Pokémon Legends: Z-A General Discussion

Can I do the local trades without Nintendo Online membership? If so can someone help in getting Scizor, Aromatise, Slurpuff and Johtonian Slowking? I can mirror trade:-)
Local trade just requires the devices to be on the same connection I believe, so a NSO membership wouldn’t be required however the other device would have to be physically in your presence to do so.

That's sad:-(

I have a plan B for NSO free trial around 25.10. So I can get Delphox and Greninja Mega Stones close to end and get Chesnaught's whatever the requirenments will be. Do I have to have lv 100 Team to have a chance in the ranked Battles? I have a solid core of Excadrill/Frosslass/Feraligatr/Victreebel or even Delphox (I have a Falinks but he's far from best) itself which I want to try in various configurations. All lv 82 for now. I want to wait for the infinite Royale till I got Delphox Mega stone. And either lv them all to lv 85 or higher depends on DLC levels.
I believe lv 85 is a good cut off as that's 1 lv above the Zygarde Boss fight.
And I know DLC is above lv 100 but it seems the Donuts will increase our levels (makes one wonder how EXP wil work in the DLC).

no, the levels are set to 50 whether they are above or below it

also quite frankly since they lowered the requirement for Delphox to S, you don't have to be even remotely good to rank up enough for it. running around collecting mega orbs and mega evolving once per battle even if you don't knock anyone out is usually good enough to get points.

even when the requirement for greninja was K, it only took me a couple hours of using my not EV trained properly ingame team to get it. rank S is much much easier obviously.

I don't understand the complaints about Xerneas. Winning in this game is much more about spacing, timing, and the player's awareness of the battlefield than any individual Pokemon. Sure, if this were OU, Xerneas would be silly, but this game plays so differently that it's really not much of a problem. Plenty of people are hitting 50%+ win rates without even using it, and, lowkey, it seems somewhat suboptimal to use right now because everyone is overprepared for it.

I think the reactions towards Xerneas are just knee-jerks because “oh no box mascot in ranked!!” but steel types have been prominent since season 1 day 1, MegaGross is one of the nastiest beasts out there, as is Mega Skar, Garbodor is even gaining prominency thanks to it.

Garchomp is still one of the scariest things to deal with currently IMO.

Garchomp and the Ground-Type in general being strong in a so-called “Xerneas meta” does not surprise me in the slightest. Fairy and Ground have always had good synergy due to Ground hitting all three of Fairy’s resistances for super-effective damage. (Unrelated, but this type synergy may possibly have been the inspiration for Lacey in The Indigo Disk but that’s just a theory.) Ground-Types benefitted significantly from the rise in usage of those three resists in an effort to check Fairy-Types.

In regards to Xerneas specifically, I’m also starting to think Primal Groudon was a direct attempt by Game Freak back in Gen 6 to make something that could be a Xerneas check and a Xerneas partner at the same time, something only a Ground/Fire, Poison/Ground, or Ground/Steel Pokémon is really capable of.

I cannot believe we have a third mono Electric mega in this DLC lol. You’d think they’d have given ONE of them a secondary type.

Website states that there’ll be a way to get Zeraora within the DLC eventually.

Also alludes to not being able to manually mega evolve it but rather having to wait until it’s ready? Or be in total sync.

"It’s thought that Mega Evolution removes the internal limiter containing the electric energy stored within Zeraora’s body. This allows it to unleash powerful attacks that can take down multiple nearby opponents at once. Just be aware that getting Mega Zeraora for your team might be a little difficult. Keep your eyes peeled for a way to encounter this Mythical Pokémon as you play through the Mega Dimension DLC."

Shadow the Hedgehog-type beat:

Especially with "seriously why won't GF give it the Fighting-type" Zeraora.

Also anyone else getting Luxray vibes? Edit: RocketSurgery beat me to it.

Re-branded Battle Bond?

Electric types in general really got some of the most boring applications of Mega Evolution, huh?

Raichu X - Mono Electric, same as base
Raichu Y - Mono Electric, same as base
Ampharos - Adds Dragon, at least
Manectric - Mono Electric, same as base
Eelektross - Mono Electric, same as base
Zeraora - Mono Electric, same as base

Like I know type changes on Megas are actually relatively rare but come on

electric types are kinda just handled boringly in general. like, in the first 4 generations, the only dual electric types were zapdos, rotom, and lanturn. you know you've got a problem when lanturn is one of the most exciting pokemon of your type.

Zeraora’s lack of a signature Z-Move a la Marshadow finally makes some form of sense now, I suppose. The conflict, of course, being it couldn’t hold a Mega Stone and a Z-Crystal at the same time. I had a strong feeling this was coming after some of the leaks, I just didn’t say anything so as to avoid spoilers and whatnot.

What does interest me is the idea that Zeraora supposedly being scrapped from Gen 6 might have more credibility to it than I thought at first. Many people, especially after this reveal, have already started pointing out how Diancie (Mega), Hoopa (Unbound), and now Zeraora (Mega) all have some kind of stronger form but 2016’s resident Volcanion still does not. If I had to guess, Volcanion and Zeraora (2018) may have swapped positions at some point in the 3DS’s life cycle, but this has never been confirmed. Alternatively, there does exist an unused National PokéDex slot in the files of the Gen 6 games located in between where Zygarde (#718) and Diancie (#719) ended up in the final release(s), so maybe Zeraora was supposed to be that Pokémon? I’m personally less confident in the second guess because Kalos’s first Mythical being a Fairy-Type (Diancie) seems like it was a very intentional decision.

Edit: This has absolutely nothing to do with Mega Zeraora itself, but the name “Volcanium Z” lowkey goes hard and if we ever see an Alola Legends game or something, that could add credibility to my theory that those two got swapped. It sounds better than “Zeraorium Z” at least.

emma's crobat might be back btw
On the subject of Crobat, now that I mention it, as someone who has a history with finding copious amounts of Poison-Type Shinies with no explanation, couldn’t help but notice the player character was only battling Poison-Type Pokémon in this trailer. I’ll have to see if I’m going crazy and watch the last trailer again but are they subtly implying that different sections of Hyperspace Lumiose might have different Types of Pokémon to find? Because if that does end up being the case, I am going to have a field day in that zone.

Seems to be the case. In this screenshot there are only fire types:

The English trailer showed one with just steel types.

It could still be the case that late game areas can mix types.

they probably can mix, since there are two more blank squares next to the fire-type icon.

edit: looked back at the english trailer and it specifically says "common types" for that section. my guess is that the donuts change the more randomly generated aspects of the hyperspace wild zone to specialize in whatever pokemon/types, but there are still fixed elements based on something like the portal's location or whatever.

Looking at that screenshot again, it may depend on the Wild Dimension’s star rating. Side note, why is that in English but the rest of the text in Japanese? Anyways, I saw this particular one is a two-star zone so if I had to guess, the higher star ratings will have more spawns and more different Types, not unlike something such as the Pokémon Rumble games actually. Rumble World’s stages in particular remind me a lot of this. My prediction: one and two star zones will have one Type, three and four star zones will have two Types, and five star zones will open up after the conclusion of the DLC’s story and have three Types.
