Sticky Orange Islands SQSA Thread

I feel really dumb right now, but for some reason I can't get the 'migrate Pokémon' option to appear in Pokémon Platinum on my DS Lite.
I've gotten to the pal park - and used it multiple times - and I've checked with the dude at the desk, there's no Pokémon stocked for a catching game. My Firered cart is inserted and showing up in the menu - in fact I was just playing it for the last few hours - and it's got way more than 6 Pokémon on it. I keep turning the game on and off again, but no matter what, in Platinum's menu there isn't a migrate Pokémon option.

I had this problem before (but with Emerald), and it was because my cartridge was fake. If you're not completely sure your game is real, then try watching this video.

I had a bootleg Leafgreen game trying to get another game either for XD or my dual slot. It obviously works for both, and it would not work. The only one remaining is Firered with no case.

I'm having a significant amount of trouble trying to get legendaries from the Ultra Wormholes. When I get to around the 2000 light year mark, I get sucked into a random wormhole despite my hardest attempts to pull away from it. Any advice?

I'm pretty sure you just have to hit more of the orange bubbles so you have enough speed to stay in control. I haven't done it a huge amount yet, but it seems like your ultimate distance is pretty much determined by how many of those bubbles you can hit in the beginning of the ride, since there are way fewer of them later on. And also don't hit the blue ones.

Didn't know which forum to post this in, so I figured I'd just use the SQSA thread in the subboard I frequent. Sorry if this is the wrong place.

Anyways. My question is, is there a way to get my old avatar back? When I signed on, the board automatically gave me a Gorebyss avatar, which I kept because that design is awesome. Then when I signed in earlier today, it randomly switched to Oshawott, a design I hate. I've put in the lovable Gintoki Sakata for now, but I really would prefer Gorebyss to come back. Any method of doing that?

Does anyone know how many Ultra Rare cards are shiny? I want to complete my collection, so knowing help out a lot. ( I'm only interested after Black and White, other expansions are too rare. )

Don't know for sure but you could use Bulbapedia to look. They've got a listing of every set released linked at the bottom of the page. Anything over the regular set number could potentially be shiny so it should be fairly quick to click to look at the image and make a count. If I remember correctly shinies started in Next Destinies and Legendary Treasures just had the gold cards as secret rares.

Sorry I can't help further, my tcg collection binders aren't that easy to get at atm.

(I right-clicked on my own avatar and viewed the image in a new tab, then replaced the last part of the url...I kinda want Koffing back too, but I'm pretty lazy.)

Pokebase QA has lots of unanswered questions, and I was wondering if I can get answers here.

Each resident in Black City has a number of points, which can be increased by defeating them in battles. Do they go up by 7 or 10? Does the player have to defeat every trainer for the 7-point or 10-point increase? If not, does defeating one trainer increase only that trainer's points or the points of all trainers?

In Explorers of Sky, what are all the items offered in the Recycle Shop (other than special offers), and what must the player do to obtain them?

When someone catches a shiny Pokemon, why is it that sometimes other people viewing that person's miscellaneous rankings in Festival Plaza see that the person encountered 0 shiny Pokemon?

Someone gets the Togepi in XD, purifies it, sends it to Emerald, and clones it. Can the clone of the Togepi be sent back to XD and traded for the Elekid?

In Generations 4 and 6, when are the roaming Pokemons' natures and IVs determined? Do they get re-rolled if the player defeats the Pokemon and then defeats the Pokemon League? The person who asked this says he saved before encountering Raikou in HGSS, and it had a modest nature no matter how many times he soft reseted.

If a Pokemon with the Pokemon contest entrance animation is transferred from ORAS to a Generation 7 game, then will the Pokemon still play that animation when entering a battle?

Why is it that a player's Festival Plaza information will sometimes display as a hyphen instead of a number?

What are all the superheroes in the TV show, like Gligarman and the Mighty Accelgor?

Who sang the English version of the Magikarp Song?

How many times has Team Rocket blasted off in the TV show?

Are Pokemon Snap cards from the original Snap station worth any money in real life?

What is a good library that's reliable, up-to-date, and includes Pokemon locations?

What routes can each roaming Pokemon not appear on (like Raikou and Entei not appearing on Routes 40 and 41 and Lati@s not appearing on Route 20)?

What are all the Poke finder Pokemons' individual max "like" tally plus percentage chances?

Why is it that a team of Diancie, Mew, Mewtwo, Meloetta, Keldeo, and Yveltal isn't allowed on free battles, even when "special allowed" is selected?

What are all the NPCs (other than Pokemon Center nurses) in SM that heal the player's team?

What determines whether or not it rains on Exeggutor Island?

In HGSS, does changing the DS's clock change the Safari Zone's day count, reset its day count, or do anything else to the Safari Zone?

When exactly can the player rematch Black Belt Kenji in HGSS? Are there any other requirements?

What are all the Pokemon that have displayed an offensive gesture in its in-game sprite (like RSE Sandshrew and DP Registeel)?

What's the best partner in Blue Rescue Team if the player is a Charmander?

Which single location in a core series game has the most traversable tiles?

How is a Pokemon's gender determined when that Pokemon is transferred from Virtual Console RBY to a newer game?

In SM, why is it that an Alakazam's psychic and future sight can't hit Hala's Hariyama and Primeape during the Pokemon League challenge?

In ORAS's Pokemon-Amie, what's the easiest way to stop a Pokemon from getting angry at the player when the player tries to play with it?

Does Virtual Console Crystal come with a 3DS theme like GS do?

In Pokemon White 2, what happens when the player loses to a gate trainer in the White Treehollow?

In HG/SS, screwing with the DS clock in any way resets the Safari Zone's day count to zero. No cheating the system to make Pokemon like Bagon appear sooner.

