Parasect (Analysis) [GP 1/2]

Status
Not open for further replies.
Just saying that you keep on saying that Parasect has a unique typing, but nowhere in the analysis do you actually mention what this typing is. It is your job as the writer to inform people about the pokemon and what its benefits are and where it lacks.
Thanks guys

O.O I cant beleive I didnt mention that.
Ill mention it in the Overview.

EDIT: Mentioned. Once the Analysis is released, It will be seen above where the stats are so it doesnt really matter. But still, thanks for pointing that out.

Hmm. I do like Parasect--and I can see how he will be useful in OU. I just hope he isn't actually restricted to OU (as in-I hope he stays in UU) because I use Parasect in my UU team.

A nitpick but smeargle can subseed and spore (even though it never will) when the first line says only parasect and brellom can.

Status: Ready for QC checks, then I will formally write analysis. All feedback appreciated :)

[Overview]

Parasect. Definitely a one-of-a-kind Rags to Riches story. Who knew that one day a Pokemon would rise from the fallen depths of the Never Used tier to join some of the greats in the Over Used tier.

Gen 5 has been very kind to Parasect as of the banning of the Drizzle and Swift Swim combo, making room for Parasect in a Rain team because of it's Ability, Dry Skin. Combine that with Leech Seed, Leftovers, and a couple of turns to spare while the opponent is asleep with Spore makes Parasect a massive headache to deal with in Rain teams. Parasect being a Grass/Bug type resists the two most painful weaknesses that Rain teams share: Grass and Electric. Parasect also resists some of the most used types in the OU metagame, Ground and Fighting. Unluckily for Parasect, the fun stops there. Its unique typing also opens it up to a number of 4x weaknesses, Fire and Flying, a Stealth Rocks weakness, and a 2x weakness to Ice and Bug??.

Overall, Parasect is one of the only Grass types that fit into a Rain team, and with a couple of unique moves to back it up, Parasect can become one of the most effective stallers out there.

[Set]
name: Rain SubSeeder
move 1: Spore
move 2: Substitute
move 3: Leech Seed
move 4: X-Scissor / Protect
item: Leftovers
nature: Careful
ability: Dry Skin
evs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SpDef

[Set Comments]

Parasect is the only SubSeeder out there not named Breloom that can learn one of the best moves in the game, Spore. A 100% accuracy move that induces sleep will give you a couple of free turns to regenerate your Hp, or atleast one turn of free healing if the opponent decides to switch out. If you combine Leech Seed, Dry Skin and Leftovers recovery, plus a couple of turns to kill, thats alot of Hp. Here you have to decide which move fits the last slot best best. X- Scissor is a great move for dealing with those pesky Grass type pokemon who resist Leech Seed, hitting them super effectively, and it also gains STAB. It also allows Parasect to defeat Ferrothorn in the rain by healing the residual damage that it causes. Ferrothorn also cannot break Parasects subs easily as none of its moves are effective against Parasect. This works well because Ferrothorn is immune to Parasects Leech Seed and T-Spikes. Protect also works as a pseudo healing move if you plan on going full stall, which will come in handy for healing alot of your Hp.

[Additional Comments]

Just like Leavanny and Plant Wormadam (due to the same typing), it will be taking more Special hits than Physical. The defensive EVs plus the nature bring the Special Defense to a higher level than the Defense. You may also take away 28 Defense EVs and put them into Speed to be able to outspeed Wobbuffet, but they are rare in the metagame. Aromatherapy is a very interesting move to use over Spore to be able to heal any status conditions that Parasect or its teammates were affected by. In the rain, Parasect has a couple of teammates that really shine. One of them is Lanturn, as Parasect covers both of it's weaknesses: Grass and Ground. Lanturn also covers Parasects' Fire, Flying and Ice weaknesses. Another great Partner is Omastar, as it covers all of Parasects weaknesses with the exception of Rock. And Parasect also covers some of its weaknesses, which are Fighting, Ground, and Electric. A Pokemon that can learn Toxic Spikes works very well with Parasect as it makes Parasects job of stalling a whole load easier, but keep in mind that you wont be able to use Spore due to the fact that once the opponent switches in, it will be poisoned.

[Other Options]

Apart from on a Rain team, there isn't much that Parasect can do. But some other useful moves that are in Parasects movepool are Swords Dance, Growth, and Light Screen. Another set that Parasect could utilize into its vast arsenal of sets is a Double Powder set, which uses Spore and Stun Spore to spread status to the opposing team.

[Checks and Counters]

Anything that is able to change the weather is very threatening for Parasect, especially Sun as it increases Parasects 4x weakness to Fire and gradually decreases its health because of Parasects ability, Dry Skin. Whimsicott can be a nuisance to deal with as it isn't effected by Leech Seed due to its pure Grass-typing. It also poses a huge threat as it can both Taunt and Toxic before you can Spore or even bring up a Sub. If you are running Parasect without X-Scissor, you will have a very hard time dealing with Xatu and Espeon as they both posses the ability Magic Bounce, which will reflect any status condition back to Parasect. Very few Pokemon possess the ability Herbivore, and even fewer actually use it. But you must be aware of it as it raises the Pokemons Attack by one if hit by a grass move.

[Dream World]

Parasect learns Damp. Apart from Jellicent??, there is absolutely no reason to use this ability because Explosion has been nerfed.

Nice analysis. I'm not an official grammar guy, but I thought I'd help =D. Changes are in bold, while the underlined things are ones I don't understand. Parasect doesn't have a bug weakness, and I don't know what you mean by Burungeru.

I'm sorry if I missed anything. To be honest, I really got quite bored near the end because of so many changes I made. Lol, sorry.

About the parts I bolded, in competitive battling, "outspeed" is a valid word to use, and there is no hi-fen between the words "movepool".

Alright, that's fine. Sorry about that. I was thinking thinking about that and couldn't say either way was correct or not. Thanks SA.

No need to get this done in a hurry. The GP check members are all already busy with their personal affairs, in real life and on Smogon, so it may take some time for them to go hack on this.

On the other hand, good to see getting this done is your priority, but please have patience. ^^

So i'm bored at work so if you don't mind i'll check some of the grammar. First time i've done this so make sure you check my changes and agree with them before actually putting them in.

Do you really need to explain what stalling is? I thought the analyses assume they have some basic knowledge similar to how natures aren't explained in every analysis.

Changes in bold. Red is to be removed. Blue is additions.

Parasect is definitely a one-of-a-kind Rags to Riches story. Who knew that one day a Pokemon will rise from the fallen depths of the Neverused tier to join some of the greats in the Overused tier.

Most stalling Pokemon are hard to take down. A great example of a good stalling Pokemon is Blissey) out there.

It also allows Parasect to defeat Ferrothorn in the rain by healing the residual damage that it causes. Ferrothorn also cannot break Parasects' subs easily as Parasect resists Power Whip and takes little damage from Gyro Ball due to its low speed its moves are residual to Parasect. Shinyazelf told me to add the stalling part.

EDIT: whoopsies, I forgot to take out some notes that other gp checkers put there foe me. Thanks ;)

EDIT 2: You know what, I actually agree wiht you on the stalling. Im sure other analysis have some sort of pokemon terminology.
