Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
This is completely ridiculous. To date, I have lost:
1. A Level 42 Feraligatr,
2. A Level 40 Slowbro,
3. A Level 40 Jolteon,
4. A Level 36 Crobat,
5. A Level 27 Kadabra,
6. A Level 26 Haunter,
7. A Level 16 Stantler,
8. A Level 13 Aipom,
And most recently,
9. A Level 36 Machoke.
:/
I haven't even fought the Kimono Girls yet.
But at long last, I have grinded a Level 15 Dratini, a Level 16 Magnemite, and a Level 14 Magikarp into a Level 40 Dragonair, a Level 38 Magneton, and a Level 39 Gyarados! And it only took me approximately 6 or 7 hours!
Kimono Girls, here I come! But go easy this time, please.
Ok, so I'm on my third try on emerald and I've never gotten so far. I'm now going to fight Team Magma for the first time but I've already had lots of problems. Recently I caught a swablu near Meteor Falls and it fainted right after. And right now, in Meteor Falls I fainted a solrock that I was trying to capture thanks to a crit tackle.
EDIT: Defeated Flannery but lost my starter Zdrup15 and my most recen capture Oinky the Spoink. Well, I guess I'll have to train my hasty FIRE POWER and my Brave BEASTY
Team:
SUMO GUY (Lv. 30 Haryama)
WUM WUM (Lv. 29 Dustox)
CRUELLA (Lv. 29 Nuzleaf)
BEASTY (Lv. 12 Magikarp)
FIRE POWER (Lv. 15 Numel)
Yeah the Kimono Girls are tough. I got lucky once with Heracross surviving Espions Psychic and then Espion survived a shadow Claw.....
Also posting that I will resume my challenge soon on Emerald and HG. Just got 3 2,000 word Essays to write for Universty so I will try and continue as soon as I can
The RNG hates my guts. First try ended in epicfail when I got crithax'd by Gary. He crit'd me twice for the KO, and the one shot I managed to get off missed. It was kinda hilarious, actually, so I just started over and didn't think about it.
BUT I KEEP GETTING CRITHAX'D. By bleedin' pidgeys. Six restarts. Methinks I am doing it very, very wrong. *hysterical laughter*
So after embarrassingly losing to brawly in my last nuzlocke run, I decided to restart my emerald. It's been WTF so far, but in a good way. With the exception of mudkip (I chose torchic), I have captured every possible water type pre petalburg woods. I got a wingull on the route may was on (got to may w/out any encounters), lotad on the first route, and marill on the second (huge power ftw). Crazy huh?
I head along my merry way through Route 113, evolving my Wunupp into a Breloom (fuck yes Mach Punch) and Sandbag into a Hariyama (fuck yes insane HP!). I use Route 114 to catch a Swablu, named Cumulus, and to let Cammie, my Numel, catch up with the rest of my team (MAGNITUDE WHOO!). At Meteor Falls I shoo off the local Team Aqua morons and reserve, through the use of Repels, the ability to catch a Bagon there in case of emergency. I'm feeling pretty good with my souped up team, so I go mess up Team Aqua's plans for the Meteorite. I was too rash, though, pretending to use Wunupp to solo the entire place, and only through pure luck do I manage to survive a Wing Attack from Archie's Golbat with only 1 HP. I silently berate myself and decide to be more careful. I catch a Machop on Jagged Pass (Luis) and stroll into Flannery's Gym. I challenge the Gym Leader (after grinding with all the Gym Trainers).
I head out with Cammie, and she starts with a Slugma. Cammie barely manages to beat this Slugma and dent the other one due to getting three Magnitude 4s in a row. I send out Kippy (a Marshtomp) to sweep Slugma easily and then face off against Torkoal, but Mud Shot misses once on the level 29 turtle, and then she uses Attract. Both Kippy and the Torkoal are at critical health so I send in my trusty Sandbag, thinking he can survive the Overheat if she decides to use it due to the Thick Fat ability and net me the win. I send him in and she uses Overheat.
Sandbag didn't have Thick Fat as his ability, he had Guts. It's a clean OHKO.
