too bad the one I find is a -Atk nature... Off to the box you go.
I decided to train Timmy on the ship, but eventually I decided that he and Andrea will be competing for TMs and I have to pick one or the other. I decided to ditch Timmy for Andrea, who again lives up to her name.
After another Ginny sweep Gary stomped off, allowing me to meet the captain, who gave me Cut. I taught it to Timmy.
Lt. Surge was dispatched by Andrea and Hugo, and my prize went to Andrea, who gained more type coverage with Shock Wave. Also, I'm certain that Timmy can learn Flash, so he'll make a decent HM slave. Pickup is a plus too.
Now it's off to Lavender Town.

Youtube has videos of this, if you're interested.

Since I have nothing to do this summer besides smashing my PS3 from anger at not being able to defeat the 3 goddamn Sirens in GOW 1 God Mode, I'm gonna take it easy on my PS3 and smash something else for a change.

Taking this challenge on my SS. Will edit this post as I make progress.

I will be using a mixture of both rules. If Nuzlocke's rules are a bit ambiguous, then I will use Moot's as a guideline to what I should do. Gonna make it harder with this bitches.

Alright time for my pokemon platinum run!
Rules: Faint=Death
First pokemon seen on route=only one I can catch

Part 1 I Hate Bidoofs
Start:None

I tried the nuzlocke challenge on HG but thought it was to hard so I decided on platinum. Picked a turtwig, which I then named Goku, with an impish nature (+def, -spa). Got some pokeballs and caught a starly in route 201, named Flyhigh. Was pumped, until I fought a trainer with a lvl 5 bidoof, which brought Goku down to 8 health. Threw in Flyhigh, only to get a crit and die from the bidoof :( Goku avenged him with 2 health left, but was sad to see his only friend die already.

After that, I went to route 204 and found a worthless kricetot named Moonlight. Picked up a awesome psyduck in the ravaged path named Quackers who is definitly going on my team. Fought my rival/friend Lewis and got a bidoof named dunce, who I will not be using due to bad memories.

Finish: Goku (Turtwig) lvl 12
Quackers (Psyduck) lvl 7
Moonlight (Kricketot) lvl 4
Dunce (Bidoof) lvl 6

I'm doing this in Emerald with slightly tweaked rules, and while I haven't been exactly logging my adventure, I've been writing out bits that stick out in my mind (in DARKERANDEDGIER fashion, of course). Neither have been very proofread so forgive any typos.

Team so far, for reference:

271.png

Lombre — "Burn"

256.png

Combusken — "Rook"

269.png

Dustox — "Jaws"

72.png

Tentacool — "Roscoe"

41.png

Zubat — "Professor"

———

Adventures with Lotad:
"Burn," I snapped, "Absorb!"

Burn is probably a silly nickname for a lotad, but it was the best thing I could come up for her at the time. With a water/grass type as his opponent, the hiker looked nervously at the vulnerable geodude he had called out. It looked unphased, ready to rumble.

"Tackle it!" was the opponent's order, and without any hesitation the floating rock flung itself at Burn. She braced herself, and when the impact came it didn't even dent the bright green leaf on her head. They slid only a few inches, and I saw her eyes flash.

That's when she struck, while the geodude was still touching her. A blinding green light engulfed them for only a moment, and then there was silence.

Both the hiker and I watched our pokemon with held breath, waiting to see what would come. And we waited.

And then something dropped. A single pebble fell from the geodude's thick hide.

From there it was like watching a tree fall. Almost slowly it hit the ground, fists loosening, fissures in its body widening and gaping, oily black blood seeping from the bottom of its round body. I bit my lip.

The last thing that geodude saw was Burn's blank, unfeeling eyes.

The battle over, my water weed pokemon shook the blood off her feet and trundled over to me, seeking praise. For the moment I ignored her. Instead I watched the hiker, stone-faced but accepting he had lost, as he approached his dead companion and cradled it in his arms.

I picked Burn up, trying to ignore the black liquid she smeared on my arms and shirt as I did, and together we headed toward Rusturf Tunnel.

...And adventures with Taillow:

And things had been going so well.

Jaws had always been a little bit insane to begin with, and no one could ever tell what was on Burn's mind, but the dustox and lombre had done their parts quickly and without difficulty (a bit brutally, too). As I brought out my secret weapon to face Brawly's makuhita, I was certain we'd have no difficulties at all.