In Pokemon Amie/Refresh, be careful where you attempt to touch, and stick to petting Pokemon where they particularly enjoy being petted. Listen for the rubbing sound to be high pitched, and pay attention to their expressions where possible.

In gen 4, roaming legendary Pokemon's nature and IV's are set upon release into the wild. If their nature and IV's aren't to your liking, you'll need to KO them and beat the Elite Four again to re-release them into the wild to try again. There are no actual roaming legendary Pokemon in gen 6; you can soft reset the birds once they settle in to Sea Spirit's Den.

There hasn't been any 3DS theme announced with VC Crystal as of yet. Its main draw is Celebi being obtainable in-game. (as well as being compatible with the gen 7 games via Bank)

1. Only wild encounter shinies count. Bred/SOS/Gifts don't.

2. No.

3. The game usually just grabs some of the guest data and not all the specific details when connecting online. It seems to be treated as minimum for ranking purposes.

4. As of Version 1.3 Poke Transporter determines it based on the GSC gender formula (the Pokemon's Attack DV).

5. The same thing that happens when you lose to a normal trainer in the Treehollow - you get kicked out of the challenge.

I found that some of these questions weren't clear on what answers they were looking for without the original Pokebase context and description, such as the Apple Woods question which was really about a missing escort with 6F being a minor detail.

Does the Zygarde caught in Resolution Cave retain its nature, IV's, and such when "completing" it, or will it form an entirely new Zygarde with a new nature, IV's, and such? What about a Zygarde caught in gen 6?

Hello, does the board games (yes, they exist) can be disscused on this sub-forum?

http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/oi-tourist-tips-rules-discord-irc-mods-tags.3589670/

Specificaly says "Only discuss released or announced aspects of games, anime, and manga."
I know this rule is about not discussing about rumors, but I am concerned about the "games, anime and manga", because that board games
dont fit in any of those 3.

And btw, is there any thread about Pokémon: Master Trainer , the Gen 1 board game?

Thanks in advance.

So I'm attempting to get a team together in Gen 3 to take on the Battle Frontier and eventually Mt. Battle, and I'm having trouble identifying (for some of them) the most efficient spreads/hold items. Here's what I have down on paper so far:

Milotic
Bold@Lefties
252 HP/252 Def/4 SpA
Surf/Ice Beam/Recover/Hypnosis or Toxic

Salamence
Rash@?
(EVs TBD, I looked at the Smogon analysis for Gen 3 and I'm not convinced that the in game spread is the same as the competitive one)
Dragon Claw/Fire Blast/Earthquake/Rock Slide or Brick Break

Metagross
Adamant@Choice Band
252 HP/252 Atk/4 Spd
Meteor Mash/Explosion/Earthquake/Rock Slide

Swampert
Brave@Lefties
(EVs TBD)
Surf/Ice Beam/Earthquake/Rock Slide

Dragonite
(unsure as of yet, advice would be grand)@?
(EVs TBD, with Nature)

Registeel
Careful@Lefties
(EVs TBD)
Rock Slide/EQ/Curse/Rest

I'm only planning on using the first three to do some of the Frontier, and adding the last three for my Mt. Battle squad. The final spot is up in the air, I'd have to get insanely lucky or learn how to RNG in 3rd gen for a usable Registeel, but the number of solid Steels after Metagross that I have access to is... shallow at best. Also, since my Frontier run will be using LV 50s, is there any optimizing needed to make EVs more effiecient? Thanks!

Battle Frontier opponents rarely switch, so dragon dance and fly might be a good way for Salamence to get physical STAB.

Which is the best way to get experience in USUM (to level up to 100) - SOS battles with the Chansey bushes in Poni Plains, or the Elite Four?

Chansey SoS are way faster if you can set them up, mostly because you can keep a rotoexp boost going for the entire potentially endless chain

Dragon Claw/Fire Blast/Earthquake/Rock Slide or Brick Break
From my personal experiences with the Frontier in Gen 3, I recommend a pure Physical set for Salamence.
Dragon Dance / Earthquake / Aerial Ace / Rock Slide or Brick Break @ Lum Berry
For a DD set. If you want a Choice Band set instead, remove Dragon Dance and go with both Rock Slide and Brick Break.
Adamant Nature works very well. As for the EVs, just maxing Attack and Speed with the rest in HP worked for me. Though you could try less Speed and more HP if you want to, at least for the DD set.

The board games are free to talk about if you wish to make a thread with a decent OP. I have actually played that game and it is horrendously unbalanced/difficult to win. Fun to play though.

For the likes of Suicune and Rayquaza in the ultra wormholes, how does encountering them work? Does having the two Pokemon you need in your party guarantee running into them no matter what level of wormhole as long as you head into the right colour, or do you have to go through the same rng bs as usual?

I imagine there's no guarantee for them to show up and have to go through the same RNG. Having the required Pokemon in your party just ensures that they can show up, not necessarily that they will. (I think it's even more annoying for Rayquaza and Landorus because you don't get to see the legendary until it actually attacks)

Thank you

Another one about wormholes I forgot to ask: which non-white ones count as caves for dusk balls? I'd imagine everything but red, but game freak can be weird sometimes so i just want to clarify.

Also, not related directly to pokemon but I have nowhere else to ask; but does anyone know if the scart cable for the wii will fit and work for the wii u?

I'd figure the yellow ones would be obvious, but I also somehow doubt Game Freak would have made any of them considered caves for Dusk Ball to work better in, just on the basis you're not getting attacked by Zubat or Alolan Diglett every two or three steps none of them explicitly say "cave" or "cavern" when visited. I'd try and test it myself, but I don't think Palkia looks good in a Dusk Ball and I don't really want to leave it to go check.