Still shocked, I heal up Cammie and end the battle. Oh poor Sandbag, you left us too soon. She hands me my 4th badge and a sweet Overheat TM. Also May gives me some goggles so I can go in the desert. I remember my next battle is against my father and level up both in the desert (I caught a Cacnea! named 'er Reina, for having a little crown on her head) and in the gym. I'm a bit nervous, but feeling prepared. Wunupp, my main line of offense against his Pokemon, is at level 29 and the rest of my team is at level 27. I face my father. We're ready to battle.
I send out Wunupp against his first Slaking. I use Mach Punch and notice it's only a 3HKO. He uses Faint Attack, doing a decent amount of damage, and I think it's going well, but then something happens. Wunupp's Effect Spore poisons Slaking. Shit. Shitshitshitshit! If you don't know why I'm so nervous, Slaking certainly does. I can almost fell the sprite is grinning. I quickly calculate my options. It's too dangerous to send someone else in. Healing Wunupp would just waste a turn. I decide to keep spamming Mach Punch and see what happens. One turn goes by, leaving Slaking at minimal health. Norman uses a Hyper Potion. Then the worst comes to pass.
BOOM! Facade. It's a OHKO on poor Wunupp. If you didn't know, Facade jumps from 70 to 140 base power if the user has a status condition, like the one Wunupp's ability tragically bestowed him. And it's running off a titanic 160 base Attack. I send in Cammie, and she does little damage with Magnitude (Don't be fooled; it was actually a very helpful move for me). BOOM! Facade. It's a OHKO. I'm sweating now, I don't know what to do, I just send in Mutt the Mightyena in hopes of something good happening. Bite manages to bring the beast to the last of it's energy. BOOM! Facade. It's a OHKO. I send in Kippy and finish him off, partly from the poisoning, partly from Mud Shot. Now he sends out his SECOND Slaking. The level 31 one. I was doomed.
But sometimes miracles happen. Those things you just can't explain. What I'm talking about is, that second Slaking, could've put me to sleep with Yawn, or destroyed my last hope with Facade. But he used used Focus Punch over and over again, allowing Kippy to hit him and prevent the attack from connecting. I slowly wear him down, and Slaeck Off and a Hyper Potion do nothing but make the job longer. Slowly, torturously, I bring the Titan to his knees. Slaking faints, and I breathe a big sigh of relief. Now I only have to deal with a level 30 Vigoroth! Wait what? This time I use another method, lowering his accuracy to the minimum with Mud Slap and burning through my Soda Pop reserves until, my legs shaking, a little text reads down my screen: "Player defeated LEADER NORMAN!" HELL YES I DID.
I laid my fallen teammates to rest in the PC. Wunupp, Mutt, and Cammie... I can't help thinking that if I had kept closer track of my team I would've known Sandbag had the wrong ability to survive that Overheat, and that he could have prevented this catastrophe from happening. The only fragment of my original team that remains is bold Kippy, my first ever Pokemon. As I teach him Surf over Water Gun I can't help thinking: I haven't lost yet. I can still rebuild.
TOMORROW: REBUILDING. THE TALE OF PUTTING A TEAM TOGETHER FROM NOTHING.
Kippy Level 28
The only one left.
Gaviota Level 4 (Killed by a Taillow's Peck critting, in his very first battle. Too young to die.)
Bowie Level 5 (Killed by the same Taillow's Peck critting AGAIN. She used to bring me little gifts, but now it can never happen again.)
Wyrm Level 10 (A Whismur that I was trying to catch got a critical hit with Uproar. I caught the Whismur, Veegee, but the loss was far greater than the reapings)
Ohmer Level 19 (She was set to survive a Fury Attack from a Duduo. The last hit went critical. She was eager to master her first electric attack, but that hope was cut short)
Sandbag Level 24 (Due to me not remembering her ability was not Thick Fat, fell to Flannery's Torkoal's Overheat in one hit. His demise at my hands led to my team's doom)
Wunupp Level 28 (Tragically, and through none of his own fault, poisoned Norman's Slaking and gave it the way to destroy my team)
Cammie Level 26 (Did some damage to Norman's Slaking but was OHKOed by Facade, like Wunupp and Mutt)
Mutt Level 27 (Died to finish off Norman's Slaking, paving the way for Kippy to win)
Samur Level 15
Veegee Level 9
Raffles Level 12
Dizarro Level 16
Cumulus Level 17
Luis Level 21
Reina Level 19
I hope you guys are enjoying this as much as I did writing and formatting all of this. As for my team, it's starting to come together.