My taillow was the toughest of the lot, if not so fierce in temper, and she glared at the hulking, grinning fat animal on the other side of the ring. We'd prepared for this, training in the very cave the gym leader had, and when Jane had begun shattering rocks with a single blow of her wing I knew we were ready.

Brawly had already sent his last pokemon out, seeming heedless to the fate of his first two. Both he and the makuhita had the same air of stoic determination about them. Dangerous, if taken lightly.

"Wing Attack!"

"Prepare yourself, Makuhita."

Always quicker, Jane flashed through the air like ... well, a hawk, banking at the last second and slamming the edge of her wing into the thing. Right in the throat! Its neck jerked unpleasantly from such a critical blow (I cringed, myself) and it hit the dirt, Jane trilling loudly as she soared away. I couldn't imagine the bruise.

The makuhita was shaking as it got up, but it still managed to keep its focus, using what I assumed was "Bulk Up." Even from across the arena I could see its muscles pop and bulge, and as Jane was wheeling back around it popped something into its mouth: a sitrus berry. Almost immediately it shook itself and took a fighting stance, watching my taillow.

Still, I wasn't worried. Jane circled once over my head as I told her to repeat the attack, hoping another bludgeoning blow to the face would finish it. Eager, she cawwed in answer and swooped at the last thing separating us from victory.

Things seemed to slow as she closed in on our prey. Again she banked, and struck the thing in the face; the blunt blow resulted in a fountain of blood spraying over her. Hampered, she flapped her wings to escape. The attack had not been fatal.

The unthinkable happened. An instant before she would have escaped Jane squawked in pain as those thick, bulbous black hands seized her by the head and tail, ripping out feathers. The makuhita was slow, but unavoidable, and she couldn't possibly break free.

No big deal, I thought. Jane knew how to suffer a few hits, and we almost had this. My conscious mind was well aware of our chances, but it didn't get rid of the cold pit that had suddenly formed in my stomach. Jane looked scared.

Jane was smarter than I was.

The makuhita twisted with alarming speed and I saw its own blood fling away in the air. It only needed that little bit of momentum to hurl my taillow into the rocky floor of the stadium. Jane screamed only once.

There was a sickening crunch. There was a sickening silence.

Brawly's pokemon let go of her, and with a nervous voice I called her name. Nothing.

"Jane? Get up! We have to finish this, Jane!"

I remembered seeing her for the first time on the green knoll above the sand outside Petalburg, alert, bright, sharp. Full of promise.

I heard my voice crack. "Jane!"

And the referee—oh, he was an old man, and I could tell by his face this bloodshed was all old hat by now—the referee raised one hand and declared, "Taillow is unable to battle."

Fancy talk for it's dead.

My chest seized up, looking at the crumbled blue body on the other side of the stage. Feathers stuck up at random, haphazard and broken, and I could see one her legs twisted unnaturally.

It had only taken one hit.

Panicking, I fumbled for my pokeballs. Of my remaining five, only three were fit for battle—but who was faster? I tried to get my head back in the game and jerked my eyes away from poor Jane, staring at the three red spheres in my hands. Jaws, Burn, or Rook, my combusken and first companion.

I couldn't imagine losing any of them. I couldn't imagine losing—

With a shaky curse I tossed one of the three to the ground and stuffed the others back in my pocket, instinctively raising my hand to catch the homing pokeball as Jaws emerged. She was weaker than the other two, but swifter, and the makuhita was on its last legs.

The rest of the battle is hardly worth telling. It only took a simple mind trick for my moth to bring the monster down, drooling blood from its mouth, and then Brawly was out of pokemon. I don't remember his losing speech or at what point he gave me my badge, just numbly picking up my dead bird and carrying her out in my arms. I could only be thankful that it was probably quick. Her head and brain were mostly crushed from the impact.

There was nowhere to bury her on the beach, so I took her to Granite Cave and laid her to rest beneath a scar on the wall she herself had put there. So much for her power. Only Rook and Burn paid their respects, though the other three were just as solemn. They had been the only two to know her better; Rook in particular had been very fond of her.

So that was it. I left the mangled body of my most promising companion beneath a rock in a cave on a shitty little beach, because my ride off the island wouldn't allow me to bring that thing onto his boat, and he was threatening to sail off without me if I didn't hurry up. Not even a proper resting place.

The last thing I did before burying her, though, was to take some of the few unbroken feathers she had left. I put one in my journal, and one in my headband.

The rest I scattered at sea, while the boat carried me away to Slateport.

THE STORY CONTINUES...

