Hello everyone! Hope you all get a chance to participate in the VGC in or around your area and I really hope you get picked to play. A few fun facts everyone should know or already knows by now. It's lotto, so you might not even be able to play even if you show up (3 guys i talked to drove 9 hours to get there and not a single one of them got picked) Also if you show up before they open expect an INSANE line of people waiting to get in. My friend and I showed up as soon as the doors opened and saw the line and I wanted to cry. Though by the time i parked and walked over there the doors were open and the line was gone. Print out your team and be ready to hand it in or not. They had about 10 tables with pencils and team papers for you to fill out which took all of 10 minutes. Then go stand in line so someone can look at your paper and give you a wristband with a number and the corresponding pokemon(i had number 23 and Ekans who is number 23 in the dex, that took me a while to figure out LOL) Then you get to stand around for about 2 hours while a few people dressed up as piplup, chimchar, turtwig and pikachu walk around for you to take pictures with. All in all pretty fun. Though I'd personally show up next time about 30 min before registration closes because the standing around was pretty boring. Then they finally show the lotto numbers the tvs they had around the room(about 8 tvs or so) and if your number is picked you stand in line again and get a different wristband that lets them know you were picked. Then yet another line for you to stand in while you wait for one of the 16 spots for you to play in opens up and a judge issues you over to it(by the way the judges there were very very nice) Well the rest is a fun expierence and I dont feel like giving ALL details to it. Anyways
So I'm playing a team everyone will recognize right away. It consists of Vaporion, Ludicolo, Kingdra and Lapras. I found out about the tournament about 23 days before it started and it took me about 2 weeks to read and watch all the videos from this years japan and last years america/japan double battles and unfortunately I'm not very creative and with such a short time frame I picked what I thought was a good team and went to breading and ev training with about a week before the tournament.
Battle one was against a guy who claimed that this was the first time he ever battled at all which i didnt believe till I saw his team which I dont remember except it had 2 fire guys and he didnt know what EV training was and i rolled him in about 4 minutes.
Battle two (by the way i can't really remember the details about any of the teams. I was VERY VERY nervous and going off 2 hours sleep with a huge rockstar in my system, i literally couldn't stand still all day lol) This was much more what I was expecting to see in the tournament. EV trained team with a pretty good player. This guy obviously knew what he was doing but raindance was going and he had 2 dragons and 1 flying guy on his team so blizard and ice beam pretty much rolled him too. Plus all my guys were faster than his due to rain dance so i was OHKOing his guys before they even really got moves off.
Battle three was a good stuff team with infernape and garachomp and 2 other guys i dont remember. Once again raindance with surf and blizard pretty much pwned that team too.
Top 16 i played against a kid with a trick room team I believe. He was probably 17, give or take a year or two. I'm not sure why but he never actually used trick room though and his last pokemon was an umbreon which also threw me off but i ended up winning and was pretty happy with the results lol.
Top 8. I played a guy who used pokes I had no playtesting against and was very confused as to what might happen. Watching this video you'll probably notice all the things I should have did and how stupid my mistakes were. After locking in my moves, which was about 10 seconds too late, i realized what moves he was going to do and what I should have did instead. Either way he was a very good player and I hope he does well at nationals and makes it to worlds.
All in all a very very fun day. Could have and should have did better but I guess hind sight is 20/20. Next time hopefully I'll know more in advance and can playtest more and hopefully i'll be able to playtest against you smogoners =)
Thanks for reading this long post and I'm not on much but if anyone attending the other regionals or nationals wants or needs someone to playtest, message me and we can exchange aim/yahoo/icq names or whatever and battle. Note, I realize that I made many play errors with this last match and feel free to blast me but also please realize i didn't get to playtest as much as i wanted and I did end up at least seeing my mistakes a few seconds too late lol. Also one last thing, props to my buddy Edgar who went with me, he beat last years National champ in top 16 =)