Hey, I'm starting up a run in HeartGold (with moot's rules) with a twist: Each time I catch a pokemon, I am going to get a challenge for it in the Scramble Challenge thread. I think this will create even more attachment to my pokemon than a traditional Nuzlocke, because they will also have somewhat more of a personality. Hopefully this will be as fun and challenging as I expect it to be!
Just so ya know Nanoswine, thats practically a 'Scramblocke Challenge', which two of us here have done, me and someone else.... its fun, i think you'll enjoy it.
If you haven't been following my story just know I lost all my team except Kippy to Norman. And as soon as the ordeal was over I was already pondering what to do (apart from teaching Kippy Surf). But first of all I go through every place I hadn't caught a Pokemon before in hopes of finding some new material. A Grimer and Zubat are the result, but i ignore them. Looking into the PC, I notice that Cacnea I caught in the desert and named Reina. I was going to train my Nincada so I could get a Shedinja, but said Shedinja promptly dies by Leech Seed in it's first battle. Whatever.
A Cacturne would do nicely on my team, so I pull her out and start grinding. I find Wattson in the middle of Mauville City and he tells me to go shut down a generator. I gladly oblige and go to New Mauville, where I find Tripolar the Magnemite for my team. Wattson gives me a Thunderbolt TM which I instantly teach to Magnemite. Searching on the Internet I find Route 115 (the one from Meteor Falls to Rustboro) actually has some Surf-only grass in it. I go there and am rewarded with a Swellow, whom I name Poyo.
With my new team of Kippy, Tripolar, Reina, and Poyo, I use the water routes from Petalburg to Slateport (plus the Abandoned Ship) to grind the fuck out of them, and get them all to level 30, Tripolar evolving into a badass Magneton along the way. I am now ready to head to Fortree City which I do, grabbing a Castform along the way as thanks for beating up Team Aqua (there was nothing I could use on that route anyways) and after having to deal with a couple of Kecleons, Thunderbolt the crap out of the Fortree Gym. Winona's Altaria gave me a bit of a scare but I managed to pull through with no casualties, thanks to Poyo surviving a big hit and executing Altaria with Endeavour and Quick Attack. She certainly earned that Fly HM.
By now Reina has become a Cacturne. I head down to Mt. Pyre, grabbing a Shuppet (Blankie) from Route 121. Thanks to the dupe rule I can now climb Mt. Pyre ignoring the Shuppets and catch either a Meditite (awesome) or a Vulpix (super awesome). A Vulpix it is, named Kumiho. I notice she's already got Flamethrower so I evolve her right away with my Fire Stone, but I'm a bit disappointed that she's forced to rely on only Flamethower for attacking, but I decide to test out Hidden Power.
Turns out I caught a Modest HP Electric Ninetails, hell yeah! I level her up on the inside of Mt. Pyre (where all the goths are) and blast the crap out of May. Since Team Aqua's acting up again I have to go battle with them in their hideout, but some cool stuff happens: I catch an Electrode (Smugball), I get a Master Ball, and Kippy finally evolves into Swampert! I thought the moment would never come but it did! Oh and I have to go stop Archie from taking over the world but whatever, I set sail to Mossdeep City...
Kippy Level 36
He had been lagging behind my other team members but the evolution did wonders for him to add both bulk and power to my team. Getting Surf probably helped too, and he's getting pretty handy in my team.
Reina Level 35
An massive offensive juggernaut on both ends of the spectrum, but she needs to learn Needle Arm to round out her moveset and balance that horrible speed and forgettable defenses. Still a solid Pokemon.
Tripolar Level 35
Its Special Attack is through the roof, and its amazing typing plus nice defenses make it my goto Pokemon for taking hits for the team while biting back.
Poya Level 34
She only has mediocre offense and defense, but with her speed, Double Team abuse, and Endeavor + Quick Attack combo, she's pulled me out of a couple of really tight spots.
Kumiho Level 34
She's not a master of anything but is instead well-rounded in all aspects, especially thanks to her Modest nature and HP Electric. Her Will-O-Wisp and Confuse Ray have cemented her as having a big support role too.

