Pokémon TCG Pocket

Shout out to that Blue card, it's the first time he's been depicted in his FRLG attire. His other cards are all based on the Let's Go design (itself an altered version of his og design).

Oh and this is the first time "Leaf" has gotten a card! Previously only "Green" had, as part of the Let's Go sets. I guess they're committing to them being two separate characters? How goofy.

seems to be an expansion to genetic apex more so than its own thing so it'll keep the gen 1 theming, i feel like a new set will take quite a bit to release, maybe around march. do you think they'll go by gen order or jump to sv cards?
We know from datamining that the next set is due at the end of January, and that it's meant to be a new "major" set to this one's "minor" set.
Think of it like how they do it in real TCG in Japan (English trends towards merging the smaller ones unless they have a distinct enough theme to sell as a Special set), where's there's a new set every..6 or so weeks and tends to alternate in scope.

I'd also say that while the gen 1 theming is still very present, there's very prominent other gen Pokemon all over this. One of the key arts is Serperior overlooking Beheeyem messing with some Stonjourner, Volcarona & Liepard are prominent in the pack key art, the trailer itself made a point to show off several new lines in both other artwork and as cards, etc

I can see the next major set be a focus on Gen 2, just because Johto introduced item cards & baby Pokemon and the game feels primed to have those as major shake ups, but I think moving forward it'll be just a random assortment of Pokemon from various gens. Some will probably lean harder on a given gen than others.

Aerodactyl EX's Ability prevents your opponent's Pokemon from evolving.

*looks at my Dragonite Deck*
*looks at my Dark Wigglytuff Deck*
*sighs*

At least it looks like most other decks are going to suffer too. I think the only decks that wouldn't worry about that are Pikachu, which should probably still worry because it's weak to Fighting, and... Oh crap! Misty+Articuno doesn't care! Please tell me other types get bigger buffs than Coin Flip Water!

Edit: I somehow missed that it was Active Pokemon Only. Not too bad for Dragonite because you want to protect your Dragon by keeping it on the Bench. Still worried about the Dark Deck though...

It prevents to evolve from the active spot ! You can still evolve them on your bench.

I'm thinking they'll follow the Go method of each major set being largely a catchup gen wise, but as we already do have some mixing of gens it'll maybe have some other stuff.

The reason I was confused is that it doesn't say "Genetic Apex" on it so I was expecting it to be different, but perhaps that's just my skill issue and fault tbh

I think Aero's main selling point is being able to deal 80 damage for 2 energy. Its like a more consistent Marowak. The ability itself seems very situational seeing how you can one shot prety much anything non evolved and the ability is pointless if they are evolved.

Not sure how I missed that. I'm usually good at catching exact wording. Thanks for the correction. Now I'm much less worried.

The down side of Aerodactyl is Old Amber isn't a Pokemon, so you can't find it from a Pokeball and it's less likely to be in your opening hand because of the guarantee that there will be at least one Basic Pokemon.. In other words, it's harder to get the card needed to play Aerodactyl.

The downside of Marowak is it it's secretly a Floatzel. (Two Tails. Every time.)

They're inconsistent in different ways, but one is inconsistent in a way less infuriating way than the other. Aerodactyl would be way better than Marowak IMO even without the Ability because screw coin flips.

About other cards: I'd so use Dedenee in a Pikachu EX Deck because I like none of the options for a Pokemon that doesn't evolve, so why not? Also, Dhelmise is exactly the same as Lapras other than typing. It might be worth putting one into a deck with Lilligant in case you can't draw Bulbasaur or its evolutions.

This was my takeaway from the trailer:

Marshadow hasn't had a card in any of the SV sets so far, so I guess I'll take a digital card. It would be cool if it got an immersive card, but it looks like those are only for mons on the pack art.

A way to spawn Grass energy without having it in your pool! I found it annoying that trying to cram as many energy colors on your team as possible for the memes left you one short, but now we can get the full rainbow!

Grass: New Exeggcute
Fire: pool
Water: Misty
Lightning: Magneton
Psychic: Gardevoir
Fighting: Brock
Darkness: pool
Steel: pool

Unfortunately I don't thiiiink you can get them all in play at the same time unless I'm missing something, though all they need is a Psychic Exeggutor to make that happen.

You also end up having the edgiest possible color combination in your pool which is funny.

Isn't that good for your Wigglytuff deck? Now the opponent cannot evolve out of the sleep effect!

TPC STOP TRYING TO MAKE FOSSIL POKEMON HAPPEN, ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN
When the alternate is Marowak, it will happen.

I don't mean for half my posts in this thread to be complaining about Marowak, but I couldn't resist saying that. :P

That does sound good, but I'm playing Dark because Weezing and Arbok are fun (Raise your hand if you're surprised the Status Moves fanatic loves Control Decks!) and I think Fighting probably has better options than Wigglytuff, like Aerodactyl or maybe Mew. Speaking of better options, I wonder if there's going to be any Dark or Steel EX Pokemon. And I wonder what Dragon type will be added.

Anyway, I worried when I missed that it only prevents Active Pokemon from Evolving. Now I'm mostly worried about the Fighting Weakness. Still going to suck for Koffing/Weezing in general though...

Remember when the original Aerodactyl stopped *all* evolution just by existing? Ah those were the days
have no clue why they're not letting it have this tbh. not searchable by pokeball + you need to evolve it before even being able to put energy on it with no energy acceleration, good attack consistency but weak to pika decks (really bad) and not even allowed to be an ex that doesnt get ohko'd by mewtwo. not a bad ex at all but i feel like its ability didnt need to be that weakened

You can put energy on fossils before they evolve.

You can actually attach energy to fossils, just pulled my fighting deck out to double check.

I assume there'll be some new item cards added to the shop, so I wonder if we might see some extra search support for stuff like this.

This event was dogshit btw. asking for 5 consecutive runs in a meta as matchup fishy as this one is an exercise in futility. Run non-mewtwo decks? you get a mewtwo match thats 70:30 in their favor because it just gets energy faster than you and hits harder. run a mewtwo deck since its good? well its so good that now theres arbok teams that shut you down unless you get crazy lucky. and then you have shit like misty and marowak that can coinflip a win without you being able to do much in return.

I know decks will always have weaker matchups and that playing tcg involves luck, but not even the main tcg is as bad as this rn, despite having shit like kyurem legal

I dunno, I ran a Machamp deck and got my five without too much hassle. Helped that Pikachu decks felt more common earlier in the event.

I barely saw any mewtwo decks while I was getting my 12 matches in for the hour glasses. I saw a number of different ones like charizard, misc fire box, other pikachu ex...surprisingly the only water deck I saw was this one where they clearly didn't have the ex components and could not get off the ground. I even got the 5-in-a-row emblem before I was done with 10 matches. I wasn't even trying for it.
I run a Pikachu ex deck and not even the meta one

honestly I kind of get the backlash but at the same time, and I held this thought even before getting the emblem, the fact it's just for a cosmetic makes me not care that it can be kind of hard to get.

Also shoutouts to the guy who decided to set their entire deck up around indirect damage attempting to juggle Greninja, Hitmonlee, & Hypno

With the amount of mewtwo decks running around rn? absolutely not
The Mewtwo matchup is honestly not that bad. Assuming you both get your stuff set up equally fast, Machamp wins the 1v1, and even if you don't get Machamp early, if Mewtwo is chipped then it can just barely live a Psydrive from full and KO back.
