Pokémon GO

I don't blame them for wanting to shut down the radar apps because it does in effect make the game too easy, but if you're going to do that at least fix your own tracking system. Don't swing the pendulum to the complete other side because that will drive your players away altogether. What's the purpose of roaming around now if it's totally blind? I don't mind having to think and explore a little and "track" a pokemon I'm looking for, and I'm sure the bulk of players feel the same way. Why not let us?

I should note that I understand and would support Niantic's decision to close down the radar sites had this new update introduced a better tracking system thus making such sites unneeded and keeps with their vision of players exploring. My disappointment comes from Niantic not listening and letting people wander blindly.

Not sure how they can solve the problem with disabled players unable to participate fully. My best solution is adding a Lure Level, the more Lures you use the more Lure Levels you get and the better/rarer the Pokemon you draw (even if they're not native to where you are). They could also make it so that the more Pokemon get by using a Lure and if the Lure is used in the same location also raises the Lure Level/likelihood of finding more and rarer Pokemon. People who aren't disabled would be encouraged to get out and walk as they'd still get more Pokemon that way. Of course there's still the problem of PokeSpots and Gyms but maybe having a community system could fix that (like have a "team deposit box" where players can submit Pokemon and Items for their other team members can get. If a Pokemon gotten from this deposit box is used to win a Gym both the person who used the Pokemon to win the Gym and the person who caught the Pokemon would get the benefits of that Pokemon holding the Gym. If the Pokemon is knocked out of the Gym they go directly back to the person who caught it).

I wouldn't call them incompetent, just blinded by their vision. What Niantic's CEO visions is people diligently searching around for nearby Pokemon, discovering either more Pokemon or something/places in the real world they've never knew was their before. But in reality the lack of direction makes people frustrated when they see a Pokemon they want and are made to wonder around, and by the time they find the Pokemon (if they do) they could be tired, hungry/thirsty, and maybe even short of in-game supplies if they caught other Pokemon on their way to finding the Pokemon they actually want. It's that ever popular conflict between ideals & truth, Niantic's vision just isn't supported by the truth.

And now that they made wild catches more difficult having enough supplies for when you get to the Pokemon you want is even more crucial.

I'm wondering if this isn't also out of spite on Niantic's part. Someone made their game easier to play so now they're somewhat lashing out.

"WE think you should be ~exploring~ to get your Pokemon!" *Closes down Pokemon Radar sites*
"Oh, you think some Pokemon are too powerful? Fine!" *Nerfs all the popular Pokemon*
""
"You think catching Pokemon is too easy. You asked for it!" *Makes catches harder*
"There! Maybe next time you'll think about giving us legitimate complaints to make the game more enjoyable!"

Not saying eventually these changes shouldn't be made, but I think they might have done these changes early without the system needed to support them to back them up.

EDIT: The honeymoon is officially over. I hope satisfying your ego instead of listening to players was worth it Niantic.

Dangit, Zekrom!

Hhh, I hope I could live with it. Maybe not. Throwing out tons of saved better balls only for it to run away is....

Kotaku there said that they have sent cease and desist letters and that's indeed their right. But yeah, as said, this is not a good move when they just pretty much threw away one crucial feature instead of fixing it. Maybe Go internationally won't live as long as I had hoped....

Actually, as far as complaints against tracking are concerned, I myself can identify 3 or 4 "hotspots" at my local park that contains that narrow range to walk into in which a Pokemon will reliably spawn in that location, across multiple days, and multiple times of day. I'll probably be able to identify more hotspots as I explore the same areas more and more.

Also, some nice advice for Gymbuilding! If you managed to be able to place 2 or more Pokemon on the point, have the first one be rather weak, and then the 2nd one be really strong, or something like that! The point is, you need to give friendly members of your team a reliable method of training the gym's prestige!

