Wasted Potential: The Pokemon

Seriously if these stats are accurate he won't be making much of an impression, especially with a pretty crappy movepool which has Parting Shot and nothing else. If this guy doesn't get some good shit like Close Combat ASAP I see it being a good RU mon and not much more.

And if Game Freak won't give anything else Parting Shot I WILL kill a baby.
I'll be shocked if this thing even manages to become somewhat viable in the NU tier.

It'll be dumpster tier if those are its real stats.

PK Gaming? Hey you're the guy doing that fantastic Wonderful 101 lets play aren't you? Mad respect man, (unless I've got the wrong guy)

Back on topic, has anybody tried breeding Parting Shot onto Sneasel? I guess that'll be my next thing to test, but I'm really starting to get annoyed with how poor the distribution is on some of these new moves this gen.

If it's the only non-Smeargle Parting Shot user, I'm sure it'll be able to put that to use in some tier. But probably a very low one.

Heh. Even with a Choice Scarf, this thing only outspeeds positive base 111s and neutral base 127s. Which, sad as it is, could still be significant if you're competing with weak enough foes?

With no sucker punch, close combat, drain punch, (the list goes on and on) the limited usefulness of this mon doesn't go well with its stats. At best I see him being used in RU with a solid CB set.

Pangoro, good or not, will be a staple for me no matter what tier it falls in just because of sheer awesomeness as has been said before. I see it ending up in uu. It seems a little overpowered with the cb set for ru, breaking walls such as slowking, SDef amoongus, lanturn, and spiritomb on the switch. It most likely won't be able to keep up with ou's harsh offense. I believe uu is the perfect spot for him; walling azelf, crushing his cousin scrafty and being in check by virizion and togekiss.

Seems silly to recommend poison jab for the likes of Sylveon and Gardevoir. Both of these will usually outspeed Pangoro and with his 4x weakness to their stab, he has no chance of using it effectively. It would be nice vs some slower fairies though.

It stops them from switching in safely, though.

Nah, it'd do fine in NU. Wouldn't be better than Sawk, but its bulk is fine and I guess Parting Shot would give it some niche. It definitely needs better stats though.

No, that's Dedenne.
Dedenne never had potential to begin with, it's obviously this gen's Pikachu clone. Dedenne is actually better than I expected, it doesn't seem as atrocious as Emolga, Minun and friends at least.

Dedenne is available after Heliolisk. It is after the third gym and before the fourth, which is a signifigant time investment in terms of this game. There have been many electric types available at that point, including Heliolisk, but also Plusle, Minun, Emolga, and the ORIGINAL PIKACHU. By this point, YOU CAN CATCH PSUEDO LEGENDARIES (and Axew, who's pretty darned close).

The fact that it ends up so... abjectly HORRIBLE... is nothing but a failure on Nintendo's part. Why is it that of the electric rodents, only the original is really worth it ingame, and only then if you evolve it? I thought the slight upswing for Emolga was a sign, but NOOOOOOOOOPADOPEONAROPE, if anything it's a backshift.

Pangoro is at least available early and ends up with a really good base attack, which is... somewhat salvageable for ingame.

Ingame? Ingame? You're talking like Pangoro's a lost cause. Remember, Serebii isn't for sure yet. (He better be wrong...)

Well, it's not that it's a lost cause, but if it is at least usable ingame then it is considerable for the lower tiers (I'm not counting things like Blissey that fail ingame and work out, supporters and walls are going to be better in competitive of course... but Pangoro is neither).

The fact is, if you use Pangoro ingame... ok, it's a question of "why not use Mienshao" or somesuch, but at least you can give a reason. With Dedenne...

Huh... well, what do you think are the chances of Serebii being right?

Honestly I'm shocked at the differences between the original estimated spread and Serebii's. There's a loss of 6-15 points in EVERY STAT. I've seen other Pokemon with differences (I made the Gogoat thread earlier and found up to 7 point differences, for example) but 15 points off is huge, it makes me wonder if those numbers are accurate. I have to assume they are unless proven otherwise... and if so, Pangoro just tumbled of a tiering cliff.

I guess he must be a sad panda now. Yuk yuk.

That's why I can't believe it. Everyone's been so sure of his stats for so long. To take such a hike is unforgivable. Serebii's stats suck.

I'm calling Tauros Crud on this one.

That joke physically caused me pain. Get out.

ON A MORE SERIOUS NOTE, those go from a range of... 6, I think? (manageable) to the insane, things like 12, 13, and 15! Having such lower scores reeks to me of one of us vastly being off on the estimation, and I'm going to go with Serebii on this one - not to knock him, but he effectively said "these aren't the real base stats guys"

Didn't Serebii say that he could be wrong, too?

Ha, excellent!... anyway, as I said in my post I'm assuming Serebii is correct as well. The reason is because I remember Pangoro's stat estimates were done in the very early going, one of the first of all XY mons. Whoever did the calc could have made very faulty EV or IV estimations, came up with those numbers, and we've just been rolling along naively thinking they would turn out to be correct. Since Serebii's other calcs match up with our more accurate ones (like on Greninja or Gourgeist) I think he's got these correct too. A disappointment for sure, but probably correct.

Edit: WildShot, yes they could still be incorrect, but only to + or - 5 points, I don't think there's any way he could be 15 points off.

I expected it to not have amazing stats, but this is hilarious. Makes me feel better about Parting Shot though.
