OU CCAT: Nidoking Edition

1) Wish Jirachi
2) Swords Dance Heracross
3) Wallbreaker Hydreigon

I like the wall breakers, but usually bulky offense invest much of its team slots in a defensive core. Jirachi fits here imo.

Congrats skilididy!

Rotom-W @ Leftovers
Nature: Bold (+Def, -Atk)
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 112 HP / 96 Def / 156 SpA / 144 Spe
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
- Thunder Wave
- Pain Split

Slightly tweaked from the standard set, this Rotom is designed to aid Nidoking and Virizion. Specifically, it absorbs the Banded Bullet Punches they are sure to attract, as well as spreading helpful paralysis with Thunder Wave. Volt Switch is chosen over Thunderbolt to further act as a team pivot. (Please tell me if I am being inefficient with my EV spread, as I know I am not the best at creating them)

Will everyone be fine if a spread of 252 HP / 212 Def / 44 SpA is used? If not, I think we can tweak the spread if need be. just post in this topic with a spread and justify it thoroughly - that should be enough.

edit - we'll use 252 HP / 204 Def / 52 SpA

I'm fine with that. We definitely need Rotom-W to be defensively oriented.

is the 44 SpA for any specific purpose or just to give him a bit more punch to his attacks? If not then maybe we should move it to defence to run a simple spread of 252/252, I can't work out what it's achieving, does it gain any notable 2hkos or something like that?
Also I'd like to sorta think that it was my suggestion, I just didn't feel like repostng it for the 3rd time :P

I agree with shnen; unless those SpA is tailored to knock out a particular threat with Hydro Pump / Volt Switch, mine as well just max HP and Def.

I would go with 252 HP / 204 Def / 52 SpA. With 52 SpA, Rotom-W 3HKOs 252 / 252+ Tyranitar after Stealth Rock and also guarantees an OHKO on Gliscor.

The Rotom-W set looks solid but we need to be more creative with this poke. I know I'm a bit late bringing up this suggestion but ah well. Bulky Rotom-W at Chesto Berry is one of the most effective Rotom-W sets I've ever seen. I'd personally use an offensive set instead of a bulky one but since you guys voted this, here it is. This pokes unpredictability ensures some critical kills which can be rewarding for other team-mates. The EVs are pretty straight forward taken from Pocket's earlier post. I'd use Hidden Power Fire or Grass (depending on my team) on this poke which nicely goes along with the set. Volt Switch is a better option for scouting purposes but Thunderbolt gives insurance against Gyarados and Rain Teams. The whole purpose for Chesto Berry is to bluff a Choiced Item (no further explanation needed there) and rest off the damage when necessary.

Rotom-W @ Chesto Berry
Nature: Bold (+Def, -Atk)
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 204 Def / 52 SpA
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch / Thunderbolt
- Thunder Wave / Will-O-Wisp / Hidden Power [Grass / Ice / Fire]
- Rest

Chesto Rest may be useful in a sense that it provides full recovery when we desire and also cures status conditions. However, we're pretty much set on T-Wave on Rotom-W, so I don't think we would be able to bluff the Scarf set when we start spamming T-Waves. Plus, I'd think Rotom-W would miss the Lefties recovery more than you think - Lefties makes a lot of difference when it comes to minimizing residual damage.

I've never tried ChestoRest Rotom-W, though, so if I'm off-base here, please tell me. In the other hand, HP Grass > Pain Split may be a viable option to dispatch slightly weakened Gastrodon for Nidoking, not to mention Gastrodon totally walls Rotom-W otherwise.

I think that set's pretty neat with its surprise factor, but I chose Rotom-W in mind with being an effective attack absorber and pivot for the team. As Pocket said, the loss of Leftovers as well as Pain Split could be severely detrimental to what is in my mind, a mainly defensive set that can spread paralysis. Considering that, a one-time recovery doesn't appeal to me all that much.
