Ah-ha it's you who was talking about this.
Nice to see confirmation, there was some others saying "No" to this the other day.
Guess it was just confusion based on other things

dont know if anyone noticed, but articuno/moltres now have the move hurricane

I wonder if this will give articuno some viability in rain teams?

ice beam/hurricane/roost/sub

Right nOw people are relying a ton on mamo, donphan, and acizor to check the dragons and the new therian forms. That being said, wobbuffet becomes a great partner for teams. Bait a weak prioroty move, encore/counter, then sweep. By the way, does anyone know if the previously illegal berries have been released?

I don't know abut articuno, what with that special attack stat, but moltres will love this.

Unfortunately fire/flying is still crappy coverage but an extra stab move to hit things never hurt anybody. Hurricane only really helps moltres against things it couldn't really take care of by using air slash before.

Also Heracross gets Bulk Up again <_<

moltres isnt usable in rain. articuno is

Articuno isn't usable period.

More often than not, moltres will find himself in a position where the weather is not in his favor. It's not as if he had four move slot syndrome before, so dedicating one slot to hurricane will help him when the enemy team has rain up. That's what I was getting at here. You're not going to be using moltres on a rain team. You're going to be using hurricane when the opponent uses rain against you.

yeah thats true

but i think articuno might get some semblance of usability now that it has a way to get in on the weather wars.

Actually, I like the look of Hurricane Moltres. Fire / Flying is excellent coverage (hi Ho-oh). I am actually considering using Offensive SubRoost Moltres in the rain. Have some Toxic Spikes up, get a Sub up, and then you can either destroy things with Hurricane or stall out anything you can't kill. Fire Blast destroys most Steel-types that resist Hurricane anyway, barring Heatran, who rain teams just eat for breakfast. If Heatran lacks Roar, Moltres is actually the one winning. The only problem is the fact that Rain Volc exists, I guess, but Moltres will be far from bad.

Moltres @ Life Orb / Sharp Beak / Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Nature: Modest / Timid
- Substitute
- Roost
- Hurricane
- Fire Blast

Nice set Shrang!

Even with Rona around it is not the end of the world, as you hit around 50% harder with Hurricane (STAB), meaning that you can ohko Terrakion(91.35 - 108.02%, 87,5% chance to ohko after SR) and 2hko Tenta (63.73 - 75.27%), and Jellicent (64.76 - 76.17%) which is very cool! Also SubRoost pp stalling is something that Rona can't do. Finally Moltres is immune to Ground attacks, neutral to flying and has way better physical defense, which are enough traits to make it different than Rona.

That Moltres is pretty much a waste of a team slot in rain because if they have rocks up you have to roost before even taking a neutral hit and all those trouble pkmn you listed will ohko Moltres lol even scald in the rain from tentacruel

Mabey incorporate Heal Bell and Articuno can help support in addition to dealing with grass types? :p

Hey ive been wondering if anything can actually really counter the new thundurus, if I am doing my calculations right, even the most specially defensive Chansey gets a minimum of 48.6% from +2 focus blast (life orb). If only checks exist, what is the best check?

I'm also wondering what the best check to that is.

Scarfer
Anything with higher speed

Gasp ! Aerodactyl

Note that it shouldnt have Prankster.... less of a hassle... a bit

I have the answer you are looking for man. There is one counter, but it doesn't have reliable recovery... Here it is:

Scarf Modest Thundurus-F

Can switch into anything as even HP Ice fails to ohko after SR, and you ko back after SR with HP Ice: 73.57 - 86.95%, 87.5% chance to ohko after SR.

EDIT: Also Specs Jolteon can take anything from Thundurus-F (even LO FB after SR doesn't ohko) and ohko back with HP Ice after SR.

Might be something worth toying with (a big FU to volt-turn) however, scarf-Latios looks like it may have more utility on my team, Latios can take an HP ice probably.

Damn i didn't think of the most obvious counter lol :D LO + 3 attacks Latios is probably the best counter as he can take everything, has reliable recovery, is faster and ohkoes back! Thx god we found a counter to this thing...

Yes, I am grateful that Latios can always come through time after time for us.