After hours and hours of horrible grinding, Van finally gets his team to around LV 30. 'This should be enough' he thought, as he finally went to Pastoria Gym. Just as he was about to enter, QB showed up. "It'd be better if I test you first before you fight master!"

"master?" Van asked, confused.

"Yeap! I've decided. I'll become Wake's apprentice! Now battle!"

rival QB wants to battle.
rival QB sent out LV 34 Staravia!!

Van facepalms. LV34?! God dammit... lucky that his first pokemon was Daisy the sea serpent. After exchanging intimidates, dragon rage brought down the staravia. Then Big Daddy swept the entire team, despite being underleveled. The only exception was QB's ponyta, who was handled by Daisy.

"HOW COULD I LOSE AGAIN!"

"Face it loser..." Van said as he goes into the gym.

After beating all the gym trainers with Big Daddy, Van finally reaches Crasher Wake.

"Crasher Wake! I challenge you!"

*gym leader theme plays*
Crasher wake sent out Gyarados!
Van sent out Daisy!
-exchange intimidates-
Daisy spams DRAGON RAGE!
Daisy won with ample health left!
Crasher Wake sent out Quagsire!

"Enough Daisy, you've done great. Now go Big Daddy! Show 'em what you've trained for!"

Quagsire did some useless things to Big Daddy.
Big Daddy used Magical Leaf! BOOM, HEADSHOT!
Crasher Wake sent out Floatzel!

"Another easy water type! Go Big Daddy!"

Floatzel used Crunch!
Big Daddy is in critical health!
Big Daddy used Magical Leaf!
Floatzel laughed at the attack!

"SHIIIIII- ENOUGH, BIG DADDY, RETREAT! GO VUI!"

Vui spams Sand Attack!
HAX strikes Floatzel!
Vui used Confuse Ray!
HAX strikes Floatzel yet again!
Floatzel managed to Aqua Jet Vui!
Vui's health fell below 50%!

Crasher Wake smirked. "Now, Floatzel! Finish him!"

Floatzel used BRINE!

"FFFFFUUUUU-"

Vui survived with 1 HP! (I'm dead serious I almost got a heart attack)

"phew..." Van let out a sigh of relief... "so Wake... nice try, but I guess it's PAYBACK TIME!"

Vui used payback!
*scene censored to protect your eyes*
Van won the battle!

Crasher wake stood still, confounded. Van defeated him despite his pokemon having lower level than his. "I could've done it even faster if Leon made it..."

-NEXT TIME : (timeskipping yet again) CANALAVE GYM BATTLE!-

I seriously love my umbreon. Anything not typed fighting or bug won't be able to take him down, and he saved my ass (and the other 5 team members' as well) a lot of times. Can't imagine what I'll do without him...

I tried doing one of these on Sapphire and kind of gave up when May wrecked all of my Pokemon on the second/third battle against her.

Now I'm doing it on LeafGreen and it's much harder than expected for that game. I've been recording stuff sorta kinda too, so maybe I'll do something with that.

Thanks for the comments, everybody!

I added each team member, when I required them. Kept them with similar type attacks because that’s what I required at the time. Nessy was needed to take down Dragon, Flying and Fire Pokemon, so therefore needed Surf and Ice Beam. I added Shock Wave to Voltz because I was in the middle of the Elite 4, about to face Lance and realised that Thunderbolt probably wouldn’t have enough PP left. I looked through my TMs to find an electric attack and found Shock Wave.

I’ve decided that I will be doing a Nuzlocke Challenge of Pokemon Emerald. I will also be updating a log, because I actually enjoyed writing and updating it!

Here’s the rules I’ll be using:

The general Nuzlocke Rules:
- Any Pokémon that faints is considered dead, and must be released.
- The player may only catch the first Pokémon encountered in each area, and none else. If the first Pokémon encountered faints or flees, there are no second chances.
- All Pokemon must be Nicknamed
- No capture of Legendary Pokemon.

Additional Rules:
- Only 10 Items may be bought per PokeMart
- One pokeball may be bought per every new town visited
- No spam usage of the Pokemon Centre
- No Items in Battle
- Items may be used outside battle
- Any Items found in the Wild are fare game!
- Items banned – Revives of any kind.

And that’s it!

Next problem, what starter pokemon to choose?

In my past two attempts at Pokemon Emerald, I chose Torchic and Mudkip. I like Torchic and its evolutions. I have no love for Mudkip. I don’t know why but I just don’t like the little guy. I have never chosen Treeko, but it is one of my favourites!
