Pokémon Legends: Z-A General Discussion

Interestingly it seems to be a mix of Wild Zones and the Royale where you will be doing missions to get a ticket for... something. No idea what that could possibly be though

On a slightly related note

What the hell could they possibly mean by "use the catch window"

I assume the brief opening you get to catch a Pokémon after KOing it? No clue what else it could be.

Huh, so the leaks were right about the returning Pokemon and the new Megas. That makes me mad about the Glameow line being overshadowed by Meowth again. Seriously, would it kill them to include them?

Kind of weird that Baxcalibur is getting a Mega so soon. I honestly thought that Hydreigon would be a better candidate due to being a popular Pokemon, and the fact, while not, bad it still overshadowed by a lot other Dragon and Dark types, like Latios and Chi-Yu. Baxcalibur was banned to Ubers in its debut Gen.

Also want to say, we don't seem to have much of an idea of what the story is going to be like (which to be fair was also the case for the base game's trailers). SwSh and SV both had their own arcs going on in their respective DLCs so I would assume there's more to this than just "Donut Girl lets you go investigate Hyperlumiose"

Similarly I'm wondering how nrw Mega Stones will be obtained (aside from Baxcalibur's, as the site explains that one is through Ranked). In the base game, you unlocked them by either defeating the respective Rogue Mega or by ranking up, usually after seeing some NPC use a new Mega it would show up in Quasartico.

Are we just going to have a bunch of new Rogues? That is one part of the game I am hoping the DLC expands in. I can't really see there being new characters for every single DLC mega (however many there are) so either they get the Rogue treatment, Korrina gets to use all of them against us or there is just some entirely new method to unlock the stones

Or they just abruptly appear at Quasartico/the Stone Emporium.

It seems the Donuts are levels and they have some kind of calories. Makes me wonder what lv should I keep my Team to make the play challenging but not almost impossible. I bet the main game including L and Zygarde battles with a Team on around lv 74. I didn't do the Infinite AZ Royale task yet as I'm planning to but a trial of Nintendo online around 25.11 to unlock all Kalos Mega Stones and use a bit Mega Delphox since she's part of my Team from Day 1 and now she can finally get her Mega. I'm thinking if I should cap around lv 80 or higher.

I don't think any of the mega stones new in z-a were added to the shops without you fighting a story trainer that used them first, actually: aside from the story important ones and the starters, they either were a trainer's ace or a rogue mega (or both, in starmie's case).

So they might give you the raichu ones or something as a story thing, like how AZ gives you your starter's mega stone after rogue absol, but the remainder should be either associated with new characters or from new rogue mega fights. If anything, it'd be more likely for the hoenn starters (assuming they come back, which they definitely will since the primals are already soft confirmed*) to have their megas added to the stone emporium at some point instead.

*Speaking of which, I haven't seen anyone bring up this serebii tweet about two incredibly mysterious special donuts that definitely have nothing to do with groudon/kyogre at all:

December 10th is a bit of a greedy date - feels like its a bit TOO soon. But tbh I am kinda happy with that. For me the main game is wrapping up so there isnt much else to do. Combined with the Diancie event and I think this will keep players hooked for a little longer which is fine. What's nice is that this also let's all the new megas be in champions as well, so we can move onto that after we are finished with the DLC story.

Aside from that, the leaks make this DLC too predictable imo. I know this game got delayed, but with the DLC releasing so fast Im not sure if there will be enough content compared to SwSh and SV, which had pretty decently sized DLCs imo.

They probably went with December to Cash in on the holidays sales.

Also probably want it out before Champions, and a full clear runway for Gen 10 so we don't get the goofiness of L:A in January, the final L:A update in February and then Gen 9 later that same year again.

if the whole thing is sitting there done anyway, pretty easy to make sure it just drops before the year end.

So what do you think is up with the hologram trainers in hyperspace? I don't think it's folks from our Lumiose holocasting into it (at least, not at first) since it seems like our first trip in there is meant to run into peopel and get owned. So...Hyperspace lumiose...residents? Trapped indoors so this is how they do Pokemon?

View attachment 784781 AYO FINALLY MEGA CHIMECHO LET'S GOOOOOOO! Honestly, as a freak who unironically really likes the chingling line, this is really hype!! I'd be really curious on the ability too. The dex entry could lean into a noice based ability (which could potentially go really well with stab psy noice and now boomburst!) With that said, keeping levitate would be pretty good as well, especially with the new secondary steel type! Whatever it is, I'm just so happy we got em. I really enjoy megas that go back and give average mons a new lease in life (even if it doesn't always pan out perfectly...)

Oh there's also a mega baxcalibur. Huh. Kinda funny how they skipped right to the most recent pseudo. Hydreigon/goodra/kommo-o/dragapult fans be darned.

I did see someone point out re: Pseudos

We’ve got the first 4 gens and Baxcalibur now with Megas, Hydreigon with a Paradox, Goodra with a regional form Kommo-o with its unique Z move and Dragapult with nothing.

The reason for this is because GameFreak themselves know they cannot improve on perfection.

as a pokemon fan and a yakuza fan I am so glad to see both series reference eachother now
yakuza 7 and 8 had a lot of pokemon references in the form of side quests and minigames

Corbeau in ZA was already pretty Yakuza character coded, not just because hes literally a Yakuza but how he acts and talks lol
even his battle theme feels like it could've been in Yakuza 7 or 8

then we got this in the dlc trailer

But what if mega dragapult was... two dragapult?

I was also curious about this because we do see one regular trainer in hyperspace in the trailer, so... Quasartico's battle simulator AI come to life? Probably feels too close to AI Turo/Sada. Maybe just straight up Quasartico's simulator to practice for hyperspace excursions since they're time-limited?

I'm not one to usually go around coping for relatives but

I mean, they were kinda associated with Ground Close Combat, Fire Outrage and Water Double Edge when the moves were introduced in LA. Took a bit less for those to be widespread than usual, and they weren't the sole users at their debut anyway.

Haha thought they were associated with New Hisui forms/evos tbh.

Guess they were still thinking of pushing Defiant Empoleon with that one.

If we go by the theory of "Mons recently getting forms are on a cooldown", Goodra got a Hisuian form and Hydreigon git a parafox in Iron Jugulis. Maybe there will be room for next gen, assuming megas are there.

Speaking of Baxcalibur, I kinda love that they maxed out on how far they were going on the Godzilla angle, so they exaggerated the Excalibur angle and made itself the sword in the stone. With a more hunched stature, it can more easily swing and slice through its opponents rather than rely on its signature Glave Rush. Now it reminds me even more of Glavenus, a monster from Monster Hunter that uses its tail as a giant sword.