Why did they make the Pokemon so much fucking harder to catch oh my god a fucking 67 caterpie escaped from 4 balls before fleeing and all the while was jumping and knocking the balls away are they trying to lose players

Well, I'm not saying I can't play as a disabled person, but I think the tracker is important to open the game up to as many types of people as possible (children, older people, people with less time, disabled people, people who live in certain types of areas that aren't great for wandering) while still allowing the exploration elements to dominate, and I agree with you entirely that a better tracker would've fixed that and supported both the type of play where you roam around freely and the more deliberate type of play where you know where Pokémon spawn / go to your school to catch Pokémon with a Lure Module in a specific spot / whatever

I'm saying wandering blindly is not as easy an option for me; everywhere I go I have to wander carefully, I can't just use the screen and hope I find a ramp or a safe path or something. A tracker would make it a lot easier for me to conserve my energy and know what Pokémon are a lost cause and so forth! I was playing Go with a Smogon member in the USA and we would drive around his neighbourhood looking for Pokémon and have a great time exploring and looking for new places to catch things, but sometimes I would see something I desperately wanted and it'd look like it was in a carpark or something and I'd have no real way of knowing without the tracker/Pokévision =| or in the golf course which we trespassed in looking for something and I fell because it wasn't safe LMAO...

The tracker would incentivise me to explore, basically, because I'd have a likelier chance of finding what I wanted and thus have a reasonable basis to say 'Hey, go drive there and let's go on foot' or 'let's take this detour' or 'I want this Jigglypuff, and it's in a direction that's clear of hazards so let's go see what's there'. I mean, I was having a holiday so it made tourism very fun :) But I wish the tracker worked.

As a car/school player... not liking the harder catches either hahah T___T Sure, at school I get good supplies, so I'm blessed in that regard, but catching something in time has become a nightmare.

Speaking of the catching becoming harder thing, I'm wondering if they plan on bringing in the mechanic of using your Pokemon to weaken wild Pokemon like in the games. Of course even if this is the case that doesn't excuse them making captures harder now when we can't do anything about it.

I wish they can include something for the disabled.

I'm not directly physically disabled, but my medication affects my muscles.
I was walking too much (for an hour) the day before , and I felt really dizzy and wanted to vomit for too much walking. (That's way too much walking for me)

My dad was like "You wanted to puke after too much walking? Hahaha. Let me give you 100 bucks to buy a pair of new snickers for walking. Nothing else can make you walk!"

Ya... I bought a really nice pair of snickers with that.
Dad wants me to slowly increase my walking distance.

But I still think Pokemon GO is unfair for disabled people.

I honestly think it has to do with the fact you can buy PokéBalls, because the best way to capitalise on its popularity would be to capitalise on the purchases being made while it's popular right now, and PokéStops are such a good free source of PokéBalls. idk. I really hope it's not that but I strongly suspect it is.

What I hate is egg hatching :/ It's so important and there's nothing you can do but walk/cycle.. or drive very very slowly (how most of mine got hatched is just having my phone open over lots of slower drives and at busy intersections lol). I know there are tricks but I don't own a Roomba, wouldn't do that to my old dog, etc. :P It would be nice if there were things that incubated eggs other than just walking, because I can't hatch eggs at a good rate at all and you can only hold 9 at a time, which means I don't get much out of walking when it's a lot of effort for me :( I love being outside playing Pokémon Go but there are still limits to how fast I can go and where I can go. I sympathise with you very much, please stay safe when you play and I hope you won't have to walk that much again. (Also those meds sound unpleasant :x)

Idk I love the feeling of being part of something with Go (seeing other people playing it :D or businesses advertising to Go-playing customers! found loads in the USA and took pics haha, I ate lunch at a PokéStop most days and if there wasn't a Lure Module up I'd put it up since the ads falsely claimed there were Pokémon there :P), just like Wi-Fi gave me that feeling when it came out or when Pokémon was popular in the late '90s/early '00s, I love that I can participate by being in the car / when I'm outside / with incenses and lure modules especially, I wish I could speed up my eggs tho.. 10km eggs ._.

I haven't played Go for about a week (haven't really had the energy to go walking) but the time I had with it was good. It gave me something else to do on walks. With that said, the removal of footsteps and Pokévision is quite disappointing (especially as Niantic hasn't mentioned anything about if we're getting them fixed, any sort of replacement, etc).

Also I don't think there's any reason not to make things easier for disabled people. Get on it Niantic.

Go is unfair for a lot of people.

I am totally aghast that they removed the tracking feature entirely as well as removing the location maps of where you found Pokemon. No Niantic, I do not feel like wandering around aimlessly for 30 minutes while something may be close to me but I never cross paths with it. I think people are well within their rights to ask for refunds as the game is not how it was when released, nor how it was advertised.