Ai Level 23 (Never use Shedinja in a Nuzlocke because some Leech Seed or Hail will kill it, like what happened to poor Ai)
Samur Level 15
Veegee Level 9
Raffles Level 12
Dizarro Level 16
Cumulus Level 17
Luis Level 21
Pollox Level 15
Chaser Level 20
Foreman Level 25
Blankie Level 26
Smugball Level 30
Welp I hope you enjoyed reading this! Next time: Mossdeep Gym, Kyogre, Sootopolis City, etc. Also I need some serious help coming up with nicknames; for Kumiho the Ninetails I just read through the Wikipedia page on kitsune (what Ninetails' design is based on) until I found something nice-sounding for her. But if you give me a good idea for renaming her it would be much appreciated.
My run has been very uneventful as of yet. I got lucky and snagged a Taillow just out of Petalburg, and a Wingull outside of the forest. I also got a Whismur on *whatever the hell that route's called*. Everything else has been Wurmple. :( Grovyle screwed over Roxanne's entire gym.

You know there's a "no dupe" rule, right? If you want to you can ignore additional Wurmples and instead wait until you see something you don't already have.
Also, I decided to add an extra clause into my challenge:
I am allowed to catch all legendaries, but not to train or use them. If a Pokemon faints while you're chucking balls at said legendary, it does not count as a death, since, well, catching the legendary isn't exactly part of the challenge itself.
Anyway, I'm doing pretty good now. I caught Lugia with 6 Dusk Balls. My current team:
I'm really contemplating adding an extra member into my team. I caught a Calm Slowpoke at Tohjo Falls; would you say it would be a good idea to grind it up to speed and evolve it into a Slowking? Or a Slowbro? Or grind it to Level 39, let it learnt Slack Off, then evolve it into Slowking to learn Nasty Plot? Or should I just stick to what I've got here?
P.S. Acutally, ObsidianRanger, I sorta gave up on my Scramblocke challenge, since my regular Nuzlockes were taking much, much longer than I'd expected. Sorry. :P I'll get another started eventually, I guess.
@Nanoswine: Take Cyndaquil, call it Dependant. In order for it to evolve to Quilava, you must complete evolution requirements for at least one other Pokémon. For Typhlosion, you must complete evolution requirements for at least three other Pokémon (if there are less than three others, just complete all of them to qualify).
Nanoswine, your Geodude must learn Selfdestruct (replace it with Explosion later). As long as your Geodude's Selfdestruct/Explosion KO's another Pokemon, you may revive Geodude (using Revives, Pokemon Center, etc) unlimited times. But if Geodude is ever KO'd by any other means (or if your Selfdestruct/Explosion do not KO the opposing Pokemon) it's dead.
Name it Gooseu. Ghastly must know one level up move it learned as a Ghastly, one it learned as Haunter, and one it learned as Gengar. The other move can be any TM/HM/tutor move you want, and no move relearner.
EDIT: If it hasn't evolved yet, the extra slots must all be level up moves. So, Ghastly will know three level up moves and a filler, Haunter will know one of its level up moves and two of Ghastly's, and Gengar will be as described above.
It (Bellsprout) must know all of the powder/spore moves at once. Every time it faces an opponent who might have guts/quick feet, you must use either stun spore or poison powder on it.
Name it Garbonzo
The good do die young, as I just lost one of my team members :(
Gimped died. While in the Sprout Tower, a wild Rattata appeared. After cruelly leering at Gimped, it proceeded to brutally murder it in the blink of an eye with a critical hit Quick Attack. Shortly afterwards, I recieved a top % call -_-
The rest of my team is doing well though. Nuke is very low leveled, I can't do much to train a level 3 Geodude in the Sprout tower. Dependant is pissed because NOBODY HAS GIVEN ME ANOTHER EVOLUTION REQUIREMENT YET >_< Perfurador is awesome, Bellsprouts die to Peck very easily. Gooseu has a strange fetish for licking things, as well as missing with Hypnosis. I just beat the Sprout master guy, and now I'm taking on Violet Gym.
Dies if it Faints

Ultra intense version I'm currently using that actually eliminates the possibility of excessive grinding, among other things.
