Week 3

Pyroak

With good defenses and a strong typing, CAP's third creation has shown itself to be a capable defensive mon in the current metagame. It also carries numerous defensive options including Stealth Rock, Toxic, Roar, and even Aromatherapy if you are will, as well as coverage like Earth Power and Giga Drain. All packed in with a reliable recovery move, Pyroak can be quite formidable in battle. However, it does have a weakness to Stealth Rocks, and common Pokemon in the metagame like Mega Crucibelle and Tomohawk can cut through its defenses.

This core basically compresses a typical Fire/Water/Grass core into just two mons, with Pyroak taking care of Grass, Fairy, Electric and Steel types, while Arghonaut deals with Fire, Water, Rock and Dark. Arghonaut uses a standard Specially defensive EV spread, to reduce the damage from Volkraken and Greninja, while Pyroak invests fully on the physical defense, something unusual in the current meta, as Specially Defensive variants are much more common. However, it still able to check the likes of Krilowatt and Koko, and complements Specially Defensive Arghonaut better. This core also packs both Stealth Rock and Spikes, so they can be used to rack up residual damage against the opponent, which is great in defensive and offensive team alike.

All that being said, there are a lot of ways to break this core, such as Tornadus-T, Tapu Lele and, M-Medicham , just to name a few. Therefore, to make this pair truly shine, you still need some support from other teammates. Zapdos, Mew and Kitsunoh are some of the best options available for this job, but there are many more possibilities, both defensively and offensively to complement this pair.

Pajantom can switch-in and force Tomohawk out while also spinblocking it, which helps the longevity of the rocks that Pyroak sets up. Common switch-ins to Pajantom include Steels such as Ferrothorn and Celesteela and Fairies such as Clefable and Jumbao, all of which Pyroak can handily deal with. Pyroak can come in and safely either heal, set up rocks, or even attempt to burn a switch-in or catch a Heatran or Crucibelle on the switch with Earth Power. One of the more common ways to deal with Pyroak is to set up rocks and then double around until it is too low to check what it is supposed to but Spirit Shackle doesn't allow the opponent to switch out (unless they use a move like Volt Switch) which allows Pyroak more switch-ins throughout the game and the ability to stay healthy so it can keep checking what it is meant to.

Toxapex and Pyroak are two very disgusting defensive mons that create a very solid fire, water, grass core. It fits very well on balance teams. Pyroak helps toxapex deal with electric and some ground types while toxapex helps deal with certain rocks types, poison types, and flying types. They are also both capable hazard setters to put on balance teams to help the rest of the team clean up after the opponent keeps taking poison and rock damage. While this is quite weak to taunt users and ground types, you can pair this core with something like zapdos, tornadus, and tomohawk for an even formidable core.

Week 4
Gliscor



A newcomer to the CAP campus as of late, Gliscor has shown its stuff as a great defensive Ground-type not to be compared with Landorus-Therian. Its great defensive typing in Ground/Flying may be similar to Landorus-T, but its combination of Poison Heal and Roost makes it very hard to kill for a lot of foes, and can bring the hurt in return with Earthquake or Knock Off. It also has the ability to run great utility options like Taunt, Stealth Rock, and Defog, making it a great fit for many a team. This is somewhat new ground to cover (pun intended), so I look forward to this Week's submissions!

Gliscor and Arghonaut are very good mons on balance builds. Arghonaut covers for gliscor’s water and ice weakness while Gliscor covers Arghonaut’s electric weakness. They both are good hazard setters as well. They are a very hard core to beat down since Argonaut can phase the set up mons while Gliscor can taunt the fat mons.