EDIT: https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemongo/...refusal_to_accept_support_emails_is_a/d5yu3og

It seems like that any tickets which actually go to Niantic are not getting looked at... It also sounds like Google are now investigating Niantic around the issues that have been going on...

There are reports of users issuing a complaint on the iTunes Store and getting their in-app purchases refunded, for those interested in trying.

Okay so apparently overnight Niantic posted to their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/PokemonGO/posts/940141879465704

Trainers,

As many of you know, we recently made some changes to Pokémon GO.

- We have removed the ‘3-step’ display in order to improve upon the underlying design. The original feature, although enjoyed by many, was also confusing and did not meet our underlying product goals. We will keep you posted as we strive to improve this feature.

- We have limited access by third-party services which were interfering with our ability to maintain quality of service for our users and to bring Pokémon GO to users around the world. The large number of users has made the roll-out of Pokémon GO around the world an... interesting… challenge. And we aren’t done yet! Yes, Brazil, we want to bring the game to you (and many other countries where it is not yet available).

We have read your posts and emails and we hear the frustration from folks in places where we haven’t launched yet, and from those of you who miss these features. We want you to know that we have been working crazy hours to keep the game running as we continue to launch globally. If you haven’t heard us Tweeting much it’s because we’ve been heads down working on the game. But we’ll do our best going forward to keep you posted on what’s going on.

Be safe, be nice to your fellow trainers, and keep on exploring.

The Pokémon GO team

At least they are attempting to communicate at this point? IDK, it feels like they have bitten off far more than they could have hoped to chew...

Bullshit. This requires that you have some level of quality in the first place before you can claim other things are disrupting your ability to maintain it.

Am I the only one who likes the new update? The app finally works for me and the tracker issue can be mitigated if you just use a GitHub-sourced tracker. Everything looks sleeker, and the transfering is easier. Yeah not having the steps sucks but it hasn't been there for awhile. I'm pretty sure it will come back eventually but like, working.

So the newest update did interesting things.

Trainer Avatars can now be re-customized (why this wasn't a feature before I don't know).
Adjusted moves damage (as many of you have noticed).
Improved memory issues (now you won't have to burn through your data, just your battery!).
Updated some animations, graphics, and displays.
Oh, and this little thing of removing footprints of nearby Pokemon.

Well the good news is you don't need to worry about the 3-step glitch, but now you're left wondering how far away a "nearby" Pokemon is. Not really a solution bu more giving up. Not saying they shouldn't get rid of it, but replace it with something else, say like something which pointed you in the direction the Pokemon is. Who cares if its "nearby", tell us where to go! Either give a "You have # meters to go" or a compass pointing North, South, East, and West. This is why people are using PokeRadar, Niantic CEO John Hanke. There's a difference between exploring your environment with a known goal/destination and wandering around lost. The former is fun and when you arrive to your intended place you're excited for the upcoming encounter, the other is annoying and the relief of finding what you're searching for is more so you don't have to look anymore.
Wl it's good they added the ability to recustomize yourself...

Something weird I noticed was that with some Pokemon, poke balls are actually better than great balls!

I'm sure most people here have already heard of the elusive Articuno being owned by some accounts, with screenshots from multiple people to confirm its existence as a legitimate Articuno (as in, other players can interact with it in Gyms and battle it).

While the possibility of this being real or fake is still up in the air, what do people think of these sightings?

A lot of people on the PokemonGO Reddit were catching things that turned into other things when caught earlier today. I presume anyone with an Articuno or other legendary would have their accounts rolled back/the legendary removed.

What I'm wondering is how did they get it? Did they hack it somehow and how?

It's not this because the server still spawns the Pokemon that was intended... just the client-side gets confused and shows you the wrong Pokemon until you actually catch it. The legendaries don't have a spawn rate unless you forcibly hack it in (and this will probably revert the moment the server realizes you are hacking).

How they got it is very suspect. One user claimed they got it as an apology from Niantic... they later showed the e-mail with the supposed information on the Articuno and it was completely filled with errors. Could also be client side skins to change a Pokemon into Articuno, but that doesn't explain people seeing it and being able to battle it (unless these people reporting the Articuno sightings are all in on it). Either way, everything about this is bizarre.
